I needed a hardscaper for a new driveway, sidewalk and back patio steps. When I met Paul from Alexander & Sons, I knew intuitively without question he is the kind of high quality vendor that I seek out. He was thorough, detailed, creative, conscientious and he truly listened - to my goals, likes/dislikes, and concerns. He provided me with recommendations across all 3 work areas that took into account the needs and special considerations for each location. He worked to ensure that we had a good strategy for redirecting water from the downspout to the patio and for redirecting water via a small 'channel' parallel to the driveway to allow for better water management. We love our new backyard and front entry way! Paul and his team at Anderson & Sons took a blank back yard (nothing but dirt) and transformed it into a beautiful and livable space for us. They also revamped our crowded front entry way (too many bushes and a not-so-easy-to-walk-on pathway and landing to the door) into a open and airy mini garden leading to the home. We couldn't be more pleased! Throughout the process, Paul was very communicative and quickly responded to our inquiries. There was a lot of old concrete in both the front and back yard for them to demo and haul away before framing and pouring all new concrete (stamped and brushed) in both yards for the patio, walkways, and fire pit area. New tile work on the front porch, trees, bushes, lighting, and a drip system. Anderson & Sons did it all. As with any large project, there were a few minor hiccups along the way - mostly having to do with unanticipated discoveries during construction. Also, dealing with the city to coordinate the gas line for our fire pit as well as the utility companies required a bit of effort on our part, but it was a small time-price to pay for the end result. Anderson & Sons is not the least expensive of the landscaping companies out there and we did end up spending a little more than we had originally anticipated, but the cost overruns were largely due to changes and additions we made during implementation. Their GC Paul Sarkis is a great guy, ensures everyone is on the same page when it comes to implementing the plan, and keeps you informed as to the progress of the project and any adjustments that may arise along they way. He's friendly, easy to talk to, and stopped by the job site nearly every day to oversee the progress and talk to us to ensure everything was going according to our liking. We hired Alexander and Sons to work on our backyard. Among the contractors we asked for estimates on the job, Paul was the only one to ask moving of the shed to make room to use drive heavy equipment into the backyard. This showed to me that Paul was a problem solver and was willing to propose unique solutions through issues. The plan was to demo the backyard, install pavers for a patio on one side and concrete on the other side of the backyard and artificial turf in between the patio and concrete area. Though they don't work with artificial turf, these guys were happy to help prepare the artificial turf section.  For the patio section, these guys did a really good job with the pavers and even poured the base and brackets for a pergola. The pergola we did ourselves but we're very happy with the preparations these guys did to allow us to complete our backyard project.  The project went over the estimated price as there's always unforeseen circumstances especially for a 60+ year old home, but Paul was upfront with what needed to be done and provided reasonable prices for the work.  All in all, the whole family is very happy with our backyard and the kids have a whole backyard they can safely play in and that makes this all worth it. Very pleased with the job that Paul and team did! They installed a new driveway with stamped concrete and a curvy brick path (see photo). It has gotten so many compliments from neighbors and complete strangers! The demo and concrete were done in just a few days. The herringbone brickwork took quite a bit longer, but was totally worth it. Everyone was very professional, and Paul was especially responsive by email and phone. One hiccup was that the water main was broken in the demo because it was directly beneath the old concrete, instead of a foot or so below. No problem. Paul and his team re-did our back patio and ripped out a lot of old concrete sidewalks that were in our backyard. The patio is beautiful and we are really happy with it. The sidewalk that he replaced on the side of our house is also very nice. Communication with Paul was pretty good overall-he always showed up when he said he was going to show up or let us know if he needed to re-schedule, which is pretty rare as far as contractors go. We had a couple of small misunderstandings about the project, but he always made the effort to make sure we were happy in the end. The showroom hours that are here on Yelp are not accurate-I went over there a couple of times during the "open" time listed and nobody was there. The only way to get a hold of Paul was to call the number of the showroom and he did not usually answer, so there is a bit of a delay there as well. But it's nice to be able to see the colors, designs and various materials of what he has to offer there, and as a bonus for those who have kids like I do, there are toys there for them to play with while the parents check out the options. read more

My wife and I hired Alexander and Sons to build us our dream backyard in our new home. Paul came out to look at our yard of dirt and worked with us to come up with a backyard design that includes a stamped concrete patio and walkways on both sides of the house, grass with sprinklers, drippers, and we even had them extend the width of our driveway by a few feet on each side. We also upgraded our drainage to hard pvc since the solution that the builder included with our home seemed like it was just enough to pass inspection but iffy for a long term solution. He even facilitated planting a few trees for us as well as some plants and my wife and I purchased on our own. The price came out similar to what other contractors quoted us but we decided to go with Alexander and sons because Paul just seemed tuned into what we wanted and exuded a confidence that we didn't get from the others.
