I was pretty excited when this place opened. I'd been the their State St. location, but felt the place was too small for me to visit often, since I almost always sit at a coffee shop instead of ordering to-go. I was glad to see they were getting a bigger space. And the space is nice. They've decorated it well. There's lots of natural light and plants that help "warm up" the often-cold modern furniture of coffee shops like this. They have an awesome menu for coffee drinks, cocktails, and food. I've tried a few of their breakfast items from the kitchen, their pastries, and their coffee. Their filtered coffee is nothing to write home about in my opinion, and is more expensive than other coffee shops around ($3 for 12oz, refillable if you get it "for here") but their creative espresso drinks are tasty. Their breakfast sandwich is pretty great and fairly reasonably-priced in my opinion. Their pastries are delicious--perhaps the best in Madison--but are also overpriced. Coming from Europe where a good pastry is around €1, paying $4 for a pain au chocolat was a bit of a shock--but it was delicious. There are, however, some downsides, and ones that make me think twice before going there again. The first is the dog. This one confuses me. They have a dog that is there all the time (sometimes there's two!) and its a beautiful, lovely dog. It's not too interested in being petted and doesn't cause much of a nuisance. However, I'm no Food Safety expert, but I'm fairly sure that places that serve food can't allow pets, only service animals. It's not clear if this dog is a service animal for one of the employees--if so, that's fine, but it doesn't seem trained as such and it would be good to have a notice somewhere that informs customers of that--and if not... can I bring my dog? Like what's the limit here? It's very unclear and I find it unusual. This leads me to my second point. The last time I ate there, there was a hair baked into my pastry. Usually, I can forgive this and not think too much about it, but many others i know who have eaten here have had the same experience. It's usually assumed to be dog hair. They did install a barrier by the pastry display which I assume helps, but still, not great in my opinion. Third, they're sometimes SUPER busy. And this is great for them, but again, sometimes I come here and have to leave, and now I just avoid it here unless it's early in the morning when i know it won't be as busy. I know this partly can't be help, but they're layout isn't super conducive to handling large numbers of people, both in their seating arrangement and their queueing system for ordering. Add in the dog and the the servers walking from the kitchen to the tables with plates of food, and it can be pretty overwhelming. Also when it's busy the wifi doesn't work very well and I've had to rely on my hotspot more than once. Fourth, many of the baristas act like they are disappointed to see that you want to order something. Personally, I'd take an over-friendly barista to a disengaged or annoyed one. This was my first time at Grace, and I Ordered a Vanilla Lavendar Matcha Latte - iced. I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately it was not mixed together at all. i took one sip and just got matcha chunks with no flavor. I know its easy to quick mix matcha and milk but for the price it felt thrown together and under whelming. Once I mixed it up and it was less chunky with a more even distribution of the vanilla and lavendar it was good. I am hoping that when I go back to try a hot espresso or coffee latte it will be as good as I hear it is. But on my first impression I am not blown away. read more

I really want to love this coffee shop. It looks great, the menu seems to have great items, but I have just had so many mediocre and now, bad experiences. The dogs are so cute, but the first time I went into the shop I had a dog hair on the edge of my coffee cup. I can excuse one mistake. Yesterday I ordered some food for delivery. I received two less pastries than ordered, which I didnt pay for so I assumed they did not have them, fine. I ordered a charcuterie board which I saved for today and brought out and assembled on my own plates. We got halfway through eating it when I picked up a piece of cheese that had a bite out of it. This is absolutely unacceptable and truly disturbing in the middle of a pandemic, or on any given date. Wow. I had...very low expectations prior to visiting Grace. Mostly because a lot of coffee shops that have breakfast have a very narrow view, that's mostly gluten based. (Ie, muffins and bagel sandwiches). Consider ALL my preconceptions shattered: I LOVED this place. First of all, they have steak tacos. In corn tortillas. For breakfast. With fresh guacamole and pico that are so dang good you will want to get two orders. But you'll be too full after one order because they are generous. And beautiful. And delicious. I didn't eat any French toast, which my mom ordered, but it was beautiful to see. The açaí bowls also looked delicious and I might get that next time. Coffee to stay comes in large cups-they put the cream in for you, and you have to ask, but they have allll the kinds (including oat milk). Free refills. Family style seating, which a lot of Madisonians seem baffled by (I get that we're midwesterners that don't like to get close, but don't sit on the diagonal and leave awkward solo seats amidst your group-sit together!). Beautiful windows letting in alll the sun. Ambient music that isn't deafening. Big floofer dogs that seem super chill with all of humanity. This spot is a gem. Go here. read more

The design of the place is super fun; clean, sleek, modern, boho, etc. Staff was friendly. Coffee was good. Food was gross. My husband had a sandwich, he said the bread was dry and it was overall bland. I had some sort of summer salad - mixed greens, berries, nuts, etc. and rosemary vinaigrette. Sounded pretty good. You know those stores that sell fancy olive oils with herbs in them? I'm pretty sure that was what my "vinaigrette" was. Olive oil with a few sprigs of rosemary. I went through the drive-thru at your Sun Prairie location and had to wait 20 minutes without moving due to someone ordering an entree ahead of me. This is not what I expect for a drive thru. You need to either take large meal options off the drive-thru menu or come up with a more efficient process (have them park in the parking lot and bring the food out to them) so that other customers who are expecting a quick drive-thru are not held up by one customer. I can understand normal drive-thru business when combined with in-house service as well, but to not move for 20 minutes for food in a drive-thru is unacceptable. Also, please fix your sizes and do not put the prices as the only descriptor for the size. I ordered a medium assuming the cheapest option was a small and received the smallest option. Please put the sizes on the menu along with the prices so a customer has an idea of what they are actually ordering. This also could have been avoided had the drive-thru screen been working and if I could have gotten my order total at the time I ordered (which did not happen). read more

It was my first time going and I was impressed by the interior of the place. It was also crowded with nowhere to sit so we sat near the bathroom. Not impressed by the workers. There was a guy that said hi to us at the beginning and even told us what each of the baked good was but he sounded so unhappy and tired. I get that it's probably been a long day even though it was only 2PM but no need to be that way. He waited for us to order but ended up leaving which left just the girl up there. She didn't say hi, didn't make eye contact, didn't smile, and didn't thank us for our drink. If you want business, you cannot be like that. This new coffee shop is adorable. My favorite part about this coffee shop is the atmosphere. It's the perfect place to study, relax or meet up with a friend for a bite. It's so welcoming and cozy inside. From the wall art to the hanging plants- the aesthetics are on point. My friends & I went on a Monday afternoon and got brunch. Not many places provide brunch during the weekday so we were excited about that. We were also excited to see that they had alcohol on the menu as well! I ordered avocado toast which was served on top of sourdough bread with a balsamic glaze drizzled on top. It was made to perfection. I also had a raspberry mimosa and a cold brew White Russian. Where to even start. The customer service was absolutely horrible. No smiles and not even an greeting when we entered. Took forever to find seating. When we went to order they looked annoyed. They didn't give us a number for our food, but when they when they gave us our food they accused us of never taking our number. We were never given a number or told to take number. It also took them 20minutes to warm up a cinnamon roll that was already made. They messed up our egg sandwich and egg wrap order and were rude about it when we mentioned it to them. We were going to eat the food anyways but they took it away from us, very rudely at that. Overall, not a good experience and we not ever return. I will also warn people to never come here. Cons: It was a little unsettling how the pastries were basically sitting all out in the open with people inside not wearing masks. Grace coffee is truly a five start restaurant. While the food may be quite pricy the taste and service quality exquisitely make up for it. My first trip there there was this barista I believe her name was helenor she was excellent she met all our needs getting us everything we asked for except the syrup amounts they gave us were that of poverty for they had been short on syrup that afternoon. They had these things I believe they were called cheesies they were exquisite. The ambience was quite interesting though, as their tables could use some better carpentry. They were not fit to hold my incredible arms. What makes this a true five star review is the architecture it gives Grace coffee very old style and a home feel paired with the rustic aura I feel as though I have been transported to simpler times I felt the safety and comfort of my own home. Another barista named Eva Whitney, was constantly working on perfecting her craft of coffee making while also attending to needs of customers walking though the door for she was the only one I saw working at the front bar. All in all the restaurant currently known as Grace Coffee Waunakee has met its goal to create a perfect dinning experience for those seeking safety in fact that their food will always come out perfect and the workers there are always happy to see new or returning customers. My husband and I stopped here for coffee and breakfast during our short stay in Madison and are so happy that we did! What a gem! Great pet friendly outdoor seating, something that isn't always easy to find. I had an açaí bowl and my husband had the same but with peanut butter. The fruit was very fresh and the granola was on point. We also indulged in a brownie batter croissant- wow! Prices were a little steep but all in all, highly recommend!
