A short and sweet review from me (for once!). This is all about the MILKSHAKE. Got a last minute call from a friend with out-of-town guests down at Centennial Park right outside my office. Met them and needed refreshment drinks. Oh, hello Googie Burger. Didn't eat here, but ordered a vanilla and chocolate milkshake. $5 each (pretty affordable, right?) - includes taxes. I expected them to come out like a fast food one would, simplistic in a cardboard cup. But they came out atopped with whipped cream and syrup to boot. And are DELICIOUS. Googie Burger was a welcome respite from a day of sightseeing. We'd been at the GA Aquarium starving and walked across Centennial Park to find Googie Burger. Service was OK, the girl taking our order could have been nicer but the folks at the food counter were friendly enough. They have this music blaring in your ear right where you order, it's pretty annoying. My biggest complaint is that there is no air-conditioned seating. They have covered seating and fans with misters but the fans weren't even turned on. Nothing like eating your hot burger and sweating, lol! Still, the location is great- after lunch we let me son run through the fountain. I wish I could have joined him! You order at the counter then go around the building to wait for your number to be called. I got a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Both were really good- the burger seasoned well and nice and juicy. The onion rings were good too. Based on the reviews I ordered a strawberry milkshake which was delicious. It came topped with whipped cream and a strawberry sauce. My son loved his meal being served on a Frisbee. He got a hot dog, fries and milk and spent the next hour playing with the Frisbee in the fountain. They sell beer too, and if I wasn't pregnant I would definitely have partaken! read more

Barely average burger, slightly above average fries, grumpy employees and a 40 min wait. I ordered the classic, the hamburger patty was tough and overcooked and the sauce ratio was comical... 1/2 tsp per burger? Ok.... The garlic ranch fries were good. Pretty potent, so maybe I'm supposed to put them on my burger in place of the sauce so that it tastes like something? The real problem was that I waited 20 min to order, the employees were grumpy, and waited another 20 min for food that was well below the standard of say 5 guys or even In N Out, not to mention any non-chain burger joint. Ever since I worked at my job, I have yet to actually visit this place. Which is actually less than a block from my building, American Cancer society building. So since we hired on new techs to help us leads out a bit, I mention Googie Burger as an option if they ever felt like a burger but didn't want o get deliver. Well...we waited quite a bit. One tech even called in everyday since January to see if they were open since they were really lacking on updating their twitter and webpage. I'm not sure if you can call it luck, but they finally were operating again when one of the techs decided to stop by and pick up his food. I believe this was on the 26th or 27th of March. I was really hoping to try the burger they had won the 2012 Battle of the Burger contest. But, alas, that was not meant to be. Food: So now to the nitty gritty. I placed a to go order which consisted of the Classic Burger and a side of fries. I was tempted to order a alcohol milkshake, but I rather not tempt to be called up to HR for a milkshake. Maybe 5, but ones just not worth it. From what my co-workers stated, there was an event at the park hence their operating hours were extended to 8pm that night, yet they weren't the slightest busy when our orders were done. One tech, noticed that after cooking the fries and hanging them to let some oil drain, they put the whole order to cook again! So you can see from my pic, half of my order of fries are actually well done. I actually couldn't finish the over cooked ones, they were to dry. The other half that were cooked properly, were just so-so. Nothing spectacular. Now, the part you actually wanted to hear about. The burger was pretty much, meh. I seriously, not lying to you in any way, had much better from other places. This coming from a guy who actually started his own "best burger quest" in 2011. The burger was cooked on well done. Had an average amount of seasoning. Really it tasted like the burgers I could cook up on a random weekend if I wanted to grill. This was a great stop after getting in the last day of the skating rink. For the grace of God I didn't fall so my boyfriend treated me to a nice Peach milkshake as we enjoyed the great Sunday Afternoon. Had the great idea of getting beer and a burger here during a festival event since I knew they would take credit cards. We stopped here on a road trip and I was blown away. I ordered the Cajun chicken burger with Gouda and fried jalepenos. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. My boyfriend was laughing that I kept bringing it up hours later raving about how good it was. To set the record straight, they do currently serve burgers and sandwiches despite what some past reviews might have noted. Is it the best burger in Atlanta? No. Is it a solid burger/fries/shake option in the park? Definitely. If you want a gourmet burger look elsewhere, but if you want a basic burger with seasoned meat and a buttery toasted bun this place fits the bill. The fries seem hand cut and, in my opinion, are comparable to Five Guys. The location is on the edge of Centennial Park so it's a great option on a lovely day (and, given no inside seating, a bad option on a stormy day). Local tip: they serve the good old school fountain Cokes that go great with burgers and fries. read more

Just have to update with a shoutout for their veggie burger. If a veggie burger could be juicy, this one would be. It was a black bean patty with loads of other veggies like corn and was really packed with flavor. It comes with melted pepper jack cheese and I was perfectly happy eating it plain, no bun. That's an impressive feat, my friends. I do wish they had some slightly healthier options (grilled sandwich? another kind of side apart from fries?) but I do enjoy this place and am happy to have it in Atlanta. Whilst spending all day Downtown on a Saturday and realizing that our first lunch option was closed until dinner service, Googie Burger was a surefire win. Right across the street at Centennial Park and easy for a quick walk n' grab kind of lunch. A few of our constituents make the trek for our lunch and it was a cinch. The fare? Pretty awesome, actually. The veggie burger, which is a huge portobello on a bun and grilled rather well. The South of Buffalo and Hot-Lanta topping choices were definitely the best-sounding and best-tasting as well. The buffalo flavor was nice and cut well with a bit of ranch. I really dig the sriracha on the Hot-Lanta as well. Nice to have a bit of heat on a veg burger. One thing I loved, and wasn't expecting at all, were the onion rings. They were awesome. I have to be honest...my expectations for Googie Burger were pretty low. After all, it's smack dab in the middle of one of the most touristy areas in Atlanta, and doesn't exactly offer a gourmet set of options. However, my expectations were met with a pretty delightful and wholly delicious reality. We were hosting a big event just down the street, when our lunch plans fell through and we had to feed quite a few people in a short amount of time. Enter the Yelp App's "Nearby" feature and Googie Burger popped up. We checked out the menu online, gathered everyone's reviews and were off. A short walk into Centennial, and there was Googie Burger, with a line about 15 people deep. While the organization of the ordering/paying process could have been more streamlined, my 4 stars are all about the food. Once we ordered and walked around to the pickup window, it was a short wait for our burgers and sides. The ranch fries were really nice, and the onion rings were memorable. My order was the veggie burger (portobello cap) Hot-Lanta style. I ate every ounce of it. Any time a burger comes with french fries ON it, I'm a fan. The sriracha ranch sauce and cherry peppers added to the complex flavor and completed an all-around great burger. I went to Googie Burger after seeing the reviews on Yelp. I took my kids and my husband after spending some time at the children's museum. I found it was not worth the money. While the frisbee plates for the kids are a neat idea, the whole experience seemed way over priced. They don't have good service and our burgers were run of the mill but not the 40+ dollars that we spent for the food. The milkshakes we got were kind of watery and the wait was not worth it either. Located just next to the Centennial Olympic Park fountains, Googie is the token hamburger stand that gets most of their business from tourists and park goers. All of their seating is outside, and it's a counter order / take a number kind of place. Their menu is a little funkier than the standard "hamburger or hot dog or chicken tenders" kind of stand that probably stood in its place 15 years ago, with funky ingredients (like Gouda cheese and aioli) and even portobello burgers for vegetarians. Basically you pick the meat, and pick the kind of "style" you want (basically what combo of toppings/sauce you want). I got a Portobello "bayou style"--which means blackening spice, jalapeño, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic, and aioli. Sounds like it could be a winning combo. Only problem is that they put all the burgers in a to-go foil that smushes the buns making them flat as they soak up all the sauces. The result is a sad, soggy, small burger that's literally dripping in grease and sauce. Taste was ok, but way messier than it needed to be. Killer milkshakes though...best decision of the Googie Burger experience. read more

Ahh, a lovely lunch in the park, with the sun shining, the fountains gurgling, and the street preacher screaming scripture over the megaphone. Yup, that's how we roll in Atlanta. The burgers are simple, and both the classic cheeseburger and the fancy one loaded with pork bbq are delicious. They're not quite as greasy and thus craveable as my favorite Grindhouse burgers, but still very solid. However, it's the fries and milkshakes that really set Googie apart in my mind. The fries are my version of awesome, which means just slightly thick cut, skins on, long and skinny, and a nice deep brown with the perfect amount of salt. The peach milkshake here is better than the one at Chick-fil-a (and for me, that's saying a lot). Though Googie Burger is clearly trying to jump on the trendy burger train, their prices are much more reasonable than a certain burger joint a little further up Marietta St. Follow them on twitter and facebook to get weekly special promotions (10% off for students on Saturdays, free upgraded burger and fries when you say a specific phrase, etc). This is Atlanta at it's finest - a beautiful hot sunny day, the kids playing in the Centennial Park fountain, and a Googie burger. These burgers are fantastic and beer and vodka shakes are surprising. The service is young and playful, much like a Disney channel TV show. The staff seemed to be having a great time at their summer jobs and we loved to watch them. The fountain is full of kids from different summer camps from all around the city. The excitement was something I'd like to capture and keep forever. Googie Burger made my day as a tourist in my own city very special. The best thing about this place is the location. It is located just across the CNN Centre in the Centennial Park. This is build your burger place, where you have 4 types of sandwiches with choice of Beef, Chicken, Veg (Grilled Portobello Mushroom) and Hot Dog. I ordered for the Original Beef which was good but my wife ordered for Hotlanta with Portobello Mushroom which according to her was not too good. The fries were not too good! We walked a couple blocks all the way to Centennial Park and we got really hungry. Googie Burger was the only thing in sight and it seemed pretty nice. You walk up to the first window and order outside and pick up your order at another window. I got the Googie Burger and a PBJ shake. The woman hands me my shake, and it's like a 16oz cup. Basically a small. And it cost $4.50. That was ridiculous. Was it good? Yes. Worth that much? No. I finished it in a matter of minutes. Second thing? It took FOREVER to get my food. And I was the only one waiting, so it wasn't even crowded. I was just waiting by the second window, standing around awkwardly sipping my almost-finished shake. I actually finished the shake before I got my burger. As for the burger? Yummy and pretty big, but not memorable in taste. They also put their special sauce in it, and it was sort of oozing everywhere. At least it was flavorful (the sauce, that is). My 2nd UYE :) It was a lovely day out in Atlanta at the Centennial Olympic park - it truly is a beautiful location during a sunny windy weather day. Besides that, it was a short walk to Googie Burger from work/downtown, its got a great location and shaded area to sit outside. The atmosphere was light and cheery, tons of people out eating around the fountain and a long line at GB. I do love fresh food, but waiting is a killer when I'm on a timed lunch break, and it took about 15 minutes from order to picking up my order around 12.15pm on a Wednesday. I probably will not have time to wait around in the future for food, no matter how good it is during the middle of the workweek. Maybe good for a pitstop if you just visited the Park, Aquarium, Coca Cola, etc. Food...I got a Classic Googie burger ($3.95 - American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, signature sauce) and Red Devil ($6.95 - vanilla vodka, creme de cocoa, maraschino cherry juice), cost total $11.77 --- I think quite expensive for a burger and shake no matter how good it is! Thankfully I had a Scoutmob coupon for 50% off, but the employee said I could only use it on the burger, not the alcoholic shake, that wasn't mentioned on the coupon. Overall taste was decent - The Classic Googie burger was 2 big buns, a big piece of meat, some other things scattered about, nothing really special to make me salivate after hearing all the good reviews, which made me have high expectations and GB failed to meet them. The Red Devil shake was not devlishly good, just ok, again nothing special - tasted like the other shakes I've had everywhere else. Total fan! So like Sari H & Nancy C, I was there for my first UYE. It was great meeting new (and super nice) people, plus the burger was delicious. I momentarily hated myself for not getting a double patty, but I figured since I had the peach milkshake, a double patty sounded like nonsense - boy was I wrong. Anyways, the burger was AWESOME. So after walking around the Bronner Brothers show all day, need some air and something to eat, so I decide to take a stroll over to the park and tada, Googie Burger just happened to be dead smack in the middle of the park and connected to the visitors center. Who knew? The line was pretty long, so long that a staff member came out to tell us that once we ordered, it will be a 20 min wait since everything is made to order. Eh I was a beautiful day and I need a break so why not. I ordered the the Flyin South Sandwich which was a crispy spicy chicken sandwich with tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle, hot sauce and blue cheese slaw and for about $3 more I ordered it with fries and drink. I also ordered a friend of mine a Veggie burger with fries and let's just say it was well worth the wait. That was by far the best chicken sandwich I had had in a very long time. It was HUGE! They fries! OMG the fries were fresh cut and fried just they way I like them, nice and crispy. I can say that me taking a little walk away from the convention center to collect my thoughts and grab a bite to eat was my best decision that day. If I am ever in the area, I will definitely check them out again. They even had these milkshakes that you could spice up if you wanted to. Nice!!! They do sell beer and wine, but the wine pours always seem a little light. Daily specials can save some bucks, but I never remember what they are. My girlfriend and I ate at Googie Burger for the first time over the weekend. We had heard and read good things about it and were excited to try it out while on a bicycle ride around town. Like many of the other recent reviewers, our experience did not come anywhere near our expectations. I ordered the aMAYzing Burger and my girlfriend ordered the Classic Burger. These were the most flavorless and bland burgers I have ever eaten. The beef was overcooked and had virtually no taste at all. There was very little sauce or condiments on each burger and the cheese (if it was indeed cheese and not processed cheese food from Kraft) was unmelted and looked and tasted like the individually wrapped singles you ate as a child. I can cook a better, more flavorful burger in my George Forman Grill using Kroger's bargain brand ground beef than I was served at Googie. Don't waste your time and money here. read more

After a 10 minute walk in HOTlanta (really though, coming from Houston, it wasn't really that hot out), I needed a quick pickmeup before heading over to the Omni for my conference to start. Georgia Peach Milkshake from the to go counter was quick and timely. However, the milkshake lacked a certain "je ne sais quoi" - it was creamy and smooth and just slightly chunky with the peach, but I think the issue is just that I've never had a peach smoothie (or ice cream) for that matter that hits the spot in the same fruity way that strawberry does. Googie -- apparently -- is a space-age style of architecture reminiscent of "The Jetsons," defined by hard angles and funky curves. Many drive-in restaurants in the 50s and 60s had this style of design. Whatevs. The FOOD's the thang. This burger is pretty good. I had the "classic" with the "signature sauce," American cheese, onions and French's yellow. Hey? Why only American cheese? What if I need a little SWISS (If I'm feeling con-tin-EN-tal?) Or some WHIZ? (If I'm feelin'' Philahhh-del-feeee-ah?) Huh? What IF? I guess I'm S-O-L, right "Googie-ans?" Please consider some cheese choices, thank you very much. On the side: I got the regular fries. Yum. These "french fried PER-TA-TERS are deep fried to perfection and would make Carl "Sling Blade" Childers hum like a crazy man. They're frickin' HUGE -- as long as a Boise spud and as thick as a baby's arm. Well, maybe not an arm -- a baby's pinkie. Counter service only. No indoor dining. The staffers are nice and friendly -- with senses of humor. The food comes in fancy brown paper wrapping and if you ask for a bag, you get a thick paper shopping style bag to carry your chow back to your desk. But if it's not hotter than hell out, like it was today, it might be nice to sit in Centennial Park and enjoy the surroundings. The proof of this place will be whether it can subsist on Atlanta's fickle downtown office and tourism crowd. Hopefully, if it does well, the quality of the food will remain high. The neighborhood already has a burger joint: Just Around the Corner, which is two blocks away from Googie. But the two places have very different vibes. I think they can play well together. What happened to the Googie Burger I once loved? I work in walking distance and I frequented this burger spot. Once upon a time ago their burgers and fresh cut fries were oh so tasty! I went today and I thought they swapped their burgers with Burger King. There was more bread than burger. The burger was shriveled up and loss between all the bread. The fries were just ok--not so fresh and crisp. They even stop giving the free Frisbee with the kid meals. Plus they stopped their punch card (5 punches got you a free burger). Located right next to the fountains at Centennial Olympic Park, this is an ideal spot for nice breezy days since only outdoor seating is available. You get to enjoy the shouts of little kids as the Chariot of Fire water display goes on in the background all while chowing down on a yummy burger and fries. Oh and don't forget the milkshakes if you have the capacity to ingest that many calories in one meal. Most of my co-workers enjoyed their burgers and fries. I would give this place 4 stars but I got the Flyin' South Chicken sandwich. While the toppings were great, the breading on the chicken sandwich was ridiculous. My eyes bugged out when I saw the size of my sandwich (it was huge!) but then I realized that much of the chicken patty was heavily breaded. It was too much and too crunchy for me personally. Another co-worker who ordered the same sandwich also agreed. Next time I'll have to try a regular burger. Their signature burger comes with "special sauce" (thousand island) so I might have to try that since I am a sucker for Big Mac style burgers (yes i LOVE Big Macs, no shame!). read more

This little joint is in the middle of Centennial Park in Atlanta. I heard great things from others and I absolutely love burgers so I was ecstatic to check this place out. On top of that, there was an on-going Scoutmob deal for 50% off so what did I have to lose? I think I got the Googie Burger? I can't remember what I got as my burger, but to be honest it wasn't as memorable as I hoped it would be. The beef patties reminded me of Grindhouse, and Five Guys; I would compare the style of burgers here with Grindhouse and I would have to choose Grindhouse between the two. It was an enjoyable burger, but nothing really stood out to me. To be honest the smell of the fries reminded me a bit of Inn-n-Out and really made me excited and nostalgic, but we all know that Inn-n-out fries isn't their strength. Bottom line is, I wouldn't come back unless I was in the area with friends and have that 50% deal. read more

A convenient spot if you are starving with limited time. Otherwise, don't waste your stomach space. The googie classic beef burger was just slightly above McDonald's. The hot dog might have been worse than a dirty water dog from NY. The kids meal is pretty cheap though since it comes with fries and a drink. read more
