Because things can be a bit slow working through the VA, and because I was also away for a month, so it took quite a while to actually get the orthotics. The results are worth it! In late 2022, I learned that I had severe spinal stenosis in the lumbar region of my back. I…read moreconsulted with a top orthopedic surgeon in Washington and a top neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Both said that I wasn't yet a candidate for surgery because, at this time, my quality of life was not sufficiently diminished to justify surgery. Both agreed surgery would almost certainly be necessary in the short-to-medium time frame. When I asked what I should do in the interim, they both recommended physical therapy to become more flexible and strengthen my core. I asked my internist, a back pain specialist, and the surgeon I consulted in Washington for recommendations. All three recommended Kathy Braun. I started working with Kathy in December 2022, and it didn't take long to understand why she came so highly recommended. When we started, I had trepidations about whether I--78 years old, moderately overweight, having had a sedentary work and home life, and with an MRI showing severe stenosis--could improve enough with physical therapy to keep the pain manageable and possibly delay surgery. Kathy said I could. From the beginning, she gave me the confidence I needed. After reviewing my MRI reports, she explained how this diagnosis would affect my life and what I needed to do. She started by explaining the changes I should make in my daily life, such as how to walk in a back-friendly way, get in and out of a chair, lift heavy objects, get in and out of bed, and even load and unload a dishwasher. Then, she assessed my core flexibility and strength and developed a stretching program. A few months later, she added strengthening exercises. Then, every few weeks, she would change the exercise program to reflect my progress. In addition, she would work on my back muscles and joints at each session. It's been sixteen months, and I have made tremendous progress, thanks to Kathy. She kept me motivated in a positive way, explained how to do the exercises and why each was important, and never made me feel like I was letting her down in any way. This week, I "graduated." I will continue with my daily exercises and check in with Kathy periodically and on an as-needed basis. My quality of life in the coming years will be much better than it would have been without the physical therapy. They are unmistakably driven by profit over patient care, and are a perfect encapsulation of what's wrong with the American medical industry. I had 1 appointment with Dr. Keeling. He was late. He then rushed through our appointment as fast as humanly possible, spending maybe 6 or 7 minutes with me. He told me I had some medical-jargon-named condition in my knee, and that I should start PT in their PT office ASAP, ideally that day. He then tried to leave at the point in the appointment where a good doctor would then sit and talk me through the condition, what I should do, what I should expect, etc. But no, he didn't even tell me the used name (arthritis), and provided no helpful advice or guidance going forward. He just wanted me signed up for PT and he wanted the appointment OVER. So I got home and had to google all of the information that a good doctor would have provided, and, ya know, trust that what I'm finding on the internet is sound medical advice. That would have been enough for a 1-star review, but there's more scumbaggery. Within days of the appointment, I started receiving urgent emails from their office claiming I had an Overdue Balance with them. After getting 5 or 6 of these emails without having gotten a physical bill for them for anything, I called in (they don't have an email address). The woman who answered assured me that the physical bill had been sent out and I would see it in a few days at the most. Several MONTHS go by, and I receive nothing except more urgent emails. Today, the physical bill finally arrived 3 months after the appointment. The bill claims a SECOND co-payment is owed, and that I am 60 days past due. It's this kind of used-car-salesmen nonsense that keeps people, in general, hesitant to go to doctors at all. So my advice would be to stay far, far away from this profit center and Dr. Keeling.

The office is located next to the Comfort Inn near Frederick Ave and Shady Grove Rd. When exiting Rte 370 to 355 South, stay in the middle lane to cross Shady Grove Rd. A few streets later, you will turn left and come to the free parking lot for the office building.

I saw wonderful Dr. Asilli for decades and most recently he refurbished my orthotics -- for which I was required to pay up front. Two and a half years later I still receive a bill for the full amount I paid from another doctor in his practice. Whenever I call, the receptionist acknowledges the mixup, politely promises to straighten it out with the billing office and call me back but I never hear from her. The billing office never answers when I try to follow up. My husband, also treated about two years ago by a different doctor, is in a similar endless loop. He had what turned out to be athlete's foot. Regretably, I talked him into seeing Dr. Mizuo, assuring him if he worked with Dr. Asilli he must be good. Dr. Mizuo put him on heavy antibiotics with uncomfortable side effects. They didn't work and he gave him another prescription that turned out to be over-the-counter cream.
