I'm a long-time supporter of Father Joe's Villages thrift store at the Washington Avenue location…read morein Hillcrest. Recently, I drove to the La Mesa store with a car full of donations during a very heavy rainstorm. I pulled up to the marked donation drop-off door but was told I could not park there and needed to move across the lot, get a cart, and bring everything in myself. I explained that i was not parking, I am handicapped and offloading since it was pouring rain, but was still told no. I ended up leaving without donating or shopping. As a loyal supporter of FJV, I was very disappointed by the lack of understanding and outright rudness.

Father Joe's Villages Thrift Store has a beautiful selection, and I have come across some real gems…read morehere. The quality of the items is impressive, and the store is well organized, which makes browsing enjoyable. That said, the pricing feels more like a boutique than a thrift store. While I understand that proceeds go toward a good cause, I often leave empty‑handed because the prices are just too high for what I'd expect at a thrift. For me, part of the joy of thrifting is finding something wonderful and feeling like I scored a bargain -- not like I overpaid. If you don't mind paying a lot more, you'll likely find unique and quality pieces here. But if you're hunting for that classic thrift‑store bargain, be prepared that prices may not match the typical thrifting experience.

What could improve?? A LOT! FIRST having a new graduate be transitioned out before they have a job…read moreand money saved up. What's up with that?? Second background checks on staff!!! Y'all just let anyone in eh? Im still freaking traumatized thanks. Mental health evaluations on people before they come into the program. Because....yikes! Im implicated in something I'm not even a part of . just because I knew a certain former staff member. Staff taking responsibility where it lies with them would also help a lot and go a long way. That place is a depressing program. I was harassed by staff and people in the program alike for a year. All bcuz I spoke up. Yet nothing was done to stop it or prevent it. They simply didn't care. More real life classes need to be applied as well. When you're done with the year you are not ready for the world again. No skills except laundry and housekeeping. If you are not versed in finances you are literally screwed. Stop following people when they go to Albertsons. It's creepy! AsF! I always looked over my shoulder when I left campus. Also the staff members will literally end up where you are going, bcuz they take back roads. It's EXTREMELY creepy and unsettling. The people in the program are not too nice ..they believe the gossip that goes around that place. They will clique up against you and talk smack. Go to your social media and take screenshots of your posts in order to start drama. Do I think this place has value? No not at all. Instead of kicking said staff member out, she was allowed to stay in the same dorm with me where the abuse continued. Towards the end of my stay there she finally ceased. Overall I wouldn't recommend this program to anyone.

I'm glad I'm reviewing this great business as my 500th review. Fred's Junk Removal is exceptional!…read more I did a simple search online and found Fred and his website. I just needed to get rid off an old guest mattress. Fred's website was extremely easy to use to book my appointment. I chose a date, time, and left my mattress off to the side in the driveway. You have the option of taking a photo of the item(s) you are planning to get rid of. The day of the appointment, I messaged Fred to ask him if he needed me to be awake for the pickup. I had just worked a 12 hour shift the previous night and was exhausted. He replied very quickly to my text. He was prompt in his reply, friendly and he assured me he would take care of it and be as quiet as possible. I thanked him and arranged payment. You can pay by credit card, Venmo or cash... multiple methods of payment is so convenient. I Venmo'd him my payment and went to sleep. When I woke up later in the afternoon, the mattress was gone just like he assured me it would be. I never even knew he was here (my room is near the front of my house). I will definitely use Fred is the future if I need any hauling done. I will also recommend him whenever I know anyone in need of hauling / junk removal.
