I've had better beef empanadas; they tend to be a bit too greasy for my taste. However, the service is excellent, and the lady at the front is always very kind.

I've seen this place a couple of times driving on Dixwell. Curiosity caused me to drive down the narrow two way street due to the small colorful establishment with a waving flag outside. I made a note and was determined to try it.. eventually. I finally tried it yesterday. They have a few offerings, but I was there for the empanadas only. I decided on two. Shrimp & Crab and the Philly. Both were seasoned to perfection! They also came with an optional empanada sauce. Warning.. the sauce is very spicy, but I enjoy the heat. Service was fast and friendly. Had the weather been better, I would've taken advantage of the very limited outside tables. It's really a takeout spot, as the name suggests. The shrimp were plump and the empanada was nicely stuffed. The pastry was also lightly seasoned. I'll be going back, as there are several varieties. My friend said the salmon was delicious.

Hi This was my first time and it was decent. Not my favorite but go check it out. The crust was a little too greasy and the fillings had not much flavor. The sauce I got wasn't much help. I had to kick it up a notch with my own go to sauce as you will see in the pictures. Everyone's taste buds are unique so go check them out and you may have a different opinion. Go and tell us your experience.

Just passing through town on our way stopped to get some gas. See this tiny little shop across from the gas station, and decided to grab some snacks on the go. BEST. DECISION. EVER!!! The empanada pastry is BEYOND delicious. Buttery in flavor, not flaky per se, but melt in your mouth good! I would actually eat this without any filling, but the filling is what made it even better - seasoned to perfection without being overwhelming, or too spicy. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning here if I'm ever driving through!!! SIMPLY DELICIOUS!!!

I've passed by a few times but today was the first time I stopped in on the way home. They have an extensive menu of empanadas and several other Latin dishes. It was great to see so many non-meat choices. I got spinach & cheese, veggie, mozzarella and shrimp (fried) empanadas. They were all delicious and quite big. I'll definitely need to come back to try the baked empanadas. I also bought the mango cheesecake. I'll update this and post a pic when I eat it later. This is mainly a take out place (this the name grab & go) but they do have a couple of outside tables under a covered awning/roof. There's also a walk-up window in case you don't want to go inside. A very unassuming place that I'll definitely be back to.

My only complaint is that I didn't buy more! My co workers and I are mostly all Spanish and were a little skeptical about a place called Grab & Go empanadas but we're quickly hushed with one bite of these. We tried the Shrimp and crab and the philly cheese. The shrimp and crab was so different and had a great flavor too it. Go check out my full review on instagram at vicarious.eats later this week.

Gem of a place. The chipotle chicken is my favorite. But all empanadas are great. Decent desserts too.

Most of their baked goods were sold out, which totally made sense because it was nearly closing time and the items that remained looked delicious. So we were sure that whatever had been sold before was more of the same. I ordered a hot latte and the kiddo ordered a raspberry tea. We also decided to order toasted sandwiches (grilled vegetables for me and grilled cheese for her) to enjoy in the shop. Enjoy we did! The latte was served with a foam smiley face. The espresso was strong and delicious and tempered nicely by the milk. Her tea was piping hot and fruity. The sandwiches were toasted but not blazing hot, for which we were thankful because we were very hungry. They also weren't greasy - an issue I have with other toasted sandwiches. As a side note - why do sandwich shops slather sandwiches in oil or butter when a simple iron sandwich press and a hot grill will suffice? Anyway, our sandwiches were great! They were filling but didn't leave us feeling lethargic (please refer back to the not greasy comment.) We were so happy to have a good meal and a seat after a long tour around the Quinnipiac campus. Bussing one's table is expected and the staff kept the tables spic and span in between patrons. Speaking of the staff, the young man who took our order and was servicing the dining area was kind and patient as we ordered. We made sure to leave fifteen minutes before closing because we didn't want to be THOSE people, namely the couple in the corner who'd setup their computer shop and looked to have no intention of leaving without a fight. We will definitely return to Bread & Chocolate if we find ourselves in the area again.

This place was extremely disappointing…read more I've had their bread at local restaurants and always thought it was excellent, which is what motivated me to visit in person. Over the past few months, I tried stopping by three separate times, twice they were already closed, and once they had completely sold out of bread. I finally made it there on a Sunday morning, and they had only one loaf left, and not a type I wanted. We decided to order two egg and cheese sandwiches (one with turkey bacon). Both were terrible. The rolls were soft, soggy, wet, and flavorless. Each sandwich had a single egg placed off-center, so half the roll barely had any egg at all. The turkey bacon was so bad we removed it and threw it out. Normally, I would have just moved on and not returned. But what really pushed me to write this review (which I never write) was the carrot cake we purchased. We took it home, refrigerated it, and tried it later that evening. It was, without question, the worst piece of carrot cake I've ever had. The frosting was hard, dry, stale, and completely lacking flavor, no sweetness at all. The cake itself was equally bad: dry, crumbly, and utterly tasteless. There was no hint of carrot, cinnamon, nutmeg, or any spice, just bland, dry crumbs. The cake was completely lacking sugar. After two bites, we threw it in the garbage. I don't say this lightly. I've been cooking and baking for decades, hold a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management, and spent over 20 years in the industry. I've traveled extensively and eaten outstanding food around the world. For me, someone who genuinely loves desserts, to throw cake away (which is rare) says everything. I understand it was a Sunday and that fresh baking may not be happening that day, but it's simply not acceptable to sell baked goods from prior days that are clearly stale. Even more concerning than the staleness however, was the complete lack of flavor in the product. The sandwiches were disappointing, but that cake was on another level. I won't be returning for sandwiches or desserts, but perhaps the bread.

"Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace Molly is the singer…read morein a band Desmond says to Molly, "Girl, I like your face" And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand" (Lennon and McCartney) Man oh man do we love our Italian markets and delis. And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.
