It's great to have such a professional and friendly vet in the neighborhood. My buddy Jimmy Kibble LOVES Dr Flanagan. He sits in her lap and he's a 70 lb Pitty. It's a nice clean office that is friendly and warm. This is great when you're stressed out because your pup thought it was a good idea to eat something that wasn't on their menu. They have several different health care plans that include regular checkups and shots. We lost our previous pup Rez to cancer, and their "Dog Bedside manner" was comforting, very sweet and they sent us a condolences card with a touching personal note. I feel they care for my BFF (Best Fur Friend) as if he's one of their own. read more

I brought my dog in for an emergency visit after he injured his foot and was later told he had a broken ankle that would require surgical repair possibly with plates. As you can imagine, this was already a very stressful situation, and I was trying to act quickly to get him the care he needed. After being told surgery was necessary but could not be performed at this clinic, I immediately contacted my vet a hour & a half away who was able to perform surgery. This vet clinic asked for the x-rays right away so they could prepare. I requested multiple times that my dog's x-rays be sent over and was repeatedly told they had been sent, but the receiving clinic confirmed more than once that they had not received anything. This caused unnecessary delays in an already urgent situation. While trying to coordinate between both vets, I had the other clinic on the phone and was actively waiting on the phone with me till the x-rays were sent. Instead of being helpful when the second vet wasn't receiving the x-rays Goodvets staff became defensive and dismissive when I explained that the files had not gone through. There was a clear lack of urgency and accountability, which is extremely concerning in an emergency setting. The billing was also extremely questionable. I was initially quoted $547 for the emergency visit and x-rays. However, when I went to check out so I could leave and drive to another clinic for surgery, my bill had increased to $998. This included charges for services that had not yet been completed, specifically a specialist review of the x-rays that I was still waiting on. I had to question these charges in order for them to even be acknowledged. What was most upsetting was the way I was treated when I asked for clarification. The veterinarian was dismissive, visibly frustrated, rolled his eyes, and told me I was "wasting my time" and to "leave." At no point did I feel supported or taken seriously, despite the fact that my dog had a confirmed fracture and needed urgent surgical care. At this point everyone in the office who worked there kept saying "today is a bad day". very reassuring. I understand that clinics are busy and high-pressure environments, but that does not excuse poor communication, inaccurate billing, or lack of basic professionalism and compassion. In a situation where timing, clarity, and coordination are critical, this experience fell far below expectations. I ultimately had to leave without confidence that anything had been properly handled and seek care elsewhere. When i got to the second vet they told me nothing was broken & he had torn a ligament. IF THESE PEOPLE CANNOT READ X-RAYS CORRECTLY THEY SHOULD NOT BE RELYING ANY INFO TO THEIR PATIENTS !!!! EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!! I would strongly caution others to consider this before coming here, especially for urgent situations. read more

Been going to GoodVets since I moved to Chicago ~2 years ago. I won't go so far as to say I like taking my dog to the vet, but I will say they make it a lot less painful than other vets we've used. That isn't to say it's less expensive. Like most vets, they're pretty pricy, but they have a monthly pet wellness plan that actually helps quite a bit. Especially with routine care. It covers 2 teeth cleanings every year, and just one of those on its own would cost more than the plan for a year. It also includes all of the vaccinations he needs, waives office visit fees, and gives discounts on a lot of other things. Between the routine care and my dog's heart murmur, the wellness plan saved me literally over $2000 last year. I have really appreciated that it's something they offer, and I can't imagine going to a vet that doesn't have something similar. Also, the front desk staff are always very friendly and helpful, it's never too busy, and always clean. I also appreciate that they've never been late to start one of my appointments. I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for a new vet. read more

The GoodVets experience is weird. I've been twice now. I brought my dog in last week for routine vaccinations. I understood there would need to be an exam first. Before the veterinarian even came into the room, and before I had a basic conversation with the technician, they were handing me a $750 estimate with tons of other services I never asked for. I explained to them I only wanted the necessary vaccinations, as that was all I could financially do that day. It quickly became them trying to convince me on the additional services, and frankly, they were relentless. The first time I went for my dog's UTI, they tried to push hard for a $1000 dental cleaning. Their entire business model seems to be about trying to get the up charges, and they're trained to sell. The most alarming problem for me was my dog had a bad allergic reaction to one of the vaccines about the third of the way home. I called GoodVets to let them know about the reaction, and that I was on my way back. It was about 1:00pm on a Wednesday at this point. The receptionist tells me there are no vets left in the office, so they couldn't help me. She had just gotten the shot! They could offer nothing but telling me to go to the emergency vet very far away. I had to pop into Broadway Animal Hospital asking them to save my dog, which they did. I think I'll be going there from now on. read more

Came in with my kitten on Thursday because I felt she was breathing heavy and very lethargic. They did an exam and told me she was fine. I specifically asked about her breathing. Saturday she's still not seeming any better, she's actually worse. I took her to the emergency vet and she crossed the rainbow bridge. I can't help but think if the vet here was able to see how unwell my kitten was she could've had a chance. I'm devastated and angry and I wish I had taken her somewhere else. read more

I would not recommend this vet at all. My German Shepherd had a hematoma on his ear, and the vet drained it and inserted a straw to allow continued drainage -- but failed to properly post or support the ear structure. The straw caused the ear to collapse, and by the time we realized it was damaging the ear, it was too late. Scar tissue had already formed, and now my dog's ear is permanently deformed. read more

I just recently moved to Chicago a few months ago from Texas and have not had a chance establish care at a clinic just yet for my dog, Tucker. Tucker hurt himself over the weekend and his symptoms were similar to what I experienced in the past in Texas. Since I had not established care at a clinic I was worried that we would have to go to the ER and wait hours to get Tucker some simple pain relief. This would have been a waste of the ERs time and my time. I called goodvets this morning and Dr. Flanagan was able to squeeze Tucker in today, confirmed my suspicions were correct that his injury was similar to what we experienced before and gave him some pain relief. I am very thankful for goodvets taking Tucker in on short notice despite not having established care at the clinic. In addition, the clinic was beautiful and modern. The rest of the staff was punctual and super friendly. Tucker and I will be back for all future visits at the clinic! I will also be taking our cat soon to establish care. While I had always have a good service and treatment by the medical team, today was a huge disappointment for me. I have called for an emergency asking for advice and help and the front desk was only capable of telling me they had no availability. I understand that but the lady didn't even try to give me or help me find information to solve my issue. I needed an urgent health certificate to travel. I then called VCABlum hospital, where I had never been before and the lady bent her back backwards to find me the information that could help me. Our longtime vet was having severe staffing issues which lead us to seek a new vet for routine care. We chose GoodVets in Uptown, a decision that we now regret. Our cat's initial visit revealed no major health problems. However, over the course of five months, he was seen for a variety of new issues including dermatitis, poor appetite, pronounced weight loss, and anemia. With the symptoms continuing to worsen, we recently had a follow-up appointment due to concerning blood counts. Our vet had apparently submitted her job resignation but gave us no warning of her imminent departure when examining our cat that day, no plan for who would be taking over our cat's care, and no reassurances that there would be continuity of care. She ordered an urgent complete blood count, which we found out two days later had not been correctly processed and needed to be drawn again. Just days after being examined, our cat developed gross abdominal swelling and blood in his stool. GoodVets did not answer the phone for several hours during posted operating times, both for a period in the morning and again in the afternoon. After multiple calls, I drove to the office and found two front desk staff chatting away in an empty lobby. No explanation for the unanswered phone. The replacement for the vet who had resigned examined our cat but failed to assess his distended abdomen until I reminded her to do so, even though this was one of the primary reasons that I had brought him in for. At that point, she stated that "his belly did not feel normal" and she took him to the back to collect some fluid. She stated that an ultrasound was vital to diagnose his condition (concerning for cancer), but the soonest that it could be scheduled was eleven days later. When we expressed concern that this seemed to be an emergency, she replied that we should watch for lack of eating and immobility, but no other sense of urgency was communicated. We immediately sought a second opinion. Our previous veterinary service now had the staff to take us back, and they went out of their way to schedule an ultrasound much sooner. Unfortunately, our cat succumbed to his illness prior to that, and required emergency euthanasia for respiratory distress due to accumulating fluid. While I can never know exactly what happened, I'm resolved that this was a serious illness that likely would have resulted in a terminal diagnosis, even if it had been detected much earlier. However, I feel that important steps were missed during multiple physical assessments at Good Vets, and that the seriousness of the situation was not appreciated or conveyed by GoodVets at any point and especially in the final days. I will not be using GoodVets again. read more

We moved to the area and needed a new vet. They have taken care of him every visit. He isn't stressed out to go in. The receptionists/vets are all nice. I got him neutered here, and they answered all my questions and gave me a tally of the total before the procedure. Everything went well. He was jumping around the next day. When I first moved into my building across the street, I met the staff because they came over to introduce themselves to my very pet friendly building. They gave me stuff for my friend who was a new cat mommy and left a good impression. When I suddenly (and so luckily!) had an English bulldog rescue approved, I immediately signed him up for their unlimited monthly care plan. He gets all the visits he needs, flea and tick meds, labs, etc etc for less than $100 a month. They're so close to me that I'd have tried them out even if they weren't an impressive start up with nothing but glowing reviews. Most of the people in my building seem to go there. When they had to close early one day and I wasn't alerted to my appointment being moved to an e-consult, it was frustrating but the dr still called me to ease my anxiety and explain everything to me. They told me to stop In anytime the next day to pick up the needed meds and have his salt burned paws looking at. The vets have been great about emailing me after labs and in response to questions about them and giving me referrals I asked for. It's not easy finding a new vet in a new city but I lucked out that they literally came to me. I believe the first consult is free for anyone. I don't think they have the wellness plans for cats but they seem to go the most conservative routes possible. They aren't there to drive you into anxiety or guilt induced debt. read more

I brought my kitten to here for his shot and planned his neuter with the vets here. We had bloodwork done prior to the neuter, where he was completely cleared for the procedure. I brought him in on Monday. I was called and told he was ready for pickup after 1pm, and could retrieve him any time before 5:30. I arrived at approximately 2pm where they told me he was fine but hard to wake up. The next day he was not in good shape, I called them and they said not to worry. Next day, I called again and explained he was extremely lethargic and I thought something was very wrong. Once again, they claimed he was fine and did not need to be seen. I finally brought him in Thursday where they said he had gone COMPLETELY BLIND and was have neurological issues. Both of which are complications from cats being administered TOO MUCH anesthesia. He had a completely clean bill of health when dropped off (according to their records as well.) The vet was completely heartless, going admitting no fault whatsoever and tried to charge me nearly $500 for his follow up visit. She avoided questioning, was combative, and extremely rude. His decline was swift that night and he passed away. This was due to awful negligence and I was offered no compassion, sympathy, or good faith. Neutering is one of the most routine procedures done by vets, they couldn't have missed the mark further. My kitten only lived 6 months due entirely to their negligence. Please please don't put yourself or your animal through the heartache and pain of seeing these vets. Update: Just received a phone call from this office trying to get me to remove this post and completely gaslighting me. Forgot to add that on Thursday I was told that the office was closed on Fridays, this is untrue. read more

Great service from my initial call throughout the entire visit. I called multiple places nearby, including my regular vet VCA Blum, and they all had extra fees for a same-day appointment. Blum and NCAH charged $100+ for same day 'emergency' visits. McKillip, Pets First, another one I can't remember -- all not taking new patients. Etc. I was getting stressed. Called Good Vets at 9a and they had availability at 10a. The receptionist was incredibly kind and outlined pricing clearly. Awesome! My cat Ellington was having some urinary issues and I was concerned he had a UTI. Blum went the route of saying my cat is near death and they need to run tests that could run $500-$2000. Without even examining him first he was going straight to x-rays and tests. I've had a couple friends whose male cats have had this issue and they were offered an antibiotic first to calm things down. I just wanted someone to slow down for a second, listen to his actual symptoms (only UTI symptom was running to the litter box a lot without a lot happening. No blood, vomiting, peeing outside the box, etc), and then discuss next steps. Dr. Cordes determined he didn't have a UTI, but some bladder pain and inflammation. They didn't rush me at all and were extremely calm. Ellington was jumping around the room exploring and was super at ease with them. I asked for costs during the phone call and the visit was $65. An additional $135 because he was dehydrated and they gave him a saline injection as well as inflammation meds. This also included medications for me to administer over the next couple days to get him back to normal. Only thing I wish is that they slowed down a little bit when going over what meds were for what (pain meds and inflammation). Total visit was about 1 hour and cost was $250. My heart was still pounding from hearing Blum saying he's about to die when GV stepped in and calmed everything down. If anyone ever asks, I will be recommending Good Vets. Receptionist said this location had been open for about a year. It was incredibly clean and festively decorated for the season. Just a welcoming environment with knowledgeable staff. 100% recommend. read more

I highly recommend this vet. Everything was so easy and smooth from checking in to actually being seen by the Dr. The place is so clean and don't smell at all. Most vets have loud barking Dogs in the lobby, long waits, and no available appointments, this is not the case here. No other pets in the lobby, no smell or urine anywhere, and I was able to book an appointment the very next day. Iris our vet tech was amazing. She was so kind and informative. The vet, Dr Zalar was also so sweet and gentle with my baby. I love this place and I will definitely be returning. read more

I've been here a couple times now. The front desk girls are very nice and accommodating, the have free refreshments and you can tell they love animals. Also I forgot my dog's tags and they saved them for me for months which was beyond sweet. My only issue is that when I came to get checkups it was more a consultation both times, the first check up, just his heartbeat was checked and weighed. My insurance want a nose to tail check up and for $75 I thought we'd get a bit more. The second checkup was a week after my pet was sick, they didn't have much availability (happens), but we did end up just talking about his behavior issues (which are a major concern) but not why we originally came in. He was limping that week too. When I asked for the paperwork for my pup, it only mentioned his anxiety and not the other issues. The doctor is going to put a small note about his prior issues but because they're "resolved", it wasn't an issue. However, nothing was checked to make sure it wasn't something more serious. I'm probably not going to get covered for my insurance now which is frustrating. ***Also, my dog is sick again. I'll be taking him somewhere else. read more

Even one star is too much! I took my senior cat there for a simple checkup and finding the reason for the loss of appetite. After the vet consultation, the nurse wanted to take him to the backroom for a blood sample and I offered my help to handle my cat but she said " No worries, we are good at it". After 50 minutes they came out, my cat's mouth was full of blood, his leg was under the bandage and his level of stress was high as the sky which made him urinate himself. The nurse said they were not able to do anything and ended up like that. Now I know what does mean when they say " we are good at it". The only good thing that happened was they refund my money in full. Be careful when you take your pet there, they do not know the first lesson of veterinary which is how to handle pets. read more

3/19 I brought my cat here for the first time for a cough. The location is very convenient. We don't have many stores located this far east. It's right off of Lake Shore Drive. The lobby was immaculate and the receptionist was kind and efficient. I saw them cleaning the exam room before we went it. It was spotless. Not a pet hair to be seen. The vet tech came in shortly after entering exam room and took down his information. Anything I was unclear on, she made sure to understand. Dr. Flanagan came in a couple of minutes later and listened to my concerns and my theories on why things were happening. She actually listened to me. It was the first time a vet listened to what I had to say and guess what? We now have a game plan for my cat so he won't suffer during allergy season. It's such a relief to know I'll be able to help my cat. Dr. Flanagan let me know that if anything concerning showed up on the bloodwork, one of the vets on Saturday would call me. Otherwise, she'd follow up on Monday. And she did. So glad they're here! read more
