The best pizza in town! Goombas has been a staple on Main St. for years. They have MASSIVE slices available at the counter or you can do custom stuff to order. The Chicken Bacon Ranch pie is my absolute favorite! Lightly sauced, chopped chicken cutlets, crispy bacon, cheese, and a ranch drizzle! The thin crust is perfect as well. The place is exactly what you'd picture a pizza joint to look like, a few tables inside with old mobster posters on the wall. Big pizza oven behind the counter and a young man tossing dough. It's another small family owned business as well, which I love. They kept their prices resonance when everyone else was going up. While their prices have gone up a little the past few years, I will always appreciate them for not passing the buck on to us during the hard times. Service is terrible. Me and my girlfriend went in to use the bathroom as we were walking but because it was an emergency. No one was behind the counter so we went straight into the bathroom without asking. Next thing you know the fat bald guy is harassing us and calling us idiots for using the bathroom. Apologized MULTIPLE times and even offered to buy something. Later called on the phone and he said none of this happened and he would never do such a thing. I was immediately met with rudeness and complete disregard for customer satisfaction. I went around 7 pm they had barely any options and when I asked if I could get a large meat lovers the manager or owner gave me a snarky remark like I was bothering him. The pizza was finally ready after 45 minutes and it wasn't cooked properly. When I complained to the owner they claimed. "Thats how we make it." Who knew we'd find the best NY-style pizza we've had in years in the Poconos? Foldable, lightly crisp and just the right ratio of tomato sauce and cheese. Yum! We got our pie to-go (since our hotel was next door), but the real deal would be stopping in for a ridiculously large slice. And, since many of the less-than-stellar reviews mention the customer service, I can honestly say our experience was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The price is right and the staff is very friendly But there are too many downfalls. The place is dirty and old. It needs to be gutted and remolded. The selection of sliced pizzas are just very basic. The lay out is not contusive to an easy flow of ordering and sitting down to eat. I was also disappointed that they are closed 1 day a week. Was a toss up between giving this place 2 or 3 stars. This was the only place open around the area after we had a concert. Had two available pies ready to reheat so we didn't have a lot of options but they were fine for us--none of the pizzas were labeled so when we pointed at them the guy was like "that's the meat one" and "that's the chicken bacon ranch." While waiting for them to heat up the slices, I noticed that no gloves whatsoever were used between checking people out and grabbing slices, or from the other workers making the pizzas. I guess that's what gives it the "authentic NY taste." This was the only place open around so we just went with it. A fight also nearly broke out from this bloke thinking this other guy took his order, when he in fact ordered the same, very common pizza. Slices were $5 each and took up half the box, so with two slices it basically was a whole pizza. Super duper thin slices, the meat one was really floppy and didn't keep its shape, but the ranch one held together a bit better. Overall, most of the points were docked off due to hygiene purposes as well as the whole vibes of the restaurant. The pizza was not too bad and the prices were pretty reasonable for what we got when we were in a pinch. read more

I always leave the crust- not this time. Authentic NY pizza af, crispy to perfection. I had a great time getting to know the owner (that Brooklyn connection!) so I had great service and I will definitely be back! So...I'll make a long story short, if possible: First of all, the owners were not working and clearly they had their JV team on staff this night. That should have been my first clue. In my experience, the owners are good people and this never would have happened had they been present. Anyway, I order three things: pizza, stromboli, and a salad. Ok no problem with the order. The pizza kid makes some inane attempts at humor, but harmless otherwise. Mind you, it's not busy as only a handful of people come in for slices and they take an occasional take out call. Typical stuff here. After thirty minutes, order is not done. I take a look at the prep area, and the kid is just putting the stromboli into the oven--meanwhile, the pizza is sitting there on top of the oven, obviously done--and getting cold. So I ask the kid to put the pizza back in the oven--and he looks at me like I'm insane. Being curious, I ask why he wouldn't time it out so both the pizza and boli would be ready at the same time. Who the heck wants a lukewarm pizza? The kid actually starts arguing with me, at which time the manager(?) comes out and explains this is the way they do it there. So let me ask you, the reader: do you cook your steak first ...and then start the baked potato and vegetables after? Of course you don't...you time it so all is ready at one time. Clearly I hadn't made my point and they are unapologetic. I wasn't mad, I just wanted an explanation as to why they were selling me a lukewarm pizza, and why this whole experience has taken 50 minutes. I asked if Sam, the owner, were here, if this would have been the same result. The pizza kid states that yea, it would have been the same...and then he calls Sam to complain! So the kid is bellyaching about me, the customer--to Sam, while I am still waiting for the order to be boxed and given to me. It was weird, to say the least. The manager continues to try to explain to me why they did what they did--putting the boli in long after the pizza is done. And she tells me that the pizza remains hot while on top of the pizza oven. Let me tell you that is complete bull. Since it was done for 20+ minutes after it was out of the oven, it was decidedly was not hot. I told her that their way of doing things is absolutely their choice --but I simply wouldn't be returning--which is my choice. And we won't be coming back, which is sad because we like the owners and their pizza is mostly good. (However, our pizza was less than stellar on this night--disappointing in fact.) There were a handful of other comedy nuggets as well, but I've taken too much of your time. With so many pizzerias in Stroudsburg, it will be easy to avoid Goombas in the future. read more

The owners are always super kind to me, sure it's "New York" manners, but what else do you expect from an authentic pizza place? I eat here weekly! After an extended amount of time (45 mins just for a pie) I asked if they could tell me about how much longer the pie would take and his response was "why is there a problem" waited super long for super bad pizza and got an attitude to top it off. Oh and the single slice my husband had while we waited for our pie, the Buffalo chicken slice tasted like it was five days old. With so many options, don't waste your money there. I've had pizza from Goombas twice in the past. Both times were ok but nothing special... tonight I decided to give them another try. We had garlic knots and 1 large plain pizza. The garlic knots were very thick and tasted like the dough had not been let rise. Aside from that they would have probably been tasty. The sauce was good. The pizza was horrible. It tasted ever-so-slightly fermented. I can deal with "blah" food, but my biggest problem with Goombas is the service & uncomfortable setting. Specifically, these items... 1) It smelled like a pool hall. 2) I watched the guy behind the counter make our pizza. After operating the cash register, he did not wash his hands before proceeding to cook. 3) This building appears to have no air conditioning - just 2 large fans blowing everything everywhere. 4) When I asked for a box to take our remaining food home, the server asked "how 'bout a bag?" instead, even though they had plenty of boxes clearly displayed. I really didn't want to take it but felt guilty wasting! So we left with a bag full of pizza.... which went into the nearest trash can after we left. read more

Like some other people, we just walked into Goomba's off the street with no expectations. We just needed to feed the beast. That said, the first thing that blew us away was the size of the pizzas: 26"!!! When you order pizza by the slice, that's what you're getting a slice of. That means that if you're used to eating 15" pies, it's a slice and a half! Think about it. Slices go for about $3.00+ but they're way bigger than NYC slices for the same price. Your pizza slice gets put on a paper plate but the slice is so big, it's tip hangs off the plate, and you can't help but take that first bite...fast! And when you dig in, it's actually really pretty good! The crust is pretty light and crispy (which is hard to do given how much pizza weight it has to hold) and the sauce-cheese-topping flavor (in our case cheese & mushroom) was tasty. It really hit the spot! Plus, if you're a late night reveler, this place is open to 3am on the weekends. They don't deliver, but don't hold that against them. read more

Very disappointed with the food.i requested delivery and ordered 2 cheese steaks,mozzarella sticks,bacon cheese fries and spaghetti and meatballs. My kids literally gagged when they ate ths spaghetti and meatballs. I myself tried it and it left a gross Taste in my mouth.the cheese steak was plain and the bread was hard and burnt.the fries were cold and bacon undercooked. If you want Italian New York style pizza in PA it is very hard to find but look no further Goombas is the place. The crust is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and it tastes delicious on its own without the sauce and cheese, it is sturdy and holds up the sauce and cheese without falling down like a dogs wagging tongue, nothing worse than limp pizza! The cheese is top notch as is the sauce. The Italian sausage topping is real Italian sausage not some shopping chain cheap junk. All of this means real Italian New York style pizza. The antipasto is fresh with real roasted peppers and real Genoa salami again not some cheap substitution, fresh mozzarella cheese, delicious! I am looking forward to trying some of the Italian dishes in the near future. I read all the reviews and I have to tell you I have never heard a bigger bunch of crybabies in my life! This place used to be good. We ordered two pies, stromboli and a cheese steak and fries. Our pizza and stromboli were burnt and tasted like a dirty burnt oven. The french fries were cold, soggy and not fully cooked. The cheese steak had a grill taste and the meat was burnt around the edges. The only good piece of food out of this was the roll. So very sorry that we wasted $60 on dinner. read more

I was gonna eat in then told the lady behind the counter to make it yo go cause everyone else I was with was completely done with lunch and leaving . she walks o her with a attitude and hands me the sandwich it foil in a paper plate and said . " can't give you a cold sandwich "... We were on our way home from NYC and didn't feel like cooking. The place we wanted to get pizza from was closed so my wife started looking for other pizza places that were opened. She came across a place called Goombas and frankly just because of the name we had to try it. WOW. THE PIZZA IS FANTASTIC!!!!! And the owners were a positive delight. Even after a long Sunday in August they could not have been nicer and my whole family felt like we were being welcomed home by friends.
