My favorite thrift store! I always find so many holiday decorations and great clothing brands like J. crew, banana republic, Ann Taylor, etc. there's always good finds with 100%cotton, silk, cashmere. I am always excited to come by when I'm in the area. The location is always clean and organized. The staff are friendly and helpful. I also love that they have lots of carts. A lot of goodwills have very little carts and it's hard to hold everything. read more

Here we go, this place is pretty basic in regards to a Goodwill as they are consistent with being willing and ready to ring in the donations. My family is big on donating and have always turned to Salvation Army & Goodwill mostly due to the convenience of being able to just pull up and drop off. We honestly prefer donating somewhere that provides items to the less fortunate for FREE. The fact that this place, alongside Salvation, actually resale the items and not for a good price as I could sale the items for a better price myself. I usually contact a shelter that take donations for residents when donating or call Habitat for Humanity to have items picked up from furniture to clothing as they are used directly to clothe and furnish homes for the less fortunate at no cost to them. I've been inside this location a couple of times with my family who were in town looking for a vintage top. I did witness a couple of people getting items they desired at reasonable prices. read more

Crowded on a Sunday as the nearby church had let out. Coincidence or not, this place was packed with bargain shoppers. And the parking lot had a decent queue for people dropping stuff off. The best deals and the widest variety of stuff in great condition in this Goodwill is clearly in the clothing area with a long rack of designer jeans, neatly hung up. Other clothing was neatly organized and priced to sell. In the furniture and home goods department, much of it looking rather beat up. A large selection of VHS cassettes and DVD disks picked over and stack haphazardly. I did happen to see a really decent looking sofa at the amazing price of $14.99. That's just nuts! Location-wise and selection-wise this location is one of the best, located just south of Ballantyne. You don't go to Goodwill because of the great service, but the service here has become, increasingly more friendly over time. It is also a little better organized than most, as well as a little cleaner. Drop off is also very visible out front for donations. My biggest problem is its incredible spike in prices over the last few years. For example, men's shirts that used run $0.99 are now $3.99. But that doesn't appear to deter shoppers as it is always bustling with customers. read more

There is a lot of stuff here but there are no fitting rooms so you can't tell what works and what doesn't. Kind of essential in a thrift shop in my opinion. Left empty handed and time wasted. This location is fine. I wish it would have more selection of Men's items. It is overwhelmingly women's clothing and accessories. I feel like they could put a little more thought into the clientele that frequent this location. It is usually busy which is good for business however not so much if you are trying to shop. I have on occasion found some items I have purchased and have been pleased with, they were in fair to good condition. They could have more employees at their registers to help alleviate the long lines at the checkout. Over all this Goodwill is fine. read more

Over the years I have donated quite a bit of stuff to Goodwill. And from time to time, I also enjoy shopping for bargains there too. So, I was excited to hear that they were opening a store in Ballantyne. I finally made it into the store to check things out. It is a new store, so it is very clean and the facilities are nice. But suprisingly, this store didn't have a great selection of stuff that interested me. Maybe they were just picked over when I was there, but I didn't find a single thing that I liked. However, if you are a parent and looking for bargain back-to-school supplies, they had a good selection when I was in there the other day. Overall, I have had much better luck over at the store in Matthews. But, since they are continually getting new donations, I will be back to check things out again next time I am in the mood to go thrifting. read more

First thing's first - I love thrift shopping. I have a strong desire to stop into Goodwill and Salvation Army and the Army/Navy store every time I pass one. I can't help it. That being said, I've been in a lot of thrift shops. And this one is... ok. There's nothing really special about this Goodwill. It's usually pretty clean, and doesn't have that smell that you find in some Goodwill locations. The employees are friendly and seem like they've put up with a lot of thrift shop crazies. They have incredible amounts of patience. I can usually find some nice jeans - even labels like Lucky, Gap, Express, etc. all in nice condition. You have your regular Goodwill issues - there is certainly a lot of junk here. As one yelper said, they sell everything from broken glass to mayo jars. Some of their furniture is over priced, they had an Ikea table that sells for $1 more brand new from Ikea. But I did find an art easel once for $10, so its usually worth a look. I enjoyed shopping here and would pop in pretty regularly just to search for treasures, until I stopped in on a Tuesday. Then I learned that you should NEVER stop here on a Tuesday.... Tuesday is seniors 65+ discount day. Beware. These cute elderly ladies turn Goodwill shopping into roller derby on Tuesday. One woman tried to take a jean jacket right out of my hands. They all have 87 items in their carts, and want every one wrapped individually in paper for the ride home. And they are genuinely rude and rough when it comes to an item that may have any value. So good luck, stay safe, and maybe wear some padding if you've got to stop on Tuesday. read more

I don't know why on earth I keep stopping in here - probably because it's on my way home and a good time-waster while traffic dies down. I have never been in such a crappy Goodwill; don't be fooled by the "Ballantyne" location - wealthy people tend to not get rid of anything good, and this Goodwill will tell the tale. You will not believe what Goodwill tries to sell here; things that should have been tossed straight into the garbage - if not by the bozo-donor that thought it should be donated - then at LEAST by the employees rather than putting it on a shelf. When they first opened for business, I stopped in and saw a somewhat-cute porcelain container with a handwritten label "Cornmeal" on it. I opened it and, no lie, it was full of moldy green/black junk, soggy cornmeal and an odor to wake the dead. GAG!!!! Amazingly enough, it was there the next 3 times (over the course of 2 months) that I stopped in. One time, they had an empty glass bottle on the shelf - a bottle that you can buy in the grocery store that actually contains something - salad dressing!! Really??? Today, I saw a "Marie's Salad Dressing" jar for 29 cents. WHAT'S WITH PEOPLE DONATING STORE-BOUGHT SALAD DRESSING BOTTLES? More importantly, why do Goodwill employees put it on a shelf?? Also, there was a glass ice bucket with the glass knobs broken off, just begging for someone to cut their fingers on the shards of glass jutting out on either side. Oh, and they wanted $3.00 for that gem. Also, an old flower vase with a huge crack down the center. As I was browsing their books, I heard what was surely an unruly child in the toy section. Surprisingly, it was an employee tossing things on the shelf without any regard to whether or not the items got broken, or how much noise he was making. Good location. Dropping off donations can be a pain. It can take forever and you can be in the way since it's up front. The staff is pretty friendly. This is one of the smaller goodwills in my opinion. I've had some good finds. One time I found a LongChamp purse here for $3. My husband loves their selection of books here. read more

Absolutely awful! The service here has gone from impeccable to impossible! Plenty of workers and yet 2 cashiers with a line thru the store. They move at the pace of molasses and wait until you have rang everything up to tell you there are no bags so you have to make several trips to the car or look like you are robbing them blind and just pile it all up and schlep them to the car. I've said this before but I'm new to "thrifing". I'm still trying to learn my way around the days to go and how to find the best deals. It's a process. It takes time. Well my girlfriends have mastered this talent and after we had brunch we stopped in to do some shopping. My first thought after I walked the door was that I liked how everything was color coordinated. So I wouldn't have to dig through gobs of stuff just to find the perfect shirt. Instead there was a rack full of same colored items. That's awesome. That being said, everything else was a bit disorganized. Perhaps it was because there were so many people, or that they were restocking and pulling items out of the back whatever the deal...I was just overwhelmed. The good news is that my friends ended up finding some cute dresses and blazers, so that's definitely a win. I left empty handed but I'd come back to check this place out again. Ridiculous. This store is ridiculous. I have bought several fireplace screens here in the past. I keep a spreadsheet of all my purchases, along with the costs. I typically pay 7.99 to 9.99 for a fireplace screen. Today I went in and found a screen that I wanted. It was not marked with a price. When I got to the register, they called a manager. Angie came up and took the screen to the back. She brought it out with a price tag of $19.99. I told her that I am a regular customer, which she knows, and that price is out of line for what fireplace screens cost here. This one wasn't even as nice. She looked at me and said, "yes, but you get the senior discount today." This is proof that they are marking items up on senior day. I think this is called price gouging. The other Goodwill stores, especially the Weddington Road store, are so much more pleasant. The staff actually smile at you there and act like they recognize you. More importantly, the prices are consistent and fair there. read more

Well, it's not perfect, but it is a goodwill. On an errand in ballantyne I noticed this goodwill and thought "oh, why not?". The space was fairly clean, minus the shards of glass from the items one of the employees kept dropping as he restocked. A decent selection of 49 cent records and movies, but the women's accessories were less than exciting. They had a lot of stuff that wasn't out on the floor yet, including a few china sets, so I'll probably pop back in if I'm in the area. I also found an awesome wood handled 60s fondue pot for under $2, but it was amongst piles of complete junk. Not going to drive to ballantyne just to visit this store, but always nice to find a decently clean and uncrowdedn one to shop in. read more

I have found some really good things here. Usually there isn't really anything great here, but if you come often enough, you may get lucky. Workers here are very nice and helpful. It's one of the better Goodwills in the Charlotte area, is it because it's in Ballantyne? Not sure how that works, but if you come here a lot, you will probably find something cool. read more

Oh my god what a lousy place. Too cheap to pay employees to clean up they close the dressing rooms at 8:30. The store doesn't close until 9 so you may end up sanding there with a cart full of stuff you can't try on. Go anywhere but here. read more

Sorry but I'm about done with Goodwills in the greater Charlotte area. No sales, no clearance, usually not that clean, most of the time there are very long lines for the checkouts, the stores are small and the items are crammed on the shelves, and they're items are overpriced and rising!! That definitely applied to this location. read more

In general, I really like this Goodwill. There is a high turnover with new stuff every day; however, the store is always busy with a lot of foot traffic. It depends on what you are looking for, but I would recommend stopping in regularly if you live in the area because there is new stuff every day. If lots of people in a tiny space gives you the heeby jeebys just thinking about it, you should probably steer clear. There are screaming children galore here, and inevitably, you will find yourself playing human Tetris down the aisles. As you may have gathered, this doesn't bother me, but it is worth noting that this store isn't for everyone. read more

Pretty good collection of stuff here. I tend to find better clothes here than at location near South Park. Definitely more inventory here. It's super tight though - pushing a cart around is crazy difficult and even more of a pain bringing a kid. People taking forever in the dressing room and it's piled up with clothes. Don't go on Tuesday or Friday's...sooooooo crowded. Really nice employees here. read more

My mom came here a few months ago and found a gliding chair for about $15. The cushions are gross and need to be redone, but it was a great find. My husband and I stopped in last week and found some clean, cute baby clothes. We also found a child's book that looked as if it had never been opened. As far as I'm concerned it is a great location and has a lot of great items, especially for baby who grows way too fast! read more
