Selection of items on one of the shelves at Local Harvest.
    Suzane C.

Local Harvest Grocery is a little neighborhood grocery store a few blocks from my home on Morganford. I had a new recipe that called for red curry paste, but at a surprisingly unfruitful trip to Trader Joe's, I decided to call Local Harvest and see if I could pick it up there. Sure enough! They did not disappoint! The phone was answered quickly by an employee who said they did but then went to the shelf to make sure it was in stock, and she returned to the phone to tell me they did have it. On entering the store I was greeted by a small refrigerated section for fresh produce. Passed by some interesting selections of liquor and started down a short aisle that was simply a treasure of ingredients! I kept thinking of how many interesting dishes could be created with items from these shelves! It was hard not to spend time examining all the items on the shelves. Not finding the curry paste I asked the clerk who remembered my call and she cheerfully showed me the shelf where it was located. From organic items, health foods, kombucha, wine and liquor, frozen meats, dairy products, fresh bread to spices, it is amazing that such selection is contained in this very cozy grocery. The customer service was excellent. What a treasure in St. Louis.

I stopped by Local Harvest for a pizza kit recently and it's been awhile since I've been there. I used to go more often when I lived in South City. They have a great selection of local goods and I love that they have their drink selections in the window now that they have moved to curbside only. Personally, the model is difficult for me as I love wandering around grocery shopping. I completely understand due to their size to go to this model instead of having to monitor how many people are inside Im just not good at planning ahead when it comes to groceries. Will definitely be back as things start to normalize again! It's a great spot for high quality local goods.

Loved this cute grocery store. We stopped by looking for a specific CBD drink and unfortunately didn't find it. Both the people working suggested a few other options to us that were great!

Pros: I love the idea of Local Harvest! Supporting a local business, buying local produce and meats, and having a variety of vegetarian and vegan options are all awesome, cool things that I support. Also, they have a free seed library! They have it organized by what kinds of plants you're trying to grow as well as the level of experience required to successfully grow it. There are instructions on how to harvest seeds from what you do plant so that you can give back to the seed library and keep it going. The beer and especially the wine selection quite large, considering the tiny size of the store. The alcohol section takes up probably a good quarter of the store! Cons: However, I just can't make it my main grocery store because it's on the pricey side and the selection is pretty limited. Overall, though, what small selection they do have is fresh and local, so if you're willing to pay a higher price, go ahead and do it! You won't regret it!

This is clean eating, responsible eating, vegan, gluten-free, all-natural, organic, hormone-free, free-from-any-other-food-concern heaven. If you're someone who has a food allergy, who is big into sustainability, who cares about supporting local efforts, or just someone with a small but appropriate suspicion that everything in regular food is trying to kill you, this is your happy place. Although the produce section is limited (just one aisle), it's pretty much all locally grown and organic. It's always super fresh, not to mention that it's nice to know where your food comes from, and the way it was grown and transported gave the poor Earth a break for once. I love that they even sell milk and eggs from a local farm (though this can be a bit pricey, at about $5 a carton of eggs). Maybe it's placebo effect, but I swear it tastes better. They also sell dry goods by weight, so you can fill up your own baggies with organic lentils, organic flour, organic couscous, and GMO-free soybeans. Did you know GMO-free soybeans were even a thing? It's like discovering that unicorns exist. There's also a big selection of health conscious frozen and canned foods, a sizable beer and wine selection and lots of environmentally sound home products to browse, like cleaning and personal products. Did I mention there's a whole refrigerator of kombucha? Lololol. OK, sorry, it's just too easy to tease a hippie food store. But in all seriousness, I want to give this place a hug for existing.

The Local Harvest Grocery If you live in the Tower Grove neighborhood, the Local Grocery is an excellent place to do your shopping. Instead of driving to the whole foods or trader joe's or even the schnucks, walk to the local grocery. They have a good selection of vegetables for your produce needs, so it is excellent if you need a few things to make dinner, but also for your bigger shopping expeditions, they have frozen goods, meat, dairy, fresh local eggs as well as a lot of pre-packaged food. Or for emergency tampons or chips or kombucha, you can slip in here instead of a corporate hole like 7-11. For being such a small store they have a lot to offer, and almost everything is local with lots of healthy and organic foods. eat local and eat organic and support a small business in one easy stop:).

I'd attend such a meeting, but more so for the lulz (but also to share my beliefs). I'm pleased to report that there's none of that going on here, that I'm aware of. Granted, this was a Sunday morning. I was there with my running group as part of our ongoing unofficial breakfast burrito tour, the last such stop until this fall, due to upcoming marathon training. Of course it was the most unpleasant day of the year, maybe ever, with a heat index of 117 (no hyperbole). I changed shirts before I came in and then sweated through that shirt as well. One of the ladies I was with left a gross pool of sweat in her chair after she left. It didn't occur to me to pull a Charlamagne tha God until hours later. I'm growing as a human being. Part of that growth is gradually coming to realize that seasonal lattes, unless they have sort of especially distinct flavor, like banana, aren't going to taste like anything other generic artificial sweetener, let alone what they purport to be. I considered ordering an iced caramel latte, but I figured what the heck. I went with something called a Miso Brown Sugar Latte. It was good for what it was, but I don't know that anyone, if you gave it to them to try, could identify it as that. I liked the fact that it had a somewhat more pronounced coffee flavor, compared to some places where it mostly just tastes like a glass of milk. I wasn't as crazy about the fact that it took a while for the ice cubes to cool it down, probably longer than it would have taken if it were served in a glass cup. I went with something called the Annex Burrito, which I didn't realize until after I ordered it is not the only burrito they carry. I guess you can also get a bog-standard breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs and cheese. This one comes with corn, beans and some sort of unidentified crema for the same amount. Maybe they give you less bacon. Mine didn't have a lot of bacon, but the bacon it did have was not crisp and had a precooked vibe. The latter was more of an issue for me than the former. I'm a savage in that way. I did appreciate the fact that it was griddled, possibly using a panini press. The exterior was ever so slightly crisp, while the interior was pizza roll-level molten. The overall vibe was similar to those microwave burritos they used to carry at 7-11, but in a good way. All I needed was a mini truck enthusiast magazine filled with photos of bikini-clad Latinas and a Windex-blue Slurpee, but I was able to make do with a lukewarm mystery latte and the old ladies I run with. I'm resourceful.

I don't usually stray from my usual order of seasonal hash but I was eyeing a couple of new items I hadn't seen on the brunch menu before. A breakfast sandwich and hash browns. I was going back and forth and one of the employees encouraged me to go with something different. I asked if I could get it on a biscuit and would be sold. They checked and said yes, I was excited because I LOVE the biscuit. I decided to try the hash browns, too. You take a number and pick your seat, counter with stools line the windows to the outside as well as section that looks into the butcher cutting area. Food came out quickly and was thrilled at the hash browns, they looked so good. Shredded potatoes fried crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside - very good and I would definitely order them again. I am usually very picky about cheese, but I love pimento and the biscuit sandwich was amazing. So it came out as a split biscuit with the house ham and pimento spread, pepper jelly, arugula, heirloom tomato, and a fried egg. I cut the egg in half so I could take half home but it turned out to be nonsense as I couldn't stop eating the sandwich and finished the whole thing! I stopped in to pick up a pork loin because I was around the corner, looking for ~3-4lbs of meat. They only had a 1 1/2 pound in the case (order taker weighed it to confirm before going to the back, which should've been my first warning) so I asked if they had any larger ones. They were nice enough to check and offer to cut one. That's where things went downhill. After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, my order taker came back out to ask how I wanted it prepped (bone or boneless, skin on or off). I said skin off and ambivalent on the bones. This was my mistake, leaving my fate to the hands of someone profit motivated. I walked out with just about a 3 pound bone in roast, which is maybe half a pound more meat than the one and a half pound I turned down - not enough for my guests and I. Had I gotten a roast closer to 4lbs, I would've been unhappy with the price but not enough to write a review. Additionally, they only charged a dollar less for bone in. At $15/lb, I effectively paid the price of their beef for the meat after accounting for the bone. I felt tricked. In hindsight, I should've just turned it down when I saw the price, but I was a bit too shocked to say anything. So I paid my bill and swore that I wouldn't be coming back for anything but (maybe) sausage or a snack again.
