This is the BEST restaurant that I've been to in STL so far!! First, the service was absolutely wonderful. Our server was super nice and knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to our table. The food was purely amazing: - The Sake Sashimi was absolute chef's kiss (rate: 10/10). The fresh sashimi in the ginger mint sauce left us speechless, the salsa gave a fresh and fruity burst of flavor, and even the fried chips on top had a ton of flavor! - The Isaan Hamachi (rate: 9.5/10) was also a must! I first tried the candied garlic on top, and it was truly sweet with only a hint of garlic. The yellowtail was also super fresh, and the coconut sauce brought out even more flavor from the yellowtail (and masked any fishy taste)! - The Massachusetts Scallops (rate: 9.5/10) was one of the best scallops I've ever had. Topped with crab and combined with the pea puree, everything complemented each other so well. There were only two scallops, but they were large and super filling. - The Shrimp Toasts had layers and layers of flavor (rate: 9/10)! The shrimp was inside of the toast, creating a super umami flavor, and then the light and fruity topping and sauce, along with the thin slice of cucumber, truly made this a party in my mouth. - The Chili Garlic Noodles were super nutty and so good (rate: 8/10)! The noodles were slightly spicier than expected, but the spice was a quick burst of flavor, so the spice didn't overpower the dish at all. The noodles were mixed with vegetables and topped with a crunch - definitely make sure to mix before eating to get the different textures and flavors in each bite! We also got cocktails (Pretty in Pink & Sands in the Sun), and both were really yummy. Last, we got a dessert - homemade ice cream by the Sous Chef that day: soy ice cream with red bean! Indo is an expensive meal, but it's absolutely worth it for a special occasion if you like seafood and fine dining. I took my boyfriend for his birthday, and we had a blast splitting a variety of small plates and having a few drinks. The sauces in their dishes are so delicious. Scrumptious even. I've been to iNDO several times. It feels like a restaurant you'd expect in NYC, LA or SF, sleek and polished, you get the vibe. It's not a "book a flight to St. Louis for this" destination spot. You should try something quintessentially STL instead. But if you live here, it's worth trying. The staff appear to have been here for awhile which adds to the sense that they're building something solid, not just trendy. Regarding food, it's Asian fusion, and for the menu we had, specifically its Japanese technique layered with Southeast Asian and Korean-leaning flavors. More concretely it was sashimi + nori + rice kind of style. I'm Korean so banchan + nori + rice is our staple and home cooked meals. For that reason, the price wasn't justified but it's tasty. Our orders: Hirame Sashimi: flounder, leche de tigre, roasted grapes, crispy rice noodles (18) - not a flounder fan, but this was good! First time at INDO for Valentine's weekend and we will absolutely be back! These were some of the best plates I've had in the past year!! We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was so helpful in explaining the menu and helping us pick a 5th dish to round out our experience. The dining area is dim and had great music. So perfect for a date night! We got a variety of plates, but the highlights for me were the sashimi dishes, especially the blue fin deluxe plate! Our server mentioned that they'll curate a "food journey" based on what we ordered and I definitely think that's true. Each dish followed the previous one well and had such fresh flavors. We returned and the service was still excellent, but unfortunately the food missed the mark this time. We ordered the salad served in little lettuce boats (can't remember the name), the garlic noodles, and the beef curry, and nearly every dish was overwhelmingly sweet. It made it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. For a $400 dinner, I honestly expected more consistency. I'm especially disappointed because this isn't the kind of place you expect to be hit or miss at that price point. Came here for a date night, and it had the perfect vibes for it. Made a rezzy for early evening; when we got there, it wasn't full anyways. Staff was very nice, and made excellent recommendations. We ended up order 5 dishes: potatoes, isaan hamachi, chili garlic noddles, japanese eggplant, and shrimp toast. All of them were delicious, but I'll start from the top down. Best dish: isaan hamachi/yellowtail. The fish was very good with a good/pleasant texture, very complex/dynamic flavors, the sweetness of the candied garlic and the richness of the coconut naam pla. Next is the japanese eggplant. Also very good texture with a really nice umami flavor and slight spice/crunch from the chili crisp. Shrump toast is also really good as well too. There was a good balance of flavors, richness of the mango sweet chili cut through by the cucumber salad. The potatoes were also phenomenal; I think it was a specialty item that's not always on the menu. It tasted like potatoes bravas, but more Asian. Finally, the chili garlic noodles were just okay. It paled in comparison to the rest of the dishes; it was a basic, straightforward noodle dish with soy and mushrooms, with a decent umami flavor. Overall, nice place. 4/5 stars. read more

Indo has become one of my favorite spots in STL (top 5) the food has been delicious every single time I've gone. The vibe is nice, calm, and intimate, but the space is on the smaller side, so reservations are highly recommended. Parking can also be a little tricky (especially with the construction). Here's what I've tried so far: Food (Dinner): Japanese Eggplant - My boyfriend's favorite. Sake Sashimi - This was really good but I prefer Isaan more Shrimp Toast - My personal favorite; the flavors were amazing. Issan Hamachi - This one surprised me, but I ended up loving it. Drinks: In the Mood for Love Lychee Martini (requested) I loved it so much the first time that I came back and tried the Palm Sugar Ribs it sweet, savory, and super yummy. Then I came again for happy hour and tried: Prawn Chip & Dip - Great starter and highly recommended; the dip was delicious. Trash Gyoza - Still yummy, but I prefer the dinner-menu gyoza. Salmon Avocado Bowl - I know Indo is known for sharing plates, but this is something I'd happily eat all by myself. Chef's Choice Chirashi - All the toppings and flavors came together nicely, but I still prefer the salmon avocado bowl. The best restaurant in St. Louis. Food: always spectacular here. They have a slightly different menu each time I come in. But everything we've tried has been 100% delicious, and I could drink a jar of some of the sauces they make. They have mastered how to make sour a critical components of each dish. Service: some of the best service I've ever experienced at any restaurant. The servers always make us feel like a priority and go out of their way to give us special options for special occasions. We ordered every vegetarian dish on the menu, and they were all super easy to share. They're a bit deceitful about their portion sizes. We got a "to share" "small dish" that was labeled as "hokkaido scallopS" (plural) -- the waitress said it was good for two people. It was one scallop. 1.5 tablespoons for 24 dollars. And it tasted good, but not 24 dollars good. More like 11 dollars good. They're a bit pretentious. The vibe is "welcome to NYC." As someone from NYC, this place would not last a week in NYC. I feel a bit rude about using a cloth napkin to wipe my nose, I asked for a paper one. They told me to get tissues from the bathroom. Even NYC restaurants have paper napkins to offer you. We got 3 dishes for $134 dollars, and it's objectively not enough food to feed 1 person. New years eve at indo was something out of a dream. I had no idea I was getting myself into a 10 course prix fixe menu, but it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I'll start with the service. Amanda was my server and she was awesome. Attentive, polite, and overall it was an absolute pleasure to be served by her. Continuously checking in to see if she could help improve the meal. The interior is beautiful. Elevated, elegant, regal. The space is calming, sleek, and perfect for any occasion. You enter to see a small corner bar with about 7 seats. Then there is a small corridor back to the main dining area. As aforementioned, it was 10 courses. I won't bore you with analyses of every course so I will hit the highlights. To preface, I love seafood, but uncooked seafood is not my preferred preparation. That being said, every cold fish dish was superb. The tuna was so rich yet delicate. The sauces, garnishes, and accompaniments all balanced and complemented the flavors beautifully. Things like a coconut curry, candied garlic, fried wonton strips all elevated the dishes. The old fashioned was great as was the clarified daiquiri. It was coconut and velvety. It went down so smooth. The balance was wonderful. There were 2 favorites by far for me: the wagyu and the king crab. The wagyu--as everybody always says--melted as it touched your tongue. The tiger sauce gave a subtle kick with a perfect sweetness to counteract the richness. The king crab was warm and doused in butter. What more could a human need? Indo, you absolutely out did yourself. The staff were amazing, the meal amazing, the ambience amazing. I had a follow-up visit with Indo and this time I took a friend with me. The service, quality of the food continued to live up the first impression it left me with. I had again ordered the shrimp toast and sake yaki. We shared the shrimp toast and they were amazed at the taste and flavors as it was not something they ever had before. The saki yaki was something I ordered again -- the salmon was lovely resting in a flavorful curry sauce on the bottom that drifts across all spectrum of flavors from light and sweet to just enough heat. Among the other bites we ordered and shared was the trash gyoza which we both agreed was so great that we had ordered another round. The Chirashi salmon and yellow tail was a delight, along with the yellow fin temaki, and hamachi temaki and avocado, each on their own was superb! The Isaan Hamachi with the yellowtail and candied garlic rested in a coconut naam which was absolutely magical that I ended up drinking it by the spoonful! This was our party of four's first visit to Indo. They were pretty busy, but a server did come around within a reasonable amount of time to take a drink order. I'm not much of a cocktail or wine person, but it did appear as though they had quite a list of selections in this department. A couple of the people at our table did get fancy cocktails, and they were very pleased with them. We sat towards the back of the restaurant, which was very nice. I noticed an outdoor patio area that was not open, but looked like it would be a lot of fun when the weather accommodates. This is not your West County "sushi "bar. You're not going to find 400 different rolls on the menu here. What they seem to have is some pretty sophisticated Japanese, mainly seafood, options. We did get some sashimi, which was excellent. We ordered the, what I think was Hamachi jaw. This was essentially the jaw of a fish with the most tender meat possible. You have to be willing to get your fingers into it a bit in order to extract the meat, but it was well worth it. There's a beef dish called the tiger something or other! While I cannot remember the name of this dish, I can remember that it was probably one of the best things we ordered. It was great. We got a wide variety of items and spent a lot of money. There were some things that I liked more than others, but nothing was bad. I think the salted, fried tofu was actually either number one or number two in terms of my favorites. One thing that did catch a soft guard was the added 20% gratuity. There were only four of us so it seemed odd. None of us paid tremendous attention to the menu and I'm not sure if there was anything on the menu that stated that a 20% gratuity would be added. The service was great and team oriented. All of the people that came to our table were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I didn't care too much about the added tip because I was going to add 20% anyway, but some people might be put off by this. We had four people each of whom had one drink. We ordered several plates and the bill was just under $400 with tip. My suggestion would be to go to Indo and have a couple of plates and a drink. Anything else gets pretty pricey pretty quickly. read more

Finally made it to Indo! There is only street parking but were walked over from where we were before, so we weren't impacted by searching for street parking. We were able to be seated right away and right by the bar. I started with the "Oh My Cha Cha Cha" (Omija berry infused soju, Suntory Toki, spiced Asian pear, Campari and lemon). It was a refreshing and fruity cocktail. I shared some gyoza (equipped with the lacy edges) with my friends but ordered Chili Garlic Noodles for my entree. My favorite part of it was how entrenched the noodles were with black garlic soy. This is a perfect spot for a date night with the intimate lighting and closeness in seating but also a very good spot for gathering friends and sharing some neat dishes. read more

This was my second time here, and between visits I went to their sister restaurant SADO and I can't recommend them both enough. I've been lucky to travel all over the country and eat at some incredible establishments but these two..... they're in my top 5. Top 4 honestly. I am obsessed. The Laarb I almost skipped on because I'm not a fan of lamb, I'm so glad I tried it, it ended up being my favorite bite of the night. Which is hard to compete with the isaan hamachi its out of this world. The laarb is award worthy, the way the flavor literally evolves in your mouth is insane. It starts with the sweet notes, then moves into all the herbs and what I'm assuming is shallot, then you're left with the fat flavor and nuttiness from the candied peanuts. I will be attempting to recreate this lol. Do not go to indo without trying the isaan hamachi and the laarb ‍ Kudos to the staff who is always so knowledgeable and explains each dish as they arrive and asks for dietary restrictions at the start. I've been here a handful of times and each time, I've tried to order different things. I love all the different flavors and the dishes are just so creative. There is just nothing else like it (other than Sado- sister restaurant). My go-to's usually the shrimp toast, gyoza, the chili garlic noodles and the isaan hamachi. They used to have an outdoor patio that had heaters but now they have this cool glass greenhouse room that is appropriately temperature controlled. The restaurant itself is a fairly small and intimate space, especially if you are sat towards the back of the a restaurant. Parking is straight forward with nearby street parking and lots. I'm one that appreciates a concise menu, and iNDO thrives in that department. We were told that all selections were mostly small plates meant to be shared. Recommendation for about 6 plates for our party of two. That seemed like quite a bit, especially for the price, but we were in the food to try new things and went with the following five plus a couple dessert options. Laarb, Kanpachi Sashimi, Palm Sugar Ribs, Massachusetts Scallops, Crying Tiger A5 Wagyu The helpful waiter stated that they would handle the timing of the courses, which turned out decent, but had an awkward long gap between a couple plates. The food itself had some hits and misses. The Wagyu can just go in its own category as it was perfection. But I personally would order 5 plates of the Palm Sugar Ribs because it was that good (and one of the cheapest items on the menu). The Kanpachi and Scallops were both decent, but did not stand out in my eyes. The Laarb just seemed to be there as we picked at it. I had some absolutely magical bites of food here. It's a tapas style Asian-Fusion place, with an up-scale atmosphere and great service. As a pro-tip, come witha. hungry group, order 2-3 plates per person, and skip out on dessert. The wine selection is good, and we had a white that paired quite nicely with most of the dishes. Here were our standouts: Crispy Tiger A5 Wagyu: 100/10 - One of the best bites I've had in a long time. It's REALLY expensive for the portion size, sure, but I think it's worth it. The meat is tender, umami, rich, chewy, and perfectly cooked. It's topped with a perfectly paired sauce and the crispy onions on top add a satisfying crunch. A must get if you can. Toro Tartare: 9/10 - The toro meat was fresh and rich, and it came with little crispies which added a perfect texture contrast. Wrapped up in a sheet of nori, this was wonderful. Sake Yaki: 10/10 - The Salmon was perfectly cooked, the skin was crispy, and the curry sauce was packed with a PUNCH of flavor. A beautiful both visually and flavor-wise. Gyoza: 8.5/10 - The gyoza themselves were as expected but I've never had fried gyozas that were so perfectly balanced with crispy richness and delicious flavor. If you like gyoza, go for these. We also had several sashimi dishes, all of which were wonderful. The fish is always top quality and INDO never fails to make fun flavor pairing that excite your taste buds. Here are the dishes you probably want to avoid: Shrimp Toast: 5/10 - Tasted like a crab cake but with shrimp. The texture was tough and the flavor was heavily oily. Not my favorite. Black Sesame and Banana Roll: 6/10 - I want to give this brownie points because of the creativity, but something about the banana bread nature of the dish was off putting. The black sesame cream on the inside, however, was really nutty and delicious. I'm also not sure what the point o the pomegranate seeds were, as they felt sort of random and unnecessary. Coconut Rice Pudding: 5/10 - A bland, very boring dessert. It was slightly coconutty, but nothing special, and the crispy layer on top was too heavy for my liking. Nice ambiance in a neighborhood outside of St Louis downtown. Went there with some friends and had a lot of different dishes. All of their sashimi is served with unique flavors. Favorite was the salmon which was served with a spicy kick. Many unique dishes that were served perfectly. The had hamachi kama as well, which they seasoned really well. I believe unless it's a Michelin star, that should not be a thing. It feels like the waiter asked us to order more so his tip could be atomically high as well. I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the shrimp toast was. The texture was great and provided a satisfying crunch. Before coming here, we heard great things about the hand rolls and decided to try the Benitoro, Spicy Tuna, and King Crab. Each roll highlighted the flavor of each fish. Some of the dishes they offer here are actually unreal. Others were either not for me or too pricey for what you get. Still, the interior is beautiful and I would definitely want to come back. My hubby and I came through St Louis for a little getaway and had reservations for Indo on a Wed evening. We opted to sit at the bar and Logan took care of us for the night and we had a fantastic time. We ordered the big Omakase which had an assortment of five hand rolls of Chef's choice, they were not cone shaped, rather the nori acted as 'taco' shells. I must say, they were very tasty and a fun take on hand rolls. The Toro was definitely the best. Then we had the King Salmon, Eggplant dish, Scallops with Ikura and a miso ice cream dessert. I'm not a huge fan of eggplant but this dish was surprisingly good. The King Salmon was very rich and fatty, paired well with the cocktails, and the miso ice cream was a little on the sweet side but the texture and combo of sweet and salty was on point. Logan is an awesome bartender and host. He definitely showed us a good time and showcased the Midwest hospitality beautifully. We were very glad we sat at the bar to get the full experience. I haven't been here in a while, but recently revisited with couple of friends for a nice dinner out. It's always a treat coming to Indo and I was very happy to see everything on the menu is still spectacular. Shrimp toast is still amazing and their cocktails are always spot on. I noticed since last time I've been here, few things changed but I'm not complaining. always nice to see restaurants making changes to their menu for the better, that shows they are working hard!
