The place is beautiful and has a beautiful view but the staff are terrible. We were told that we could sit outside but no food would be served to us, only for us to see people out there eating and food being taken out all night. The hostess was rude and had her airpods in, couldn't be bothered to speak with us other than the obligatory "how many" and "follow me". Our waitress had a terrible attitude but we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. Then she never came back after taking our orders. The runners that brought our food basically threw it down and ran away. We had no silverware and didn't get any refills. When we finally got the waitresses attention after watching her serve everyone around us, we asked about silverware and refills. She said they were out of silverware and brought back 1 refill and dropped it on the table and left, didn't ask about our food. The food was wrong, greasy, and borderline inedible. When we asked for it to be fixed, we were given an attitude. There are plenty of reviews that state how terrible management is. We should've believed them. read more

I was visiting the Outer Banks with family from around the world & grabbing some time off by myself & stopped here. The reviews seemed to be pretty good, so I was up for it. I arrived to a pretty slow restaurant, there were a few women chatting at the podium, yet no one broke their conversation to acknowledge my standing there. After a few minutes I asked if I could be seated & was. I sat outside to enjoy the beautiful stormy sky. Moments later, a very friendly server, Tesha, arrived, answered a few questions & took my order. I ordered the tuna bites & asked for them rare. They were more mid rare, didn't look very fresh, but were okay. I also ordered the She-crab soup that I was told came with a single jumbo shrimp. Sounded perfect to me. The soup was incredible to say the least. Perfectly balanced, robust flavors. The giant shrimp, and it was huge, was NOT de-veined. As the shrimp was huge, so was it's GI tract, which I cleaned myself in order to eat it. I made mention to my server that it should have been done in the kitchen. I guess she mentioned it to the manager, who turned out to be one of the women chatting at the podium as I stood waiting. When she got to the table, she mentioned the shrimp was a garnish, not necessarily intended for consumption . . . hmmmm, weird, as that was one of the selling points. We came on a very windy evening Thurs. Nov 9 with our dog and wanted to eat on the porch outside. The owner/ mgr accommodated us and warned that we should use Togo containers for certain menu items because certain items will blow away. We ordered accordingly so nothing would blow away. We enjoyed our food, conversation with the mgr and other guests. The hostess, the managers daughter, has a bit of attitude,lol. This was ok, I've been there. Enjoyed watching the kiters and the sunset. Other guests joined us outside and we enjoyed some great conversation. Not a real busy night for them and it couldn't have been nicer. We went at 4pm on a weekday during our vacation and it was not busy at all. We were seated by the windows with a great view of the sound. Service was helpful and kind. The food was good, we got mozzarella sticks, a burger, a black bean burger (husband recommends), steamed shrimp, and a crab cake sandwich. The sauce with the crab cake sandwich was tasty, but being from Maryland, it's always hard to compete. We would recommend eating here! read more

Recently dined here with a large party on a 4th of July holiday weekend. The Manager and server were incredibly attentive. They were on top of every empty glass, finished plate, and were two of nicest people in the place. This restaurant is a reflection of its incredible management and has it all together with both incredible service that is paired with incredible food. My wife and I are vacationing in Rodanthe. We went to Good Winds for a late lunch. There was only one person working both the bar and the tables. But she was friendly and efficient. My wife had the fish of the day po boy and I had the oyster po boy. We both had onion rings. The food came out hot and delicious. The servings were abundant. We plan to go back before our vacation is over. We didn't have any adult beverages and the bill was under $40.00. Very reasonable for the amount of food that we received. read more

The worst restaurant experience in decades. The shrimp cocktail appetizer took 30 minutes to come to the table and had only 3 shrimp for $10. Potatoes in the potato salad were almost raw. "Local" tuna was from frozen, and overcooked almost to burnt. 5 tables ordered, ate and left AFTER we placed our order and BEFORE we got our food. Great food, gorgeous view, really nice service! When we showed up we were initially told that the kitchen had closed, so we walked downstairs to take a picture of the sunset before heading out. Thankfully the chef came looking for us and told us someone had misinformed us and they were still open and seating folks. We sat outside on the deck and the view was amazing! Our server, James, was quick and came out with menus and silverware. We order wine and cocktails, hush puppies, a burger, the oyster basket, and a salad with grilled tuna bits. The food came out quickly and was really tasty! James was funny and kept us entertained with stories of his travels and work on OBX. Highly recommend this place! This is the second year in a row that Krystal has allowed my group of 40ish to come in with a reservation. She was extremely accommodating and had everything waiting for us. Her staff didn't miss a beat!!! They were GREAT!!! Food came quick and was absolutely delicious, hats off to the kitchen. I went by recently this week with my family of 7.5 if you include little billy (he's a lil cray cray). We are on vacation from Alabama and Man oh man we just really enjoyed the view and the Fuego food, but most of all we had the sweetest most helpful worker. I believe her name was Annie. We were visiting from the Albany, NY area and were looking for a nice seafood restaurant in this area of the OBX and found the Good Winds Restaurant. I ordered the shrimp alfredo, and my wife and mother-in-law had the fried scallop basket. The Alfredo sauce was not too heavy, which I really thought was great, and the scallops were huge, tender and sweet, and not heavily breaded, another plus. We would strongly recommend this wonderful restaurant, with it's laid back atmosphere to any visitor or local, in the Rodanthe, NC area. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places on the island. My last 2 visits were anything but. Just left there from having dinner and I will never return. First, let's talk about the food. HORRIBLE!!! I couldn't eat the fried oyster basket or the hush puppies that came with it. Disgusting. The folks that work there are the most miserable people I have encountered in a restaurant. The guy that tends bar and waits tables is the most unfriendly, miserable human. He's only friendly to certain people. Cross your fingers you might be one of them! Was it necessary to slam my husbands beer on the table? And not say a word even when he said thank you?? Take the crosses you wear around your neck and go find another job not dealing with the public. The manager needs to find new kitchen help and new wait staff. I am so happy to have had my dinner at this restaurant. I had the absolute best She Crab Soup ever, not a bisque, but a soup, with more crab meat than any other restaurant in OBX. Tuna bites were spicy and delicious with accompanying sauces. Our main course entrees were amazing as well. a Crab Cake Platter with roasted Red Potatoes and Broccoli and a the night's special Cheesy Shrimp and Grits. The dessert was to die for, a Triple Chocolate Torte, and Gluten Free as well. Kudos Good Winds! It is very rare for me to leave a bad review because stuff happens but everything about this lunch was horrible! She said she felt like it was missing something. I think it's due to it being pasta and she expected a pasta flavor rather than Thai flavor. My son got the kids taco and he said the soft shell was too hard like it was heated to long. I honestly can't understand why this place doesn't have at least 4 stars. We had a truly great experience at Good Winds, and we would happily return again. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fresh, tasty local seafood. Our group of 9 had planned on going somewhere else that doesn't take reservations, but they were unable to accommodate us. So, we headed over to Good Winds. There was a wait for a big party, but they expertly and happily got us seated in a reasonable amount of time. Probably not more than 15 minutes. Fortunately, we got in right before the dinner rush, so I think that worked in our favor. The service was absolutely amazing. I can't remember our server's name, but she was fast, polite, and accommodating. We didn't have to wait long for anything. The food excellent. We started with several appetizers, which we shared around the table. All were very good. The crab stuff mushrooms and buffalo shrimp were a particular hit. Our dinners also have great! A few of us had fried seafood baskets. Mine was fish. It was hot, fresh, and delicious. The others who ate this had no complaints, and in fact, they seemed extremely happy with their choice. One in our group had fish tacos and another had crab cakes. Both very much enjoyed their meals with no complaints. The only issue we had was with one of the evenings specials. It was a BBQ pork sandwich, and 3 people in our party ordered it (crazy people who don't appreciate good seafood). Although they said it tasted fine, they all said that their food was cold when it arrived. I have no idea why they didn't say something to our server...probably because they didn't want to complain when we were all having such a good time and enjoying our meals. I think this is an error that was easily fixable, so I can't in good conscience dock a star for this. After all, they did still enjoy their meals. I was so disappointed in the quality of food. The view was amazing but then I got the ahi nicoise salad. The fish was alright but the salad was actually awful. It tasted old and everything was wilted to the point of inedible. The server didn't introduce herself or ask how the food was. I wanted to bring up my concern over the salad but she just left the check and walked away quickly.
