Yeah. Rude, bad attitude. A few weeks ago, I needed my shoes repaired immediately so decided to go with his exorbitant stated price anyway. Pay in advance, he said. I give him a $100.00 dollar bill for a $35.00 repair job. He takes the bill, tosses it on the counter, busies himself with something else for a few moments, gives me the green tag and says "bye". I almost walked out the door, then I realized he hadn't given me my $65.00 in change. I said hey wait. He breaks out laughing hysterically like he was pulling a prank on me. I read the reviews so I can't say I'm surprised about the service I received. After repeatedly stating that I needed the zipper replaced on a pair of tall boots, where it was easily accessible, he said it would cost $100. Good joke. I ended up purchasing a heavy duty leather needle for my sewing machine and making the repair myself. Looks damn good. read more

This business appears to be under NEW ownership. I agree that the previous owner's performance was quite bad. But I am happy to report that my recent experience with the new owner was quite positive. I read all the yelp reviews, and decided that I would make this guy smile. Turns out that he's a very personable man. Not only did I make him smile, but I made him laugh! Listen to him closely and speak to him clearly. His English is not perfect. Make sure you specify exactly what you want, and be sure of what he will give you. I asked him how he would fix the shoe (would it be faux or real leather) and he shouted at me that it would be real leather. From the minute I walked into the shoe repair shop, I felt like he was doing me a favor by fixing my shoes. The owner showed my how and what he would use to fix my shoes which was cheap and ruined the look of the shoes. When I returned to get my shoes, I didn't have my ticket. he found my shoes and then told me that I owed him $3 for the fact that I didn't have my ticket. I explained to him that if I had known that there was a charge, I would have looked harder for the ticket. My shoes....looked like a blind cobbler had "repaired" them. The only reason GQ Shoe Repair on Black Rock Tpke., is open is there is no other shoe repair in the area. The owner was rude and dishonest last time I used his services 2 years ago. I was desperate and used him right before Christmas he charged me a small fortune to put taps on the heels and toes of my shoes. He didn't complete the job when I picked up my shoes. I've brought shoes to GQ. They were ok, but dirtier than before since the shoemaker leaves them on dirty, dusty counters, uncovered. I asked for lifts for boots and he said it would cost $20. Lifts cost maybe $2, and take 30 seconds to attach. NYC top shops charge much less. I heard the man screaming something in the shop when I left. It's lucky I don't speak Korean! Complete rip off. I brought in a shoe that needed a few stitches in two places and prepaid $10 for the repair. When I picked it up he only repaired one area so I asked about the other. He shrugged his shoulders and said $10 was for one repair, I need $10 more to fix the other. This place gives small business owners a bad name. read more

So I've traditionally gone to Champion shoe repair in Norwalk, but didn't feel like taking the ride down there. I read the reviews and figured, how bad can new soles be. I asked him to replace the entire sole on my shoe and $55 later, all I got were new rubber soles glued to the existing rubber sole (which is a gummy material). Halfway through my work day, my sole is almost entirely off the shoe, worse than when I brought them in. I had a similar pair of shoes and the same soles that I took in the past to Champion, and he removed the old soles and put on a new one that are perfect to this day for cheaper. I plan on taking them back and seeing what he does, but for now, I am off to buy a new pair of shoes so I can walk back to the train. read more
