That helps speed up service and not have lines being held up by "I'll have uhh.... Uhhhh... zzzz" and we all hate that. Really cool setup. You order your food at the front, then find an open seat--they have tons of outdoor seating right on the Sound. They had live music playing on a Saturday evening and he was really talented as well! Pretty good food, we both got a pork BBQ sandwich with red mash potatoes. Pretty good selection of beer and mixed drinks--although my Orange Crush didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. My wife got a Rum Runner and a Mai Thai and was very happy with both from a flavor and alcohol content. Really fun area where kids can run and play and also fun to people watch. I came here on a Thursday, but heard that there's live music on the weekends. I ended up here because no other nearby restaurants could accommodate 13 people. Place your order, grab a drink and an outside table while you watch the kite boarders provide awesome entertainment. The staff here are super friendly and make great cocktails and amazing fresh food. We tried the Blackened Local Tuna Sandwich and the Blackened Mahi Mahi Wrap. Both came with a choice of a side (get the Black Bean Salad-it's delicious). Their seafood is fresh and delicious and both come with wasabi cream or cilantro, lime sauces. The Mahi Mahi wrap had the perfect cucumber crunch and the tuna was seared to a perfect medium rare. RUDE RUDE - avoid.- after a torrential downpour , we pulled over to get a bite. my gf politely asked about a menu and the TOTAL LOSER at the counter was so rude and abrupt and just pointed at the wall where the stupid small menu was. we just decided to leave .. it wasn't worth it to be abused. these a-holes act like they're doing you such a favor by being there when in actual reality the people in this area should be appreciative that people come and visit and spend their money here. the guy at the counter should be fired. and avoid this restaurant. lazy rude staff . i wish i had read the previous low rated reviews about the LOSER STAFF... and their rude abrupt , abusive , horrid behavior. there are other options in this area. read more

Unfortunately, our first impression of Waterman's was very disappointing. The gentleman tending the bar was rude to customers, including us, and clearly had very little customer service skills. His attitude was enough that we decided to simply leave rather than stay and spend our money there. Being located in a tourist destination, customer service should be one of the most important things a business gets right. People have plenty of choices, and when you're visiting an area, a rude experience can easily mean someone never comes back. Hiring people who actually understand that and care about customers is so important. We also heard from several locals that this type of attitude has been an ongoing complaint. I can't speak to anything other than our own experience, but unfortunately, what we experienced certainly matched what we were told. When ownership doesn't seem to care about the customer experience or who represents their business, that speaks volumes. Hopefully, management takes a closer look because this was definitely not the impression you want to leave on customers. read more

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. Despite clearly informing them of my shrimp allergy, they put shrimp in my wrap, which was not supposed to contain any. This reckless mistake could have seriously endangered my life. It's unacceptable to ignore such critical information and put customers at risk like this. Once the family knows what they want, you can step inside where you will wait in line for someone to call you up to the counter to order. We drew the short straw and got to deal with a rude, condescending fellow but let's move forward. No indoor dining. Covered outdoor dining as well as an open air space. All picnic tables. Located on the Sound so beautiful views and a wind surfing school going on right before your eyes. Outdoor staff were on point and friendly. We ordered the blackened tuna and the Turkey bacon, guacamole wrap. Both were delicious. Our sides were the citrus slaw and the black bean salad, fresh, light and yummy . I ordered the Tuna sandwich which is supposed to come with one side, I also ordered the red skin mash, ($4 extra) but they didn't include the free side, did the same with other dishes. I think they also nickel and dime, it comes with either cilantro or wasabi sauce, I chose the cilantro, the cashier asked if I wanted both, I said yes, I bet she charged me extra, without telling me the additional price, upfront. 2. The cashiers just give the summarized receipt and not the detailed charges, happened twice over the last week. 3. Although they have a couple of oscillating fans in the building sitting area, there are still flies around that can be lessened by having more fans. Really did not like if you did not follow the order procedure exactly. I watched him reprimand several customers. Service outside was mediocre- had to flag down servers to get refills and had to get our own silverware even though we paid a nice tip. Nowadays these places get their tip before actually doing the job that deserves a tip, but that is very common unfortunately compared to how things used to be. Only reason I am giving 4 stars is because we came here not know what it is all about. There are some tables outside but covered. And the rest of the tables are outside not covered. We sat outside and it was super hot so we were sweating the whole time. Came in for dinner on a Monday and the place was packed. You order your food and drinks at the counter. They gave us our drinks and a number for the table. The runners will bring the food to you or you can order more drink through them. There is a separate line inside to order more for people who have a tab open. The place seems real cool. The food came out real quick. We probably would have drank more if we were seating so bad. I got the peel and eat shrimp app. They were like rubber. Not great. Also got the steak fajitas. I thought they would be good for a kid but they had a good amount of spice that they weren't eaten. read more

Best place to watch the sunset in Waves! Food is amazing and the views are even more stellar. We got the crab stuffed portobello which was gone in less than a minute for our table. The drinks are very good and pretty strong. They went away with table service so you'd have to stand in line to order and servers will bring out your food. The fast food vibe kind of hindered us a bit, but when we tasted bites of food, that immediately was shattered. The food is fresh and delicious. I went with the blackened local tuna sandwich, no roll, and my mom had the crab cakes. My side was the citrus slaw, which had great flavor. The tuna was melt in your mouth fabulous and I wanted to take home all the local tuna because it was so good. I miss the local fish on menus up here in Buffalo. Definitely stop here and get the local seafood items. My mom's crab cake was all crab. There was hardly any filling and that was something that really surprised us. Omg! What a great location! Good food and quick service! During our stay in April we visited Waterman's twice due to the excellent food and quick service. You do need to get here early because the sunsets are amazing! As a mom of two toddlers I loved the outdoor seating and space for my kids to run! One piece of advice..... you don't need to order apps and main dish at the same time, they will all come out together. I wish we would have just done the apps they were delicious!! Even if we don't stay in Rodanthe next time I think it might be worth the drive to eat at Waterman's! read more
