Our company had so much hope for this restaurant. We had a company event a d had Gracie deliver breakfast and lunch for 2.5 days. The food was just ok. They forgot to deliver lunch one day. When we called, they blamed us for not seeing that we hadn't been invoiced even though we had it in writing. The next day they apologized in passing. We stumbled upon this great place quite by accident--was looking to have good food delivered to a family who was just moving in to their new home in Waltham. Paul was so helpful in menu planning, ALL the food arrived on time, they were extremely accommodating about special requests (i.e. needed vegetarian items without onions or mushrooms) and the food was DELICIOUS!!!!! Everyone raved about it. It was so good that I plan to return there with a friend to have lunch in person and meet these lovely owners (Paul and Grace) in person and enjoy more of their food!! Who knew this place even existed! Certainly not me. And--I'm guessing--neither do you. So, I'll tell you: Gracie's Kitchen is a catering business / takeout spot for lunch or dinner. Their menu is mind-bogglingly enormous and the open kitchen is exceptionally clean. Shuttling from refrigerator to counter to stove is Gracie herself, eager to whip up fresh pretty much whatever your heart desires. Such as a bunch of stir-fried veggies with garlic and olive oil piled into a wrap with some feta. (A bit greasy--but amazingly tasty!) This place is on a side street off of Lexington Street--right before Demo's (or after, depending on what direction you're coming from). It's kind of an industrial warehouse area. There's an Agway back there, among other things. Actually, I was at Agway buying cat food when I saw a card at the cash register advertising this place that was practically across the street. Being that it was lunchtime--and I was starved--I decided to give it a try. Only recently did Gracie's Kitchen get a sign--which has definitely resulted in a spike in business. Even still with the sign at the front door, I felt like I was in the wrong place when I first came in. Remember, it's the land of industrial warehouses--and when I think of catering places / lunch spots, I'm thinking along the lines of Baker's Best or Via Lago. Very, very, different. But fabulous. And as I've said a million times before, I like knowing that my food was made with love by somebody who's not just punching the ol' timecard. Check out Gracie's Kitchen! I love this place. I work right down the hall so it's kind of dangerous. It's a catering company that has opened up their business to include lunch, dinner, and some desserts. There is no place to sit and eat, but like I said I work right down the hall so I don't miss it. For people who aren't within walking distance - every hot dish they prepare is heated up to be nuclear so that no matter where you're going it will be piping hot when you get there. My go to dishes are: The Cuban: ham, turkey, swiss, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, cajun sauce on a focaccia roll. 5 stars. It's gotten to the point where I walk in and don't even have to say what I want. They know when I want a Cuban. Chicken sandwich with garlic, mozzarella, broccoli, and spinach on french bread - 5 stars. Loaded Steak Sub: steak, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese. This is not your standard run of the mill steak sub. When I say steak, I mean large chunks of juicy delicious steak that are heated in the pan with peppers, mushrooms, and onions, then layered over American cheese that melts and combines with steak juices to make a sauce makes you wish you had a straw. This is the best steak sub I have ever had. Ever. 5 stars Chicken Soup: This is a miracle worker and is guaranteed to cure whatever you have. 5 stars Chilli - It's not always available but it's spicy, hearty, and will stick to your ribs for the rest of the day. 5 stars Lemon Bars: Grace is a dessert goddess. Lemony tartness covered in shaved coconut on top of a delicious shortbread crust with just enough snap. yum. 5 stars Double Whammy: I believe this is a Paul creation - brownie baked inside of a chocolate chip cookie in the shape of a cupcake. Genius. 5 stars Chocolate Chip Cookies: If you see them, get one. You don't see them often because when they're put out they're the first to go. Crispy and chewy all at the same time - it makes me wish that they sold milk. 5 stars They've recently made drinks and chips available so it's really a one stop shop for lunch. Clearly I have a thing for their sandwiches, soups, and desserts, but really anything you get from Grace and Paul will be made with love and will taste amazing. This place is a diamond in the rough. Not your typical sub shop. The shop is actually just a kitchen. You sit at a small table in the superbly clean kitchen while they make your food right there. Amazing customer service. The first time I went there the lady offered me a free meatball from the batch she just finished, spoke to me for 5 minutes about the different types of breads, told me if I didn't see what I wanted on the menu to just ask because all the ingredients are 100 percent fresh. She said sometimes they run out of things because they want to make sure everything that goes out is as fresh as possible. They are in such a remote location and right next to my place and I never even heard of them so I asked and she said they do not advertise. Word of mouth only. Wow. Awesome again. They let their food do MO the talking. One minus is that the hours are odd. Weekdays 7 to 6pm. :( too bad because they are the best place around and I want them every night. They also sell family sized dinners as well as single size. And everything is at a good price. You must try this place. Ps. When you walk in, it is to your immediate left. The kitchen there, no you're in the right place!! It's called Gracie's KITCHEN-get it?! I feel like I was starting to get dependent on their Chicken Cuban. I have to say, they are pricey, no doubt. However, the food is good. I mean, how hard is it to make a sandwich right?! Wrong...the Cuban was so good-Boar's Head meats. Nice and juicy, thick, excellent sauce. Just goodness ensured. How'd I find this place?! Bored at work and I was Yelping. Made that order, and I think an angel touched me on my first bit. The next bite she said, "watch your tongue". (sigh) Then, I told a coworker about it, he got a chicken parm and the next time an Italian. He said the same thing, they were very good. And with the recommendation of the owner, we should try the meatball or meatloaf. Every time I would get ready to let it roll of my tongue, the cuban came out instead. I LOVE this place. I passed it on a walk in the winter but only went in for the first time yesterday with a friend. We raved about the service on our walk from Gracie's and then sat at my kitchen table going on and on about the food. I then sent my husband today to pick up lunch...I am addicted! The food is very fresh and made-to-order. It's definitely "just like home" -- that is if home creates excellent food! I have a fear that I may never cook again with such wonderful food being a two minute drive or a fifteen minute walk from our house. Food aside, I love the feel of the place. I love the industrial kitchen you walk into, I love the dessert samples on the counter, and most of all, I love Paul and Gracie! What a lovely couple! They are so warming and inviting with Gracie offering samples from the back and Paul up front answering all your questions (or calling from the back as he assembles your sandwich...) Regulars come in and are called by name and offer their own opinions of favorites, which is helpful because the diverse menu can be quite overwhelming -- I want to try this, and this, and that... We've ordered food from Gracie's for a few parties at our home. The sandwich platters have been excellent - guests ask us where we got them. What we love is the variety available in the menu and the cost is right on par with other local catering options. We have also ordered some Italian buffet items for dinner parties and those have also been excellent. The lasagna feeds so many more than specified! We have been happy with the customer service as well. They are quick to respond and provide email invoices that are easy to understand and ensure correct expectations. I will give Gracie her due, she runs a fine kitchen in the middle of a Waltham industrial park. I was a little intimidated the first time I pulled up to their location, half expecting to be Punk'd. Luckily, that didn't happen but I do sometimes forget about this place because it's in such a weird area. On to the food. I have sampled their prime rib roast beef, chicken cordon bleu, and eggplant roasted red pepper sandwiches. All phenomenal, some heavier than others, but I guess I could have customized the sandwich to lighten the load if I really wanted to. Their breaded eggplant is quite possibly the best thing on the menu. Their arancini are tasty but less impressive, especially when compared to a place like Brelundi. Conceptually, I am fascinated by the business model that they operate. High quality, 98% kitchen 2% retail 0% advertising gimmick. It may be wishful thinking, but I wonder if quality in other sub shops with higher volume would go up if they adopted a similar model. read more

However, I feel the need to share some advice when working with Gracie's Kitchen. A word to the wise, be VERY careful when ordering from here. I recently had an event and ordered a few things, and one of my larger meals was prepared incorrectly. When I called to speak with them, the owner was less than apologetic and was extremely stuck within his poor customer service skills. So I would advise you to check and double check. Perhaps even make a phone call or a personal visit to place your order. Well at that point, just go somewhere else for your catering needs. Yes, the first review is right on! I have worked in Waltham for the past 15 years and I only discovered this place less than a year ago when a coworker was passing out their menus. The menu was impressive, with a great selection. Waltham is a culinary city with lots of restaurants, and therefore very competitive, but surprisingly there really isn't a lot of options for someone like myself who A) demands high quality, healthy and non-irradiated/microwaved/mass produced ingredients, and B) doesn't want to spend 8 or 9 bucks on a workday lunch and C) has a big appetite. Gracie's meets all 3 requirements in spades: the chicken and broccoli wrap (with lots of garlic!) stir fried with good olive oil and wrapped in a big whole wheat wrap is practically medicinal, not to mention really big. On a day when I am feeling a little tapped and down, I will give Gracies a call for one of these bad boys and my whole day turns around. Usually, I can only consume about 2 thirds of one of these at a sitting (they are packed!) and I finish it off cold later in the day. And did I mention these have a menu price of about $6.50? Any sub shop in town that I would even consider is either a lot more expensive or gives you a *much* smaller sandwich, or both. Most places are smaller, more expensive, and vastly inferior in quality. Also, they sell great homemade soups for 5 bucks, in a really good sized container. Any soup in town I would consider is sold in smaller amounts for more dough. The chicken soup is fantastic, with *roasted* chicken that is added to the soup to order, so nobody gets stuck with the last-of-the-soup chicken strings. It's like a dinner entree of chicken in your soup, and again--absolutely medicinal! On top of the lunch options, they sell meals for families or large parties. You cannot go wrong here. And the couple who runs the place are really nice to talk to while you wait. This is the epitome of small, family-run business, so support these guys!! We need them. Oh yeah, Gracie's homemade desserts are kick-butt, and there are always bigger-than-bite-sized free samples of these at the counter. Be sure to try the chocolate chip cookie/brownie hybrid in the shape of a muffin that Gracie invented. Oh yeah and the oatmeal raisin/white chocolate cookies. Good grief just go there!! read more
