I'm originally from Ohio, which means Graeter's has been part of my life for a long, long time. They're well-known for the chocolate chunks embedded in their sweet, creamy ice cream. We visit this location semi-regularly and especially love taking guests here for a scoop or cone after dinner and then walking around downtown Northbrook. I appreciate that in addition to their standard menu, there's a rotating cast of seasonal flavors to choose from. The staff here are friendly and welcoming. They are also extremely patient with those who take some time deciding (my husband) or want to sample a few flavors before committing. The indoor seating area can get busy but it turns over quickly. If the weather permits, it's also a short walk to take the ice cream over to Village Green to enjoy. They sell Graeter's merchandise in addition to some candy and other treats. I found it WAY cheaper to just buy their pints as opposed to actually getting their scoops. Sure, it's not exactly the same experience and whatnot but you get so much more! A double scoop is about $5 and some change. A pint is $5.99. Seriously, do yourself a favor and get a pint. Just stick it in the fridge for later and now you've got some for when the craving hits! What a fabulous job this store has done during these Covid times. Walking into the shop they sectioned off the counter creating a good distance from their employees and customers. There was also boxes marked off 1 and 2 to stand in so that only smaller groups would be inside the store at a time, the others if there was a line would stand outside. Then they also extended the credit card machine to away from the cash register and after each customer they wipe off the machine. The napkins and spoons along with receipt is placed in a paper bag that is handed to you and then you can exit the designated exit. read more

The store was spic-n-span clean, the staff was very helpful, and the super-premium ice cream they sell was tasty. While the serving size for the hot fudge sundae was exceptionally small, the ice cream all around was excellent. My current fave flavor is the mocha chip. Very refreshing, intense coffee flavor, and you will not be able to get enough of those chocolate chunks! Note also: I actually DO NOT recommend the bourbon pecan chip. It has a weird banana-cherry fusion flavor. *We've been here twice in the first couple weeks of Graeter's grand opening, and I was surprised at the number of dirty napkins left on tables and ice cream spills left on the floor. I mean, I know it's hard to keep up with the lines of customers, but someone should do a quick cleaning of the tables every once in a while, with the volume of families and little kiddies coming through. On our first visit, the paper towel dispenser in the bathroom was completely empty, and there was a not-so-clean looking roll of paper towels sitting on top of it. Went here yesterday with my daughter and her friends to celebrate her birthday with some ice cream after the school day. I always find the staff extremely friendly, patient and place is clean. We were waiting for her friends to show up, and not once did they pressure us to order. Hands down this ice cream is delicious! Plenty of flavors to choose from, cone, cup, Sundaes and coffee, Latte & Cappuccino. All in all this place has great service, ice cream can't be beat. Summer can be a little Crazy here. So I recommend if and when summer does decide to show up in Chi-Town go on the early side to make sure you get in before closing. My personal favorite is the Bourbon Pecan. Yummo! read more

I asked and the staff member said the location reminded them of a fave place of theirs in Cinci. I had the pleasure of visiting Graeter's for the first time this past long weekend and I'm so sad it's been a missing part of my life until now but also thrilled I now know of it! Super large shop for ice cream with all sorts of knick-knacks. Conveniently in front of a park for the kiddos in downtown Northbrook with outdoor benches for the warm weather. Street parking available. Several flavors with a seasonal flavor - right now orange and cream. Drool. Staff is friendly and has no problem giving various samples. My momma bear had the orange and cream and we were almost ready to buy a pint! I had the black cherry chocolate chip and it was equally as delicious! Just right in regards to richness, sugar proportion and tastes fresh. I am so happy to be able to add another shop to the list of summer places to frequent! The sweet & salty combo is perfect for mommy as she watches her two little humans deplete the rest of their sugary energy at the (gorgeous) playground across the street! You can pick up a pint (or two. or six) at this location as well, but I'd rather just get my ice cream dished up for me. I feel less guilty that way. My friend came with me once and ordered their affogato. She loved it, but it was her first time ever having one. I was a little taken aback by the price (over $5!), but I'm still not sure if the size matched the price - it's still only 1 or 2 shots of espresso over a scoop of ice cream. This place is amazing and does not disappoint. I usually get the black raspberry chocolate chip but I'm also open to trying the flavor of the months. This one is peanut brittle and was delectable! The service is usually quick and very friendly. The coffee is also pretty good too! One thing is my friend was in a rush and had her baby with her, as many busy moms she grabbed food on the go and met up with the rest of us for a ice cream play date. The manager came over as she was eating her salad and said she couldn't eat it in there because it's a kosher place. I'm not sure what the exact details were but it was a bit of a bummer as Moms on the go with little babies you eat where you can when you can and it set kid of a weird vibe on the rest of the time we were there.
