Cookies are still great as always and Terry is still making great cookies. I walk by at least once a month to make sure they are still in business. Terry does take special orders and has some customizable cookies. I usually like all white chocolate chip cookie (no macadamia) and she also has an oatmeal chocolate chip (no raisins). There is also regular oatmeal with raisins. You can call ahead to order a few of these cookies to save time. From my talks with her, there seems to be no minimum requirement of number of cookies. BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS THIS HIDDEN GEM!!! Thank goodness I was walking with my kids!! I didn't even notice the sign and it's so easy to walk by the door and not even know a store is there!(it's a very small shop so there's no seating, it's just to go) My kids noticed the cookie sign out front and asked to go in - THANK GOODNESS!! Sadly it was already 2:45 so the options were limited but we got chocolate chip oatmeal, peanut butter, and white chocolate macadamia. As a was walking to Goodie Tuchews, I was crossing my fingers hoping it was still in business. A lot of downtown businesses had a tough go and shuttered down. Ohhh when I spotted the sign still hanging up... I sighed a big sigh of relief. Yay! The cookies are soft, thin, moist, not overly sweet... just downright simply delicious. I luv all the flavors of which they have a boatload of them. But I do have favorites...my top two are peanut butter and semi sweet chocolate chip. Yum! She uses top notch quality ingredients and no phony flavorings, so flavors are truer. Cookies are $2. The cookie shop is still right there on 1015 L Street next to See's Candies and near the Starbucks. It's open Monday - Friday 10am-3pm or until the cookies are sold out. They take card, cash and G payments. Another cool fact that it's a woman powered solo biz. The owner has been baking cookies and running the shop for 41 years!! Yup... 41! A small but mighty shop. I wrapped up a huge project and wanted to celebrate, so I treated myself to a cookie from this shop! I appreciate how cheap the cookies were. I feel that prices have been hiking up recently, and this was decently priced. Usually, I can't pay anything with credit card without an absurd fee and/or a minimum charge, but I was thankfully able to pay with Apple Pay. There were about 8 different types of cookies, and I got a simple chocolate macadamia cookie. Cookies taste fresh and home-baked. They're soft in the inside and slightly crispy on the edges. They remind of "grandma's cookies" that are baked with love~ I met the owner and she was sweet and humble! Since I work in the area, I will probably stop by more often! Cookies! I love me some cookies! I tried to get some here earlier in the month but turns out that the shop was closed for the holidays. No problemo as I was able to swing by recently when it was open. If you're a big fan of oatmeal cookies (like I am) you're going to love this place. This shop holds its name as the oatmeal cookies that I had here (one oatmeal raisin and one oatmeal chocolate chip) were delectably chewy. So so good! Wished I could say the same for the other cookies; the other cookies were a little crumbly, which in that sense only would still be okay cookies but these cookies were also on the bland side. Even the peanut butter cookie, which I think is the *ultimate* chewy cookie type in general, didn't have much of a chew and also didn't have that peanut butter flavor punch that I love in peanut butter cookies. This cookie shop is still worth a visit especially if you're in the area (better make a stop here if you're sightseeing the state capitol because the place is literally right across from it!). MmmmmMM. Scheduled a delivery as soon as they opened and received a fresh, warm batch of a dozen cookies. Judge me if you want, but I love the oatmeal everything - a good cookie is a good cookie, and that's all Goodie Tuchews takes out of their ovens. There's not too many raisins in the oatmeal everything (my personal preference is for more, but I think this is enough for the average person), and it's not too thick of a cookie (I'm not a huge fan of thick cookies). My second favorite is the butterscotch cookies, which are more sweet of course than an oatmeal everything, but not throat-burning sweet (am I the only one that experiences that?). While I'm generally someone who enjoys a crispier cookie, these are just right. They're soft when fresh, they harden a little when leftover, and are still just as tasty on day 3 (okay maybe we ate them all by day 2, I can't remember, time is a daze, especially when you're in awe of these perfect cookies). read more

I was looking on Yelp for a dessert place nearby that we haven't tried yet...and came across Goodie Tuchews. You can't go wrong with ice cream sandwiches, right? And their name is catchy too.. Goodie Tuchews is a small little shop on L Street...and I really mean small. Don't blink or you might just miss it. You walk in, you're right in front of the counter and that's it. I wonder what it's like when it gets crowded in there. There are a ton of cookie options... from your regular chocolate chip to your peanut butter chocolate chip or chocolate peanut butter chip... All classic flavors that you can't go wrong with. The menu shows prices for cookies or ice cream, but not for ice cream sandwiches (which is what I saw on the Yelp so we had to ask and make sure they served it still). For ice cream flavors, she had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and mocha almond fudge, but vanilla was out today (the most common flavor, really!?). I went with an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie sandwich with chocolate ice cream. She put a TON of ice cream, yay! As for the cookie, it was crunchy but the ice cream helped take my mind off of the crunchiness. I don't think I'd eat these cookies alone though. I'm a fan of soft chewy cookies...which is why I think I'm going to remain a loyal fan of C.R.E.A.M. for any future ice cream sandwich cravings. read more

I used to frequent Goody Tuchews many years ago when I worked downtown and was giddy to discover this gem was still operating when I took a drive down L Street last week. It was already past closing time but I made a point to go back the next day. Happily the same smiling face and cheery voice of the owner greeted me when I opened the door and the delicious aroma of freshly-baked cookies enveloped me. Chocolate chip macadamia was there, hooray! Two please! And of course I eagerly pointed towards the famous sugar cookie. With a hint of cinnamon on top, it's like a snickerdoodle but less aggressively spicy and even more deliciously vanilla. A chewy oatmeal raisin cookie rounded out my 4 for $5 selection. Suffice it to say, these beauties didn't last very far into the evening. Yes, I'm not ashamed to say I ate all four before the day was done. So very delicious and comforting, one and all. Next time I'll show a little more restraint but in my defense, it had been way too long since I'd had these fantastic cookies. Came with another reviewer recently and enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. It's not the most amazing cookie I've eaten and it seemed a little pricey. In other words, it's not a place I'd recommend, nor would I turn it down if it were recommended to me. I assume the owner of this little, hole-in-the-wall establishment was also the one who served us. When we asked her about the different options she was nice but very matter-of-fact. With others behind us in line, I made a quick decision and ordered up a classic sugar cookie and chocolate chip cookie. For $1.25 a cookie, I'd expect something far tastier and bigger in size than something store bought. These were only slightly bigger, if at all, and there wasn't anything remarkable about the taste. They weren't hot like they'd come out of the oven recently; more of a luke warm. I can't cut on Goodie Tuchews because they didn't necessarily do anything wrong beyond maybe charging too much. Adjust the price or your cookie size and you'll see me coming back more often. read more
