Went at about 12:30pm last Wednesday & I have very mixed feelings with my experience. I would not go back. My husband's wrap was good & mine was so wrong in so many ways. It wasn't busy & there were a few Yale employees & students shopping there also. Liked: Great variety & lots of healthy options. The woman who worked at the register was very nice. Disliked: $35 for 2 wraps & 2 sodas which is way too expensive. We ordered two wraps by number (#11- turkey avocado wrap on whole wheat & #12 - chicken avocado wrap on spinach). The guy was alone making them was wearing a NY ball cap seemed very annoyed. We clearly stated to add bacon on the spinach wrap & he proceeded to put it on the other wrap. Then he made my wrap where I could not see it & he didn't make anything I ordered. My chicken avocado wrap was to according to their chart I ordered by made to have grilled chicken, avocado, roasted peppers, lettuce & cucumber. Instead he made a chicken wrap with spinach, onions, peppers, mushrooms & mozzarella cheese. No cucumber or avocado. Lots of everything I didn't order & nothing I did order than the chicken & bacon. I ate a few bites of it & had to throw the $14.99 wrap in the garbage. What a waste of $ I didn't appreciate due to him going rouge on my order. He also made my husband's wrap & then stopped mid making mine & took people who just came in orders & started fixing their orders before finishing mine. Good Nature is an upscale bodega run and staffed by a medley of folks. They are NYC sharp in sleepy New Haven. I'm a long time customer of Good Nature, long before the onset of the pandemic. And I've run the gamut with them - sandwiches, hot buffet, necessities, drinks, salads, etc. Let's start with my favorite - the hot buffet. Good Nature has had this since they took over from Gourmet Heaven, the predecessor. The food is hot, fresh and flavorful. Be careful - buffet by weight are a restaurant scam. They put tasty heavy things out to bring up the price. They, like 1000s of others, are preying on human nature. Don't complain if you filled up the tin. Use the smaller tin (not tin but styrofoam) and get better on your portion control. It is cheaper and healthier too. The deli counter is huge. Build your own, designed sandwiches, paninis, custom salads, you can cover every appetite here. Pro tip - order in person. Some staff are ESL and don't always get the write in via grubhub or snackpass for example. Plenty of chips and sides and drinks of every type are available. Second Pro Tip - check your drink when taken from the cooler. The coolers aren't always that cool and the cooler can or bottle might be 2d or 3rd in the rack. Good Nature has lots of other stuff from food, necessities, TP, fruit, baking and cooking ingredients, grocery items, salad dressings, sauces, as well many other so- called healthy things. Often these items are all priced at a premium. On the issue of pricing, when I wrote NYC Sharp, I meant it. In sleepy NHV and CT generally, people assume every one is honest to a fault. Given the mostly Spanish speaking staff and Asian ownership/management, both ESL, communication issues abound and I chalk up the pricing snafus to being sloppy, poor communication and general sloth. Because they have no real competition on this side of town, they set the market price and it is high, mostly on the grocery goods and drinks. The fresh foods are generally competitive and you only can blame yourself for piling up 2lbs of hot buffet. There are good and bad things in this store. One thing I noticed when buying packaged food products is that they are 2 to 3 months past the expiration date. I bought a box of pop-tarts and a box of green lentil pasta. Both were 2 to 3 months past the expiration date. I can only imagine what other products are expired in that store. They've taken over the previous inventory and are still offering similar items, but the new owner has promised "multiple renovations" and to "completely change the menu".... idk what that means When I visited here they didn't have any eggs, which I sure hope was a temporary shortage and isn't part of the new menu because the $2-$5 egg sandwiches were probably the old GHeav's most popular offering. Good Nature Market has adapted well to the New Haven area. They serve customers quickly and they offer a great selection of deli sandwiches. I enjoy the panini with Chicken Cutlet, Munster Cheese, Veggies and Thousand Island Dressing. The owner is a nice man that I have met several times in the Broadway and Whitney Avenue locations. The hot food bar has a great selection, I particularly like the fried veggie dumplings. I'm glad they carry pretzel chips and protein bars for days when I want junk food or can't eat a whole lunch. The drink selection is extensive as is the yogurt, chips, and cookies. The flowers always look fresh although I have never purchased any flowers. read more

Good Nature Market (forever known as TDheav to the Yale student body) is the sister location of the Gheav on Broadway. Both are complicated establishments. The Good: TDheav is open 24/7. This is by far and away their most enticing aspect. There's pretty much no where else on campus you can get food/supplies after midnight. TDheav is also very useful for being part-deli and part-supermarket. You can buy solo cups, swiffer wipes, and and a turkey sandwich at 4am if you wish. Their breakfast sandwiches (bacon, egg, and cheese especially) are the most popular among the student body but I've also heard some good things about other items such as the paninis and the ramen. There are some places to eat and work but the wifi is pretty much nonexistent and there are only a couple of small tables in the front. The Bad: Both TDheav and Gheav are expensive. A sandwich will typically run about $9 while all the cleaning supplies and supermarket ingredients are also very marked up. The prices of TDheav reflect the idea that you pay for the 24/7 availability of the establishment. Additionally, the workers at TDheav (as noted by some other reviews) are not the nicest of people. I feel bad for them as they often deal with drunk students during late hours of the night but it's also evident that they don't always care too much about customer service. I've had a worker give me the wrong sandwich then get angry when I went to return it. TDheav and Gheav both often have probems with the app Snackpass as well, often shutting down or having long delays on food orders. Lastly, I wouldn't recommend the food on the hotplates in the middle of the restaurant, that food sits there for hours and is absurdly expensive. If you want a sandwich before an early morning flight or need a soda at 3am then TDHeav is a great place to go. If it's the middle of the day and you're looking for a meal, there are better places to go. read more

SERIOUSLY? I can't even deal w/ this place. After getting a Yelp message from the owner (I think?) I decided that when my co worker really wanted a sandwich and possible soup from GNM today, I would tag along-- again, should have listened to that little voice inside that tells me when I am about to make a decision I will soon regret. I got into line, and my co worker wanted to get a soup for our other coworker. It was tortellini soup, however, there were no tortellini inside the bowl. He scoured the bowl w the ladle at least 3x, no torts to be found. So- negatory on the soup. I then proceeded to order my sandwich. Actually let me re-phrase that. I actually ATTEMPTED to order it. I wanted something that was listed under "wraps" however, wanted to see if I could have it in a Panini instead. I get to the front of the line, and a Hispanic man takes my order. I asked him of this request, he then doesn't answer me, instead just repeats it back to me. Then, an Asian man who is also making sandwiches steps up and says NO- NOPE CAN'T DO IT. I said excuse me? He said whatever is in front of you for Panini's is all we have and can make. I said that is pretty f****** stupid (clearly this place has me at my limit for real) not going to deny I said that- and he proceeds to look at me- and keep it moving. Visited this Market today. Very nice, Clean and fresh food but poor employee training. I ordered 3 sandwiches among other food items. One of the sandwiches was a Proscuitto Parm Hero. The sandwich would have been perfect and delicious if the Proscuitto was sliced correctly. It was sliced as Thick as Jerky and thus tasted like Jerky. A total waste of 10 dollars! read more

I'm enthusiastic about Good Nature Market for only one reason: Korean buffalo wings. These bad boys were at the self-service, hot food bar. The sign said only, "buffalo wings." I shrugged and decided to scoop one into my container. Why not, right? And then I sat down to eat them, and holy ****. These wings were made with Korean spices and are AMAZING. I actually came back later in the same day to get more of these wings. Okay, so maybe I'm writing this review to induce Good Nature Market to continue to make these wings, as I notice the selections at the hot food counter change from the day to day. I've been working in the food industry for 10 years and been eating solid food for 28. I've never had worse customer service. I go here often because I get out of work around 2am. I dread going here. Downtown New Haven has surprisingly few sandwich places, particularly straightforward delis. It's only when in desperate search of a sandwich that I've come in here several times over the years (including in its former iteration), and it's only on that basis which I am reviewing. First, I see essentially no change in the store and in the guys making the sandwiches since new ownership took over. Anyway, I give the guys credit in that they certainly put some effort into making my cold cut sandwich, i.e., cutting meat and cheese from blocks and assembling the sandwich nicely, but the end result simply isn't that good. The sub roll is sub par (see what I did there?), generally soft and spongy and on my most recent visit, stale. The quantity of meat and cheese is quite modest, and they use a romaine lettuce which I think doesn't have enough crunch (like iceberg offers). At $7.75 (or thereabouts), there's no value here either. Only if Vito's is on summer break and I'm terribly desperate for a deli sandwich might I return here, but I hope that doesn't happen. read more

Been coming here since 2014 when it was known as GHeav/TDheav. It's open 24/7 and the staff are friendly. Great options of sandwiches, chocolates, Haribo, teas, and drinks. Even come to TDheav for cleaning products I can't find elsewhere. With Snackpass, it's pretty great because of discounts, but otherwise can get expensive. Both locations have seating. TDheav has a nice ATM and views with windows. GHeav has good upstairs seating, although can get pretty loud late on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. read more

I was never a fan when it was Gourmet Heaven, but I thought I'd give this place a try. I ordered a "Russian" Panini which was supposed to be roast beef, muenster cheese and Russian dressing. The guy behind the counter reached into the refrigerator case and pulled out a pre-made sandwich. That should have been a tip off that there were going to be problems. When I bit into it, I tasted onions and horseradish sauce. I checked the menu board and he had given me a "Godfather" which had said horseradish and onions. OK, I like horseradish sauce on my roast beef, but this was terrible. The meat was grey and dry and tasteless. All I could taste was the onion and horseradish. I am describing an upsetting experience that happened on Friday, November 17, 2017. I purchased an item that was marked at a given price. When it scanned at the register, the clerk charged me a dramatically higher price. I asked, "hmm. might that price be wrong?" The clerk said, brusquely, "no". I went and got a picture of the price. I have been going to the Broadway location for years now (before it was Good Nature Market it was Gourmet Heaven) being that I work on Broadway as well. I am literally in there every day. Now that it is Good Nature Market they have imposed a $7.00 minimum for Credit and Debit Cards. That is a ridiculous minimum for a deli/convenience store. I tried buying a breakfast sandwich there early which comes out to be 3.50. Even if I bought a juice to go with it, I still don't hit the minimum requirement. Coming to this realization I walked back up front and told them I am all set. They said the sandwich was already made but you know what?... That's not my problem. I refuse to go back there until they get rid of the minimum or start accepting debit card purchases. Quick math for an customer such as myself: 3.50 Breakfast Sandwich x 5 days a week = 17.50 17.50 x 52 = $910 a year That's almost 1K on breakfast sandwichs alone. Just imagine how much I was spending there when you include drinks and lunch as well. I would estimate I personally spent over $3,000 there in a given year. I didn't have a problem spending that much there because it was convenient. Not anymore though. about 10% of the items have prices. for the rest, you find out what they charge when you go to the cash register. in violation of connecticut law, you can't see what they charge for each item anywhere on a screen when they ring you up. they just tell you what the total is. and then if you want a receipt, you have to ask. they generally mark stuff up 20-25% to what you would expect to pay even at an expensive store. there are plenty of signs that say, 'smile, you're being watched by a surveillance camera.' but few signs that say how much stuff costs. I brought a large bag of potato chips to the register once and I asked the person behind the counter what the price was as it wasn't marked. one of the males (I think it was someone w/authority, possibly the owner) said, 'it's $3.29, is that a good price?' he said it with an attitude, like there was something wrong with me for asking. everyone else who has ever rung me up, generally women, has been nice. but you have to know that the owner doesn't want the prices on things as it makes it easier for him to overcharge. sometimes I need to buy from there at off hours, but BUYER BEWARE. read more

I work nearby and end up going here mostly out of convenience. If you go here often there's one glaring issue you'll find. I order the same sandwich every time and the price will range from $5.95 to $7.95 for the same exact thing. My coworkers deal with the same issue as well. One of the guys behind the counter is the most guilty of this. The pull prices out of thin air and the menu on the wall is merely a suggestion. Confronting them about the prices or a wrong order will get you blank stares. The quality of the food is good I guess, but just realize you are getting ripped off every time, at what degree just depends on the price they write with their sharpie at that given moment. On a summer night as my family shops at Urban Objects, I see the "good nature market's" shiny display of apples outside the store. The alternating rows of red fujis, green granny smiths, yellow delicious, and red galas are appealing. I think "cool" like a New York market. If I eat an apple, I may skip the Wooster Street cannolis I am taking my kids to get later. I buy one apple and a pack of Trident gum. Three dollars and change. Okay. The clerk encloses the apple in his entire hand at checkout like a pool shark positioning a cueball. Okay. I get a napkin, wipe the fruit down as I walk Broadway, and take a bite. Mushy. I think maybe that bite is a bruise. Take another bite. Mushier. Like a balloon filled with apple sauce. Okay. No hard feelings. I'm close to the store. I walk back in, place the apple down and say "This one seems to be overripe. Okay if I get another one?" The clerk studies the apple and says "Why did you take so many bites?" Two. Two contiguous bites. I say "I thought it might get better." He says nothing and ignores me. I leave the apple and the store a bit wiser and destined for a cannoli. read more
