Stopped by to try their seasonal items. They currently have a few apple inspired flavors. I tried the flight which comes with 4 flavors. I chose Coffee & Love Nuts, Pear & Blue Cheese, Vanilla Apple Custard Tart, & Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu. All were unique in their own way but my fav was the coffee & love nuts. I love tiramisu but the pumpkin pie tiramisu was my least favorite. Definitely try them before ordering. Staff were friendly. There's seating outside.
I'd only been to this place once before and I only tasted samples because I was with someone that was getting ice cream. This time I went and took advantage of couple scoops, however they got my order wrong and I didn't realize it until I was already halfway through it that they did not give me the ice cream that I asked for. Nonetheless the ice cream was still good. I would go back here again. Only thing I don't like about this area is parking, I got a parking ticket while I was there even though there are some portions of the street where parking ends at 8:00. Other than that everybody is nice they will let you taste every single flavor that they have. They do have a quad scoop that you can get and you can try all four flavors to take home for about $10. I think that's a pretty good deal
I love Salt & Straw. The ability to sample all the ice creams is AMAZING! And I super appreciate that they use actual metal spoons (yay for less waste). They have options for everyone (vegan, sorbet, pup cups haha), which is awesome too. They also have prepackaged ice creams in the fridge too. It's also such a vibe inside and also being able to sit right outside and enjoy your ice cream. My dog is a fan of their pup cups as well. Wonderful customer service too and very patient! I will say, as someone who gets reactive hypoglycemia occasionally..this will definitely do that to ya. But I mean..worth it lol.
This place is so unique. I've never had flavors like these. Olive oil ice cream?! Blue cheese and pear but somehow yum! Pickled cucumber was interesting too. I went with strawberry and coconut water sherbet...refreshing, flavorful and creamy. Love when a place is this bold and willing to experiment. Line moved fast and there's outdoor seating with umbrellas. Will definitely be back to try more flavors!
I was able to catch the end of service after walking back form a concert and there was still a line out the door on a Saturday night in May. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I chose the cinnamon snickerdoodle. It was amazing. Cookie pieces with cinnamon ice cream just hit the spot. There are lots of tables outside to be able to sit and enjoy your treat.
I was craving a sweet treat on a weekend afternoon, so I went downtown to try Salt n Straw! They had so many flavors and combinations that I have never heard of before. I like how they let you sample any flavors you want to help with the decision making process. I tried a few and went with a scoop of olive oil ice cream, and a raspberry marzipan princess cake vegan ice cream. Both of them are so creamy, delicious, and I loved the unique taste. They are well staffed and the people who helped us were very friendly and patient when we were trying some flavors. There is plenty of shaded seating outside the store, and a bench that can fit a few people inside the store. I already plan on coming back again this month because July is going to be hot and I need cold ice cream to cool down!
Ice Blocks Location late at night almost closing and it was busy , Great ice cream flavors went with a scoop of Cofee & Love Nuts and a side of Tacolate (like the spicy kick) staff was great and quick service . lots of parking and they do have tables out front to sit and enjoy your ice-cream . Great for families! they have packed pints ready to pick up and take home
GIRL. I have never had any of the combinations on their wall of flavors! I truly was gob smacked at every single one. I probably tried 8 to 9, because the sweet person on the other side of the counter so I can try as many as I wanted to and with no pressure or impatience she happily let me try as many as I wanted. If I could go back, and dare I say it, I would try the pair and blue cheese, one again as a whole single scoop. A wild flavor and weirdly delicious. If you prefer flavors like vanilla and chocolate, this is not a place for you. You need to truly take your tastebuds out for a spin here.
Came here on a Tuesday night around 8:30 PM and was honestly surprised to see a line out the door! Even with the crowd, the experience was well organized. They had an employee at the entrance managing the flow of customers, which kept the shop from feeling overcrowded and made the wait much more pleasant. The staff was friendly and encouraged us to try samples before deciding, which was a nice touch considering how many unique flavors they offer. I ended up getting the Chocolate Gooey Brownie, and wow it was absolutely to die for! Rich, creamy, and packed with chocolate flavor, it was easily one of the best scoops of ice cream I've had in a long time. My husband got a grape flavored ice cream (I can't remember the exact name), and he loved it too. The menu has tons of creative flavors to choose from, there's outdoor seating available, and the overall atmosphere is great. If you're in Sacramento and craving ice cream, Salt & Straw is definitely worth the visit!
Love sampling all the unique flavors they have. It's fun being able to dispose of the sample spoons into the little slot right in front of you. I went with honey lavender. I love lavender flavored stuff and this one has a strong lavender flavor. It's a bit too sweet for me though. The texture of the ice cream was okay, it had too many little ice bits in it.
I'm so glad there's a salt and straw location near where I work! I came here after work to pick up a treat on my way home. I had a birthday reward from their app so wanted to redeem it before it expired. Their birthday reward is really generous since they give a free double scoop for your birthday! I ended up getting a scoop of Honey Lavender and a scoop of Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons. I love that their ice cream is made fresh in house and how unique their flavor variety is. I also appreciated that they put the double scoop of ice cream in a tall cup rather than a little cup especially since I still had to drive home after getting it. Overall, I'm ready to go back to try more of their flavors!
After having a delicious burger a few doors down, decided to stop by and get some dessert at Salt & Straw. I've been to this spot before last December and liked their ice cream offerings. Although it's a small place, it is very clean and well maintained inside. There is patio seating outside but no tables inside. Ordered the cinnamon snickerdoodle in a cone which was very delish! Hmm I think I got the same thing at the last visit Lol The staff were efficient as there was a short line and service was very good. Will for sure visit again.

Someone strolling down Ice Blocks on a random evening likely has two questions in mind: 1) Why is there a line out the door? and 2) What in the world are these ice cream flavors? For me, the line lives up to the hype. I can't think of a single ice cream parlor more creative than Salt and Straw. Some of the menu options sound absolutely absurd such as Melon + Prosciutto, Pear + Blue Cheese, and Strawberry Pretzel Salad. Despite the wackiness, they're doing something right with these flavors. I opted for their limited edition Strawberry Pretzel Salad. It has a salty crunch that brings out the sweetness of the strawberry ice cream. I also detected some cream cheese in there, which works really well! Can't wait to drop by again for their next lineup of limited edition flavors. read more

Anytime I'm craving ice cream and see Salt and Straw as an option when traveling, I know they'll get me right! I got the Kid's Scoop of the Coffee and Love Nuts and almost wished I got the adult size because of how good it was! Salt & Straw just gets it right. Their ice cream is excellent, and these two flavors stand out even among their lineup. They have tasting spoons to try new flavors. The Pear and Blue Cheese is outstanding. The pear is clean and sweet, and the blue cheese comes through with just enough tang and salt to balance it without overpowering anything. The texture is rich and smooth, and the combination works better than it has any right to. It's one of those flavors you end up thinking about later. The Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper is equally strong. You get real strawberry flavor, think a PBJ on white bread in summer,a touch of honey sweetness, and the balsamic adds a nice depth without making it sour. The black pepper is subtle but noticeable--it gives the whole thing a little edge and keeps it from tasting one-dimensional. It's well balanced and genuinely interesting. Both of these are worth seeking out. If you're in Sacramento seek them out. read more

I love love love Salt & Straw-Ok now that we got that out of the way let me tell you why. Salt & Straw is just awesome-their flavors that they always have are so unique,so creative-so yummy-heck they can even make something that sounds so awful and make it tasty-I'm looking at you Arbequina Olive Oil flavor-their ingredients are so high quality that I feel you can actually taste the difference. Salt & Straw is so wonderful,heck when I'm traveling and I find out there is a Salt & Straw,I always add it to my itinerary-like what happened during recent trips to Las Vegas and Downtown Disney.I have a friend in Sacramento where we visit Salt & Straw literally 99 times out of a 100 times we have hung out-it's just known it will be part of our visit. One of my favorite things about Salt & Straw is they have a monthly rotating menu that are generally themed to go along with their classic flavors.For example this month the theme is cereals,so all the limited flavors are inspired by a popular breakfast cereal ala Lucky Charms,Grape-Nuts,Rice Krispies.Other months have some fun themes,my favorite being October,which has ice creams all inspired by different popular candies or candy bars-that one is the best. Some of my favorite flavors on their classic menu are 1.Coffee and Love Nuts 2.Chocolate Gooey Brownie 3.Salted Malt Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough 4.Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons Most of the time sadly when I go there though I'm usually so full from dinner that I end up just grabbing a pint($13.95) of whatever flavor is speaking to me on that particular visit-my last visit I got the yummy Rice Krispies-inspired pint called Snap N Crackle Marshmallow Treats-I sampled that one and the Lucky Charms inspired ice cream and the one I purchased was just phenomenal-had to get it. I will admit this ice cream is pricey-for sure not something I do every week or even every month but it is something I do whenever I want ice cream-life is too short to suffer with bad ice cream. In closing-if you ever find yourself lucky enough to be in the vicinity of a Salt & Straw location and you want to indulge a bit-I fully recommend trying out Salt & Straw,they are bound to have something on their menu which will truly tickle your fancy. read more
I've been aware of Salt & Straw at the Ice Blocks, but it took visiting the location in Roseville. To finally check out this particular location. I'd just finished having lunch with the family, and wanted to take my girlfriend's younger sister for desert. I told her ahead of time that Salt & Straw is known for crazy ice cream concatenation, that sound so crazy at times. At this particular location and time they had "Last Chance Scoops" flavors to include "Matcha w/Toffee Marshmallows" and "Essense of the Ghost". We all got different flavors of ice creams and sorbet, and I decided to try the limited edition Salt & Straw + Taco Bell "Tacolate". It reminded me a the childhood classic Taco Taco so I was interested in trying it out to see it waa close to the classic. What made this particular collab interesting was the "sauce" that came with it like a Taco Bell hot sauce packet. But instead of hot sauce the sauce the spread was a Mango Jalapeño sauce. Which brought a sweet & spicy mix to the ice cream taco. Overall: Definitely worth a try is you're into standard ice cream flavors, or if you like to try some extremely unique flavors! read more
Thrilled that Sac has a Salt & Straw. We've been here quite a few times since they've opened their doors and each visit has always been a good experience. We always look forward to their seasonal flavors. Space is very very limited Inside so you just grab your ice cream and enjoy it outside. Overall, a solid ice cream parlor worth coming to. read more
Salt & straw has the smoothest most decadent flavored ice creams avail year round. With seasonal flavors and boozy additions, you can't go wrong picking up a tasty treat with your loved ones. Even when it's freezing outside in 39 degree weather, I still crave the salted caramel on a waffle cone. Located on R st in the Ice Blocks, this is a small ice cream parlor with minimal outdoor seating. The employees provide great customer service, handing out samples of every flavor avail upon request. Using metal spoons and quality ingredients, and gaining popularity by being in Disney Land, Salt & Straw is very popular and modern. Give them a try soon! read more
If you're a late night sweet treat kind of person, then Salt & Straw is thee place. Every time I'm craving ice cream, this is my go to. They have the best classic flavors but also the weirdest, most creative ones and honestly... that's what makes them stand out. We stopped by on a Tuesday night around 8:30pm and it was packedd. I'm pretty sure it's because of their new Cereal-sly Delicious Series, which totally lives up to the hype. Even though it seemed like they were a little short staffed, the team handled the rush so well and kept the line moving. I ordered the Snap n' Crackle Marshmallow Treats and my husband got the Concord Grape Nut Crumble. Both were soooo good. The Snap n' Crackle is definitely on the sweeter side with little bits of rice krispies mixed in that give it the perfect crunch. It's nostalgic in the best way. The Concord Grape is perfect if you love something sweet with a slight sour twist. The toasted pecans add such a good crunch and balance everything out. Overall, this place is such a staple for us whenever an ice cream craving hits. This cereal series might honestly be one of my favorites yet. read more
Salt & Straw is a popular ice cream chain from Oregon with exceptionally good ice cream. I don't think I've been to Salt & Straw once without having to wait in line, and that's at all locations - Oregon, San Diego, San Francisco, Roseville, and this R St. location. Sometimes the line is wrapped around the block and sometimes it's short, within the store. Most recently, I came on Thanksgiving week specifically for one of their November monthly flavors - Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream. This flavor only comes out once a year in November and because I had this flavor in a previous year and liked it so much, I remembered to come this month just to try it again. Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream has buttery toasted rolls in the salted buttercream ice cream. It surprised me how much I liked it. Each month, Salt & Straw has 4-5 monthly flavors, usually in line with the themes of each month. For November, they had Thanksgiving flavored ice creams including Turkey Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce, Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu, Maple Koginut Squash with Pomegranate, and Cranberry Orange Sorbet. The Turkey Stuffing and Maple Koginut Squash were pretty interesting, but not for me. In addition to their monthly limited edition flavors, they carry classic flavors year rounds. My favorite is the Coffee & Love Nuts...so good! Their Honey Lavender and Chocolate Gooey Brownie are also top choices. One of the best perks at Salt & Straw is being able to sample the ice cream flavors before ordering. From what I've seen, the workers don't limit the samples. Customer service has been really good. The store is small and to-go only as there are no seats indoors. Right now, for November 2025, a single scoop is $6.95 and a double scoop is $8.95. Waffle cones are $1.65. Really great ice cream shop on R St. at Ice Blocks in Sacramento. read more
We stopped in after dinner while visiting the area, and the smell of fresh waffle cones baking outside pulled us right in, it was irresistible. The line moved quickly, and the staff was fantastic, patiently explaining flavors and offering plenty of samples. I ordered a small Gooey Chocolate Brownie, and it was absolutely delicious. Honestly, the single scoop was pretty generous, next time I might go with a kids cone for the perfect portion. There's outdoor seating available, which made it nice to relax and enjoy our treats. Wow! I never thought I'd say this but it was too sweet! I grabbed a scoop of the sea salt and it was very creamy and super sweet. Great vibes and location, plenty of seating the enjoy your ice cream outside and enjoy the sun. Great friendly service. I'll try the tacolate next time! read more

I came here after dinner last Wednesday with 2 friends. This was my second time here. The entire staff was lovely, very welcoming and friendly. I'd like to give a special shout out to Beth, she went above and beyond. Beth was patient and helpful in helping me with samples and making my final decisions. I got split scoop for $.50 more, which means you can pick 2 flavors for your single scoop instead of 1. I appreciate their quality of ingredients and super creative flavors. I enjoyed the chocolate brownie and salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough on this occasion. read more
My friend and I had to try their holiday flavors this season! On a cold weekday evening, we were the only people inside the shop. I ordered a small, with the traditional Cinnamon Snickerdoodle flavor and a special Peppermint holiday flavor. I was able to try a special cookie dough holiday flavor that was very flavorful in the one bite that I had, but slightly strong than what I wanted for the night. I loved the warm and rich blend of the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle with the more sharp and crunchy Peppermint holiday flavor. Both my friend and I got small sizes, but we were struggling to finish our ice cream after a filling dinner. Good service and great location in Sac. read more

Overall, one of my favorite places to get ice cream in Sacramento especially when you're looking for unique flavors. I always want to come here every month because they have limited time flavors for each season. My go to flavor is their honey lavender. I'd highly recommend this if you love floral flavors. Dessert: (4/5) Single Scoop of Jack of Lantern Pumpkin Bread ($6.95 + $1.65 for waffle cone): This was a limited time flavor. It was delicious. It tasted like a blend of pumpkin bread and Starbucks pumpkin chai latte. There were large chunks of pumpkin bread, which did take away some of the ice cream aspect of this scoop. It tasted more like pumpkin bread with a side of ice cream. (4/5) Single Scoop of Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons ($6.95): This ice cream flavor is perfect for caramel lovers because they do not skimp out on the caramel ribbons. Every bite had chunks of caramel. However, as someone who only likes caramel and does not love it, after a few bites this flavor became overly sweet and no longer edible. A kid size scoop would have been more than enough. Service & Ambiance: (5/5) The service here was great and quick. The staff are very patient and friendly, allowing me to taste test two different ice cream flavors. They provide big heaps of the samples on a reusable metal spoon to help reduce plastic waste which I love about them. After taste testing, all you have to do is throw the spoon into a little shoot they have towards the bottom of the glass cover. The service here is very quick. Even if you see a long line out of the door, you will be in and out of there in less than 5 to 15 minutes. The store itself is quite small with little to no seating space indoors. They also have limited seating outdoors, with only about 3 to 5 tables. read more
This is one place that encourages unlimited samples of all the new monthly flavors and some classic ones. The new flavors can be a hit or miss, but it is what keeps returning customers when you find a new favorite. I personally love coffee ice cream and Coffee & Love Nuts is my usual! It has wonderful bold coffee flavor with cocoa covered candied nuts. Some days when I feel adventurous I will go for the Olive Oil Ice cream or the taco ice cream. I think the wild berry cinnamon sauce on the taco ice cream is really unique and I have purchased a few of these when it first came out. I unfortunately forgot I had these in my freezer and waited a couple of months before I ate the last one and the taco shell got soft. So I recommend eating these fresh from the shop and not stock them up in your freezer. Overall, you can't go wrong visiting once a month for a sweet treat. read more

The flavors here are on another level. They're creative without being gimmicky, and everything we tried was rich, smooth, and super well-balanced. You can tell they really care about the ingredients and how each flavor comes together. I also love that they let you sample, which is dangerous because you end up wanting everything. The vibe is fun and lively, and even when there's a line (which there usually is), it moves pretty quickly. The staff was patient and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. My husband and I found this place hiding in a corner downtown. There was a line outside when we reached, and now I know why! Such a beautiful spot for ice cream, short menu but the best flavors. I recommend everyone to try the Chocolate Gooey Brownie, the best for a reason! Also, you can sample all, they give you a mini metal spoon that you can deposit back after each taste test. Perfect location and great flavors. Monthly menu features combinations that pique anyone's interest. Strawberry pretzel salad and goat cheese Marion berry habanero is a must try. My all time favorite is honey lavender though. read more
I'm here too much now but I love trying Salt & Straw's unique flavors. I appreciate that they always have their classic flavors and their limited flavors that switch out every month. For July, the memorable ones for me are the birthday cake & blackberries, and the goat cheese marionberry habanero. I was surprised that they moved the Wild forged berry pie from the July berries series to June's summer pie series. No complaints, just please make sure Wild foraged berry pie continues to come back (= I can definitely taste the quality in the ingredients used to make their icecream whereas some places use extract for their flavors. Can't wait to try the farmer's market series flavors. read more

This place is very popular with the midtown residents, and with good reason! They have some really interesting and sometimes bizarre flavor combinations that show up for their monthly series, like Chocolate chip zucchini bread and pickled cucumber sorbet!! But they also have "regular" flavors (if honey lavender and cinnamon snickerdoodle can be called regular) that are always there. Regardless, the flavors are rich and creamy and they are happy to let you taste as many flavors as you like. They even have a sign, encouraging you to taste them all! Ha! Challenge accepted! Every time I have visited, there is a line out the door, but that's because there is only space for a single line in front of the scoop counter. They generally are really quick about getting everyone serviced, unless you have people, like me, who almost try every flavor before deciding. Even so, the servers were very patient and fun while I made my choices. Honestly, the flavors are all so unique that it's almost impossible to review them all. Suffice it to say, the ice cream is really good. I'm somewhat an ice cream snob since I make my own, but this place just encourages me to be lazy and return for the next monthly flavor suite.
