Ask the Community - Gouterman Orthopedic Appliances

Is there an appliance available for patients with "dropped foot" (post-back surgical), one which can be worn overnight in bed? This should support the foot in normal standing position, but be soft enough for bedding. Or can one be made?

There is such a device. If ever an off the shelf brace doesn't work we can also work up a custom one. Feel free to call us at the office to discuss more in detail. 301-9843342

I am writing this review based on a serious breakdown in care and professionalism…read more Dr. Deming treated me for a foot condition that later developed clear signs of infection, including increasing redness. My concerns about the affected area were not addressed. That same morning, after seeking outside guidance online, I was advised to go to the emergency room due to the risk of infection. I contacted Dr. Deming and was seen that morning, after which I was admitted to Suburban Hospital. At the hospital, the area that had previously been ignored was confirmed to be infected, and I ultimately required surgery that included the removal of bone. I then requested care from a different podiatrist. After I informed the nurse practitioner that I was withdrawing consent for further treatment from Dr. Deming, he later entered my hospital room unannounced, closed the door, and raised his voice, asking, "Am I fired?" I told him I did not want to discuss the matter. Despite this, he proceeded to give unsolicited medical advice about my foot, even though I had withdrawn consent. He ended the interaction by saying "good luck" in a derogatory tone and left visibly angry. I found this interaction distressing and inappropriate, particularly given the medical circumstances. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this provider.

Another awesome visit. These people are truly outstanding. My usual people were not there Dr…read more Tritto took care of me. I wear a Crough Boot after ankle fusion. I have just been aithotized to wear a lower level of shoe. There was pain. Dr. Tritto told me to ease into it. A few hours a day. That's great advice.

Well, I wanted to leave a five star review for Dr. Dua. I had two appointments with her that were…read morevery positive. I initially went in because I had stepped on a nail and I wanted to get my foot looked at to be sure I was taking the right measures to take care of myself. Dr Dua told me to get a tetanus shot, which I already knew I needed... and told me the foot looked ok but to take some antibiotics and follow up in a couple weeks. She noticed some minor athletes foot and prescribed medicine for that. Then she gave me a 5-10 minute presentation on custom orthotics. Great idea but way out of my budget. I came for the follow up. She said the wound was fine, and the athletes foot was clearing up but I should come back in a couple weeks for a follow up on the athletes foot. Then another presentation on the importance of using orthotics. Obediently I booked the appointment, ready to get my feet well, but declined the orthotic again. The night before my 8:00am appointment (3rd in one month) a plane crashed into some high power lines knocking out my power and cancelling my kids school for the day. I had to cancel my appointment and due to the immediate nature of the situation I couldn't find a workaround. Dr Dua then charged me for the missed appointment. While I understand the need for a no show fee, I also know that good doctors can waive that for a situation that merits it. I didn't cancel out right, I just called to reschedule, but still, they wanted to bill me for the missed appointment. It's very disappointing, when I was being a great patient and cooperating with what are probably too many follow ups for something as simple as mine are athletes foot, but I pride myself in being a good patient. In the end, I won't go back to Dr. duo, and I'm really disappointed that they practice isn't working with me or calling me back to try and resolve this issue. I have called and spoke into the office manager. I tried to leave a message for Dr to her directly. I also tried to talk to someone in billing. No one seems to be willing to help me or even hear me out. Overall, it seems like her main goal is to sell orthotics, I think there's a pretty good margin on those, and Bill People for no-shows regardless of what the situation is. I'm disappointed, and obviously I won't be going back. Did I mention one of my children had a foot injury during the same period of time, and I took them to doctor, do it as well? I was being an excellent patient. I'm surprised that she refused to be more considerate about this. For the sum total of $50 she's lost my business. Do no harm.... Look how far we've come. *The one time I was able to speak to somebody, they told me the doctor Dua said this was my second no-show, but that's impossible because I had only just started going there and I had already been twice in one month and this would've been the third visit in that same month. It's really disappointing.*
