Well, well, well! Costco and Sam's ain't got nothing on Gordon's. They have everything in bulk and I do mean everything! From seasonings to sternos to ice cream to pancake mix. Went for the first time on Saturday. This is one of my sisters favorite stores. GFS stays open until 8pm on Saturday which worked out because I was running all around town. The parking lot is spacious, so there is ample parking available. The store is on the small side but large enough to house a great variety of items. Think of Gordon Food Service as a mini Sam's/Costco whole seller. They basically sell the majority of their items in bulk quantity but you can still purchase regular sizes as well. I love the variety. They sell like 5 different brands of battered onion rings for $7-$8 bags, well worth the price. They carry an amazing array of battered vegetables that you can either deep fry, pan fry, oven bake or air fry, for instance: zucchini, mushrooms, green beans, okra, onions, etc... We purchased two Jeff Mauro pizzas, one was a margarita pizza with cherry tomato halves for my sister and I chose the beef and sausage combo pizza with giardiniera. I have never seen these pizza's in the store. They are absolutely delicious!! They are rectangular in shape can easily feed two and priced at $12 or less a pizza. They have molten chocolate cake in bulk as well as other goodies. I really like this store. They are open 7-days a week and have unique items. The prices are hit-n-miss, they can be on the pricey side but I found walking down every aisle you can find a bargain here and there. The condiments are ridiculous priced, go to Sam's or Costco. The desserts, meats, pizza and breaded vegetable's are reasonably priced. They sell the softest most delicate lady fingers for tiramisu, these homemade chewy and soft chocolate chips cookies as well as butter cookies and lemon squares, great treats to take to the office or any gathering. I don't go there often but sometimes it's worth the trip. Sounds stupid, but I love cheap, thin, non-crinkle pickles. They have a huge jar of them for a very reasonable price that I use to refill the smaller jar in the kitchen. Also the frozen My Father's Table cheesecakes are great. The chocolate variety one is the favorite. Like someone else said, if you're having a large gathering, they have a lot of food options to choose from, all reasonably priced. read more

I don't think I had ever been to a Gordon Food Service before. I read something on the internet describing their frozen pizza selection and I stopped on a weekday morning on my way to work as we were almost out of frozen pizzas and eat a lot of them there. They had a few different brands to choose from. There was red baron, something called Palermo, and one other brand that I bought. Most of the packages had 3-4 pizzas per package. I felt the prices were fair or going rate and the selection was pretty small. I bought a few other things that were interesting. They had some larger bags of candy, chips, and some regular sized sodas. I enjoyed the trip to GFS but probably wouldn't put it in my regular rotation. read more

I am a big fan of Costco and this GFS has impressed me. It is restaurant quality, you can still buy in bulk and no membership is required. They had many name brands on some items and their house brand GFS. Just imagine a Costco or Sam's with only the food section and you've created GFS. They also had an aisle with party supplies. Who needs Party City when you can pick up your plates, cups, catering trays, napkins and table cloths at the same store you're picking up your party food. The pricing was very comparable to the warehouse clubs and on some items it was even lower. The staff was upbeat, helpful and walked us directly to various items when we requested them. Just like the warehouse stores, they had a sample lady who was passing out goodies. I think Jenny S. hit the nail on the head, GFS is the baby of Sam's and Aldi's. read more

Today I brought bag of beef in amount of $100 and after opened a bag of meat I found that whole bag was bad and stinky, I returned product in the store for refunds, manager didn't say nothing not even apologize?? Gordon Food Services is well-placed in the newly revived Deer Creek Plaza. It's a little hidden, facing west on the far west side of the plaza -- unlike all the other stores that face south. I almost didn't find it. I was greeted upon entry, and asked numerous times during my visit if I needed assistance. Extremely accommodating, friendly and cordial associates. I spent an hour walking the aisles, understanding what's there. I bought nothing. Great assortment of dried herbs, spices, rubs and blends. Many different oils, including peanut, safflower, canola, olive, vegetable. Cake mixes. Some items were in large (institutional) sizes. Others were perfect for the household. It's not a huge place, but aisles were well-packed. There was a whole aisle of party necessities -- plates, cups, napkins, plastic utensils, serving trays, to-go vessels with covers. And another aisle of kitchen utensils and baking vessels -- silicon brushes, spatulas, scoops, ladles, offset spatulas, loaf pans, 9x13s, roasting pans and everything in between. The frozen section had many offerings of fish, pork (ribs, pork steaks), beef, poultry, vegetables, potatoes and more in reasonable sizes. Dairy: milk, cream, butter, yogurt, cheese. Many refrigerated smoked meats, hot dogs, bratwurst, ham. Prepared vegetable trays. Other fresh vegetables. WHEW! I'm going back. read more

We are continually impressed with the products from GFS. The frozen chicken has so much more flavor and juice and it puts Schnucks chicken to shame. The eggs and cheese are a great value. The frozen fruit are so fresh and are amazing in my smoothies. The turkey butter mold was a hit at my office party. I don't think we've had a bad product from GFS. Plus they give out coupons! I was so excited when I realized that St. Louis has GFS because a lot of my family in Illinois shops there. It's a restaurant supply store, so they have bulk items from spices and bacon to napkins and sandwich bags. Most things are available individually (still bulk size) or by the case for a good discount. I noticed that businesses have the option to get a membership, and I was a little jealous that I don't get to earn points. They did give me a coupon for next time, though. You know how most things you just don't need a lot of, so it's not worth paying to join Sam's or Costco? Like let's be real: you don't need 10 pounds of bacon at a time, but you totally do need 6 pounds of tater tots and an 4 pound bag of shredded cheese. GFS has all those things with no extra cost to shop there. I loved my shopping experience here today. I looked at every isle and had no less than three employees offer to help me. As checkout, one employee offered to stop what she was doing to help me, but I told her I wasn't in a hurry. And there was only one person in front of me! I gave up my club membership a few years ago when my Grandson came out of diapers and I have a small house with little storage....so when a friend of mine had mentioned GFS and getting some good buys as I was planning a 50th birthday for about 75 people I figured this would be a good time to try it. I was pleasantly surprised! The store was clean, not too big or overwhelming, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, and there was a good variety of the things I needed for the BBQ. The quality of the food was great, I received several compliments on how yummy the burgers and all beef hot dogs were and I felt the price points were very fair. One of the best parts was at check out, the clerk organized a cart with boxes and packed my things as he priced them, it was so easy to load into my car! The manager even asked if he could help me out, after a hard afternoon of party prep, that was so nice! I've got a couple other gatherings planned before the end of the year and I will definitely be back! read more

I went to this store to find some salmon that was advertised in a flyer in the St. Louis weekend newspaper because I needed to buy salmon. There was a coupon for it so I wasn't going to pass it up with a coupon. The store is neat and clean with everything in an orderly fashion on the shelves, but since it's a relatively new store, I would not expect less of it. The employees there were helpful and friendly without a hint of pushiness. During the day today, it was mostly deserted which was fine by me because it gave me some time to browse around without being rushed or crowded. A lot of what they sell is in bulk quantities as far as food is concerned, they have all types of things that a caterer or a restaurant would need for their operation. It's enough to almost make me want to do catering again. Also, if you have a very large family to feed, this is a good place to buy in bulk. I don't need to buy anything in bulk quantities; however, this store is more convenient, nicer and cleaner that some of those other bulk quantity stores up the street in Maplewood, and I will always consider going to GFS before considering going to that other place up the street. It's nice; it's clean; they are friendly, and I like this store a lot. read more

Its kinda like Sam's Club, but a little smaller, much nicer, and no membership! I got a big box of brownies for a very low price. It does seem to be selling to little restaurants and events, but you can do everyday shopping here and save while you're at it. read more

I was at The Magic House and my daughter and I had the tomato and tortellini soup. It was the best tomato soup I have ever had. I found out that the soup came from GFS. I was told that their chili is also very good. I will definitely be shopping at GFS. read more

I love the new stores at Deer Creek plaza (so nice to see something there and not just an empty strip mall) and when I was at McAllisters recently I saw this place - had no idea what it was. A friend at work told me it's like Sam's or Costco but smaller and you don't need a membership. That was enough to get me to try it. And that's a pretty good description - but it doesn't have all of the clothes and electronics of Sam's. It's more like an Aldi's and a Sam's had a baby and this is that baby. Tons of bulk food items in big brands and the GFS brand too. I was able to get a snack chips pack for school lunches and a big thing of Gatorade and the Gatorade was a few dollars cheaper than it usually is at Sam's. The frozen section is mainly the GFS brand. So if you're ever invited to a pot luck and you have no idea what to bring (and you're not a cook) go here and get a big ol' lasagna for $9 and heat it up. They also had sugar cookies in the frozen section that seemed like a good deal for Christmas - 72 cookies in frozen cookie dough for $9. This is a great place to be aware of if you are stuck bringing snacks for boy scouts or you are in charge of the snack booth at the school volleyball games. read more
