From the light piano music to the polished casual service this is a small Argentina restaurant that deserves your palette. The food beat the atmosphere, I could say "wow" but t that's become cliché. I was not disappointed and was wonderfully surprised by the beef. The ribeye was so tender and it the flavor was prefect with a slight smoke flavor from my he grill. Okay I had huge expectations of this place not their fault. The place is nice and simple down a side street. The waitress was nice and tried her best to help us since the menu was not in English and she didn't speak much herself. The empanadas were pretty good we got the ham and cheese and it tasted like a chicken cordon blue without the chicken. I got the filet mignon which was cooked the right temperature and had good seasonings on it. The chicken my husband got was a bit over cooked and tough to chew. We also got the au gratin potatoes which had to way to much cream and not enough cheese but I'm a potatoes snob lol. Overall it was okay nothing wowed me but nothing was horrible. read more

Absolutely the best steak house in Mexico City Great service and very good food at a fair price. Staff was attentive and made excellent suggestions as my wife is on a restrictive diet and needed to adjust some of their standard recipes. The Malbec house wine was also excellent as you can buy it by the glass; interestingly you can buy a bottle and take it away if you can't finish it during the dinner. Nice touch ! Our group came here late one night, hungry for dinner since everywhere else was packed. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. Drinks came quickly, and the waiters were attentive and continued to refill our glasses. We ordered steaks and appetizers. After a 45 minute wait, we asked them where our food was especially given that the restaurant was completely empty. They apologized, and then we finally smelled the smell of sizzling meat. Were they not cooking it before we asked? 1 hour after we had originally ordered (15 minutes after we asked where our food was), everyone's food except for mine and one more friend's entrees arrived. By the time everyone was done eating their steaks, our food still had not arrived. I was basically getting ready to go home, hungry and annoyed. At this point, it had been an hour and a half since we ordered. Our entrees finally arrived and we wolfed them done. For the price, I couldn't believe how little food we got. The meat is so good and juicy! Usually I don't order steak because they tend to be dry or chewy but this restaurant made it perfect! The Empanadas are also my favourites and they have different varieties of fillings. The place is baby friendly and despite the language barrier they try so hard to make you feel comfortable. Wow, we went here due to 5 star rating and we were so disappointed. It was busy so we didn't mind waiting 10 minutes for a table. We were able to order despite our limited Spanish as the waiter knew some English. And that is the end of our good experience. Three of us got our food in appropriate amount of time, but one of those meals was missing the side dish we had ordered. My husband got no food. We pointed both missing items out to the assistant who brought out the food. He asked what my husband had ordered and even went and got a menu so my husband could point it out. So we assumed it was being taken care of. And that was the end of that not so good experience.... All 3 of us had eaten our food and we had made disgruntled looks at the waiter and assistant several times. Still no food for my husband or side dish for my son. Finally we flagged down the original waiter and he asked, what my husband ordered! No one had put in my husbands order yet!! He then said it would be 5-10 minutes more. They finally brought him and my son their food. Then a lady came by (manager) and noticed that both my son and husband hadn't eaten all their steak, she offered to cook it more. And this was completely justifiable as both had ordered med rare and the meat was absolutely rare, almost cold in the middle. We were so sick of bring there at this point that we declined and asked her to box all our meat to go. She took 2 of 3 plates away with the food to be boxed and never returned for the third. A bus boy collected the third plate. After another painful 15 minutes she returned with only 2 take home boxes and no check and said, "excuse me, service sucked". We wasted another 5 minutes trying to flag down a gal that appeared to only be cashing people out. She brought us our check for the full amount, no discount, no free meal...and had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to leave a tip (aka "service")!! It's a medium size restaurant for the area and had a great atmosphere. The waitresses are very friendly and I felt at home. I had a Malbec and it was one of the best wines I've had. The chimichurri is awesome with the fresh bread that is served before the meal. I ordered the grilled Tuna (atun) and loved it. I'd order it again for sure. For desert I had the flan de cafe, which I really enjoyed. I finished my visit with a cappuccino. It was small but all I needed, plus it was very cool-looking. I'll be back soon! There were several groups of English speakers and the waitresses were very accommodating even though they didn't speak English. I was glad I did though! Went to Gotan for the first time recently and really enjoyed my dinner here. Gotan is the type of place where I can order anything on their menu and I know I'm going to enjoy. I had a steak and was served in a generous amount and was so juicy and delicious. The empanada and Argentinian Cabernet was also excellent. The service and ambiance was also great. I went to GoTan, per my airbnb host's suggestion.  Let me preface the meal by saying that I was so happy that I almost cried!  It was AMAZING!   First of all, the service was impeccable; Sara made me feel at home.  When I told her that I'm vegetarian, she did her best to modify her recommendations to suit my diet restriction.  I really appreciate her efforts because most people either think 1) I only eat vegetables OR 2)  I eat chicken.  (I'm talking to you, American Airlines!) For starters, I ordered the 4 cheese empanada and humi.  The former was PERFECTION!!!  I don't know what the four cheeses were, but I could have just had that and been satisfied!  But when I tasted the humi, I couldn't stop eating.   For the main dish, I ordered ravioli.  Sara had suggested pairing it with a mushroom cream sauce.  I'm usually not a fan of anything creamy, but I was glad that I kept an open mind.  And it wasn't standard issue mushroom cream sauce!  This Argentinian mix had toasted grains, topped with freshly-shaved parmesan cheese.  I had to consciously put my fork down in between bites! Throughout dinner, my taste buds loved me!  The only reason why I finally stopped eating was because my stomach wouldn't let me!  I was so FULL! Aside from helping me with my meal selection, Sara also chatted with me during my meal, but without hovering. She made sure I was fairing well, and that everything was up to my standards. (The owner came by at one point to clear a dish; she was very friendly as well.) Amazing!!! We sat down and the owner came to help us understand the menu (we speak very little spanish). We took her recommendations, and were absolutely impressed. The bread is fresh from the oven with great seasonings. Our steaks were great cuts, cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The staff was attentative. From the look of all the past reviews you'd think this is the place to go, even on a Tuesday night in Mexico City. We'll that was NOT the case: FIRST, the two of us were the -only- customers at 9:15pm. At 9:30pm, two other tourist arrived asking for steak. They fell into the place. It wasn't a destination. SECOND, the staff was anything but attentive. Six (6) staff floating around, never inquiring about the meal or if you need anything. THIRD, the FOOD was a 'D' rating. Nothing significant with the flavor and the potatoes were even cold. No flavor, lack luster service and no focus. Something for an immediate revised business plan or a for lease sign. I had the Tucumana (beef) empanada and a Chicken chimichurry which were good almost great but my son asked for a filet mignon covered with a caramelized fig and a wine sauce and that was outstanding. The reason I ordered the chicken was because I often get to be dissapointed with sub-standard beef, but this ine was really good. Needless to say I regretted not ordering a whole filet for me. My boyfriend ordered a steak (their meat is not Argentinian, I think it's Uruguayan) and it was really tasty and perfectly cooked, but I ordered the creamy pesto gnocchi and it completely lacked flavor, maybe having someone at least offering some pepper for your dish would help? It was homemade so I am sure they can improve it, the sauce especially. Also after reading the reviews I was kinda looking forward to meet the lady who owns the place but even though she was there and we saw her talking to the other tables even taking pictures for them and stuff she skipped ours except to say good evening. I mean that's not wrong and she was still nice but it was weird. In general I think it's a good restaurant for steak but it's a bit pricey (for Mexico standards), so if you order other stuff you will feel like you're not getting your money's worth. read more
