This Goodwill Store in Hayward was the smallest store I have ever been. They are missing a fitting room. So, I have to buy it and try it at home. Bring it back to exchange if it doesn't fit. Haha. It would cost me $600 to fly back to exchange a $3 shorts. It's ok. I'll buy it and if it doesn't fit, I will donate it to my local Goodwill store. And I'd much rather donate than throw things away, so I was glad I found this place. I come here pretty often when I'm in California and it's okay. Definitely hit or miss. Some(most) of their prices are wonky, like their long sleeve shirts are $10, regardless of brand. Meaning, their cheapest long sleeve women's shirt is $10. You can go to Target and probably find the same shirt for cheaper, and brand new. Every now and then you'll find a higher end brand also for $10 (if not marked up) so it somewhat is a "good deal" but not really. Goodwill gets these items for free so it makes no sense to charge this much for clothes that will end up in a landfill if not sold. Their toy selection is bad, I went in 3x in 2 weeks and no new toys. Makes you wonder where the donations are going because every time I've come in, there are a bunch of people donating loads of things. Their home selection is not good, hardly anything noteworthy. If there was something somewhat good, I'm sure it's marked up to oblivion. Staff is friendly so that is always a plus! The cashiers have been friendly every time so good job there! read more

Super easy drop off--a worker was outside sorting when I got there. He advised me to remove the items from the bag I brought and dump into one of the bins outside. I didn't have to sort, all of my items went into the same bin. The worker was very nice. No issues. Will utilize this facility for future drop offs. read more

As a avid thrifter, the quality of items of my first visit and only visit wasn't there. There are key things I look for if I know if I'm gonna be a repeat visitor and none of them checked a mark in my notes. I mean, there has to be some good branded items that people donate but where are they on the sales floor and I think this has to do with alot of the East Bay Goodwills. Quantity is there though, there's tons of clothing, shoes, cd's and etc. parking is easy because it's in the big lot and it's next to Dollar Tree so you'll find it. read more

Staff have been nice although they seemed to snag items they like for themselves (Keurig coffee machine) and take them out the bin and inside...whatever, I didn't want the stuff anyway. To the other patrons dropping off stuff: I understand some people get attached to their stuff and it's hard to let go BUT please have decided that you ARE going to donate your things before you get to the bin. A couple had two grocery paper bags of items (not a lot) and stood in front of the clothing bin having a full conversation about whether they wanted to keep it. I tossed a clothing item into the bin on the side and then they had a problem with it. Let's not have conversations. Drop it off and go!! Another lady wanted to jump on the band wagon. I have been to this thrift shop a few times. It is next to a 99 cent store on Hesperian Blvd. I highly recommend going to 99 cent store first to see if they carry what you are looking for and/or dd's down the street on Hesperian. Goodwill thrift products are priced higher or the same and no returns accepted unless electronic. Under the umbrella of non profit executive salaries are in the six figures. Yes with the donations received they do train community people with health issues and pay minimum wages. Do they provide medical and dental plans? Now that would impress me. I understand there is an accountability board, however, I believe it responds to the executives. You may want to donate to a better balance non profit organization like the Salvation Army. read more

October, 2020. I went there again a couple weeks ago to buy a couple pairs of jeans for my work on the cheap. My job is pretty dirty and definitely not the kind to wear your best set of Gucci to. My experience was definitely a three-and-half kind. Nowhere near a four star. Since Yelp doesn't allow half star ratings, I'm giving it a straight three. It's understandable why returns are not accepted or the fitting room is unavailable. Blame it on the Corona. It's not the store's fault, but you better know how to size things up without trying them on. Here's the part that makes it go from four stars to three. If you're going to implement public health measures, DO IT RIGHT! None of the jeans on display have tags or ANYTHING else to check the size without touching them. So guess what happens? Yep! Customer after customer use their hands to open the inside of each jeans they like to find the tag with the size! All day long!!! Before the pandemic, this was a hassle, but not deal breaker. But now, eight months into the pandemic AND the beginning of the third wave, the above scenario still going on is beyond unexcusable, it's unacceptable!!! read more

Soon as I walked in some lady shouted at me "oh you need your mask on" and looked at me like she was happy she said that to me and was expecting me to turn away and leave the store. I pulled out my mask and shouted back "thank you". And then I watched her in a Gentle voice tell another lady to put on her mask.... She proceeded to kick me out of the store because I didn't comply with her crazy request. They don't have much stuff is mostly rundown clothes and they are pricey for what it is. I usually make donations throughout the year and the Thrift Store I would normally go to stopped providing receipts and then eventually closed. A friend recommended this Goodwill store. Although they do not have a drive through drop off option and the shopping center is a bit crowded, staff was very friendly and I got my receipt for the items I dropped off. First off, I totally understand that the world is crazy right now and quite honestly in the grand scheme of things this is minor. However, being that my entire career has been in customer service, most of which was in retail management, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Also, today was the first time I was able to donate to Goodwill after making several attempts over the past couple of weeks. Somehow every location I went to was either not taking donations that day, did not have the proper "safety" equipment to allow donations, and this past Sunday, one even closed right as I approached their bins after I waited in line behind several vehicles for 45 minutes. So as I write this, keep in mind that my head was already not in a great place regarding Goodwill knowing that I could have very easily just tossed the amazing amount of donations I've made this year with much less headache but wanted to do something good with the items I no longer need and try to help those less fortunate than I. Fast forward to today. I am currently suffering a pretty bad gout outbreak in my right foot which also has caused tendonitis in the same foot to flare up. I pulled up in front of this location like I have many times before to unload and a very nice Goodwill employee informed me that I cannot park there because there is no parking allowed in the Red Zone. First off, I totally understand red zone laws and yes, I should not be parked there. So, question 1. Why would you have a drop-off area in a red zone knowing people will have a car full of items most often? Question 2. Why is this the first time ever I have been told I need to move my vehicle? So, anyhow I moved my vehicle, grabbed a shopping cart, and hobbled back and forth for 5 trips with my donated items. As I am making my final approach, I notice a car sitting in the red zone, and the same employee who asked me, and others to move their vehicles is still out front. The person driving the vehicle parked in the red zone is wearing a Goodwill apron but entered the store before I actually got there. I then asked the gentleman, so why is it ok for this person to park here? He says because that is the GM's car. I said, so the GM feels it is fine to park in the red zone but does not want people making donations to? I said I was in retail management for years and I would never have made a decision like this. The client's needs should always come before the desires of store management as any business cannot survive without their customers. He just shrugged looked away and walked back into the store. As I walked back to my car the GM came out and I heard an older lady make similar remarks and heard the GM just berate her about she's the one that has to work in the store etc... This experience has sadly led me to seek out alternative places to donate and I plan to try and avoid Goodwill going forward. read more

This goodwill is by no doubt overpriced, but I do highly suggest coming by when there is a 1/2 off sale. They have a vast selection of clothing--anything from overalls to leather jackets to pencil skirts, like a thrift store should have. They also have a pretty good selection of boots--I'll definitely come by during the next sale. The blouses are usually 5.99-6.99, and the T-shirts are about 2.99 for reference. read more

Ah, I worked for this company for six weeks. I am a 64 year old woman in very good physical shape. Oh, I do have a 4 year degree in science and at the time was well aware of the COVID-19 health mandates in the city I was employed in. When I asked why hand sanitizer was not supplied for incoming customers That was my mistake. Lol. Never was anyone counting customers coming in the store. I was transferred to another store that was closed to collect and sort donations. The bins were huge plastic bins (which carry Covid for numerous days) were filthy dirty and the wheels were caked with string and dirt making it difficult to push the containers filled with books or glassware that would be trashed. I did not know that over 50% of the workers were Xcons. I got my 2nd Covid immunization and went to work. I was very ill and walked out when the young 'assistant manager' continued her dogging on me. Rottknee, the man in charge never spoke to me. The other two workers left items to sort when I had a day off. I would come in and do their work. The people that donated items were absolutely lovely. My manners are excellent and I would never in a million years treat other human beings the way Goodwill of the East Bay treated me. Two weeks after I transferred to the 2nd location I worked and cleaned nonstop. Do not drop your items at Goodwill. You may believe your donations are given to people in need but they are not. They garbage usable clothing like clean socks needed by disadvantaged people Sure, they are a nonprofit but that is only a tax diversion. Myself, I have been abused and Goodwill Industry only abused me more. I am an honest, good, clean, hard working person. My skin is color, hard work ethic and intelligence should never give a business the right to abuse and use tactics learned in prison. I've done my research. Apply there if you are uneducated and have a need to be manipulated and used. My problem is that I trusted a business that does not represent what the general public believes. read more

I came here twice (on the same day) to drop off some books, chinaware and clothes that I wanted to donate. The staff that helped me out was very efficient. She told me where to drop off the stuff I wanted to donate and gave me a piece of paper for receipt. Overall, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes without really waiting on someone to assist me. I did not go there to shop so I can't say anything about the price, however I saw that some of the prices were relevantly affordable compared to original market price. They do not have designated parking, however you can park anywhere the parking area and can easily find a nice parking spot close to Goodwill. read more

This goodwill sucks. They sold me a broken Christmas tree during the holidays and there was no way you could even put the tree together. How is the customer suppose to know if the tree is in working condition if the box was closed and all taped up? So when I got home, I was excited and took everything out only to find out we couldn't put our Christmas tree up. I went back to the store and they didn't want to give me a refund, only store credit?? Wtf, I understand their policy (especially as I used to work for Goodwill), but to me it seemed like they were in the wrong here. They never have any good stuff and everything is overpriced! I tried to walk in and drop off two boxes off for donations. I was rudely turned away and was told that donations are closed by 7pm. No where does it state that there is a "closing time" for donations when the store closes at 6pm. It was also how the Filipina lady rudely turned me away, she made a shoo away motion and did not even apologize. I used to love coming here to donate clothes because it was so easy to park. There was a big bin on wheels that you could roll out to your car, toss your donations inside, roll it back, get receipt, and go. Now, the Goodwill has moved from it's stand alone location to the Mi Pueble shoppping center. First - there is NEVER parking. Second - there is NEVER parking close to the Goodwill. The last time and only time I made a donation, I grabbed a Mi Pueblo shopping cart from behind a car and pushed my stuff to the Goodwill for a receipt. This was after driving around for 10 minutes looking for a spot. The clothes also seem to be higher priced. Dresses used to be $7.99 and now there is not one priced less than $12.49. When I used to donate to the Goodwill in San Mateo, they had staff at the donation area to help unload stuff from my car. On a slow day you might get two people unloading for you and you don't need to do a thing. They always gave me a validated donation form so I could fill out what I'd donated for the tax writeoff. The staff at *this* Goodwill act like you came from Mars and when it comes to Martians, avoidance is the best policy. They don't lift a finger to help, they don't offer the donation form, they don't even say "thanks" or even give you a smile. You feel downright unwelcome. I'm taking my stuff to Habitat from now on.
