There's one main room with two beds which are separated by curtains -- curtains are also used to isolate the massage area. Regardless, you still have your privacy, just know what to expect. Jenny was my girl! She had pretty strong hands and mostly worked, yes that's right, my neck ... my back. Plus a little bit of arms, legs and feet. She applied steaming hot towels at the end -- which is great for those who don't like leaving a massage all "oiled" up. I went with a friend of mine after purchasing a Groupon deal. Oh yeah, if you purchased a Groupon, keep in mind that they charged an extra $3 for tax. They didn't seem to have many guest when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Located on the second floor of an old building, I wasn't too impress with the decors of this spa. In my opinion, a spa is suppose to give off a sense of cleanliness and not make you feel somewhat icky with it's 50+ year old painted walls and old carpets. In my opinion, they need a good renovating. There was a pipe with a fabric ribbon tide to it next to me as well as a piece of flat medal sticking out of the carpeting while I had my massage. As all massaged beds are sectioned off with just curtains, you can hear everything around you. For example, my friend and I situated next to each other but we were unable to chat with each other because another guest complained about us talking to each other. The massage wasn't bad at all and the masseuse was great and checking with me once every few minutes if the pressure was ok. My friend and I came here for deep-tissue massages during spa week last weekend. The massages themselves were a fantastic 5 stars! The kinks in my neck and shoulders were made to disappear! The pressure was perfect, and I like how they wipe off the massage lotions with hot towels afterwards. My 4-star rating takes into account the no frills decor and atmosphere. The massage tables have a disposable paper sheet over them rather than proper linens, and each massage "room" is separated only by curtains from the next room. I left the Earth for 3 hours, and came back feeling like someone had just taken me out of my shrink wrap. I came here for my birthday gift to me, a day for some real R & R. I went for Graceful Day package 1, and let me tell you, it was worth every penny. I never felt like she was rushing through any of the services. She (Rini, I think ??) was nice, professional, and caring with each one. The scrub was delicious and had my skin feeling baby soft for days. The wrap and the massage were also great, simply head to toe bliss. I've never had a facial before so I have nothing to compare it to. The only thing I wished it had included was some exfoliation, but she did do the hot steam, extraction, massage, and cold mask. If you're looking to get someone a gift, or give it to yourself, this place is great. If you've seen any of my previous reviews, you'll know that I'm somewhat of a massage snob. Yes, the place needs to be relatively clean but when it comes down to it, I'm not going to a massage place to enjoy the unnecessary frills of complimentary tea or scented candles- that stuff I can get at home. What I REALLY look for is someone who can use their hands to do some magic on my shoulders and back and Jackie did just that. Jackie is a male masseuse and if you're not usually comfortable having a guy massage you, I encourage you to give him a try. I like pretty strong massages and being the petite girl that I am, some masseuses are kind of wimpy giving it to me hard (get your mind of the gutter please). He was firm without being overly painful and kept at the same level of pressure throughout the hour. He didn't ask me to flip over which is fine with me because he spent most of the time massaging my back and glutes (which feels AWESOME in a very nonsexual way) and spent a portion of the time working on my limbs. It was so relaxing, I couldn't help but fall asleep a few times! Decent place. Friendly enough staff and clean facility but I'm not sure it deserves the "spa" name. I purchased a Groupon because I wanted to treat me and my man to a massage. I read some Yelp reviews and came in with an open mind. There was a small waiting area that we enjoyed since we got there a little early. First time customers have to fill out a short form (pretty standard procedure). After waiting about 15 minutes, I was going to ask the receptionist how much longer when she told us to follow her to the room. We were told to strip down but leave our underwear on - weird but not unheard of. After a few minutes our masseuses came in. We were greeted but not introduced or asked if we had any special issues. Again, weird but not unheard of. The entire massage was spent on my belly, which was unusual for me. She was firm but seems not especially skilled. For every part she did well it was followed by a sweeps of her hand. Nice neck massage then random sweeps up and down my back. Most of the massage was spent on neck and back. Been here a few times in the past few years. Usually just go for the deep tissue massage when its priced at $60 (usually $80) - their sister store Graceful Services is always priced at $60....but I just like the setting at Graceful Spa a LOT better. Place is clean, but no frills. The term "spa" is a bit misleading. The "rooms" are separated by curtains.....so there is not that much privacy. But if you are there to get a good massage, this the place to go. They know what they are doing. I brought a friend with back problems that kept her out of the office for a month and doctor prescribed Vicodin - she left the place claiming that they "fixed" her. Over all a great value and a real massage. I've been to places that were more frilly - better lotion, more expensive, and they did NOT give a great massage like Graceful Spa. Graceful Spa is the Goldilocks of massage services: not too hard, not too soft. Not too expensive and certainly not too sketchy. It's juuuuuuust riiiiiight. In fact, Jane and I had such a great experience, we're now treating ourselves to monthly sessions. Booking two appointments just two hours ahead of time, we trotted over in the rain and up the stairs to the spa. Brand new US Weeklies and Glamours awaited us and before we even got into the juicy bits, we were shown to our tables. Soft lighting and music sets you at ease and the technicians are minimal on talk; asking only how you like the pressure. Within 15 minutes, I was so conked out that when she asked if I wanted it any harder, it took me a good 30 seconds to form my one word answer. Following that, I was out for the count and woke up 45 minutes later in a cotton woolly haze with my muscles feeling like buttah. They definitely know what they're doing, and I could feel her focus on certain areas that were tight or work on loosening the tension in my back. Upon finishing, Jane and I could hardly keep our eyes open for the 10 minute cab ride home - yeah, it was THAT good. Tried this place with some friends for Spa Week. A small and tranquil place located on the second floor. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who took our $50 for our 50 minutes massage. We all opted for the deep tissue, organic cream massage. As I moved away from the waiting area and into the massage rooms, I was surprised to see that the rooms were only partitioned with heavy curtains. Apparently, it didn't bother me much or my friends since the whole back area was a 'quiet zone.' All you hear is the soothing music softly playing and the breathing of my masseuse. No complaints. Her pressure wasn't too soft nor too hard. I was quite pleased with my much needed massage. The warm towels that they used to clean off the massage cream definitely topped it off well. I completely agree that you can't go in with high expectations - you don't come here for the "spa experience" - you come here because your neck kills from sitting at your desk all week and you need someone to hit those sore points. I will admit it was a bit offputting at first to have people right next to you, only separated by a curtain (albeit a thick one) but you get over that fast once they start working their magic. Second; the spa itself is very clean and the staff is equally professional, this is much appreciated as it's usually an example of how the place is run. Unfortunately for me and my experience it, didn't meet those expectations set by the latter. My masseuse was a bit on the rough side (pressure) with my back. I didn't have a problem with her jumping up on the table with me to get in deep on my shoulders, but I did have a problem with her using her elbow, backed by all of her body weight to apply the maximum amount of pressure on my back due to the lack the strength in her hands and arms (note: I should have said something to her at the time especially since this is pointed out in the reviews). However she did magic on my face, arms, legs and feet. While one's threshold for pressure (dare I say pain) varies from person to person, I can appreciate the fact that the first question out of my massuse was just that: How much pressure and where? It was beauty week and I decided to take advantage of the special discounts Spa's around the city were giving. I had a friend booked the reservation over the phone. It was two of us in one room. We didn't have the curtain seperating us because... we are friends. So after stripping to our underwares, we lay on this table and I was totally comfortable. They placed a thin sheet over me and a long towel to cover me up so nothing is exposed while they massage my back, arms, legs, etc. It was great. The ambiance music was nice and soft. Although I had expected scented candles but I guess that would be asking for too much. I had the special of 45 minute massage for $50. I left feeling like jello. No wonder they say it's addictive. If you want a really good massage and don't care about ambiance as much, this is the place to go. I've had more expensive massages before and just feel like they've been rub downs. They really work the knots out here and it's actually closer to a deep tissue than a swedish massage. They're pretty tough here and I have had to ask for them to lighten the pressure a little. When you walk in, you'll think it's kinda sketch cuz the lobby is really tiny and looks like it's some small scale operation. When you get walked to your "area", it's just a flat table with a basic sheet with a paper towel with a hole for your face. Only curtains separate you from the next guy next door. It felt much longer than the 50 minute spa week allotment, and even though it was a discount treatment she was still very attentive and hit all the problem spots. I joined Yelp today specifically because I felt very mislead by the previous reviews. I've been to many spas, frills and no frills. I had no problem with the decor or the lack of amenties - I expected this given the reviews and price. However, there were many issues - starting with the hallway and stairwell to get into the place, which smelled really bad and was very uninviting. It was clear that my attendant was not trained, and didn't know how to give a massage. She was the same girl who gave me a "facial" - I've had facials at several different spas and this was NOT a facial. She washed by face, 4 times, and put a mask on. That's it. Definitely not worth paying for, in my opinion. Additionally, she left the room several times during both services. This alone wouldn't be enough to make me upset, but I brought an out of town friend with me who had similar feedback. Her girl was untrained but instead of being too reserved like mine was, she was overly aggressive and harsh. Same issue with the facial (so this must be a standard practice) and SAME issue with the girl leaving several times during the services. I definitely wouldn't have brought an out of town friend here and I wouldn't recommend this place unless you have a reco for the exact person to do the service (4 Square had a tip to go to "Jacky" - maybe she's better). If you had a good attendant, then this place IS a bargain, but if you want a facial definitely go somewhere else. read more

I think this spa suffers from attitude adjustment. If you look at citisearch, the first bunch of reviews are SUPER positive, and then a bunch of pretty negative ones. I believe this is due to too high expectations. However, if you know that the wait area is small, there is no lounge, and you are, as Kimberli said, only separated by curtains, it should not curtail your enjoyment. Over the summer there was a 2 hour massage/facial deal, which I booked the day I wanted it over the phone. I was greeted warmly, treated respectfully by all staff, but most of all totally relaxed when I left. I visited this spa today for my birthday and I really enjoyed the ambiance. I came here for a couples massage in which the receptionist was able to help us obtain a room together as oppose to separately so i was happy about that. My masseuse's name was Jo Lin i believe and she did a great job a bit rough at times however, when I felt uncomfortable I told her and she immediately apologized and soften up a bit. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our spas and we would come back to this location. Very clean, somewhat friendly and conveniently located for us. I took my mom, aunt, and sister here for Mother's Day without checking it out first. Big mistake!! This is NOT a spa. It's an apartment with curtains separating the "rooms" with paper covering the massage chairs, a target bin for your belongings, and a creepy feel. It doesn't look like the pictures. I chose this place because of the good reviews and cheap price, $150 for 3 hrs of service. Since I was paying for four people my normal spa, Great Jones Spa, would've been pricey. I guess I got what I paid for. BTW, you pay before you have the services, never experienced that before, and I didn't receive a confirmation email or phone call, which I feel is totally unprofessional. I had a body scrub which felt like something I could've done myself with some store brand scrub. If I wasn't covered in sticky stuff I wouldn't of stepped foot in the horrible shower. It has holes in the ceiling, I'm guessing to vent the shower, it was disgusting. I also had a graceful massage which could've used more lubricant. At times it felt like she was rubbing sandpaper on my skin. The towels they use are air dried therefore they are hard and turning over is annoying because of the paper making noise and shifting beneath you. I'm rating this place two stars because the massage was decent and because my aunt and mom, who never been to a spa before, enjoyed themselves. I will never return here. Now I have to take them elsewhere to show them what a real spa is like. This was not a graceful experience. I can't understand why people rate this place so high, it's awful. The enterance to the place is....well...ghetto maybe even shady... but the inside looks totally legit I promise! This is a decent spa with great deals. It's not the fanciest place in town but it's clean and reasonable. I wanted to treat myself to a birthday massage and facial without spending a ton and I got both for $120. I got a same-day appointment and I was nervous about why it's so much less than other places in town but was satisfied with what I got. If you have money to burn and want red carpet treatment, this might not be the best place. They cover you with a towel as opposed to silk sheets, the room are made with cloth instead of hard walls and I don't know if they have the most high end products in the world but they also don't try to sell things to you which is nice. This is a good place for a solid, no-frills massage if you live in the neighborhood. They're running a $60 for 60 (actually more like 50) minute special if you ask for it. The setup is a lot like many cheap chinese tui na places sprinkled around the city (curtains separating the massage tables rather than individual rooms) but if you've ever gone to those places, you know they don't employ Licensed Massage Therapists or anyone that seems "trained". My lady at this place gave a decent massage, approaching in quality to ones I have gotten at very fancy spas that costed hundreds of dollars. I doubt she was an LMT, but she must have picked up tips from someone somewhere, since she knew what she was doing. +1 for the rubdown with warm washcloths after the massage to take the excess oil off your skin, so you don't have to put your clothes on over an oily body. Surprising how many otherwise-good places ignore this detail. -1 for the trick they pull with the timers--they set them up so they ring after 50 minutes rather than 60. Ok, so it's a bit of a grungy stairwell on the walk up, but the receptionist was very nice. The rooms are basically communal and partitioned by sheets, so private, but you can hear folks in the room (granted everyone is quiet). The massage is a great value for the money, 2 hour massage for 120, can't beat it. I imagine the quality of the massage varies by masseuse. Mine wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. At first she was super aggressive almost painful, which is typical of the style of China (I've had them in Beijing), but when I asked her to ease up, she was accommodating. I went here during Spa Week when they had $50 deals. I decided to get the collagen facial and the hot stone massage (I opted out of the deep tissue for fear I would be in pain). From reading reviews beforehand, I knew not to expect separate rooms but a large room divided by curtains. I would say that you pay for what you get. I usually go to Haven Spa in Soho which is really nice and a bit (just a bit) more expensive. Nevertheless, this spa wasn't horrible (I think I have just been spoiled and wasn't used to this environment). The masseuse was friendly enough, she didn't really say much. The massage was good and the facial was okay (I could of used more extractions). I would go back to this spa again but only if they had a great deal, not to pay regular prices. Pros: -Reasonably priced -Wasn't taxed (for the two $50 deals, I paid $100 flat) -There was no pressure to tip a certain amount (you were able to give the tip directly to the masseuse after your services in how much ever amount you felt was necessary) -The music can put you to bed Cons: -No separate rooms (you can here the person next to you, if they sneeze, their phone rings, or if they talk). I've been here a few times and have enjoyed the massages I've received. Each time, I called a few hours ahead and was able to get an appointment when I wanted to. The prices are reasonable and the women who provide them are very skilled. They generally ask if you'd like medium or hard pressure. The last time I went, I asked for something in the middle and the pressure was just right. I don't need a lot of frills in my massage experience, so this is perfect for me. The only drawback I can mention is that it is located directly above a bar that can be very loud during its business hours, so it might be best to schedule a massage when the bar isn't open if that sort of thing bothers you.
