Doesn't deserve even 1 star. My son started crying because the asian lady who was cutting his hair hurt him. I don't know where her attention was. I told her, my son told her but she didn't hear. Finally, I stood right beside her and told her to slow down. She smiled, apologized and told my son to tell her if it hurts again. May be she has heavy hands and was rough on the scalp. But frankly speaking, there is a way when you deal with kids. Have patience, be attentive. I know, you're running a business but this is just not the way! read more

Leslie did a Japanese straightening for my wife with cheap products and old equipment, she pushed my wife to get a haircut before the treatment (wonder why... maybe she wanted to use less product) and did a horrible job with the haircut. Looks like she just grabbed it and put the scissors through with one swing, it's a straight horizontal line with no shape at all. If you're looking to get a nice Japanese straightening treatment, spend a little more and go somewhere else, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! We're actually pursuing a refund... somehow! I went into this hair salon late to my appointment for 1:30, that I had made only 2 hours prior. I had no idea that it was near De Anza because I would've just taken that exit off I-280 N than going the way my GPS lead me. Excellent service. My hair going into that salon was the uttermost catastrophe and I trust her to just do magic on my hair. I knew that my hair was hard to manage since it had burnt ends and uneven layers without a definite style. She gave me a cute pixie cut to reflect my healthy roots and add some quick volume. I've never had hair that short but I'm happy to give a try just about this one time. The way she consulted with me before the cut, and how she continued to make sure I was comfortable throughout the makeover was a good way to keep me same. I get really bad anxiety when certain ladies just take my hair into their own hands and disregard my feelings about it. This lady was a lovely lady. I'm certain she is the owner but I didn't catch her name :( But I would highly recommend her, this place, and I'm sure her employees are great too! They've switched owners for about 9 months now but I really like this lady's help for my hair. If he is reading this review, please note that: 1) never hung up on your customer when she is just having the courtesy to call you and let you know that she'll be a bit late--no matter how busy you were at that moment 2) if someone wants to cut without a hair wash, please don't yell at her and tell her that "how should I cut her hair if she's not being washed?" That guy even sent a young hair wash girl to persuade me, twice. Seriously I was about to rip out the towel on my neck and leave that place 3) stop yelling at the poor hair wash girl, she's already trying her best to do her job. Plus, she's a person, not your slave. The way you yelled at her made you like a mad dog. Meh. OK, yes this place is dirt cheap. $23 for a woman's haircut (not including wash)--I've literally never heard of this before. Anything in the 30's usually seems like a steal to me, although to be fair, if you do include wash/blowdry, it ends up being $30. When the haircut itself only costs $23 though, it seems like a ripoff to pay $10 for someone else to wash my hair. My hair was too long and I just wanted to chop off a few inches and add some texture to it. I had heard good things about Rita and decided to make the trek from the East Bay to see what the fuss was all about. Firstly, HOLY cr*p this place is hard to find. Secondly, I think Rita actually makes more per minute for each of her customers than other salons that cost more because there was no way my haircut lasted over 10 minutes, maybe 5. She just hacked off a couple inches, layered a little, and then her son came over to brush my hair for another 5 minutes. The whole thing was just very bizarre and I felt very underwhelmed by my hair. It was way shorter than I had asked, which to be fair I guess often happens at salons. Afterward I felt like I just had a very typical fob haircut, super layered and way too short... It just seemed like a quick 'n dirty job, which is not something I want to feel about my haircut. I have long hair so I don't get it cut that often, and I'd rather pay more for a haircut that I would be more satisfied with. I read on Yelp that the rumor is she used to be famous in Taiwan... stylist to the stars, eh? Did she spent 10 minutes on each celebrity? I don't think so. Lastly, they don't take credit OR debit card. I know this place is Chinese but I have literally NEVER been to an Asian hair salon that didn't take credit cards. I mean, the odds that my purchase is going to be over $10 is pretty high. I personally have an aversion to cash only but I thought this was genuinely pretty ridiculous. They don't even take debit! Highly recommend! To say the least, I am more than pleased with the results as well as the experience in itself. Leslie permed my butt-length hair for less than what most salons charge for shoulder length. She was attentive and receptive to what I wanted. I was reassured because I felt as if my desires were being listened to. Some background: Japanese straightening takes 3-4 hours. It's a long, tiring process for both the artist and client and requires a lot of labor. I expected to feel bored and for my artist to be tired (because she really isn't making much from me at all considering the deal she gave me) but I ended up having more than a great time. I came in with low spirits, but Leslie continually made conversation with me. It wasn't her job to entertain me, but she really went out of her way to provide an excellent experience. The time went by so much quicker. As for the results, I'll put up pictures and you can see for yourself. This woman aspires to do work that any artist would take pride in. I don't think I could have expected or asked for better. This is someone who cares about both her work and the customer. I will return to give her more business. read more

This is Taiwanese family run business. The hair stylist is rumored to have been quite famous in Taiwan, and had cut many celebrity's hair. She is known for matching hair styles to pictures people bring her. Her salon is very homey. When you walk into her salon, you may meet her husband and/or two sons, who run the cash register or wash hair. The husband is most likely to be the hairwasher and can be a little rough on the scalp, however he goes out of his way to make sure you're as comfortable as possible. (Their chairs have massage machines too.) The stylist "Rita" likes to cut people's hair when it is damp, which is quite scary at times, because it seems like you're losing alot of hair with each cut. She cuts it extremely fast too, which sometimes adds to the fright. You must specify if you want something special (like if you don't want her to cut the back of your hair). I remember being a bit dissappointed a few days after the cut, but after a week when my hair began to grow back it looked exactly like the picture I had shown her prior to my cut. Simply Gorgeous definatly has its own flavor, and personality. The same goes with the family that runs it. I would definatly recommend taking a visit there if you'd like your hair styled. read more

I decided to try this out after seeing their signs on De Anza advertising cheap men's haircuts for $10. I usually go to another place nearby which charges $12 for men's haircuts and I was quite happy with that place. However I didn't expect the $2 to make such a huge difference. The lady who did my hair was very rough while using the trimmers. I dreaded the thought of her with scissors operating on my hair. She would choose one of the tools and have a go at random spots on my hair. She used one of the special scissors (thinning shears, I looked it up) which already had a wad of someone's hair in them :( I also felt a small cut on the back of my neck when she used on of the fine trimmers. I wanted to get out of the chair asap. I just nodded when she held up the mirror even though I wanted to make a few changes. Not going back again. read more

I'm updating to five stars since I just went here with my sister today and we got our hair cut together for a discounted $42. At $21 a head, I'd say it's a pretty fair price. Also, I looked at the prices again, and a regular women's cut is actually $23, not $25. Children are $12 and men are $13, so all-around not as pricey as I originally thought. Japanese Hair Straightening: Horrible experience. Leslie Wu is not professional at all. I got this done one and a half weeks back (I did wait before ranting out my experience). I have experienced bad hair fall since then and my hair looks like it had not been straightened. I had naturally straight hair and wavy at the ends. It looks the same even after treatment and feels 10 times more unhealthy and brittle than before. I remember asking her the products that she would be using on my hair for the Japanese Hair Straightening and she said Yuko, but never did she show these products to me. Unlike most salons who have their products displayed, she doesn't have any displayed. Usually salons show the products and tell you what the procedure is going to be before starting a procedure as elaborate as this. But do not expect this professional ethics from Leslie. If you understand what she speaks, that would be good enough. PHEW!! She took me for a hair wash, doesn't check if the water is too hot for the client's comfort, only after I told her she reduced the water temperature. Who in the right minds applies the cream on the SCALP??? For heaven's sake isn't that rule # 1 that you shouldn't apply this or any cream used for the straightening treatment on the scalp? She like a painter used my friend's and my head like a canvas to paint with the cream all over the scalp. This I believe has made the roots of my hair razor sharp and poky. That also explains the extreme hair fall I am experiencing now. I will never go back to this Salon. And I made it a point to post this review so that no one else does to. Please beware. Really unprofessional work. I got a group on coupon for $99 for this salon and when I called in to book an appointment. Leslie told me that I shouldn't buy this coupon instead she would do it for the same price without the coupon. So I thought if that helps Leslie earn a little more by saving on the commission for Group so be it. But this treatment (by Leslie) is not money's worth. It spoils your hair totally. She did my friends and mine in 4.5 hours. That is super fast I know and that explains the horrible feeling hair. My friend had the same experience. Good Luck to your already sinking reputation Leslie. We paid her $10 tip each and I regret the whole experience. I'm glad that Rita is a hairstylist and not an assassin. Though if she were an assassin, instead of $30 a head, she could have made $3,000,000 a head. She is fast, vicious, and accurate with her scissors! She knows what she's doing, and for the last 7 years I've been coming here, she has never let me down! I never knew what my hair was going to look like every time I walked into her salon - but that is not a bad thing at all! I just never knew what I wanted and I always trust her 100% to masterpiece my hair. All I have to tell her is: length, layer or not, bangs or not, and she just goes at it. She picks the perfect haircut for me, every time! She's a famous hairstylist in Taiwan, and apparently has worked on celebrities before. She's very experienced (30+ years! I was asking her, so were you cutting hair since you were 5?), and her family is super nice! The husband manages the place, and the two son (right now just one, but he's going to college next year too!) work seamlessly together! They massage your scalp, shampoo and condition your mane, and while you are waiting for your hair to be cut, they even come and massage your shoulders and neck! The price for the haircut is very reasonable, too! I love coming here and I hope she never moves on to become an assassin. Who could I possibly trust again to handle this mess on my head? read more

Terrible results and terrible service. I went here to get a japanese hair straightening treatment. Worst decision I made for my hair. Now, I'm a very patient and forgiving person. As long as the hair looks good, I could almost forgive any level of service good or bad. Unfortunately both were not even close to being satisfactory. Making an appointment already proved difficult as I called multiple times and got no answer. But no big deal, I can just go to the salon and set one up in person since it wasn't too far from me. Fast forward to my appointment time, the owner completely forgot my appointment and end up booking more appointments than planned. She ended up having to juggle 3 people at once. I thought no biggie, as long as she does a good job with my hair I could care less about having to deal with multiple intervals of waiting around. I tried to reassure her that I didn't mind waiting so she wouldn't rush through things. But my biggest problem with the whole ordeal was that she never owned up to her mistake and recognized she was making me wait so much. I ended up waiting an additional 3 hours than I was suppose to, and she kept repeating to me that it was the hair straightening process and was suppose to be that long (which clearly was not). ALL of that would have been forgive if my hair didn't turn out a disaster. My hair was SEVERELY damaged. My hair started to break and fall out!!! On top of that (if that didn't make things bad already) ALL of my hair were left with a TERRIBLY NOTICEABLE crease mark. Basically, you can COMPLETELY tell which part of my hair had the straightening treatment and where the new hair started. For months it looked like my head had corners..... Never again!!!! read more

I Decided to do the hair cut there as it was very cheap and it was one of the saloon which was opened on that day. The lady in the saloon was so pathetic. She does not know how to cut the hair. While doing the work, she stopped and went to talk to her college almost 10 mins and aruge with him for long. I was waiting on the chair with half cut hair. She did not even say apologies for that. She used one of the crap scissor which already had someone's hair in it. I had to tell her to do lots of corrections after she said that she had done it. Even then she could not do what ever I was correct that I had asked her to do. There were lots of long hairs which is uncut on my back lower of the head. I had to cut manually after I reach home. She did not even use the blade to shave the hair which is near to back of the ear. I had to correct that one also. I have never seen such a pathetic saloon in US over the last 7 years. Yes, $23 is very affordable for a woman's haircut, and yes, Rita does work very quickly and efficiently. HOWEVER, she doesn't quite listen to what the customer asks for. I've been growing my hair out for a long time with the intention of donating it eventually, and was looking for a trim to cut off my split ends and to fix my bangs. Consequently, I specified CLEARLY one to two inches off the bottom and to fix my bangs. When Rita was finished with my cut (literally 10 minutes later) I was horrified to see that she had cut 5-6 inches off the bottom of my hair. I'm not the type of girl to obsess over her hair, but I was pretty upset upon leaving the store (okay maybe I am that type of girl, but hair is important!) Now after sporting the new haircut for a couple of days, I've accepted the shorter look. And though I was REALLY mad at Rita for hacking everything off, I have to admit that the bangs look bangin' and my hair has more volume than before. So... if you decide to go get your hair cut by Rita, make sure to SPECIFY how much you want off. Like REALLY emphasize it, or you may end up with a hair length you weren't expecting... read more

This was one of the shadiest and worst hair straightening I have ever had. The woman was not only aggressive but used inappropriate brushes and when using a very sharp wire one cut my face on both sides. Not only that, when I called back to tell her that she had left a lot of product in my hair and had cut it when I asked her not to and we both saw her doing that in the mirror, she hung up on me. I asked her to give me the managers name and phone number and she refused and then decided to not answer the phone for the entire afternoon. I would suggest that you go literally anywhere but here as they will ruin your hair and then hang up on you but take your money. This was the most disgusting hair treatment I have ever gotten in my life let alone a haircut that I've gotten for eight dollars in downtown San Jose. They do not care about the person and she Treated me like trash the entire time but more so after the fact. I should've checked reviews before going. I brought my 20 month old son here for a haircut. I used to come here regularly when it was owned by Rita. Now it is owned by Leslie. The cut was not well done...it was choppy throughout the whole head where she used scissors, and although the sides were smooth where she used the razor trimmer, when we returned home we saw that she had knicked him in the neck in four different spots with the razor. My son sits pretty still for haircuts and already has had over a dozen in his 20 months. The knicks were not because he was moving constantly. We will be faithfully sticking to Lujia's haircuts for kids in Mountain View from now on! I had the japanese rebonding from groupon. My hair fell off after a week. IDK what stuff they use but this was the worst hair straightening experience. I wish that it was just as bad as my hair didn't get straight but it's as bad as my hair falling off. I lost so much hair and I have bald patches. This review is for primarily for men's haircuts. I don't know much about how they cut women's hair, but according to my mom it's not that good because Rita cuts too fast and passes over the details. Rita definitely has skills when it comes to cutting Asian-style hair, and her prices are sweet. If you don't want Asian-style hair be sure to let her know or don't come here because she always cuts layers into the hair, even for guys. Her two sons are nice and polite and will get almost all of the cut hair off your head and skin so it doesn't keep poking you after you leave. However, the haircut quality is inconsistent, so you have to make sure you know what you're doing before you come. First, don't come when it's busy. I'm a guy, and on average it feels like she's done with my hair in under 10 minutes. When it's busy, the time spent cutting easily goes down by 50%, and often the cut ends up unsatisfactory. Not crazy hair day terrible, but unsatisfactory nonetheless. Based on my experience, I'm sure if she were more careful and took the time she could give you almost celebrity-quality hair. Since she goes so fast, she often cuts hair too short. Make she's clear about what you want before she starts cutting. Other reviewers have noticed this too. Quality improves after she gets used to and remembers your hairstyle. But sometimes when it's busy or for no reason at all, your haircut won't be what you want. I'll still come here and suck up the occasional bad haircuts because the price is right and she beats most hairstylists I've seen for Asian male haircuts in this price range. I guess if you're a woman it might be worth paying $60 for a nice haircut that will last months, but my hair requires cutting about every 4 weeks, and there's no way I'm paying big bucks for that. If Rita could cut with consistent quality I would gladly bump the rating up to 4 or 5 stars. read more
