HORRIBLE service and one of the worst food experiences I've ever had. I called in to order beef chow mein, and the woman on the phone first told me they only had lo mein. When I was about to order something else, she suddenly said they did have chow mein. What I received was NOT chow mein at all. When I called back to complain, they argued with me and said chow mein doesn't come with noodles, which made no sense based on what I ordered. To make matters worse, there was a fried bug in the fries. Completely disgusting and unacceptable. The texture of the food was awful, it was soggy and felt like eating gravy/slop. If like me, this was your favorite carry out in Alexandria because you got your moneys worth in food and the wings were a good size, then you'll want to rethink that sentiment. 3 months ago, I loved this place. Today however, I ordered my typical order and it was nearly half the size that it used to be, the wings were the tiniest things I'd ever seen from them, maybe a handful of fries, the egg rolls were thin and overall it just wasn't worth it even if the flavor is still there. Simple yet good Chinese food. A lot of rice served thou without balancing it with the amount of meat. The appearance of the place is not all that for the location. I was even skeptical of walking in to pick up my carry out food. I wasn't impressed with the cashier lady that rushed me to pay without allowing me to verify what I was paying for (amount was higher then what I ordered). I am new to the DMV area and on my Mumbo sauce tour and decided to kick it off here. I was in the area and had this place bookmarked and it did not disappoint. Ingot the half steak and cheese and 5 piece wing with rice. Steak and cheese was amazing and I wish I had gotten a whole. Wings were good as well, fried rice not much. I would order the wings next time but getfries instead. They put the mumbo sauce on the side and it is excellent. Customer service wasn't bad as I've read in previous comments. Very unassuming place but the food was good and prepared quickly. I just got a few of the appetizers crab Rangoon, steak and cheese egg roll, and shrimp roll. The Crab Rangoon was crispy on the outside with a nice creamy filling. It also came with that sweet and sour dipping sauce. Got the steak and cheese egg roll just to try it and it was really good! Pretty good standard Chinese food. Insanely fast delivery! We ordered our food and it was delivery to our home room door (literally the door) in no time at all. We actually underestimated the portion sizes based on the price (very reasonable pricing) and the portions turned out to be huge; way more than we thought. The star of the meal were the chicken wings with the mumbo sauce!! AMAZING, this was only my second experience with the all mighty mumbo sauce, but this stuff is life changing. Even the building looks like you stepped down on old school Benning Rd-DC with bars on the establishments. They don't beat Eddies for overstuffed steak and cheese but their steak and cheese hits the spot on a chilly day. SERVICE: The staff is nicest in person... over the phone I mean come on its business as usual for a carryout they are not talkers they are doers and you need to be ready before you call and better be quick...don't take it personally lol. WRAP UP: I will say I've been working in oldtown for 8 yrs and never watched them cook my food until today...they could stand to put on gloves but like I said I don't walk in there expecting much..especially if I don't order on the phone. I live pretty far away (almost in Maryland) but I get my haircut in Alexandria so I never miss a trip to Goody's.The place is dumpy inside but since it's take out; who cares? The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. I like to order from the diet menu where everything is steamed. They provide the sauces separately if you want to put them on, yourself. The egg foo young (not on the diet menu) s excellent. So are the shrimp dishes. They use the larger size shrimp which to me, attests to the quality. The first time I called they hung up on me I called back place my order gave the lady my credit card number and she told me my order would be 40 minutes then she called me back after I have proof from my online credit card that the money was taken out for the food she told me that my card was declined so she tried to charge me twice for the same meal then I called back again after she hung up on me and was told that my order did go through my order was paid for and it would be 40 minutes I ordered my food at about 12:15 it is now 1:53 p.m. and I still don't have my food and every time I call either someone hangs up on me again or they tell me they're busy my food is on the way even though I've been waiting over an hour read more

Okay guys, this was my first time here. First of all, this place is a hole in the wall, carry out joint. You can't exactly sit there and eat. Everyone I talked to however was extremely nice, not like at other carry out places where they can be very cold and short with one. I ordered the fried seafood platter which comes with a crab cake, two scallops, one fish, two shrimp and two crab sticks. I asked for it with a side of rice and some broccoli as well. I also got a drink out of the display fridge, totaling $17. I was very specific that I just wanted a little rice and some broccoli on top of it with my platter. She seemed to understand at the time. Although the price was a few dollars more than expected I pawned it off on the fact that I was getting real seafood. BOY WAS I WRONG. When I picked up my order, I drove home excited to eat it. I found one carry out foam box and two smaller carry out boxes. I opened the small boxes first. The smallest contained rice, the medium one contained broccoli when I opened the foam box it was FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH RICE with the seafood crammed into one side. SO I figure okay they charged me for two dinners, misunderstanding, whatever. I tried the fish, it was great, the scallops were juicy and also great and they gave you both a container of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce as well as packets of soy and duck sauce. The part that actually made me livid was one, they forgot my shrimp and two, the crab cake was GROSS. It's like someone vomited and they attempted to fry it but it was soggy and salty. Lastly, the crab sticks. It's not real crab, it's the fake kind that comes in a long roll that is labeled "imitation crab" at grocery stores and well, I'm allergic as all hell. It was the last thing I ate and my throat started to close up within 3 mins of eating them . Thank goodness for epi-pens. I had to go to the hospital to get treated but I was pissed. STOP LABELING YOUR SEAFOOD AS SEAFOOD IF ITS NOT REAL SEAFOOD, I was lucky but you could really kill someone. Honestly , this is my second time ordering from this place and I can honestly say the sweet and sour chicken is the only thing I like because you can't mess that up but for the delivery service is terrible. Their delivery driver has harassed me to tip him. I put instructions to drop the food off at the receptionist desk because of the environment I work in. so the delivery driver calls me says he is here and I said okay thank you . But then he calls back again twice asking if I was going to come down to give him a tip but I gave you specific instructions to drop it off .why are you constantly calling me asking am I going to give you a tip. This is my go to spot in Old Town when I'm craving a cheap filling meal. $5 lunch special is enough food to put you to sleep or to cure a sunday morning hangover. They're chicken wings with fried rice and mambo sauce is awesome! Everything else I tried is good. It's one of the very few true Cheap Eats places in Old Town. A place where you can grab and go for some good food and not resort to boring Subway. I'd only knock down 1 star because of the appearance. This block is one of the few weird remnants of the time when Old Town was ghetto. Goodys has bars on the windows and a few questionable individuals always hanging outside. I've walked by the place many times in the 9 months I have been working in Old Town. I never bothered to wander inside because "dive" would be an upgrade. It looks nothing like a restaurant from the outside and the windows are decorated with heavy bars. That being said, when the office wanted to order delivery I recommended it based on Yelp. More than met the bar for Chinese delivery. Food was tasty and affordable, with all portions large enough to require taking home leftovers.
