I contacted a number of locksmiths to have a duplicate/replacement key with an immobilizer built in made for my Honda. Milad responded quickly and had the best price. I saved a bunch over the dealership prices. Key was made in less than 15 min. Be sure to bring vehicle and all other keys for reprogramming if you are in a similar situation as old keys will no longer work to start the ignition unless reprogrammed at same time. read more

This review is long overdue, but I just realized today that I owed it to the awesome owner of the shop, Ali, to leave this review for them. The thing is, my car key got stuck in the ignition a few months back, and I towed the car to the mechanic. I asked around and was told that it would cost me a few hundred bucks ($400-500) to fix the ignition (replace it). So very frustrated, as a last shot, I randomly called the locksmith that was nearest to the mechanic shop where my car was parked, and Ali and his colleagues arrived at the location within 10 minutes, and fixed the issue in less than a minute. What could have cost me $500 in a couple of days was fixed for 20-30 bucks in less than a minute. So you can imagine how happy I was that I did not rely on the advice of those mechanics, and was fortunate enough that I found this shop. Ali and his colleague were both very professional, kind, and knowledgable, and could fix the issue very fast. My brother lost his car key at a movie theater. We were stranded in the parking lot and called Mahmood/Mike in desperation. He arrived within 20 minutes and made a duplicate key in his van within half an hour (after taking apart the car door handle on the passenger side to find the serial number). That was amazing! He even offered to make a free "original" key using the computer at his store in Pasadena if we choose to stop by later. The key cutting machine in his van needs to be manually adjusted, so it is not as precise. The key he made could not open the passenger door, but it could start the engine, open the driver door and the trunk, so we were content. Mike felt amiable and sincere to me. Both my brother and I enjoyed chatting with him. I don't understand why some people give him such bad reviews. I suspect it may be due to miscommunication, since Mike is Persian and does not express himself well in English. He also tried to peddle his restaurant next door and commented how all Chinese people like Persian food. However, I didn't see that as being shady or dishonest. After all, the man is trying to make a living, and we always have the choice of not to go. But I think I will, because I am a Chinese who likes Persian food :-) I will definitely recommend Good Lock & Key to all my friends. More importantly, I need to start hiding a spare key under my car so that this will never happen to me again! Review Update on 12/28/15: I went to Mike's store in Pasadena today. After having a week of moving hell, I went out to indulge in a later night snack only to have grabbed the wrong set of car keys that did not have my new house key on it. Found these guys on Yelp, called at 11:21. Mike arrived within 15 minutes and upon looking at my lock, he explained it was unpickable due to the "smart key" feature. Many other locksmiths at this point would have said, I can either break it or you are out of luck. Instead, he offered to try keys to see if one might be close enough to push the lock open. He must have sat there for half an hour if not more trying 50 plus keys. None worked. Breaking the lock wasn't an option for me as a brand new tenant. As a last resort so that I wouldn't have to stay elsewhere for the night, he helped me remove my screen from an outside window that btw was not a window easily accessed and we got inside!! He saved me in a way I can't even explain. After a week of every single thing going wrong that could have gone wrong, Mike (Milad) went out of his way to help me. I will not forget this and will keep his business card with me and recommend these guys to anyone ten times over. Side note- Completely affordable for a late night lock-out.
