We enjoyed our first 2 visits to Banyan Tree Thai Spa, which makes our 2/19 visit even more disappointing. Fifteen minutes into our 90-minute couples deep tissue massage, I saw my husband's therapist, Lydia, typing on a lit smartphone while leaning over him. When she realized I saw her, she hid the phone under the sheets. There is no version of this that is acceptable. Texting during a paid massage is blatant misconduct. It didn't stop there. My husband repeatedly asked her to focus on his neck and shoulders and avoid his feet. His requests were ignored. The technique was lazy and mechanical - repetitive forearm circling with little to no pressure, despite requesting deep tissue. He left feeling like he didn't receive a massage at all. When we raised the issue, the owner acknowledged the behavior was "unacceptable" yet offered only a 25% discount - as if actively texting during a massage, ignoring repeated client requests, and delivering a substandard service were minor inconveniences. This wasn't just a bad massage. It was a complete lack of professionalism and accountability. We will not be returning. read more

But the way, save a little money and pay cash. My neck and shoulder that brought me in are feeling so much better! My lower back that's always angry has calmed down too. The combo of stretching and massage is perfection. I'd like to try a traditional Thai massage next time, but this was a great entry point. I kind of never want to have a different style massage ever again. Using your body weight and elbows/knees/feet instead of just hands is genius. The place is a tiny bit hard to find, so look for the big American flag and go in the door under it. It's an upscale building and spa. I booked a 60 minute Swedish massage at Banyan Tree very last minute on a weeknight and they kindly took me at 8:30, right before closing. They did not make me feel rushed at all. The place is very clean and comfortable, the staff is kind and attentive. When you get there they give you a warm eucalyptus scented towel to wipe off your hands, offer you a tea and the restroom, and then lead you to your room. The massage therapist was thorough and professional. At the end, they gave me a firm head massage that felt amazing - I just recommend bringing a comb if you need to be somewhere afterwards! But I decided to try their massage to ease my pain on my upper back and shoulder. They started with light stretch then use knees and elbows for deep tissue to target the pressure points. Also I think they use some sort of herbal oil smell very minty to help massage to increase the blood circulation. I feels very released after the massage. The place is very small only 3 rooms; one big room can accommodate two beds for couple massage, one room doesn't have a bed is for thai massage that's usually performed on the floor level, the other just regular room with single bed.
