We were in the area and decided to stop by. There's street parking. The place is a hit or miss. They sort by color so it helps if you're looking by color. It's a hit or miss pending on what's donated. There's a small book selection they also have some kitchen ware but not too much. I didn't really find much here but maybe not much was donated that day also prices were kind of high for donated items. read more

But I'm asking the decision makers at goodwill to PLEASE bring the children's clothing section back to Haight street! I have found my son's favorite shirts and jackets there. I pop in weekly for a new seasonal piece of clothing for him, as he grows so quickly and I know there are enough clothing pieces already on this earth to clothe everyone for a century. Came to haight on a mission, secure a penny lane or more appropriately an Afghan coat. There is definitely a micro trend going on rn so you can see that through the suki waterhouse free people campaign. I intended to go straight the source, suede but was prepared to pay the consignment tax. I ended up starting at this goodwill and within 5mins of walking in I found the coat of my dreams made entirely of leather, suede, and in my size. For $29.99 that was such a steal and I still went into suede after and left empty handed. Not that there weren't beautiful vintage coats and jackets just be prepared to spend at least 300 although the selection is beautiful and deserving of that ticket value. Some pro tips come early and on a weekday if you can! read more

You used to be able to treasure hunt here and find some really great items. Unfortunately the new owners must have come in and realized how much quality $$$ items were being donated by locals in San Francisco and resold for cheap back to the community. It seems they've decided to funnel those treasures into online auctions or out-of-state locations instead, while leaving mid-to-bottom tier items in the Haight street selection and increasing prices by 50%-100%. In response to these concerns, they've replied to other Yelpers that the changes are so they can provide better service and a greater selection of items. They must think we're idiots who can't see right through them? I wonder how they would feel if a regional place with great service, prices, and selection suddenly lost all 3 of those things and the store said "ACTUALLY, you're wrong, it's all actually better now! Witnessed the staff kick out a homeless woman who was truly minding her own business. They said she "smelled bad" and had to leave. Isn't the whole point of goodwill to provide affordable clothing to people who can't afford it at market price? Obviously, it's a business, and its model is now directed at the shoppers of Hayes Street who can afford its fancy vintage stores as well as the goodwill, so they're willing to kick out the people who actually need it. Quite shameful, I hope they reassess this model and learn to give people some human decency. read more

To the residents of San Francisco, this is happening. Please read this important review. Something insidious is happening to Goodwill in San Francisco and throughout the Bay Area. It has been taken over by a corporation headquartered in Arizona and with this comes some very harmful changes to our community. 1. The hours have changed to 9 Am-9PM. If you live on a street like Haight, you know how unsafe it can be for business owners and retail staff after dark. The Goodwll on Haight is one such place. It is the only retail shop openned after 8 PM and it is putting the workers at risk of harm. There is no security for these workers. These workers are part of our community and are put in harm's way due to a corporate decision made by someone in Arizona who does not know or understand the reality of our community. Speak up on behalf of the workers. it is important that we keep our community safe 2. If you look inside The Goodwill on Haight, you will find that there are almost no winter coats for sale as we head into the heart of winter. It has been the cornerstone of Goodwill Stores in SF for years. Why are there no winter coats? Maybe because our donations are being collected and harvested for other markets. Yes, they are being sent to places like Arizona. Keep in mind that the motto of Goodwill is to support your local neighbors and community through your donations. I have been donating my clothes to Goodwill with the intention of seeing it made accessible to those who are in need in my community. My community is here in San Francisco and not in Arizona. The next time you are in a Goodwill in SF, ask yourself why there is an entire aisle of men's shorts in the middle of winter. That is because our donations are being sent to Arizona and Arizona's shorts are being sent to SF. These corporate decisions are nothing short of blatant thievery. They are stealing our donations and prospering by selling it to a different market. This is not community. This is a corporate takeover disguised and doing good in our community. I used to absolutely LOVE this goodwill -- the selection of clothes, the amazing staff, the showcase and jewelry were all top tier. However, lately the quality of items seems to be going downhill, there isn't any showcase, no mannequins and no jewelry, which is all very disappointing to me as a loyal customer. Goodwill of San Francisco is a good institution. Drop off your used clothes and items that they will take and re-sell to the public. If you had no idea what to do with your "junk" or "stuff you don't want in a home"--you leave it at Goodwill instead of at the public garbage dispensary.. Goodwill will select items and price them and sell them to the public to make a profit that may be "non-profit." I am not sure of that. I like to browse Goodwill in SF..it's Haight Street. This is my favorite Goodwill in the whole city after the one on Van Ness and Market closed. Nothing to write home about in terms of furniture and home-goods but what this place has is clothes! Haight Ashbury is known for it's eclectic hippy fashion but most the shops are more expensive than that demographic can afford. You'll save a ton of money digging through this GW instead. I've found some of the exact same pieces sold at other shops here for 1/10 the price. The way this place is organized is nonsensical, there are three different locations just for dresses and shoes are dispersed throughout the entire place. Come when you have plenty of time to really dig through the racks and wait in the always long changing room line. read more

This goodwill can have some pretty good finds but o the above rage they are pretty overpriced to be a thrift store . Their secondhand pricing marches that of a Ross and passes it in some areas most shirts are $10 shoes $14 men's shorts $10.. I got a backpack for $30 ..prices are definitely inflated because of ares IMO but all items are not quirky finds basic items you could definitely get a Ross/TJMaxx for the same price and cheaper brand new . Also this particular location offers no discounts like Teacher discounts resident discounts no special discount for particular color tag ply discount is seniors. I feel for this to be a thrift store they may have lost track of their purpose. I think because this Goodwill is surrounded by expensive consignment shops and overpriced secondhand shops you are made to feel like the pries here are a great deal but I'm not sold. read more

So the same Tour guide that told me about OFTC told me about the GoodWill in Haight-Ashbury as well, so again, we hopped on the Muni and made our way into hippie town and I decided to scour the racks. I'm glad I did! I wound up with a few good buys! I found a pair of 'Not Your Daughter's Jeans' (these kind retail for $125), A pair of Jag Jeans (retail for $70) A pair of Børn sandals (retail for over $70) and a pretty rainbow scarf ($10) I got all of these items for under $30 total. Even better? I guess all the walking up the hills here in San Fran has made me drop a pant size! read more

Here is a decent Goodwill located in the Haight. You won't find a lot of designer items here but the prices here are pretty cheap. I would probably avoid the H&M and Forever 21 pieces since those tend to be overrpriced. The store is organized by type of clothing and then somewhat by color. There are two fitting rooms but some people take a really long time to use them. I really don't know (nor want to know) what they're doing in there. I would suggest just wearing a tank top or something underneath your shirt to try on clothes. read more

If you're looking for apparel then you'll probably be pleased as that is what claims about three quarters of the floor space in this GW. Alas, I seek out housewares and decor for resale and that's just not their jam. I'd like to give this thrift shop a higher Mark but the Way I was treated makes it a 2 star. well stalked and alot of nicer clothes of all styles store is clean. and in general the staff is nice. The Gentleman in charge last Tuesday, snapped at me because I was crouched down near register adding my stuff and making sure everything was free of stains holes etc. and I had a jacket touching the ground. he came over and yelled at me to get it up off the ground. The store had maybe 6 shoppers. Seriously not a nice thing. politeness goes a long way. Im not a homeless person trying to steal. I actually work for a attorney and have plenty of money. then I wanted to check belts before I left so I went to the belts to look and he followed me over to the belts,stood there with his hand out asking me if I'm ready to leave? I looked him straight in the face and ask him if there's a time limit? That im wanting to still shop a bit more. ive been a customer at all the goodwills,the head managers at all of them know my face and even my name. I spend alot in there stores as I buy for Youth at risk in s.f. and love hunting for treasures. I left spending 92.00 and at 9.99-14.99 per item that's not alot,but is during a panademic. I'm very disappointed and irritated that I was treated so rudely for no reason but to be mean. Even if I did have a item touching the ground there are most certainly better ways to talk to someone. I needed a prom dress for the east bay prom party. Enter Haight Street Goodwill. I was actually surprised at how many different vintage dresses (bridesmaid, prom...etc) there were to choose from and how many wedding dresses there were too. Most of the vintage dresses ran about 14- 30 dollars and mine was about 26. I almost bought a pair of blue vintage shoes but at 15 dollars they were about twice I wanted to pay for shoes I'd wear once (I ended up going to the mission to get a pair for like 5 bucks). Good service and great for what I needed. I'll come back in December if more fabulously bad sweater parties happen this year. read more

How can you not appreciate a Goodwill that even has a whole section dedicated to animal print? If you're looking for something gaudy for some sort of costumed affair, or just looked to add some leopard print into your wardrobe- then get yourself to this Goodwill. Though this particular location tends to be fairly picked through - it's still worth a look-see. You never know quite what you'll walk out with - such as a CD player with wall adapter, some pots and pans, or some solid picture frames. Trust. read more

Nicely laid out store . Previously the Fillmore store had lots of stuff but this one now has a bigger variety. Fillmore no longer has many toys or jigsaw puzzles. Clothes seem to have taken over Fillmore. If I am "just looking" and don't want anything in particular, this is probably a better place to browse. As with all Goodwills, it is hit or miss, best approached with an open mind. Rarely will they have exactly what you are looking for. read more

Previously before entering Goodwill I was overwhelmed by my visit into Wasteland, the abundance of clothing and steep end price tags pushed me out of there. So I felt pretty damn awesome after grabbing awesome stuff here. The store itself isn't very large or clean for that matter. As many items were crowded and piled away into corners of the store. Certain sections were mixed up so it was hard to differentiate which were which. The items were not particularly old, as many pieces you could find were brand name and even items straight from H&M. They have a large section for women's (no surprise), men's, shoes, baby clothing, housewares and vintage clothing that's priced higher. The fitting rooms were a bit sketchy, you didn't get checked for how many items were getting tried on and if the room was open you could enter. Otherwise you'd have to ask an employee. Found an awesome embroidered floral collar blouse, polyester hot pink shirt, textured purple tank top and a gold mesh sweater shirt. All priced at around $2.49, score! The cashier helping me out was awesome, we ended up starting a conversation about my hair and her wanting me to do hers. As well as her trying to make me stay in SF the whole day to experience the city. Such a sweet lady. Left here with a happy heart and wallet, which was a great way to start my day in SF. read more

Have been to loads of Goddwill stores across California and am rarely impressed. This store though, was amazing. It had a vintage corner with lots and lots of cool pieces. The store was also clean and well structured. I went through the vintage section and found a dress and funky sweater. I am so glad I went by this particular store. Yey!! read more

This is the Haight - you *will* be dodging huge camping backpacks while slinking by or trading spaces with hippies in the aisles during the 2 Dolla Holla Sale (http://sfgoodwill.org/goodwill-two-dollar-sale/). The hipster progenitors I encountered were chill and thankfully had different sartorial tastes than mine, as I was able to get everything I wanted without hustling to snatch stuff up before other people took it from the racks. It's the place to shop for clothes, especially during the Halloween season. Pickings vary time to time. We've gone when there was absolutely nothing, and other times when we've gotten a couple of good fun finds. My favorite find at this shop was a pristine porcelain Goddess of Mercy statue where she's sitting on pastel lotus petals ($8.99). When I picked her up, there were lots of them! Today, I found Friendly Cannibals by Guillermo Gomez-Pena ($1.49) * a round ceramic tile with a black cat painted on ($1.99) * a solar-activated waving plastic good luck cat ($.99) * an Umbria 8 x 10 silver picture frame ($2.49), and * another smaller shabby chic enamel and metal frame ($2.59) that had gray roses and was sort of gothy. There was a wonderful ginger jar for $8.99 with a bat motif that I passed on. I can never hang on to my ginger jars for some reason, and always end up giving them to the first admirer that comes along. read more

After passing a number of relatively expensive vintage shops on Haight Street, I had to laugh going into Goodwill: a lot of the same stuff, for a fraction of the price! The best thing I found was a 1960's fringed jacket, priced @ $21. (I would have bought it, but I already own one.) As others said, it's fun going in here. You'll see a mixed bag of shoppers: international back-packers, original hippies, mild mannered old ladies, "cool" teenagers .... This store has more ambiance than my Goodwill at home, but in some cases prices are higher, and conversely, sometimes lower, i.e. $2.99 skirts .I only spotted two dressing rooms -- a drag when others are waiting -- and the store doesn't carry a ton of merchandise. (I guess real estate prices dictate a smaller space than the average Goodwill.) If you're walking down Haight Street and like to thrift, check this place out. This store is tidy and has a pretty diverse selection but the prices are higher than other Goodwill stores. Also, they do dumb stuff like sell the pieces of a set separately. I was purchasing a punch bowl here for a friend. It was a large bowl on top and then a base. When I got to the counter the woman ringing me up was going to ring it all as once piece (it was priced as one piece) and then the glasses each separately (they matched the set but I found them over in a different area.) However, the woman from the next register came over and said I had to pay for both the top and the bottom. I showed her it was a punch bowl how it all went to together and she said, "that isn't how it works and you're paying for each piece and the glasses." I was willing to hear her out about the price so I asked her how much. She said the glasses would be a dollar each and the bottom would be $9. I pointed out the top was only $6 and much larger than the bottom, so her pricing didn't make sense to me. She then said the entire set with glasses was $20, as if that was a deal, but there were 6 glasses, which meant her price for a set more than what she pricing individually. In the end, the entire thing with glasses was $17. The woman still caused a ruckus about it, took photos of it and went over to chew someone out about how they were pricing things. Honestly, I would have passed on the entire thing if I wasn't picking it up for a friend. A week later I found the entire set, all the glasses everything together as a set at the Goodwill in SSF for $9.99. *eye roll* Also, for all the reviews saying they have great vintage finds here, you would have to be lucky to find anything good if you're a real vintage shopper. The actual vintage shops in the area are going to swipe anything good before most people got in to find anything. read more
