    Garden globe

This was my second time at Gott Glass. The first was in December to make a glass ornaments with a friend. It was fun. We got to help a lot and they explained as we went along the process. This last trip was with my sister to make a Garden Globe and tumbler. My sister went first and made her rainbow Globe. She got to do a lot of the work on it and was thrilled with the outcome. I made a tumbler in which I also got to do a lot of the work and he explained well the purpose of each step. The only thing I wish is that my tumbler was bigger. It is the size of a juice glass. All in all it was great and will be back to make the pumpkins or bowls.

Tada! The finished pumpkin I made.

After taking a glass blowing class, I need to bump my rating for Phoenix Glass Studio up from 4 stars to 5 stars. I love that the Owner, Susan Gott, worked with me every step of the way in creating my glass pumpkin for Halloween. From the very start of the process and explaining step by step what would occur, to actually putting it in motion, it was a great experience from beginning to end. She even planned perfect photo opportunities. The studio offers ornament glass blowing in December, and glass flower creation for Mother's Day. Susan is also now participating in the Seminole Heights First Friday events, so stop by and check out her studio. Plus, with the holidays coming, this is a great spot to pick up cool and unique gifts.

One of the best parts of my trip to Tampa. The sign said welcome so I walked on in. Evelyn, the Studio Manager found me a few minutes later, welcomed me and showed me around. She gave me a brief run down of the ovens and the 750 pounds of molten glass they use each week. She explained about the casts they use and the colors they add and what happens to all the broken leftovers. She even offered to show me how they "charge" the ovens, adding additional material after pieces have been made. She was bright and energetic and friendly and capable of slinging 50 pounds sacks of chemicals easier than you'd ever suppose. They were having an open house a couple days after I visited that the kids would have loved but sadly California to Florida is a pretty serious drive so we had to pass. And peek behind the studio and take a look at that spectacular tree house. It was all I could do to resist running over for an inner child satisfying, up close and personal kind of a look.

    Hands on instruction

I received the gift of this workshop for Mother"s Day. My teenage son and I made 3 pieces. We received excellent hands on individual instruction. The pieces we made were beautiful and actually bigger than I thought they would be. We really had a nice time. The trainer was very good, had a lot of patience and obviously enjoys what he does. I highly encourage people take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Gott Glass? Well...you should! I had the opportunity to take a glass blowing class here with my friend Karen F. and had such a great time. Not only is the owner Susan Gott, inexplicably talented, she was very friendly, patient, and helpful. I have always wanted to try glass blowing (insert wise cracks here), but I never made it happen. I was so excited when Karen mentioned the opportunity to me and jumped at the chance to go! Before the start of our lesson, we had a chance to roam Susan's studio. Her work is nothing short of amazing. There are so many gorgeous things to choose from and they are priced quite reasonable, too. The Phoenix Glass Studio is located in Seminole Heights. Would you have expected anywhere else for this amazing studio? This Friday (11/07), Susan will be participating in the Seminole Heights First Fridays Gallery Walk. The gallery will also be open for First Friday in December (12/05). Even more exciting, the studio is offering workshops and demos on Friday, 11/27, Saturday, 11/28, and Friday, 12/05. If you are looking for a unique gift or something different for your home, you should most definitely stop by. Be sure to checkout Susan's website at: www.GOTTGLASS.com. Pictures of my glass pumpkin will be uploaded soon. Karen F. is holding it hostage for some reason or another...

Yep. Susan just keeps getting better.

Susan Gott has long been a fixture in the Florida arts scene, and her sprawling studio/glass blowing/making facility in Seminole Heights is always a great place to visit, and an even better place to drop some cash. A few times a year she holds open house type events and does glass blowing deal, decorates and has a nice little party type atmosphere for all who come. The rest of the year, you can call ahead and/or just stop in and knock and see what she has created. Prices range from 20 bucks to 10K+ for some of the bigger pieces, and she does a good deal of public art these days. She always has a smile and always has great work on display. I follow her on Facebook, where she sends out invites for her occasional open house events.

We brought our 14 year old son here last Saturday to blow his own glass Christmas ornament and what a wonderful group of people they were. The instructor was patient and kind and made the experience very memorable for my son. The ornament came out beautiful! The entire staff was helpful, welcoming and very courteous. The gallery in the back was full of beautiful things to look at and purchase. This is a Seminole Heights gem. Support this local business!

I've taken two Stainglass classes there and I highly recommend to anyone who is just slightly interested Maddy makes it easy for you to get into stain glass by pre-cutting the pieces for the classes and Brandon brings refreshing cocktails, tea, or coffee drinks. It's unique in the fact that you can buy stain glass, use studio time to make your own peace, or take a class that she will guide you through. Maddy is a WONDERFUL teacher who really teaches you how to create a stained glass work of art from start to finish. She will teach you how to cut, grind, foil, solder and in the end you will love your new original piece of art. After taking the beginner class earlier this year I immediately fell in love with the process and decided for my birthday I would have a crafternoon with the gals! Maddy allowed me to book a private session, she gave me input on design choices, offered snack and drink and even decorated! It was such an amazing day spent with great friends in a super cute place. The studio is just a vibe, I really love it. In every nook and cranny is an interesting or just beautiful decoration or work of art. I just want to hang out in there and read or play a game which I'm pretty sure is encouraged! Within the studio you can find East Coast Trading Co. that offers delicious tea and coffee which you can enjoy for free during your class! In addition to the traditional stained glass classes, Maddy also offers date night options where a bit of the work is already done for you so that you and a guest can get right down to business! I've also seen advertisements for classes with embroidery, candle making, jewelry making, flower arranging, wood burning and resin. I also recently saw a super cool holiday event/market I am planning to check out. Basically if you have any interest in get a little crafty you should really check out 'Akala Studios!

Yea, there's a lot of strange stuff, but it's always a welcoming environment and it's always fun to stop in and see what the artists are working on. It's interesting to see that the place is actually a For Lease storefront that they managed to negotiate using and paying for utilities until the space is filled, because it's in a really great spot in the heart of Ybor. It looks like they constantly have different art openings, which they keep updated on their website and Facebook. We managed to be in the area when they had one of their Second Saturday "art walk" nights, which was neat because it coincided with the Castle's Steampunk party so everyone was decked out in their best gear. It's always packed on those nights (probably because of the free snacks), but it's fun to stop in if you're in the area!
