I asked my niece and nephew if I could take them shopping for Christmas. They said yes - thrifting! They found a highly rated place in Berkeley on Shattuck but it was a Friday night and the parking there sucks. Plus we had dinner plans at Zachary's on Solano. So - compromise... we went to the Albany Goodwill on San Pablo. They were finding armloads of clothes and everything was super inexpensive. Pictures attached are the two sweaters I would not buy my niece because I knew her mother would kill me. My nephew found a cute pink striped cardigan, a Stanford sweatshirt (because we're a Cal Berkeley family and he thought it was hilarious), some authentic looking striped Adidas and a variety of more shirts and tops. My niece couldn't find any good cargo pants but got a ton of other stuff. Including her favorite find, a crew neck sweatshirt that said "Kelly is my lawyer." I'm glad the kids have their Aunt Kris's obscure sense of humor! I even found a delightful $10 Ugly Christmas Sweater to wear to my company holiday party. Service here was just fine, we didn't experience any of the negativity that others did. I'm so happy that teens today love to thrift. It was something my friends and I did heavily in high school and college because we were poor. They do it because it's cool.

    Rudest Employee at Goodwill!
    Regina E.

BEHOLD THE RUDEST EMPLOYEE AT GOODWELL!!!! JOSEPH First of all: HIGHEST PRICES of most Goodwill stores I have seen. Fine... I like charity. He did not offer a bag or to wrap my breakable items before he took my card & checked me out. I asked for a bag, and he said it was 10 cents. Fine. As I was looking for my 10 cents, I commented that he must have a rough day based on the rude way he was talking to EVERYONE. He then kicked me out as I was frantically looking for 10 cents. Finally, another woman gave him a quarter and said she was appalled as to how she was talking to me and decided not to buy an ENTIRE CART worth of goods because he was so awful. He refused to give me his name, but the receipt said Joseph. BRO. IF YOU HATE YOUR JOB- GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE. I wasn't rude. He was literally fighting with another customer and took it out on me who couldn't find a dime in time. Kicked me out of the store. Our interaction was maybe 3 minutes long.

    Great housewares
    Hey It's M.

Recently redone and much better! Many small houseware items, and great shoes. Brand name (New Balance, Nike) shoes are frequent and good quality.

Note different prices on lids that Joseph said were always $10 after charging me that for one not priced separately.

$10 for a man's long-sleeve shirt. At a secondhand store! You're better off spending that money on something new from Target.

    Ask the Community - Goodwill

Do you still give receipts for taxable donations?

No but for small fee yes.

I heard that the Albany store and Berkeley store are closing, are they still opened? If so when is their closing dates?

Albany store is definitely closed. I'm fairly certain that the Berkeley store (on University Avenue) is also closed.

A California judge has permanently banned Kars4Kids from broadcasting its deceptive advertising…read morejingle in the state. On May 8, 2026, Judge Apkarian of the Superior Court of California, County of Orange, ruled in Puterbaugh v. Oorah, Inc. and Kars4Kids that the charity violated the California False Advertising Law and Unfair Competition Law by intentionally misleading donors through omission. The court found that Kars4Kids' ads, which featured children aged 8-10 and the repetitive jingle "1-877-Kars4Kids," created a false impression that donations benefited underprivileged children in California. Evidence showed that 60% of funds were transferred to Oorah, an organization supporting Orthodox Jewish programs in New York, New Jersey, and Israel, including matchmaking services and gap-year trips for young adults. The ruling states that the ads constituted an "actionable strategy of deception" by concealing the religious affiliation and geographic focus of the beneficiaries. Under the injunction, Kars4Kids may only resume broadcasting ads in California if they include express, audible disclosures regarding: The organization's religious affiliation. The geographic location of its primary beneficiaries. The actual age range of beneficiaries (clarifying whether they are children or families).
