Looked up places that serves pho, came across this Yelp recommendation. We've already tried majority of pho places in town, was just look to try somewhere else. I should've known where this was headed when I had to order by the American name of the dish. It came to about $14 to go, and definitely not worth the money. It tastes like packaged beef broth from the store with added salt. The meat was not the correct "thinly sliced beef" that usually comes with the dish, rather a chewy wrongly sliced other cuts of beef. The veggies consisted of bean sprouts, jalapeños, and cilantro with slices of lime. Would definitely drive 10 mins down the road for any other places that serves pho next time. Pros: amount of food Cons: expensive, salty and generic broth, poor packaging

My husband and I come here for dinner sometimes and love it! The food is always piping hot and so flavorful! We got the beef hotpot for about $25, and it was a good size and perfectly spicy! Just great to warm you up on a cold and rainy day. Usually quiet with plenty of seats available, so it's my go-to when I don't want to unwind and don't want to wait forever to be seated at a super packed restaurant.

Great food and good service. On a weekday night, the turnaround is super quick for a pick up order, which is about 15 minutes. Really convenient for someone who live within 15 minutes of drive

After so many more visits to this restaurant, I think it deserves some good words. I have not run into the same man on the front desk but instead the very friendly female owner. I have taken my coworkers here many times to try some authentic Chinese food. My go-to dishes are always Dong-Po Pork, fish sauce eggplant, saute green peas, thin-sliced potatoes, pork elbow, and spice fish filet. The food is always delicious and with speedy serving. For anyone who wants to have authentic yet affordable Chinese food, this is definitely the spot!

It says nothing about the beef being raw. I'm not sure broth that has been delivered to a home would be hot enough. Is this safe?

I am floored at the rude customer service my friend and i received last night ordering delivery from Goody Cafe. I typically like to support small businesses in the area and am reluctant to post such an awful review for an est. in my neighborhood. But this was egregious - within the world getting food at least! I had ordered from there before and it was good! My dish was good! Crab rangoon was fine! My friend ordered the D5 "Beef Thick Rice Noodle" for $10.95 from the delivery menu I had. It was listed under the "Chinese Dinner Menu." The beef looked raw to me and my friend (he is a student from Kenya) was perplexed. I thought perhaps it was very rare roast beef so I called to ask about it. Immediately the defenses went up and I was polite and just trying to clarify what the dish was. The woman who answered kept giving me unsatisfactory answers when I inquired. When I asked if it was raw she said that it was "cooked when you pour the soup over it" and I clarified with her that that meant the large plastic container of broth. She kept reinforcing that that is how the dish is prepared and I have no expertise to say that is incorrect. But common sense tells me that perhaps that dish is best NOT delivered. First there is the issue of the temperature of the broth when it arrives to my home - is it hot enough? Secondly, we had no idea that it was raw so what if we had simply waited and had very cold food without reheating? Yes, I have had carpaccio or tartare when that is what I expect and it is the proper cut of beef and been prepared under health code violations. This was not the case here. She repeatedly asked me if I had read the menu - rather than diffusing the situation which would have been so easy at that point! We were old friends getting together near Christmas and had no intentions of having Chinese Food delivery stress! She could have replaced it or offered suggestions to rectify but no, she just kept arguing. Finally, I handed the phone to my friend and told him I was done with the place and he could do what he wanted. He decided to have the meal replaced. When he selected something slightly more expensive she wanted to charge him! Say what? He just picked something that was the same cost. When the delivery person came in a fairly nice looking smaller SUV I wondered if this was an owner or manager as it wasn't the typical car of a delivery person. I decided to let him handle it at the front door while I stood at the back door watching my dog in back yard. She could have just said, "sorry" and handed him the replacement dinner as he was less upset than I was and would have let the issue drop. But she kept arguing. Her voice started getting louder and more shrill and his voice was not louder at all! I heard her say, "I want to see the meat!" I'm coming in there and you are showing me the meat." I walked through the house and told her she was not welcome in my home and needed to leave. She wouldn't leave. My friend told her she was being argumentative...you got it...no she wasn't...it was bad. Rather surreal because it is just Chinese delivery for heaven's sake! After asking her to leave repeatedly I cautiously closed the door as she continued to stand there. She left finally leaving the front gate where she had entered standing wide open no latch. So many missed opportunities to rectify this almost trivial incident (no one was sick). Such poor customer service. I wanted to give them a chance again to simply acknowledge that this was not a good customer experience last night and could be unhealthy eating raw beef unknowingly so I called. The first person who answered hung up on me when I asked for a manager. It was a clear hang up - I know a hang up... I called back and she tried to convince me that he had not hung up on me and then began speaking to someone else on another line. She missed the final chance to make this better before I wrote this review. The owners of Goody Cafe on Lindell in the CWE desperately need to watch an episode from the tv show Kitchen Nightmares called "Amy's Baking Company" in AZ. The owners will not take criticism and Chef Ramsey walks out on them (his first on the show) because all they did was defend themselves and not try to do better. Along the way they told the customers they were wrong! Owners of Goody Cafe please watch this show! It is on YouTube and was so over the top that people made cartoons about it and it took on a life of its own. Today, I called the St Louis Health Dept and told them about the raw beef. I don't want the Goody Cafe in trouble. I want people to eat properly cooked food or know that they aren't. Crazy huh? Never called before and don't intend to make it a habit. This is a great place for cheap, authentic Chinese food near the CWE (read: the only place.) As another reviewer mentioned, it's true home-style cooking, and not the fancy dim sum style some may be expecting. Ignore the lit up screens on top with all the Americanized dishes (unless you're just looking for lo mein and fried rice), and go for the secret menu on the counter instead. If you're not with a Chinese friend who can guide the way, ask the staff for a recommendation. I personally recommend the tomatoes and eggs dish, as it's a good intro to home-style Chinese food. The bubble tea is also solid. My favorites are the red bean and green bean ones. Fyi, you can ask for less sugar to taste. The rice, bowls, and utensils are self-serve. Get used to it. UPDATE: Goody Cafe's made a few updates to their menus and the authentic Chinese menu now has accompanying English translations! Woot. They also have a variety of "Chef specials" on a whiteboard in the back of the restaurant near the doors. Unfortunately, it's all in Chinese. Fortunately, they're all delicious. You can ask for recommendations from this list if you want to be more adventurous (e.g. intestines, pig ears.) There are also new hot pot soup and make your own stir fry menus that are AWESOME. Also, after tearing through essentially their whole menu by now, I can say that dishes are either a hit or miss. There are a few places on Olive that I prefer a great deal more in terms of flavor and quality, but the convenient location of Goody's can't be beat. I love popping for a quick meal or takeout when I'm too lazy to cook, and am craving home comfort food.

This place recently opened up, and the owner is the same person from the Boba (Bubble Tea) Kiosk in the food court at the Galleria. At the kiosk, she has plenty of flavors and choices. My friends and I would occasionally go to the mall every once in a while, and find ourselves in the food court waiting in line for a refreshing drink. While my standards for boba are certainly high, the drinks taste fine. They are obviously made from powder (not syrup), however they are delicious and refreshing. The boba pearls on the other hand are nothing to brag about. They are not chewy but overcooked and have no sweetness to them. I would suggest St. Louis Bubble Tea but for the sake of convenience, Bubble Tea kiosk is fine as it is. Expect to pay between 3.50 to 5 per drink. While this review is not for the kiosk, Goody Cafe has taken the namesake of their little place in the Galleria and expanded it into a restaurant. The location is a bit awkward, as it is located across the street of a Mcdonald, and near a Rallys and Arbys. In fact, you will see that there are plenty of fast food options that people would go to. Walk inside and you'll find yourself in a wide, tiled room. There are tables situated around the restaurant not in an order but random fashion. They are also the table/bar hybrid located along the wall of the place. My friends and I waited a few minutes looking around, but it turns out that you order first, pay, then sit down if you choose to dine in. I found it odd that after we did, a group of Mainland Chinese teenagers next to us sat down and the manager brought menus over, and held a notepad to jot down their orders. Regardless, the menu is small, but too small. They host a variety of flavorful drink orders. I suggest Yogurt (I know it sounds odd, but if you're from a prominent Asian community you'll know what I'm talking about. It's not Yoplait yogurt, but it's more a tarty sweet flavor). It's not on the menu but if you ask for it, they will set it up for you. The menu also awkwardly includes Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup). I haven't tried it, but it does not seem too bad. There are plenty of legitimate Viet places in the area. Besides drinks and nooodles, they also have some rice and fried rice dishes ranging from fried pork chop, chicken leg to pan seared fish. All of them seem tasty and I'm sure I'll find time to try them all. The main menu is an American-Chinese hybrid, and on the counter are menus written in Chinese. They include more traditional and real Chinese food that are more targeted for people who understand the menu. The service is sup-bar but given that this is a new place, it's not enough to divert you away from trying this place. The employees seem to be running around the place, and they do not have a separate division of chefs, waiters, and cashiers. One cook ran out from the kitchen delivering the food and messed up because she could not figure out who the food was for. It's very reminiscent of Chinese like habits in restaurants from my home town, but they should really fix it. I ordered the Pork Chop Rice dish. The meat was very salty but delicious. The rice was topped with a little amount of minced meat and slabbed with bok choy. It was fine for my standards of the Chinese restaurants in St. Louis. The service is not great (yet), food is mediocre, atmosphere is fine so overall the place is average. Goody Cafe certainly has potential to become a hotspot in the nearby Central West End vicinity. read more

Went for the bubble tea but grabbed some Kung Pao Chicken just because...I was NOT disappointed. It was so so so delicious. So much flavor and just the right amount of spice!! I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu and more bubble tea flavors. Also the woman (owner?) was so very kind. Not a thing to complain about!!! read more

Their food is ok and I've done carry out multiple times, but NEVER order delivery from them. We are currently still waiting for our food and it's been over an hour and half. When we called the store the lady rudely cut us off and told us it was on its way...that was 20 minutes ago and we live under a mile away from their restaurant read more

If you want to see some REAL feedback, then take a look at my comments. I had been to that resturaunt since it was just open there, in beginning of 2014, and I stopped going there in late 2014. Let me tell you the reasons why I stopped going there, and NEVER AGAIN!!! The price is now rediculous, the average price is around 15 per dish. This is WAY too more expensive than other Chinese resturaunts in Saint Louis. The crazy thing is that the price go up every time after they renew ther menu! Same menu different look, the price number got changed as they go higher. Scheme!!! Let me tell you in this way, I know a lot of Chinese resturaunt boss in Saint Louis and I know the gereral cost of running a resturuant, like area cost, food cost or something like that. The location of Goody Cafe is not the expensive area, it is cheaper than most Chinese resturuant locations, and they use the same food as they use, and they have the highest price!!! Some dishes prices are even 18 - 19, or over 20 after tax applied. This is the very important when you choose a resturuant! The food there is not fresh at all!!!!! The flavors are usually heavy to cover the bad taste of the food. I have diarrhea twice after I had meal in this resturuant. If you really want to get sick after eating, just go there. I live less than one mile away from this resturuant, and I would rather driver couple miles more to go to another Chinese resturuant instead of going here. Also, I know the boss here, she sometime asked me why I did not go there, here is what I say. Learn more about how to do business especially running a resturuant, before you treat your customers. Be advised, you should get more credits. read more

This place needs to get their shit together. The food is good, but I had to tell them more than 3 times what I had ordered (beef lo mien and a side of white rice) and the order was still wrong. I realize this place is new, but when you have 8 people in in the kitchen things should run a little more efficiently. Or maybe that's the problem, too many cooks? read more

Not bad! But also not great. Their bubble tea is short on bubbles and too sweet for my taste, but I'd still get it in a pinch. I would recommend their grilled chicken vermicelli dish. It's quite refreshing (cold noodles, chicken, and veggies - how could it not be?!) but could use more veggies. I'll be back with someone who can read their hand-written menu to see if there's a hidden treasure at Goody Cafe. read more

I was very disappointed by this restaurant. I was looking for a decent Chinese food spot near work, this was not it. For $12 I got a soda cup that the lid didn't fit ( makes for easy spill), an order of crab rangoon (which I sent back as I don't like it, didn't order it, and didn't pay for it), I didn't get an order of egg rolls (which I do like, did order and did pay for), and an order of ham fried rice (so much wet grease was left on the rice it was not edible for me). I didn't complain as I won't be back. read more

New place. Needs better service. Lady at the front is not friendly and constantly gets my orders wrong. Only reason I keep going back is for their boba. The food is semi decent. Only close/clean/decent Chinese restaurant near SLU so it attracts students. Needs to stay open later for good business. It closes at 930pm and 10pm. read more

I ordered here because they offered delivery. But when ordering delivery there is a minimum amount to spend of $15. So I got the grilled pork vermicelli, spring rolls, and bubble tea. When I opened the grilled pork vermicelli I was disappointed right away. It wasn't even grilled pork. It was super hard like it was fried and on top of that it was cold. I live only three minutes from this place, so if it was fresh it would've still been warm. The meat they gave me looks like one of the Chinese pork dishes and they just threw it in. Spending $20 was not worth it AT ALL. Never ordering from here again. read more

Friendly staff, great service, price and portion size were all positive but food was just not up to par I ordered the teriyaki chicken and fried rice and got a plate full of chewy chicken drenched in teriyaki sauce. The fried rice looked promising but was very bland and odd tasting. But maybe it was just me might give them a try again and order something different next time. read more

Very nice place. Neat and fast. You got a lot options to choose. Chinese, Vietnamese, fast box lunch dinner or regular full size dishes, for drink you got bubble tea as a bonus which you don't get it in every Asian restaurant. They also delivery and the price is reasonable. read more

This was the worst experience I have had... Extremely rude customer service, and adds extra stuff to the order without asking you, so ask for the total before agreeing to pay. They also messed up my order and refused to fix it. Apart from this, the food was good read more

Terrible Pho. Former chef Nelson Padilla no longer works here and it seems no one else in the kitchen has any idea how to make Vietnamese food. The broth was bland, the meats sparse and overcooked, the garnishes incorrect. Mint instead of Thai Basil? Also, the manager dismissive and rude. read more

Ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls and general tso's chicken. Chinese food was okay but the Vietnamese spring rolls were disappointing because it only consisted of lettuce and some shrimp. Definitely not a Vietnamese spring roll. Gave this place two stars because service was slow and food was okay. read more

Very disappointed. We were visiting from Chicago area which is overrun with bubble tea cafes so we know our bubble teas. We had a craving for some refreshing bubble tea after a hot day so we found this spot and decided to try it. Five orders of bubble teas took 25 minutes to make during a non-busy time. The tapioca in the tea were tiny and I had only twenty in my drink, which barely covered the bottom surface of the plastic cup. My drink was also half lukewarm and half chilled. It was really sad. We will not be returning here for the bubble tea. I suppose if you don't know better you'd think this was normal and ok. It's not. Go somewhere else for a properly prepared bubble tea drink. read more

I was forced to buy a large when I wanted a medium because they ran out of cups. When I simply asked if I could get a medium in a large cups, they angrily said no and walked away. So I order and wait. It took about 20 minutes for me to get the bubble tea I wanted. Keep in mind that it was not busy at all; probably 5-6 people max. After I get my bubble tea, it tasted awful. I got pina colada flavored and it tasted like a pina colada starburst. I keep drinking because I didn't want to waste it, but I found a few grains of rice in it. Overall, this was an awful experience and would not recommend this place to anybody. read more

Had dinner here for the first time and very much enjoyed it. Unlike others I thought the service was very quick, it took less than 10 minutes for both entrees to arrive though the place seemed busy. The orange beef was some of the best I have had and liked a bowl of soft noodles with pork & black bean as well. Majority of the customers seemed to be Asian SLU students so thought that was a good sign. My only complaint is that the main overhead menu was geared to American tastes and so unfortunately I overlooked a handwritten menu on the counter with more interesting dishes listed. Next time I will order off of that. read more

I work just down Lindell and eat here way too much! Any dish that has breaded chicken is hand dipped... Saw them in the kitchen. And the crab Rangoon and egg rolls are made in house as well. You can't say that about many places anymore! I think the review about raw beef in the Pho was a combination of a misunderstanding and a language barrier. The beef does come raw/rare in the pho... She probably didn't know how to explain it to him, or he didn't want to listen. Anyway... I eat here all the time and have never been disappointed, they will make custom dishes or make something more or less spicy for you. You can get American Chinese food or authentic and I think the only thing that comes pre-made are the fortune cookies... Which are never right anyway. Overall, great food! read more

I live in the neighborhood and go here on occasion. They have a great selection of teas and slush drinks. The customer service is not the best but hey I have definitely experienced much worse in St. Louis. They definitely cater towards the Asian customers but not a big deal I order and leave. On one particular visit as I patiently waited for the server to finish her extended conversation with customers a man behind the counter asked to take my order. I had never seen him before but kudos to being attentive to all customers. Add it to the soup and the noodles seem to envelope it all with an explosion of flavor as you slurp even to the last drop. And grab those last leaves or noodles with your chopsticks. The minimum weight that you have to buy is 0.9 lbs, but you really won't know how much your bowl weighs until you get up to the cashier and put it on the scale. My bowl was underweight my first time through, so I went back to grab more ingredients. If I had to guess the minimum cost for a 0.9 lb bowl, it's probably about $16, which is a pretty good price for a hot pot. My bowl weighed about 0.97 and it was way more than I could comfortably eat. The next decision you have to make after you have selected your ingredients is the base and spicy level. I went with #1 Oil splash spicy soup at medium spice level. Now, I enjoy spicy foods, but this was at the upper limit of enjoyability. Although tasty, I think the oil in the broth got to be too much and I will want to try a different base next time. After you pay for your food, you get a number which you take to a table of your choosing and wait for your bowl to come out (they cook it for you).
