This property management is probably one of the better I have had to deal with over the years. Their responsiveness and communication is excellent, and they are quick to jump when maintenance is required. Upon moving out, they do not do a walk through with you so I suggest taking a walk through video on your own. I would suggest also taking one upon move in too. Even though their communication and maintenance is great, their move out process is less than good. I would have appreciated a walk through upon moving out to address any issues they may have been concerned with rather than receiving a letter in the mail. I was charged $75 for blinds that had a minuscule damage. Please keep in mind they will charge you for the smallest of issues! I have attached a photo of what they considered "too damaged" and needed a replacement. Mind you, the blinds were still in perfect working condition. Side note: I left my unit in pretty spectacular condition, so having $75 taken to replace blinds was a bit hurtful. They also charge you for rekeying (which I knew signing the lease, no big deal) and they charge you a large cleaning bill and maintenance labor. All in all, it was about $500 taken from my deposit. Would I rent from Gorelick again? Sure. But will I take proper precautions concerning the move in and move out process, absolutely. Hope this helps future tenant prospectives! :) Property management may respond to this review and say "poking a hole" is damage, yet unfortunately it was there when I moved in. It was my unfortunate mishap of not writing it down on my move in checklist because the property manager at the time noticed it, and made it seem like it was part of wear and tear. I was wrong. What I said previously still holds true of how I have been and continue to be treated by them. I will just say this: I encourage everyone to do your research and choose a property management company that won't treat you the way I have been treated. You then "had a change of" circumstance? mind? Your lease made you responsible for the apartment from the start date. We pulled the unit of the market because we had leased it to you. The lease has a whole addendum saying what happens if you break you lease. Mary advised you of that policy. We are and always do adhere to the terms of our contracts. Your yelp post is libelous of Mary, who is a great and dedicated and professional person. You can make as many complaints as you want to as many agencies as you want and nobody will think you are right in this circumstance. This apartment complex and their management are complete trash. The entire complex shares a single hot water heater, so water pressure and temperature are gone if someone else decides to shower, use the faucet, or flush the toilet while your showering. There is a recurring history of black mold in EVERY apartment. The prices constantly rise without notice. If your neighbor smokes meth or pot, the smoke WILL travel into your apartment, and neither Mary Zdraljevic the Property Manager or Alison Gorelick the owner will do anything about it. They steal your security deposit to "recarpet" the apartment with no proof of who carpeted it or how much it was. Gorelick Real Estate is all con artist and liars. The lack of professionalism from this group is the reason for my comment. I really enjoyed my apartment I rented for a year in midtown, but constantly felt as though Mary invaded our privacy. I saw her multiple times each week driving by the front of our apartment as well as our alley in the back. I wonder how many times she actually does that a day if I would happen to see her multiple times a week. She even drove by one day and said she thought our front door was open, walked up to our apartment knocked, and informed my roommate what she thought she saw. Obviously it was closed and you would have seen that the closer you got, but also there was no need to interrupt us to tell us this story. Closer to move out time, she informed us that she would be showing our apartment. She asked us if it was okay if she showed at 5PM. I informed her that since I was working until 5 and just had gotten home from a big trip I would need a few minutes to organize and clean up before they got there. She then informed me that 5 was the only time she had available. Obviously it doesn't matter what's convenient for the current renter since she didn't obey my asking of an additional 30 minutes. Honestly what was the point in even asking if there was no compromise available? 2 weeks or so before move out, we received a strange email from Mary stating that we would now be responsible for a cleaning fee in addition to the carpet cleaning fee that was notated on the lease. The cleaning fee that was sprung on us was not on the lease and was brought upon due to previous tenants not cleaning to meet her standard. In the email, she stated, and I quote "I am sorry for springing this on you so late and close to your move out date, but it can't be helped. I was coming in at 6 am and leaving after 8 pm on the first days of the month doing the cleaning and not getting paid for it. I am not a spring chicken and was no longer able to do this." First, this does not pertain to current tenants. Whatever agreements are made with other people should not pertain to everyone as a group. Additionally, the verbage of referring to herself as a "spring chicken" is completely unprofessional and unnecessary. I advise that you carefully read your lease and question anything that sounds funny. read more

I'd like to start this review by acknowledging that both my husband and I are young professionals, who have responsibly lived in several rentals over the years in different cities around the country. Renting with Gorelick has been the worst experience to date. We recently moved to Reno from New York City, and while there we were lucky to find a house to rent thanks to friends who live in Reno. While living in New York prior to our move we dealt with the owner, Allison, which was a professional and enjoyable experience over the phone and via email during the leasing process. Once we got into town, dealing with the property manager, Mary, we cannot say the same. Upon moving into the home it was by no means professionally cleaned, there were crumbs and old pet food in the cabinets and a thick layer of grease and cat feces on the cabinets above the refrigerator and stove. Yes, cat feces. Knowing that these things can be missed we cleaned the area without complaint. Having been in Reno for several months we started a house search as this had been our goal, and when we found something we gave Mary several months notice to find a new renter. We were more than happy to pay the lease breaking fee. This is where our level of dissatisfaction with the company and the people employed went south. Mary was very unprofessional and difficult/rude during this process. We were more than cordial in allowing her to show the house and made sure it was clean and tidy during this process. Upon our departure, we cleaned the house completely as per Mary's cleaning standards which she made sure to email us, this included having the carpets professionally cleaned. She did a walkthrough with us and said that it was sufficient and that the only thing we would be charged for was patch and paint of the holes in the walls from hanging pictures. After receiving our security deposit check we expected to have our entire deposit minus the patch and paint charges and much to our dismay this was not the case. We were charged for the cabinets not being cleaned and as anal as I am about cleaning, I made 100% sure the house was spotless. May I remind you that we cleaned feces from the cabinets when we moved in. We were charged to replace two blinds in the kitchen and living room which nothing was said during the walk through, nor was anything wrong with these as they were functional and we left them as we had found them when we moved it. Lastly, we were charged for the patch and paint which we agreed to (mind boggling as all the rentals we've lived in, this was the first time ever being charged for something to trivial). During our move out process there was quite a bit of back and forth between Mary and my husband, which on numerous occasions he was told how lucky he was that she worked so hard to rent the property. We paid her $400 to perform this service and in no other industry would or should we be told that we should grateful for paying someone to perform a service. Also, the keys were turned over three days early, after several pestering emails from Mary as to when she would receive them. We paid the rent through the end of the month; technically, we have the rental until the end of the month to return the keys. Our rent was not prorated for the early drop off of keys. Needless to say, Mary was quite condescending and in general the worst property manager we have ever worked with. We have rented quite a bit throughout our lives and know that we are not degenerate renters, and have never been treated like that by any company or employee previously. In our opinion, if your property manager does a walk through and says everything looks good and then charges you an extra $140 after the fact, it seems like shady business practices. After all was said and done, we did contact Allison, the owner, of our disappointment and the fact that we were charged for services undisclosed to us. Her lack of compassion in her email spoke volumes, especially as she gave excuses for the poor business practices. A sincere and meaningful apology goes a long way. Please note, in the future let your tenants know what they should anticipate being charged as the majority of renters expect close to the full amount, if not the full amount, of their security check returned. This is a security deposit for a reason; not to cover your costs of cleaning a rental for new tenants. Again, amazing to me considering how insufficiently cleaned the home was when we moved in. We can, with all confidence, ensure you that we do not have positive recommendations for your company to any of our friends, colleagues, or those we come across in a personal or professional manner. My husband and I are very happy to be rid of our relationship with this organization. read more

The owners here take awesome care of their properties. I have seen three of their buildings and the renovations of the apartments were really nice, standards above other units with newer appliances and granite kitchens. I haven't seen many others that are maintained like this. They also have nice, well maintained landscaping. Their diligent managers that visit the properties all the time, fix everything before tenants need to advise and handle service requests timely. The apartment we lived in was much overpriced. But that's not the worst part. After 2 months of living with a roommate, she decided to move out and I continued paying her rent. Mary told us that this meant she was breaking the lease and that I would get the full deposit when the lease was up. Fast forward 10 months and I get an email saying that she'll be sending the previous roommate half the money even though I alone had been paying the full $781 a month rent. She then emailed me saying that I didn't clean the apartment properly and that it was my job to replace all batteries, clean the uncleanable snowy deck and buy new oven pans. I lived here for about a year and found that I greatly enjoyed living in the apartment that I did. Mary, the landlord, is very nice and helpful. The pros of the place I lived in would be that the complex itself is well manicured and taken care of, my neighbors were very nice and friendly, and the location in midtown is great. The cons would be the quantity of junk-mail I received, occasional mold in the shower (this can be fixed with proper ventilation on the tenets part), the proximity to the Ponderosa Inn (an apartment complex connected to a strip-club which looks like a scene out of Breaking Bad), and the absence of dishwasher, sink, and washer/dryer. Other than that, the Midtown Commons apartment complex is a perfectly pleasant place to be. I find that people typically do not go on yelp to write positive reviews, so if you are considering moving to Midtown Commons, don't be too alarmed, I loved it there. read more

This company is a rip off. I advise you not to rent any apartment from them. I just spent a year in one of their apartments. Their repair service is terrible & done sloppy. I gave them 60 days notice to leave when my lease was up. They immediately rented it out so I agreed to leave early but only had 6 days to clean. That wasn't goo enough for them. It was still messy. Then when I received my deposit refund, it was only $52.42 out of $450.00. They had deducted $225 for an exterminator service when my apartment were infected with bed bugs. Which came from the apartment below me which was infected twice. No notice was given to me that they were going to do this so it was a total surprise to me. Also their apartments are located in the bad neighborhoods so you have to put up with the homeless & bums going thru your garbage cans & picking up after them. I would not recommend these apartments for a nickel. read more
