Been here a few times for just empanadas and they've been pretty good. Decided to try something new and got fried fish, chicken wings and French fries. The fries tasted like they were refried from earlier in the day or even the day before. The chicken was rather salty but edible. The fish also tasted like it was reheated from another day, maybe even microwaved. Not exactly sure but it sure did not taste fresh! My Wife and I were very disappointed as we spent $50+ dollars to eat lunch from this spot and it was subpar. That's the risk you take when trying something new tho. The plantains were the best thing we got from this place. The spinach and cheese empanadas are loaded with too much cumin! It was an immediate no from my first and only bite! In conclusion, it is safe to say the empanadas are decent enough but as far as anything else, I wouldn't recommend it. We will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Spotted this place on the way to pick up furniture nearby. Stopped in on the way back. I was greeted by a phantom voice when I walked in. It seems to be a one man show. I ordered the beef & cheese and chicken empanadas. They were lukewarm at 10am but I was still able to enjoy them. These are no nonsense empanadas. Not overly seasoned, no huge onions and peppers to pick out, and safe to eat while driving. There wasn't any grease dripping down my arms while eating them. I've seen this place a couple of times driving on Dixwell. Curiosity caused me to drive down the narrow two way street due to the small colorful establishment with a waving flag outside. I made a note and was determined to try it.. eventually. I finally tried it yesterday. They have a few offerings, but I was there for the empanadas only. I decided on two. Shrimp & Crab and the Philly. Both were seasoned to perfection! They also came with an optional empanada sauce. Warning.. the sauce is very spicy, but I enjoy the heat. Service was fast and friendly. Had the weather been better, I would've taken advantage of the very limited outside tables. It's really a takeout spot, as the name suggests. The shrimp were plump and the empanada was nicely stuffed. The pastry was also lightly seasoned. I'll be going back, as there are several varieties. Hi This was my first time and it was decent. Not my favorite but go check it out. The crust was a little too greasy and the fillings had not much flavor. The sauce I got wasn't much help. Just passing through town on our way stopped to get some gas. See this tiny little shop across from the gas station, and decided to grab some snacks on the go. BEST. DECISION. EVER!!! The empanada pastry is BEYOND delicious. Buttery in flavor, not flaky per se, but melt in your mouth good! I would actually eat this without any filling, but the filling is what made it even better - seasoned to perfection without being overwhelming, or too spicy. The empanadas here are so flavorful and fresh. We frequent this establishment once a month when we're in the neighborhood.

I've passed by a few times but today was the first time I stopped in on the way home. They have an extensive menu of empanadas and several other Latin dishes. It was great to see so many non-meat choices. I got spinach & cheese, veggie, mozzarella and shrimp (fried) empanadas. They were all delicious and quite big. I'll definitely need to come back to try the baked empanadas. I also bought the mango cheesecake. I'll update this and post a pic when I eat it later. This is mainly a take out place (this the name grab & go) but they do have a couple of outside tables under a covered awning/roof. There's also a walk-up window in case you don't want to go inside. This place is good for a quick snack or pickup. Everyone was welcoming and when I told them it was my first time here, they were super excited, which made me excited. The empanadas are really good & some of the specialty ones are fried right as you order them so it's nice and hot. I ordered the shrimp and crab, shrimp, beef, and guava and cheese. I think I got the chicken instead, but it was really delicious. I'm not too sure it can top the beef now. The empanadas were a good size so two was filling for me. I'll be back again! read more

My co workers and I are mostly all Spanish and were a little skeptical about a place called Grab & Go empanadas but we're quickly hushed with one bite of these. A M A Z I N G!!! The food is absolutely delicious. My husband and I were down this was running errands. I decided to look on yelp and see what's good and what would peak my interest. I love a good empanada. Very small quaint place. No inside seating but on a nice day there was a couple tables outside. I ordered white rice and beans for my husband, who is super finicky. I ordered one shrimp and one chicken empanada, pernil on a roll and mango cheesecake. Delicious! My husband said it's the best rice and beans he's had in a long time. Empanadas full of flavor. I actually don't really love pernil because people cook it so dry. This pernil was so flavorful, moist and juicy. Delicious. The mango cheesecake was just the right sweetness. The sandwich I gave half to my husband so I'd have room for the cheesecake. The owner was so friendly and helpful. Food took about 7 minutes to prepare. We ran into this place completely by accident, literally on the way to get food elsewhere, but it looked so good we had to try it! I love a restaurant that chooses to focus on one type of dish and executing that dish perfectly, and Grab & Go Empanadas does it beautifully.
