This was my first time in Cape Cod and I had brought fishing rods because we were camping and I was honest with them and I let them know that I had completely no clue where to fish how to fish and what to use they told me the best spots I could go to and they offered me really good equipment to use in those areas and ended up working. Best bait and tackle shop in Cape Cod hands down. Whenever I'm in the area I twist my ankles running to this shop. They have literally everything you want! Cheap gear if you're in a pinch, top of the line supplies, and two whole floors of it! The best part about this place is they don't just restrict themselves to the store. My wife and I go to fishing expos often and we always see these guys there in a big and elaborate set up. The staff is also top notch and every single time I've been there, they can't wait to talk fishing and offer plenty of advice and recommendations. Bad customer service yesterday. Love the shop and folks that work there but yesterday I went in to buy a net to replace my old one that broke On a 40" striper on Friday. Tried to find someone to help. Only saw one man laughing it up with some folks. Waited patiently for 5 to 10 min. minutes and no reaction from the employee (British accent). Finally had to interrupt and ask for help. All I'm saying is don't forget customer service is #1 no matter how nice a shop. BTW spent $650 there a week earlier on a nice tuna jig set up. I use to LOVE going to Goose Hummock to rent kayaks and paddle out to the backside of Nauset beach to see the seals! Looked forward to this EVERY YEAR! The waterways there are great, and can be friendly for beginners on calm days and xtremely challenging on windy days!! I am sooo disappointed now they have changed their fleet to "sit-on-top" kayaks, instead of the much more efficient "sit-in" kayaks of past years there. "Sit -on-top" kayaks are great for beginners, but in view of the weather and water conditions (tides, wind) often there, it would be more suitable to offer slightly more water-adept coursing kayaks. Staff is always great, too bad the total fleet of kayaks offered are more suitable for floating than coursing through water. read more

I ordered a fly reel from the Mighty Fish, which apparently is a trade name used by this company for Internet sales. First, they never replied to an email asking why the order wasn't updated on their site. I then called the store after finally locating the parent company after an internet search. I spoke to two employees, neither of whom could locate my order, and neither of whom called me back as promised. The second employee advised the item wasn't in stock so I cancelled my order. This may be a nice company but the impression I got was that they made themselves hard to find, offered items that they didn't have, and have pretty sketchy customer services. The manager sent me an email apologizing and stating this isn't how we do business. I would be very cautious about ordering online from them since their customer service is both hidden and unprofessional. read more

Great place for renting a kayak. $45 / 4 hours for a tandem. It is located right by the canal. That means no transporting the kayak from point A to point B unless you are looking to kayak elsewhere. They do not really offer a dry bag so just be prepared. I stuck my camera inside the life jacket and there wasn't any issues. I am not sure what terminology to use for the places we kayaked at. But check out my picture to get a feel of what views you get while paddling out before entering the marsh. They do not reserve kayaks as they have plenty of it. Just call ahead before heading over or stop by to try your luck. We were there right before the start of the paddling season so it was easy to get a kayak right on the spot. read more

Great place to rent kayaks. Staff was friendly and helpful. The best part is you can launch right out back into the cove so no transporting is necessary. The cove was also a great place to kayak - like a lake with no big waves so it was an easy course. It was fun to see all the beach houses and we even spotted a few seals. read more

Great shop Great inventory helpful and knowledgeable sales people but when it comes to having an issue they don't care. I was at my House in the Cape on vacation I went in and was willing to purchase anything I was told so I could surf cast. The salesmen recommended a bunch of lures and I bought every single one, spending over $100. One of the lures I opened was a plug. I had originally wanted to get a floating plug and the salesman pushed me into getting a sinking plug. I went with his recommendation but after using it I really didn't like it. I had the packaging I had my receipt so I went back thinking there wouldn't be any problem exchanging this one lure for another. When I brought up the counter I immediately knew there was gonna be a problem, the sales girl said oh we can't take this back there's some sand on it. I said of course it has a grain of sand on it I used to surf casting. I spent a lot of money here I want to exchange one lure that I bought can you please ask a manager. She asked and they refused. So my take away is great shop as far as inventory but their customer service sucks they're only interest is to make money and if it's at the expense of their customers they don't care. If they would've exchanged that plug they would've had a customer for life I'm up there all the time. Sportsman fisherman especially are a tightknit community and I would recommend to all of them to boycott this place because ultimately they don't care about the sport, they just care about gouging you for as much money as they can while the seasons on. read more

I always stop by this place whenever I go down to Cape Cod. I do fishing often, so this is place to go for any fishing needs. People who work here know what they are talking about and do great service. I bought my first baitcasting reel from here and I still use them well. They also have a lot of lures and equipment that you don't find in big stores, especially the lures that work in Cape Cod area. The prices are reasonable. Yeah, I know that some items are bit more expensive than Bass Pro or Cabelas. However, there some items that are actually cheaper than some of those places. Also, they know about fishing gears really well and tell you how to use it for maximum benefit. As for me, I highly recommend this place. read more

My wife and I bought 2 surf casting fishing rods 2 years ago from here. Not really knowing anything about fishing and surf casting in particular the knowledgeable staff walked us through the best set-up for the amount of fishing we were doing. There prices are fair but when factoring in the experience they have it is well worth the price. I also went back this past weekend and did some more fishing. They were very helpful in telling me where the fish were biting and what the best bait to use at the time was. They actually sell the fresh live bait right there! My rods and reels still work great. So I have come to Goose Hummock a few times for kayak rentals. And they're great. This may sound contrary, but one of the best experiences I had there was when they actually refused me service. I went in all ready to rent a kayak for the day, and the girl behind the counter told me it was simply too windy and something something tides. "I mean if you want, I can still rent you a kayak, but you're going to be miserable out there." I mean, she could have just pocketed my money and then told me it was my own responsibility to check that sort of thing. So, in short, customer service at Goose Hummock is exceptional. Did I say "in short?" I meant, "in long." Cuz there's more. Most recently, I went across the street from the kayak shop to the "rod and gun" store. I was NOT looking forward to this. Check me out y'all: I'm a fcking vegetarian. I leave clandestine animal rights bumper stickers at pet stores and on fishing piers. The vast majority of my donations are to animal rights organizations. In my youth I protested with PETA for christ's sake! Now I'm standing in a store surrounded by pictures of suffocating fish and decapitated deer. Why? Whyyyyyyy???? Welp, my mother had been given a really nice compound bow that she had no interest in. I was sorry to see it gathering dust, so I told her to give it to me and I'd take up target practice. Unfortunately I could barely draw the thing back. It was clear I needed some help. And thus I found myself standing in what was, for me, a literal shop of horrors. But to my great relief, no one was butchering a deer by the cash register or spearing a wild board in the aisles. Just more friendly dudes who kindly directed me to the friendliest dude of all: Jay (Jada). The stars must have been perfectly aligned, bcs I happened to need help with a bow the day the freaking bow master of Cape Cod was working at Goose Hummock. Jay is among the chillest, most knowledgeable, friendliest employees I have ever encountered. You could tell he loved his work and knew his stuff. He spent way more time than he needed to going over the bow, teaching me the parts, tweaking this and that, having me fire it and then tweaking some more. I got the feeling if I had wandered in just at closing time, he would have been fiddling with my bow well into the night. He talked excitedly about other stores off-cape that I should check out and other ways to get into the hobby. At the end, when I was like, "Ok what else should I buy?" He told me I honestly had everything I needed. He only charged me for the maintenance and wouldn't even take a freaking tip! Oh, ps, dude is an avid hunter and you could tell he loved it, but he never made me feel uncomfortable talking about hunting. He really only brought it up when making points about bow maintenance, etc. In short (again), it would have been so easy for me to have a bad experience at Goose Hummock, but instead I ended up leaving with a huge smile on my face and more than a little excitement about a new sport. I obviously can't speak for anything having to do with guns or fishing, but I can say that in addition to kayak and paddle board rentals, if you have any bow needs on Cape, Goose Hummock is the place to go. They ripped me off on a gun deal, at the last minute they said they were going to give me half of blue book price, they made it look like they were going through the book on every gun price, and that is not anywhere near what the guns will sell for in the end. But as I was selling my house and to make a fast deal I went for it, then at the end they wanted to still drop it to two thousand less, I had to get out of the house right away so what could I do I had over thirty seven guns to get rid of then I also had another twelve old guns that had to go so I sold them to the powder horn gun store in Hyannis MA and got as much as I got for thirty seven in the end. When I checked the blue book and found out he did not even come close to the right price in the first place, so if you are going to do a gun deal do it with a honest dealer like the powder horn and see Greg. read more

I was suprised by how the service that we had was poor. We entered the empty shop and directed ourselves towards the desk to receive some informations about the renting of kayaks. Nobody helped us until we decided to disturb them in there chit-chat. We received a lazy service and we felt like they did not care at all about us. We had difficulty getting answers to our questions and after completing the registration, we headed to the dock. There, some teenagers had a hard time giving us float vests and we're slow organizing the preparation of our kayaks. When we came back to the dock after our rental, we had to shout for help to get out of our kayaks. I do not recommend this place to rent or buy your boats. I took the firearm safety course here and I can't recommend it more highly. It's a really inviting and non-intimidating environment; if you're a female novice you could take this class alone and feel comfortable. I was taught by Elise and she is AMAZING. I knew absolutely nothing about guns before this course and took it out of curiosity more than anything and I am really glad I did. If you don't want to get your license, you'll still develop firearm knowledge and handling skills which are really important for everyone to have. You'll also walk away with plenty of materials if you want to refresh later or go on to pursue gun ownership. Regardless, this class is really fun and holds a lot of value for any individual. read more

We made an appointment for an 11am kayak tour and got an email confirming a 2 hr tour for 8:30am. Boats and personal assistance were adequate. We paddled a short distance to an island with a short walk to view an osprey nest, then paddled via same route back to Goose Hummock. Paddle distance and intensity were very light for experienced kayakers. Tour guide was not well-informed and provided some misinformation such as several times calling cormorants 'cormants.' He knew almost nothing about ospreys or horseshoe crabs when we asked, and did not inform about any other local nature except oyster farms. Next time we would just rent kayaks or go somewhere else for a nature tour. read more
