But my kiddos needed something NORMAL before school started up. We couldn't POSSIBLY cancel our annual summer vacation! This trip we stayed in Lakewood Resort's newest unit, just above the office. Wowza. Jacuzzi, in-unit laundry and a super secluded view of their alcove of the lake. A very nice spot. Our favorite unit. Coming from a college town where tons of protocols are done, a couple things rubbed me the wrong way. But ultimately, I felt safe. If you have kiddos who love outdoor swimming pools, this is the resort to stay at! My four year old has a phobia of not seeing his feet in the lake water. He will choose the 'blue water' over the 'brown water' any day of the week. This pool boasts a lake view. You also have the pool to yourself almost all day everyday since a majority of the folks that stay here go out on the lake each day. Talk about a great socially distanced week full of swimming and family! This was our third stay at this resort. The staff is friendly. The property is well maintained. The location is convenient and near a lot of great spots. There's internet in each unit. There's a lot to enjoy at Lakewood Resort.

In addition to the outdoor area, there's an indoor pool with a hot tub, sauna, and steam room. They also have indoor pickleball and tennis courts, as well as an outdoor playground and a basketball court. The biggest letdown was the gym and weight area. It has no usable free weights--just a few treadmills and a pull-up bar--which is an area that could definitely use improvement. That said, with the variety of facilities on the property and the affordable, nearby condos, this was still a really cool spot overall. I will be returning!

The Knolls is situated on a hillside giving the individual condo units beautiful lake views. There is even main channel lake views from the tennis and basketball courts. Individual Condo Units can be rented through the property owners directly, VBRO, Home Away, or through the Knolls main office. I highly recommend contacting property owners (like Alison N.) directly or using Home Away or VBRO. I have stayed at the Knolls many times and each time I enjoy myself more and more. The lumpy carpet desperately needs to be replaced or stretched in the hallways, the exterior needs to be washed down and de-spiderwebbed (maybe toss on some paint too?), they need more help at the front desk during the busy times, and I could go on. We were in the main part of the lodge this time. People were constantly lingering on the stairs. The door to our suite didn't even feel secure or safe, it jiggled on the hinges even when locked and bolted. We could hear every single noise coming from the hallway at all hours of the night. The lodge has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and incredible views, but it is straight-up out of the 70s/80s and not in a fun or nostalgic way. The bed was comfy, I will give them that. And there is a lot of stuff to do around the lodge campus; pools, spa, golf, restaurants, live music, and movies. We didn't partake because we honestly didn't expect much. So, it may be surprisingly glorious... but we didn't take a chance. We checked out 2 nights early from our weeks stay. Because we paid in advance, we did not get any sort of refund. I guess this is okay, we just went to stay with family, so it was all good. We had so totally hoped for a better experience. Sadly, we had a worse one. Please fix this place up! It could be magical if given the right ingredients and love.

The older lady was rude and continued to state I booked 2. Another young lady came over and stated it was an on line glitch and cancelled the second room but the Manager Mel would only refund me half of the room fee for a second room I never booked. Now I have to dispute the charge. Don't book on line. The room stunk, the door doesn't seal when fully shut. You can hear everyone around you because it's poorly insulated and just a dirty property. I would never stay again, very disappointing for the 1st time at Lake of the Ozarks.

We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor water slides, something you won't find hardly ever. We played putt putt golf after. The entire perimeter of the property is dedicated to fun activities for kids. You can tell it is family owned and they take pride in it. From the fully stocked pool towels, the spotless rooms, the clean fresh scent everywhere, and the well maintained facilities and amenities - nothing here has been allowed to slide. Everything is open longer than other hotels, the service is fast and friendly, outside is well lit and spotless. Chain hotels around here charge more, and offer much less. I highly recommend!
