First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

This salon has been the worst-ever experience for me! I go in for a balayage and come out with my hair abnormally dark and next to black. Much darker than even my natural tone. Really, just imagine the opposite of a balayage! My "professional stylist" was CAROLINE - i do not recommend her at all! After showing her multiple pictures of what i wanted she said my hair can't go lighter, and we are talking only 3-4 shades lighter. I have been coloring my hair for over a decade and i have had many different shades but never heard this excuse from a claimed to be trained a mid-level artist. Mid way through the wash she announces "the back is really light" and (i had asked for a natural soft balayage) went on to apply toner and deep conditioning treatment that i went for. She seemed very stressed out and called the other stylists to look and see and consult. NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE AS A CUSTOMER! There is a basic level of trust to not fuck up someones hair. I choose Aveda only because it claims to be better than most others and here i am processing damage/dye/chemicals to my hair and spending 3 hours with a stylist who has no confidence or clue on what she is doing! She panicked and used a toner which i feel took away all my hair color and also my previous highlights (which i loved) because she made a mistake. Upon drying my hair i see no color and in fact my hair is dark brown/black far from my natural hair color. She is not willing to agree and then suddenly asks me to come back again next week. No - thank you! Of course i am not going to pay for this, in no world is it fair to treat your customers this way. At which point she runs to the front desk lady and debriefs her. They try hard to have me pay for this and to the extent say "according to their policy this would be stealing"! Really? Please tell me how some one doesn't deliver the expected service and makes a complete mess and ruining my hair/destroying my previous highlights and color - like what am i stealing? Please enlighten me as i don't see it! I requested to speak with the owner but they were apparently busy (not that she even tried to contact them). I did not want to make it difficult for the front desk lady to have to deal with the unpleasantries as it is not her fault to begin with but the least one can do is make up for it by not saying i am stealing as per their policy! It was very evident that the lady at the front desk could very well see how CAROLINE was in the wrong as could other stylists. Caroline took no time to disappear and leaving the front desk lady to deal with it. She offered free services, credit, redo etc. But was absolutely unapologetic. Why would anyone in their sane mind go back? Very shabby experience, very unprofessional behavior, terrible customer experience! Girls - Caroline was so bad she struggled shampooing and then at combing through my hair (kept pulling them hard). Never have i had such a poor experience. This is my first review! I am not one for reviews but this one called for it. Sorry if it went on too long... in one word i would describe this salon as - AVOIDABLE! :( read more

This salon, and Lindsey in particular, has been a lifesaver for me. I started going gray about 4 years ago and when I decided to start dying it, was very concerned about keeping my hair as close to my natural color as possible and healthy looking. But Lindsey is pure genius with color and Aveda uses plant-based products that don't damage your hair, so no one even knows I dye it. I can not recommend Lindsey enough for color! Aside from that, she is also great at haircuts and has a good eye for what looks good with certain face shapes - she listens to what you want to do, and if you ask for it, will add her own recommendations to make it even better. I have never been disappointed with her and would never trust anyone else with my hair at this point! read more

Mackenzie is fantastic. I badly needed coloring and a cut after spending the winter in Florida. I love Mackenzie's work and also her style. She took a lot of time with me to explain options, her suggestions and listen to what I thought would work best for my lifestyle. I love her work, professionalism and straightforward approach. She took the time necessary and I never felt like she was rushing. The appointment started on time and ended on time which is amazing because of the work involved. I have been going to this salon for years and they are so nice and accommodating! They always greet me, take my bag and coat, and offer me a beverage when I walk in. I am very picky with my hair and who cuts/colors it and Kyle has been perfection always giving me an amazing color and cut (my hair is SO hard to cut and it has taken me years to find the right stylist). He is thoughtful, caring, and listens to the goals I am trying to achieve. I have a lot of hair and it takes longer than normal and requires more time to lift and he is so patient! Not only was Gordon salon able to get me in for a same day appointment, I was able to work with the artist Morgan who was phenomenal! I don't trust my hair to just anyone, but we were traveling for work and the hotel recommended this salon so I decided to throw caution to the wind and go for it. I'm so happy I did! From the scalp massage with my choice of scented oil to the hot facial towel; the experience was warm, inviting and inclusive. Kyle is amazing! He cut and highlighted my hair and it looks wonderful. I have gotten countless comments on how good it looks - specifically what a great color/highlight my hair is. I was traveling far across town to get my hair done, but have lived in Lakeshore East for 12 years. I am so very happy that they are here and that I hooked up with Kyle. I have to give a 'shout out' to Jacob who was at the front desk. He schooled me on the Aveda products they have at the Salon. He suggested a firming cream and it is working really well. First time trying Aveda products and first time at Gordon Salon. I got my hair dyed and a cut. I had an amazing experience with Kyle. He is very knowledgable in explaining the whole process. I came in with over processed bayalage residue and he transformed my hair into an amazing dove dark chocolate waterfall (I love my hair and this is what best describes how amazing my hair looks). The front desk experience was unbelievably off-putting. Pretentious, unhelpful, and the exact opposite of welcoming. It's shocking that a salon would put someone like him as the first point of contact when customers are ready to spend hundreds of dollars on a haircut. Stacy has saved my hair!! My hair was thinning and getting very frizzy. I wore it in a messy bun every day. Why not do something new and fun for a bit? My hair is long but I would love to have waist length hair. This nondescript salon is super easy to get to if you use CTA! Just take about any line and hop off at the Washington Street stop. You can park here, since there are garages all over the place and there's street parking I'd you're lucky. Right outside the building on Wabash there's Macy's valet and another valet across the street directly in front of the Garland building. I love that it's so close to my workplace so I may have to pop in for a bit if style help on my lunch break!

The ladies at reception couldn't have been more welcoming and Sam was right on time. From the start he was attentive and I felt in good hands; and the results were amazing, he did a root touch up but it was way outgrown because of my transition to the city and he gave me a fresh trim that did not cut too much but somehow brought new life and energy into my hair. I've already gone to this Salon twice and will be coming back for my next appointment. She is a good listener when I told her what I was going for and showed her pictures of the tone I liked. I also let her know that I've been trying to grow out my hair so she took a small amount versus other hair stylists I've been to will take off an inch or more without telling you. Not only is she a great listener but very sweet. She always makes sure I like the end result of my hair. She always makes me feel comfortable while getting my hair done versus other places where I was nervous to see how my hair would turn out. The salon is in a great location that makes it easy for me to get there from the loop on the brown line exiting off Armitage. Their website makes it easy to book your next appointment. I really like the atmosphere at the salon, it is very clean and plays great music not too loud. The washing station is towards the back of the salon next to a fireplace which makes it very cozy. I highly recommend Salon Shiloh but specifically Simone :) I can't wait to see her again!

Everything about my color appointment today was seamless. My regular stylist has had to stop doing…read morehair, so I have been looking for someone new. I found Simone through a Facebook post and we scheduled very quickly via Instagram. I sent her some pictures and explained what I was looking for ahead of time and she totally got it right away. I got there a few minutes early and she took me back right away, where we talked through what I wanted in more detail. I showed her a couple pictures of what I did and didn't like, and she explained to me what she planned to do. I have a lot of hair, but the foils took less time than usual which was great! For processing and washing, there is a very chill area in the back with minimalist furniture and a toasty fireplace which is great for when you're processing wet hair. The aesthetic and vibe were posh but not pretentious, I loved it. Everything was sparkling clean too, it's clear that the salon owner/manager has impeccable attention to detail. I could tell as soon as I sat down for my blowout that the color was perfect, even though my hair was still wet. And it is - she turned my overly bleached hair into a more lived in blonde with lots of dimension, and it is super flattering with my coloring. I feel very fortunate that I found Simone after 8+ years with my last stylist, and I definitely will be making myself a regular client of Salon Shiloh!
