We love Gourmet House! It is the ONLY Chinese restaurant in LaPorte we get food. My favorites are the sesame chicken and lo mein. The staff are always kind and very helpful. The building is older and there are minimal decorations but it doesn't take anything away as they are strictly a carry out restaurant. read more

They have pretty good food, except for their service. Twice now they have given me spring rolls instead of the EGG ROLLS, I ordered. I have requested vegetable egg rolls many times and they were wrapped with the proper wraps, NOT the spring roll wrap. I purchase at least a total of $250 dollars each month and for $21.50 (10 EGG ROLLS), they choose to lose my constant business. The woman that answered the phone was Not a very nice. She was rude and basically said too bad that is the way they do their vegetable egg rolls. They have twice refused to admit their error so I will take my money elsewhere. read more

We came here based on google reviews and were not disappointed. The best chinese food I've ever tasted. Stepping through the door here is like stepping into the home of a Chinese family. The family has their kids studying at one table and a piano set up on another. The mother takes care of the front of the house and the father is in the back cooking up food that is ordered. This isn't your typical Panda Express where the food stays under heating lamps all day. The food is cooked fresh when you order it! I got the twice cooked pork and The Most Interesting Woman in the World got shrimp with cashews. The seasoning was perfect. Usually with Chinese food it's either too salty, sweet, or oily. This is absolutely the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I have been ordering their food for take-out and delivery since I moved to Laporte 12 years ago. The prices and portion sizes can't be beat. It's cheaper for a family to order out from here than it is to go to the Chinese buffet across town.......And you'll still have leftovers for the next day. The delivery or pick-up time are both always fast. If it wasn't fast, it would still be worth the wait. The competition in this town is no match. The couple that owns and operates the place are very nice and courteous people. Their daughter at the cash register is wonderful, as well. They always remember their regulars. I'm thankful that their business has survived this pandemic, and I hope they're still in business for years to come. I will be a customer for years to come. read more

The hot and sour soup was really tasty. The Szechuan park was just so so. The place is really geared more for carry out. There isn't much seating and you eat from styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. I wouldn't avoid the place, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

Food was just okay. Disappointed in restaurant to refuse to give a cup for plain water. Moo Shu lovers, do NOT order If you like the traditional way this is prepared with the thin wraps to put the cabbage mixture into. They do not serve this way. They give rice, instead. Moo Shu is not authentic without the thin 'pancakes' for the wraps. read more
