We came here for a late lunch on Mother's Day. The serving sizes are very large. It was hard to get pictures without people already eating. Lol . Everyone that had the Pizza thought it was a very good. Side of french fries was very large. Two kids devoured it by the time I got to take a picture. My mother had this spaghetti and meatballs and liked it a lot. She enjoyed the meatballs himself as they had a lot of flavor and she could see the ingredients inside such as parsley and garlic. My sister enjoyed her angel hair and Alfredo sauce as well as they both enjoyed the soup. Super salad comes with your dinner and as you can see, the soup was very large. My husband had a house salad, and he added blackened shrimp, which came with a good amount of shrimp, avocado, raisins, and almonds. He liked the salad very much. I ordered a special the gnocchi with marinara sauce, and burrata . Overall, the sauce was very good, but I disliked how much sauce was given. For me, I felt like it was too much sauce and my pasta was swimming in it. I would request less sauce the next time I go. Overall, the price was not bad at all. We all enjoy our meal and every single one of us brought food home. Oh, on the sidenote, a good amount of their soups are made vegetarian. This is difficult to find so if you are looking for a vegetarian soup, they told me the escarole and beans, pasta, , pasta fagiol and the lentils were all done. read more

Antonio's on Route 5 is an Italian restaurant, sub shop and pizzeria that opened in North Haven, Connecticut in 1986. It was founded by Antonio Occhibove. Originally called "Antonio's Pizzeria" (and then later "Antonio's Sub Shop & Pizzeria"), the establishment has been located at a few different spots on Washington Avenue throughout the years. They have been located at their current address at 528 Washington Avenue for approximately 15 years. The menu consists of a variety of Italian-American staples including chicken entrees, eggplant entrees, seafood entrees, pasta dishes, pizza, soups, salads, appetizers, panini and focaccia sandwiches, subs and wraps. The current owner is Kristjan Lulaj. My family and I recently ordered pizza from Antonio's. We were hosting a birthday party for our younger son and thought that everyone would want pizza. After shopping around, we found that Antonio's had some VERY decent prices. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've lived in North Haven for my whole life and I never ordered from them. We ordered 4 extra larges: a "Mozzarella", a "Margherita" (fresh homemade mozzarella, tomato sauce, olive oil and fresh basil), a "Chicken Cutlet Bruschetta" (chicken cutlet topped with bruschetta tomatoes & mozzarella cheese), and a "Vodka Pizza" (square pie topped with vodka sauce and mozzarella cheese). When I arrived to pick up the pizzas, the whole restaurant smelled amazing. I saw one of the staff making some stuffed breads in the kitchen. When I got home, the pizzas looked and tasted great. They were a big hit with the party. I can't believe that it took me so long to finally order from Antonios. They make great quality Italian food for very reasonable prices. I had dinner a few weeks ago ago on a Fri night . The food was fantastic but the space was very cramped And limited. We had chicken Florentine and a grilled shrimp over spinach in a lemon sauce. Very good . Soup salad and side of pasta it's also a BYOB if you choose to bring alcohol.. Definitely recommend reservations it had a good wait . Let me preface this by saying we order from this place at least once sometimes twice a week. I was in a jam on Christmas Eve day I went in there just to get a loaf of Italian bread. It was around 12:15 The girl asked me if I was picking up an order. I told her I just needed a loaf of bread she made a face and then she walked into the oven area where there were numerous trays of Italian bread sitting right on the counter, and then walked back over and said no I can't sell it to you. They're all spoken for we're sold out. Really!!! You couldn't sell a regular customer a one loaf of your overpriced Italian bread in a jam on Christmas Eve day! Pathetic! So much for customer loyalty for supporting small businesses, ended up having to go to Big Y ! Yeah merry Christmas Antonio's and thanks for nothing! We are visiting for the weekend and ran across Antonio's while looking for food. From the outside you're not sure what's in store for you. The staff treated us with a hello and a smile. I went here with my daughter and her boyfriend for dinner and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. Coming from the Midwest, pizza and sub shops are never as good as they are in New England and in the East coast. I personally think the water in Indiana has too much lime in it and it affects the flavor and quality of the bread and crust. Antonio's is what an Italian sub and pizza shop is meant to be. Wow. Just wow. Fresh baked bread is the first thing you see in the cases when you walked in. That's where I first knew I needed something on that focaccia roll. All of the bread and dough is made fresh here. You can't go wrong. One of my party got a huge fried dough. This isn't the fried dough of fairs. Just like the bread, the dough was made in house and it had great flavor. The sandwich I got had chicken cutlet which was perfectly thin and crispy whiteout being dry. My sandwich ended up being communal since everyone wanted to try it lol. The mozzarella sticks...more like massive triangle...was swoon worthy! The chef came over to check in and ask if we liked the food. He was very kind and attentive. He truly values customer service. They just opened up the second half of the dining room by adding more seating. It is a place that can easily accommodate a group. The restaurant was clean and the well taken care of. Great value meals. All the meals are reasonably priced for a regular size meal, however these meals are larger the normal servings. The soup that comes with the meal is a large bowl, along with the side of pasta. The escarole soup was delicious. It has just enough spices and the touch of heat and it was very very good. I had the chicken parmigiana. It had two large pieces of chicken covered with mozzarella. The side of pasta was also very good. They serve the meals with homemade, hard crusted bread with a soft center. Off street parking and a great service staff. read more

Tonight I ordered two large pizzas.One all cheese, half bacon, the other all cheese half pepperoni, half sausage. They had a generous amount of great tasting toppings, but the pizza itself I would consider good, but nothing special. We routinely go out of our way to stop here on our trips between NY and VT. Top notch pizza of course - but the killer move is their subs and paninis in fresh homemade rolls. If you are looking for a dinner spot, this is the place! Antonio's has a great variety of fine quality Italian food at a great value. Fresh Italian bread delivered daily for subs, and the "panini" rolls are house made and rolled out by hand. They are as big as the subs - if not bigger! Overall, you get a ton of food. Dinners come with salad and pasta at no additional cost. Everything I have gotten from them has been top notch. My personal suggestion- get the eggplant! You won't regret it! It is one of the best I've had and is razor thin! Aside from the incredible food, the service is outstanding! Christian, the owner of Antonio's, worked with my wife and I to host our son's baptism luncheon for a large party of 60 people and was kind enough to open up the restaurant for us on a Sunday when they are usually closed. Christian accommodated everything we needed to make the baptism celebration a memorable one. Now-a-day's this kind of service is unheard of, but Christian and his staff went ABOVE and BEYOND general expectation and was so kind and easy to work with. As expected, there was plenty of food! All of our guests left with to-go containers and have been raving all week about how they can't wait to go back because the food was so good. When we arrived at Antonio's for the first time, we were surprised to see that they referred to themselves as the Home of the Panini and wanted to see what it was all about. Though it's not your typical pressed panini, Antonio's definitely knows what they're doing. Their freshly baked focaccia bread was some of the best I've ever had, and I couldn't believe that for such a large sandwich, it was priced under $10! If I worked around here, I'd probably come get their paninis for lunch everyday. The cheese pizza was good, and we really enjoyed the burrata, prosciutto, and pesto appetizer that we had. The sauce on the spaghetti and meatballs was a bit watery, though I did like the meatballs. Every pasta dish comes with a soup or salad, so I chose the pasta fagioli. I was expecting a cup of soup, but the size of the bowl was literally bigger than my head! It was some fantastic pasta fagioli too. I must have hit them on a bad day. Just looking for a quick lunch. Saw the specials list had "calamari fagioli". Seemed interesting. Asked the lady what it was. She had no idea and had to ask someone else. Lol. It was basically some rubbery calamari floating in a very thin broth with far too many hot peppers and garlic and a few cannelloni beans. It was edible, but not great. Here is the odd part. I asked if I should sit down, or order at the counter. She said "at lunch order here and I will bring it" Fine. I just wanted water. When I got my meal, I got a bottle of poland spring (couple bux). But during this, another couple came in, got service at the table, and got two glasses of "free water". So I guess if you are a regular, you get different treatment. I'd never go back, but am rarely in the area, so it does not really matter. Ordered 4 pizzas at 10:14am for an 11:15 pickup. Said I had a meeting at 11:30 and requested to be ready. Usually go to Bar or Grande but they weren't open so gave Antonio's a chance. Showed up at 11:10 and was told it would be 25 minutes. No apology. Just said someone wrote the time down illegibly. Asked to speak to manager. Said he's not available and out running deliveries. Was then advised 5 minutes later that the receipt I signed charged $66 to a third parties credit card so I needed to redo it. Obviously, I said this whole endeavor is unacceptable and bullshit. Cashier decided to discuss how my attitude that was not ok and became sarcastic. I can agree that mistakes happen, but the proper approach is to have a manager on staff, allow for a discount of some sort, and definitely not have staff reprimand patrons after two glaring mistakes. Definitely under no circumstances charge $66 to a third parties credit card. Go to Grande or Bar for better service. Btw pizza was provided 14 minutes after the requested time so it wasn't too egregious,but total service was lacking. read more

Antonios hosted my grandson's baptism celebration, which was wonderful. Their was an abundance of delicious food. Everyone is still talking about the wonderful food. The food is not what it used to be like back in 2014 was the last time I ate anything there. But I tried it again almost a month ago the eggplant Panini was not made the same as they used to. It was overheated and they gave me a tiny little plastic container filled halfway with sauce to pour over it, and they used to fill that little container all the way. They also don't use the same one as they used to. It's just not the same I won't be eating there again. They must've sold it yet again and now they have new cooks. read more

Ordered two subs today. The meatball parm and the Sammy's sub. Order was quick and on time. When I arrived home and opened BOTH subs. not just one but BOTH breads on both subs were black. The bread portion of the sandwich was inedible. Don't know who in their right mind would think it was ok to serve someone a sandwich on burnt to a crisp bread. I called back and the manager did say I could come back in to get another sub but I didn't even want to waste my time going to this dump. Been here a few times now and haven't been disappointed yet. The sandwiches are very big as are the individual slices of pizza. There's a great choice of toppings for individual slices which are ready to go (after a quick heat up), too. The freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are wonderful and probably better than any other local place I can think of right now. Today I got an eggplant parmigiana sub and posted a picture. The bread is toasted very well so if you prefer soft bread you need to let them know. The eggplant is not heavily breaded. In fact, it's more of a light egg/flour coating which makes for a soft and more flavorful product. The mozzarella was melted perfectly and had just the right amount of saltiness. The sandwich was too big for lunch so I took half home for dinner. Not bad for $7! read more

Not sure how long this place has been here. My parents went a few times before and ranted and raved about it to me, so of course they had to take me. Of course the day they bring me, wasn't the best days. Food was okay, I ordered shrimp scampi because I'm always trying to find a shrimp scampi better than Napoli's. This one was very close, even looking almost exactly the same, but the sauce wasn't quite right. Both my mom and I actually thought our dishes tasted a little sour (we kept eating and didn't get sick or anything, so maybe just the way it smelled that day), but I still took mine home and ate my leftovers 2 days later. Definitely would love to come back and try the Panini's or sandwiches, since that is what they are supposed to be famous for. Would love to try pizza too. Antonio's is a great place to pick up a sub or panini. My coworkers and I have ordered to-go from here hundreds of times, over the many years that I've worked in Hamden. The panini sandwiches are usually my first choice. For me, one sandwich usually becomes 2 or 3 meals. Even cold the next day, they're great. Just yesterday, I had the chicken, fresh mozzarella, pesto & roasted peppers. All of the ingredients were fresh, and tasted wonderful. The panini was a little burnt, but it didn't bother me. I prefer my bread a little more toasted than most. My only complaint, and my word of caution is this; once you get your sandwich to where you're going to eat it, remove the paper plate that they wrap it on. If you wait till the end of the meal, to wrap the other half (believe me, you will), you'll be pulling paper plate pieces off of the bread before you can eat it again. I understand why they use the plates, the sandwiches are just so darned heavy! Don't miss out on these other favs of mine; broccoli rabe, eggplant & Mama's Foccacia.
