I used to come to E Spa and Salon at 992 Saratoga Ave, San Jose, CA 95129, prior to Covid. I never had a bad experience. Recently, I decided to try it again. I go there for manicures, pedicures, and haircuts. When I first came there, I was very impressed with the overall cleanliness and appearance of the shop. The pedicure chairs looked fairly new, and the massage mode worked great. I really like how plastic sheets is used in the chair tub, very sanitary. So I did note that there are some 1 star reviews, many of which are 1-2 years old. I am only going to focus on my experience. On my first visit, a very nice lady named Kim greeted me. She was very polite and gave me a great haircut exactly to my specs. I really needed a pedicure, but being an older male, I feel embarrassed about this. I asked Kim, who assured me many men have them. I really like this and have even had manicures. So the last thing I want to mention is that every time I visit, the salon is busy with hair and nail customers. It seems to be well staffed, and everything they do looks outstanding. Please consider this review before bringing your business here! I used to go here Pre-Covid and during the heat of Covid. Pre-Covid, my complaints were with the patience of the staff. I went to dye my hair and the accepted me in the chair even though the place closed in 30 minutes. It took them the 20 minutes to figure that the dye wouldn't show on my hair even though they already put the chemicals. They told me to come back another day to finish the procedure and still charged us that day. My update was that we went back two weeks later and a different person was working there and said they didn't know about that deal we made so I would have to wait until I saw the person who dyed my hair. This was such an inconvenience! But I didn't learn my lesson and brought my business here a second time. So I got my first haircut since the lockdown in heat of Covid still and the lady refused to wear her mask. I tried to tell her but she refused. This place didn't care about our healths at the time and probably still do this day. I haven't been back since and am proud of it. The manager Annie needs to do better job of her role! read more

This place gave my man BANGS on the back of his head. My boyfriend has been coming to this salon for a pretty long time now and he has a regular style that he always asks for and it's very simple. Nothing complex. However, yesterday was very different since he gave the exact specifications but the lady did NONE of them and was being rude when told the specifications again after she started cutting off WAY more than necessary. She left my man looking like a mushroom after he asked for a light fade and pretty much shaved ALL his hair off marine corps style except the top and gave him an awful looking wannabe undercut. The cherry on top of the cake was when she ASKED us for a TIP when we were paying instead of leaving the decision up to us. She then tried CHANGING the price from 20 to 25 dollars after we paid. Please be careful about this place. It's very difficult to stay free of COVID transmission when the store has other customers . I got a haircut on 11/28/21 just a few days after the announcement of the Omicron variant. There are six haircut stations. This distance between adjacent stations is about 3 feet, I didn't see any sign of COVID-Ready. I sat at one of the corner. Then the second customer sat next to me with a distance of about 3 feet. He talked loudly without wearing a mask about one of his relative got COVID and he didn't received any COVID vaccine yet. I suggested he wear his mask but he didn't care. I once saw this booth at a street fair for "free surprise manicures" where you put your hand through a box, and the person on the other end would paint your nails however they wanted. This experience felt like that, except more expensive. The women doing nails spoke zero english so my desires were poorly communicated. Unsurprisingly, the result was disappointing. I asked for a shellac french manicure with black tips instead of white. They didn't understand so they got somebody to communicate for us. The translator assured me that everything was sorted out, but when the woman actually began painting my nails, she gave me a regular french manicure. At this point, there was nobody available to translate for us. Instead, through copious pointing I was able to intimate to them that I wanted black tips, only to discover that they didn't have black gel nail polish. In the end I walked out with just the nude color but she didn't put nearly enough coats, so you can barely even tell my nails were painted. Oh, and I unwittingly agreed to getting glittery ring fingers which I actually -- politely nodding can have its benefits I guess lol. I'm giving this the one extra star cause the women painting my nails really were nice and sweet, and I don't blame them for not speaking English. I was able to get in very quickly on a Saturday morning after eating breakfast at Rose Diner and Donuts next door. The woman who did my pedicure was very efficient. She also trimmed my hair. I've had better quality and service, but I've also had much worse (see my past reviews for some truly gross experiences). I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but I would totally go out of my way for Rose's--therefore, this is a nice, convenient place if you're in the market for a good breakfast and a quick pedicure/haircut. read more

I give this place a one star only because two of the ladies that work here cut my boys hair wonderful. My family and I have been coming here for years its our to go spot to get hair cuts since its right down the street from our house. My 10 year old niece asked to get front bangs which one of the ladies charged $5 just to cut the front bangs which I thought was totally reasonable. I asked the lady once she finishes my nieces bangs if she can straighten the bangs with the straightening iron. When all was finished the lady told me $5 for her bangs and $15 for the straight iron! Really? I responded back telling her that if i knew she was going to charge me $15 to straight iron her bangs I could of done it for free at home with my own straightening iron. I went from a $5 bill to an extra $15 which is a total rip off. This place is not even a high-end salon which is funny because I been to high-end salon and hole in the wall salons and never has any of them charged for such a small request of straightening the hair if anything it comes with the hair cuts. Such a disappointing visit considering that we always go here and they can still be shady with us in charging prices for little stupid things. I got a manicure from here today, and it was not a manicure anyone should have to pay for. I was expecting it to be $5, but I guess they've changed their prices to $10. For my $10 I got my cuticles clipped back until they bled, 2 coats of a nail polish that really needed 3 coats (their nail polish is not the best quality, either), and pretty bad treatment from the staff. The woman who did my nails kept trying to sell me more services that I didn't want. She told me that I should get a pedicure, and even though I said no thank you, she kept pushing it the entire time. On top of that, she asked if I wanted my eyebrows done, and when I said no thank you again, she said, "You need it." Worse haircut of my life! I know my hair is thin and curly and probably not the easy to cut, but "Helen" did the worse job I ever had. The request was just plain short on the sides and top and I ended up with extremely short with bold spots and and uneven semi long cut on top. First she asked me if "nr 3" for her trimmer was ok, how would I know ? Then she turned me away from the mirror and started her butchery. While she was complaining about my curls and how difficult it was, I got more worried by the minute. When she turned me around, I was astonished and close to desperation of what she had done ! I wish that Silicon Valley had more businesses like E Spa. I've been coming here for about a year, as it's conveniently located on the way to work, my kid's school, and so on. When I first tried them out, I had zero expectations. I was just amazed at their prices which are so reasonable as to be "too reasonable". $8 for a men's haircut is a far cry from Supercuts which usually runs almost $20 with tip and incidentals. The friendly service and "mom and pop" feel of E Spa has kept me coming back, bringing my daughter, wife, and even my mother when she was visiting from out of town. E Spa is not an upscale day spa (e.g., Spa of Los Gatos or Burke Williams). It's a great place to get a cut and style, maybe a mani/pedi. My daughter likes me to bring her to get her nails painted while I get a haircut. It's fun to pamper her for $5 and treat her like a princess. At the most basic level, it's at least as good as a Supercuts-plus-nail salon, and they don't pretend to be anything more. Importantly to me, it's a small local business that maintains great pricing and service. Worth a try! read more

Not good. I wish I read these reviews before I went on Saturday :P I guess I didn't bother to because my dad and brother go to this place to get their haircut and it always turns out OK. Let's start off with the haircut. The haircut itself was actually not terrible so that's why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. When I walked in there were a few customers already and a lady on the phone. I stood and waited and eventually another lady walked out and told me to take a seat. The lady that was on the phone then came over (Michelle) and asked me how I would like my hair. I told her I wanted it to my chin and she asked if I wanted it layered and I said yes. She started cutting and everything was fine and about halfway through she says I will style it so I can see if it is even and I'm like OK thanks and then she asks me if I want my hair washed too and I said OK. We walked through to the back and she washed my hair and after she asked if I would like my eyebrows waxed and I said "Sure," because I was thinking about it already. WORST IDEA EVER. I should have paid attention and looked at the wax and actually watched to see what she was doing, but I didn't. The eyebrows turned out well, but little did I know I would be in for a surprise later.... Back to the haircut though, so we get back to the chair and she finishes my hair and at the end she comments "good enough right?" And at that point I'm a little hungry and tired so I just nod and pay, total $40 with $5 tip. When I got home and took a look I noticed that the area around my eye where the wax touched was red and a bit raw, but that seemed normal to me from all the other times I got my eyebrows waxed so I didn't think too much about it. Sunday comes and passes, the area is still red and looks like it is starting to swell...Monday comes and it looks a little worse and on Tuesday when I wake up, BAM! my eyelid is completely swollen. Everyone I talked to said it looked like an allergic reaction. I went to see the doctor on Wednesday and she agreed that it was probably the wax that caused the reaction because the rash is only where the wax touched. I got some medicine and the swelling and rash have gone down a bit, but seriously...there must have been something wrong with the wax E Spa used. BOTTOM LINE: DON'T GET A WAX HERE! I wanted to have a french manicure set for my party. This place is near my house and I saw the sign "happy hour manicure $10 before 1pm" so I gave it a try. Actually it was 12pm at the time I walked in so it was just a coincidence cuz I did not care about that "happy hour" so much. The nail technician took more than 1 hour to do my french manicure and the result was horrible! She did not perform a full service of manicure. She just took out some cuticle and washed my hands with soap and water. Only 5 mins for a manicure? Then she did the design for my french tips. One finger was drawn too thick, she cleaned and did it again. Another one had wrinkles, she cleaned and did again. Another one was not straight, cleaned and did again. Even with that effort, my tips were uneven and looked worse than I did it myself at home! (I'm not a nail artist but I'm sure I could perform a better french tips). And, even with "happy hour $10" or something, she charged me $28 for all. I did not bother asking cuz it took more than an hour there I just wanted to get myself out of there. I tipped her b/c I appreciate her effort and patience when she kept re-doing my french tips. Honestly, if she had got right skills she would have not taken a lot of (my) time to redo it. read more

Since I always pass this place when I go to work or the gym I was curious. After all, who could pass up a place that advertises cheap nails and hair cuts? And I've been to a few at other places that were relatively cheap and my experience has been ok. So, today I decide to come in for a eyebrow wax, bikini, and leg wax. The eyebrow went well. Then she started on my legs. She did not know what she was doing and when I cried in pain she asked if I was ok and kept going. She seemed to be rushing it. She kept leaving me and she jumped from one area of my body to another. At one point, she got a razor to scrape hair from an already sore area. I wanted her to stop and said so, but she kept going. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. It was just a huge mess and in the end I had open sores and bruises. This was something I have never experienced. I have thick skin, so to see these bruises and open sores are horrifying. Not only that, most technicians don't rush or hurt their customers like that. She did and this is unacceptable. In addition to that, they falsely advertise their prices. If you look at some of the reviews they do a bait and switch on some of their customers. I was only told about the extra charge after the treatment. I was told that I had to pay more because I was big. Bad business practice and extremely unacceptable. If they had been upfront with their prices then I would have understood but no one said anything. It's not like my size is something I can hide, it's usually the first thing people notice. They should have said something. Anyway, on the advice of a nurse, I will report this to both the BBB and the Health Department. I have pictures and videos to show. Hurting a customer like that is unacceptable and they should be held accountable. Not only that, these sores can get infected and that is a health hazard. My 9 year old son loved his new haircut, just in time for his upcoming soccer tournament. We did a walk-in, and Annie was assigned to help us. I honestly can not believe that this store is "under new management". It was truly the worst nail experience I have ever had. 1. the manicurist had dirt caked under her nails. I could not even look at her hands while she was doing mine -- it was gross. 2. They only had a few colors to chose from 3. The "spa" experience of a massage included with the mani and pedi lasted TOPS 30 seconds. 4. The sign out front indicated that the services were all 15% off bc they were under new management and even though I mentioned that to her, she still charged me full price until I had to convince otherwise. Worst experience ever! I went to E spa and salon since it close to my house and I wanted to find somewhere more convenient. I got shelack and a pedicure. BIG MISTAKE! Upon walking in I was greeted right away....very nice staff, unfortunately that and the spa chairs were the only nice thing in that place. Their gel color options are minimal. 10-15 MAYBE. Then, the color that I did choose they could not find anywhere in the shop. Really ladies? You have a handful of gel colors. When it was time for my pedicure the tub had water in it. From the smell of chemicals I thought it was being cleaned. Towards the end of my pedicure I saw that the tub next to me also had water in it with toe nail trimmings. I was so disgusted, had I seen that in the beginning I would have walked out then. But let me talk about the pedicure itself. They barely cut my cuticles away and the skin they did cut was painful. And the massage....WHAT MASSAGE? She literally put lotion on my legs and turned my foot in a couple circles. I'd say that lasted about 30 second total. A whole 15 second lotion rub per leg. Oh and to top it off my shalack started coming off the very next day. I will say that when I went back to have them fix it they were very nice about it. So over all one star because they have very sweet women there. But other than that I would not recommend anyone go there. I confirmed in person once again that the price for a trim was $12. After I got my trim, I paid with my credit card.
