The cheddar cheese bites were especially good and full of flavor. The fries were hot but a little underdone and not very crispy, although they still tasted good. The half-and-half tea was excellent and very refreshing. One major downside, however, was the condition of the men's restroom. It was in rough shape, with splattered soap all over the vanity area and generally poor cleanliness. It was unpleasant enough that it would make me hesitate to bring my wife or family here unless that situation improves. So overall: friendly service, hot food, and some tasty items on the menu--but the restroom cleanliness needs serious attention. Fix that, and this place would make a much better impression.

It's an Eastern North Carolina tradition, and Smithfield BBQ is one of the best in the business. As for other regional specialities, the hushpuppies deserve their own shoutout too. The slightly sweet cornbread batter is perfectly fried every time, which makes these little carb morsels crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. I've been eating them dipped in ketchup since I was a kid and I'm not about to stop now. Quit quietly judging me, LOL! The bbq sandwiches are messy and not designed to be easy to eat on the go, but the bbq plates are the best deal. I love getting the pulled pork plate with potato salad (the best). Since I'm Eastern N.C. born and raised, I basically was born with a taste for classic vinegar bbq sauce. Smithfield's is terrific, and I love drowning my pork in that tangy goodness. Every bite seriously brings me back to lazy summer Sundays hanging out with my best friend in my Grandmama's grassy backyard. You can't put a price on those culinary memories.   Service is fast, takeout is easy, the dining room's small but cozy, and there's even a drive-through for when you're in a hurry. She came over, I showed her the moldy burger, and she took it and my receipt without saying a word. Someone then handed me $4 and walked away. At that point, I became frustrated and said absolutely not--our bill was $46, and after finding mold on one item, we were not eating any of the food. The manager snapped back at me for being upset, while other employees gave me dirty looks. They eventually gave me a full refund, but not once did anyone apologize--not for the 20-minute wait, the cold food, or, most importantly, serving my child a mold-covered burger. I actually tried to handle the situation discreetly and respectfully so I wouldn't alarm the other customers. The complete lack of concern, apology, and basic customer service was unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but the way you treat customers when something goes this seriously wrong matters.

I know they wanna get home just as much as the next person, but if you post that you're open to a certain time, but won't service anyone if they come before said closing time then what's the point?? I could see if someone came in like 2-5 minutes before closing, but 15 minutes...it doesn't take that long to make anything.
