I don't need fancy as long as the food is delicious. This is what Meyou has to offer. Flavorful, made-to-order Thai food and a friendly service to boot. They had 2 wait staff working when we went and both greeted us immediately and seated us inside. Their air conditioning was broken and awaiting repair and they had signs throughout explaining that. It was still cooler inside than out so we sat inside. I was curious what a butterfly lemonade was so I ordered one. It was good and quite refreshing with traditional lemonade at the bottom topped with a vibrant deep purple concoction on top. After I educated myself, I found that the deep purple concoction is steeped tea made from butterfly pea flowers. We started with some egg rolls - fried with ground pork and vegetables and served with sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was great! I normally pass as most of them have a cloyingly sweet flavor that I don't like but theirs had a really good balance of flavors amd not too sweet. The egg rolls were flavorful enough to stand on their own though and yes, delivered piping hot to the table. I had the drunken noodles with beef at medium spicy level. At first bite, I was immediately able to taste the spicy level I chose. A great sign. Then I sniffed and started sweating. Another great sign of good spice level. My husband ordered the yellow curry with tofu and medium spice level as well. At first he said it could be hotter but then midway through he decided it was more of a build up and thought the level was actually perfect. Serving size was great. You can definitely get another meal out of an order! We took the rest of our food home. I cannot wait to eat my leftovers today. What a great spot for a delicious, quick dinner! read more

Does anyone else do second lunch? If I accidentally check in at the wrong location I have to order from both places! Such was the case with Meyou, I headed over there after eating at another location. They had a sign on the door that the air was out but they were still serving, that is such a bummer for them, it was pretty hot. Inside it was super warm, there were a couple tables eating in. The server at the cash register was super great! He had to be miserable as the heat from the kitchen was intense, but he was super pleasant and helpful. I placed a to-go order for Fried Pot Stickers and Chicken Drunken Noodle. I waited for a bit, and my food was ready and I was on my way. Apparently, some Chinese restaurants have a policy where they give you free egg rolls if you're a party of six. I get that this is a Thai restaurant, not Chinese (though it's more Chinese than I am), but Meyou might consider such a policy. I would have benefited from it yesterday. I visited on a Wednesday evening with members of a running group. There were umpteen of us. If we'd been given a single egg roll appetizer, we would have been forced to cut it in tiny pieces and share. I would have been willing to do that, because I'm a confirmed, avowed savage. My reputation precedes me. Arguably, they should give you one free appetizer for every six members of your party. But I digress. Now, where was I? Ah yes, Meyou. I'd describe this place as a somewhat Americanized version of Thai food, based on what little I know from having recently visited Bangkok and eaten in roughly 40 or 50 restaurants, food stalls and what have you over the course of a few days, i.e. not a whole lot. You can get pad thai and various other soups, noodles and curries, along with fried rice, egg rolls, crab rangoon and chicken wings. It's got a little something for everyone. Do they charge you $0.25 for extra soy sauce? Can you call up and try to harangue them into giving you a free order of crab rangoon by claiming that they shorted you the last time you were there, knowing good and well they can count better than you? I'm not sure. I might try that on my next visit and report back. This time, I went with something called Pad See Ew, which wasn't nearly as gross as its name suggests. In fact, it was good. Its description on the menu, with broccoli, eggs and soy sauce, called to mind various things I might order from a Chinese takeout--which is what I tend to look for in a menu item. As a noodle dish, I figured the overall flavor profile might not be different from a lo mein lunch special I used to get decades ago, that I still fondly reminisce about on a weekly basis. I wasn't that far off from the mark. They let you choose the spice level, ranging from mild to hot. I usually get hot in most places, but I'm hesitant to do that at Asian restaurants, because they might have access to peppers that are technically considered research chemicals, like Temu Ozempic, and therefore not subject to FDA approval. There were a few girls there, and I didn't want to run the risk of my throat starting to close up. I'd have to find a new run group. Medium turned out to be just right for me, but maybe too spicy if you're expecting something along the lines of a buffalo wing. Even the mild, apparently, has a bit of a kick to it. The noodles were nice and slippery and cooked a touch beyond al dente, right in that Goldilocks zone between undercooked and mush. The heat, and the complexity provided by whatever they use to season this, helped offset the underlying sweetness. You get your choice of meat. No Diddy. I went with pork, natch, with apologies to the Honorable Minister. The amount they give you is surprisingly generous, except that this dish will run you. I'm talking modern-day Chipotle prices. Maybe a dollar or two more. Yikes! But I'd argue that the quality justifies it. If I lived nearby, and I had the means, I'd stop by on occasion. read more

A friend suggested this place for dinner and it was a good choice! She's only ever had takeaway and we dined in this time and sat at the patio. Service was quick, the food came out fast! Portions are decent for the price (we even had enough to bring home). I ordered the kra pao and she had the green curry. Kra pao - This was not bad although I wish it had more of the basil flavour. My favorite place for thai food and you have to dine in when you try it! I got it to-go once and I felt like the quality wasn't great (keep in mind that I'm about a 25 minute drive away, so your choice). I love dining in, the food comes out hot and fresh. It takes a bit (maybe 15-20 minutes) for the food to come out. But, I always enjoy the company when dining in. Their quality of food is great, and my favorite thing to order is the pad see ew with beef. The pad thai is a second best with chicken. My confirmation email shared that my order would be ready in about approximately 20 minutes, and it was ready to go in 20 minutes on the dot! Their system for keeping track of orders seemed very organized and efficient. Employees were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself was packed. Nearly every table was full! Takeout came in durable plastic containers. I ordered the Pad See Eew with no egg, and my partner had the Crispy Chicken with medium spice level. We both loved our meals, and I thought the pricing was incredibly reasonable for the quality! We also really enjoyed their Crab Rangoon. As much as I hate to say this, I feel it is needed. I wrote THE very first review for Meyou when they first opened. I included pictures of the menu. I would have given a 10 star rating then. Having not been back for 8 months as we moved out of town, we were excited to eat here as one of our favorites in STL. We learned that new owners have taken it over after ordering. I'm not sure why they chose to change excellent recipes, but alas, they had. We ordered the Pad Thai with veggies and the Penang with tofu. The Pad Thai was not as rich tasting, but still good. Unfortunately, we had to send back the Penang as it was like soup. There was some flavor, but nothing as good as it was earlier in 2024. Previously, the Penang would come out with exquisite flavors, but the recipe was changed. This dish was no longer over the top, but now just a run of the mill average Thai dish. The server was awesome and understood the issue we had explained. So no issues in having it deleted from our check. We had very high expectations and maybe that was our mistake, and not the restaurants fault as this is now how the new owners do it. If we ever go back, we will ask the question about if the dish is soupy or thick. Oh well, this is a really hard business to maintain. I truly wish the new owners the best of luck!! read more

I randomly wanted to eat Thai this Sunday. The place that I wanted to go to was close so I found this place while searching Thai places to eat. Parking here is kind of harder to find since it is mostly street parking. This place has both inside and patio seatings. We opted for inside seating. My boyfriend got the Drunken noodle, while I got the kao soi entree. I also got the Cha Ma-now drink. This is Thai tea with lime instead of milk. It does taste unique but I would definitely just order the regular thai tea at my next visit since I am more familiar with that taste. The spice levels have several options. I picked mild for the Kao soi and my boyfriend picked medium for his entree. If you don't want spicy, the mild was prefect for me on this particular day. The portion size is great. I've tried a couple of different restaurants in STL but I keep finding myself coming back to Meyou. There's something about the Pad Thai (call me basic) and Drunken Noodles that reminds me of sitting in the busy streets of Bangkok. I usually always get take out although I've dined in a couple of times and have always received the best service. The menu is straightforward and has a variety of the staples - from curries, noodles, rice dishes and more. You're allowed to pick from a variety of spice levels which is nice! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MEYOU! It's a very small restaurant right next to Chiang Mai in Webster Groves (street parking only) and a more casual spot but it actually is incredible. I love love love their chicken larb (salad) and Tom kha (coconut curry soup). This is the best Tom kha I've ever had. Would recommend getting mild spice level for full flavor. Still quite spicy but so darn good. We also tried their khao soi as well which was solid. Perfectly crispy on the outside, piping hot, fluffy tofu on the inside. For my main, I ordered the green curry with veggies (hot). Spice level was perfect for me. The chili kick compliments the fresh, herby flavors. The veggies were plentiful. Everyone who tended to us was so warm. You really get the best family vibes here. Went for late lunch around 2 pm on a Monday. Few other customers, most sitting outside on the patio, which we also chose to do. Thai lady gave us our menus & took orders; Indian man was serving & clearing another table. Ordered appetizer Shrimp rolls, Khao Soi w/ chicken, Pad See Ew w/ chicken, and Stir fry eggplant w/ pork. Shrimp rolls were good but nothing to rave about. Wish they had Curry puffs (covered up on menu). Entrees all came in tall bowls, so the sauces of the Pad See Ew and Stir fry pooled at the bottom, vs. at other restaurants, those are served on plates so sauce is spread out. All had a good quantity of the ordered proteins. Pad See Ew was on the sweeter end but still good. Eggplant was cooked to the right softness. We ordered mild spice level and got just a touch of spice. Menu is small, with most popular Thai dishes -- I'm surprised the northern Thai dish 'Khao Soi' is on their menu when the northern Thai restaurant ChiangMai is right next door. Meyou is hands down the best Thai food in the city. It's a cute little space that's got somewhat limited indoor seating, but there's also outdoor seating. The staff is so efficient and sweet, and the prices are fantastic. There was no wait for Saturday lunch around 1 PM. I tried the vegetarian eggrolls, drunken noodles with tofu, and panang curry with tofu. The vegetarian eggrolls were the perfect appetizer with fantastic crisp and mild umami inside. The drunken noodles were delicious, and I have to specifically note that the onions in this dish were the most perfectly selected and cooked onions I've ever had in my entire life. The sweetness and texture (not sauteed to the point of mush, just the right amount of light crunch but all spiciness cooked out) was phenomenal. The panang curry was also well done. I ordered everything in Hot, which was genuinely very hot (I love a place that doesn't disappoint on spice). I think the bill came out to less than $40, which is stellar pricing for this good of a meal in this city. I ordered takeout from Meyou for the first time today. The food was done exactly on time and was still warm when I got home, which I love! I was taken care of right away on arrival. The restaurant is pretty small so I'm glad we did takeout. Parking is available behind the building. We got potstickers, pad see eew (with chicken) and stir fry basil (with pork). Based on reading reviews, I decided to get medium for the stir fry and mild for the pad see eew. I'm not sure if our order was misread but I don't think we actually got medium spice for the stir fry, as there was no heat level at all. That was the only disappointment though, since I do like spicy! Not a big deal though, everything was SO delicious! Would highly recommend anything! Prices were great too. The portions were okay size - not as big as other Thai places from what I've had, but I wasn't mad since prices were so reasonable compared to other places! My partner and I love Thai, and we realized we'd never tried Meyou so it went on our list. We decided to get takeout on a chilly Sunday night for our first meal from there. The guy on the phone was polite and quoted a 20 minute wait time. When we arrived to pick it up, it was packaged and ready, and VERY hot to the touch. A+! When we got home, both of us were pleased that our meals looked delicious. My partner got basil stir-fry, his go-to dish. I got drunken noodles with chicken. He wasn't sure at first if he was happy about the ground beef instead of strips of meat, but he said it was delicious. My drunken noodles were SO good. There was a ton of chicken, all incredibly flavorful. The veggies, including green peppers (which I don't normally love), were all infused with the super tasty sauce. I had to force myself to stop eating once I was full because it was so good but I didn't have my room left. My partner had a hard time finishing his, too, solely because there was so much. Both of us really wanted to keep eating. The inside of the restaurant was super tiny, but we plan on going back to dine on their lovely patio once the weather is nice again.
