Lights! Caramel! Action!: Introduced by Ben & Jerry's (BJ's) near the end of 2022, this flavor's clever name is a reference to one of my favorite pastimes, movies. The packaging depicts filmmaker and screenwriter Ava DuVernay, although I'm a film buff, I honestly had no idea who she was. After some investigating, my ignorance (with no disrespect) of Ava and her work was due to the fact that her genre isn't intriguing for me (I'm more of an epic blockbuster guy). Anyways, BJ's official description is vanilla ice cream with salted caramel swirls, graham cracker swirls & gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough. Let me lead off by saying I enjoyed this flavor. That said, I found the salt in the "salted" caramel and graham cracker flavor to be as obscure as Ava DuVernay's works. Those short comings are made up for by the abundance of superb cookie dough gobs and sweet caramel flavor. In a nutshell, this flavor is a caramel cookie dough ice cream. It's not "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones", or "Jurassic Park", but by no means "Gigli", "Jack and Jill", or "Cats". Sticking with the movie analogies, Lights! Caramel! A colleague posted on our Teams channel that it was free cone day at Ben and Jerry's. I didn't know that was a thing. I also didn't know there was a Ben and Jerry's nearby. What a fun discover for my Tuesday. Came over here on a late lunch break for a mid-day field trip. They had music playing outside and there were a few families there, but the line moved super quickly -- they had plenty of staff covering the demand. I was in and out within 5 minutes. I also didn't know B&J had vegan/dairy-free options (not a ton, but some are better than none!) I went with the almond milk cookie dough, which was okay. There was something slightly odd about it, but I can't quite discern what it was -- I haven't had ice cream in ages though, so maybe it's me lol. The cone itself was delicious. If I come back here, I would love to try the sorbet. The berry sorbet looked divine. I can't comment on the prices because I didn't even look at them since it was free cone day haha. Now I am certainly no stranger when it comes to Ben & Jerry's ice cream, I have had my fair share of purchases from either the grocery store, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, or 7-Eleven, tehehe. When teaching coping skills to the adolescent hospital patients I work with, I often share that I used to make it a priority to have Ben & Jerry's within my college semesters, being that it is one thing that brings me joy. I admit that I procrastinated on visiting for some time now, but after finally working in the Glenview area on a weekend, I made the visit happen to Ben & Jerry's. Its location sits within 'The Glen Tower Center', commonly known as 'The Glen', a shopping mall where there are an ample of businesses and restaurants. After entering the location, I had plenty of time to browse and see what gauged my interest. The employee, Angel, took my order shortly after finishing up with the customers ahead of me. I nearly ordered a favorite of mine, the Americone Dream, but I changed my mind after thinking to myself, why not try a new flavor because it is not often I visit an actual Ben & Jerry's location. After that thought, I ended up ordering the Dirt Cake because it was one of the flavors I took a liking to that I had not had before. Its flavors are vanilla pudding ice cream with chocolate sandwich cookies & chocolate cookie swirls. Service: 5 (Great) I opted out of eating my ice cream on the spot and choosing to take it to go since it was late, and I had just gotten off of work and had a long drive back to Chicago. Moreover, this location appeared clean, and the atmosphere gave off a very calm vibe. And there are a few tables and seats available inside of the dining area if you wish to eat your ice cream onsite. Atmosphere: 5 (Great) Ooouuu, I just could not resist holding back from eating the Dirt Cake after arriving inside of my residence. By then, it was just the way I like it! Soft! People laugh because I microwave my ice cream to make it soft like the blizzards sold at a Dairy Queen. The Dirt Cake tasted similar to cookies and cream ice cream, yet with more of a cookie taste. My oh my, yes! And it totally had my mouth salivating in-between each spoonful eaten as I stood at my countertop with my coat and backpack still on, tehehe. Food: 5 (Great) Now that I finally visited and had a great experience, I would surely re-visit Ben & Jerry's again. It was empty when we stumbled upon this Ben and Jerry's and truthfully I can see why. The ice cream was $9-10 a scoop. You heard that right, A SINGLE SCOOP. Why wouldn't you just buy a pint from Jewel? There's places like Jenis that exist scooping up much more premium ice cream and unique flavors for less money then that too. Noting about the service, the interior space or the ice cream justified that kind of pricing. I'm all for paying more to get more. This was not it sadly. In the super-premium ice cream space, Ben and Jerry's is alright for me. The space is small and cozy, good for small groups in a nicely decorated restaurant. The staff is friendly and helpful and serve customers in a fairly quick manner. In terms of flavors, I find them to be alright -- at times pretty creative though always a success for some combinations. With lots of super-premium options available in the area now (some at even more competitive prices), Ben & Jerry's is a place I would go to if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip out to go out to. After dinner last night, we walked over to Ben & Jerry's because my fiancée and her daughter wanted ice cream. No one was at the counter when we entered. The clerk came out a few seconds later. Homemade paper signs were affixed to counter and freezer. The signs said only double or triple scoops were sold. The ladies only wanted a single scoop. We asked if we could get a single cone with two different types of ice cream. Nope. No mix and matching double scoops. The clerk seemed upset that she had to explain that to us. She said she made the signs because she was tired of explaining the no single scoop rule to pesky customers. You know. Like us. We left without making a purchase. Is this standard operating practice for B&J's? Two scoops of the same or bugger off. Does the owner of the franchise know this goes on? Regardless, your store lost business. I wonder how many other people have walked out because of that silly policy. We won't be back. We're telling others about our experience. We met a group of friends here on a Saturday. We arrived right when it opened. As a group of 16 we managed to fill the place and overwhelm the server, who was there alone. One of the organizers jumped behind the counter to assist. I had a chocolate dipped vanilla waffle cone. I had the peanut butter cup and another flavor. Herein lies the problem. The ice cream is so unremarkable that I can't remember the other flavor's name or even what it tasted like. The ice cream cone had more flavor than the ice cream in the cone. The under counter area was pretty unorganized and dirty. The eating area was clean and accommodated our group, but there was no room for anyone else. We constantly had to move out of the way so that other customers could pay. I cannot recommend Ben & Jerry's. read more

Every time I come here the employees are always friendly and the shop always looks clean and neat. They serve one of my favorite ice cream flavors that I always get and the price is not too bad. I got a good burger with a bunch of topping for only six dollars. Their fries are crispy and golden! Their gyros are my favorite! I've recommended this place to my friends and their kids loved the food . The person that took my order spoke both Spanish and English so it was easy to get my order! We went here on a Friday night and the ice cream was extremely stale and had been in the freezer for months. My daughter had gummy bears as a topping on her ice cream and they were rock solid and inedible. The restaurant was also visibly dirty. Spider webs on the fixtures, floor in dining area and behind the counter was covered in detritus and had not been cleaned anytime recently. They need to reevaluate their health and safety policies. Have been here twice so far and both times have been great. We were excited to find the dairy free Ben & Jerry's ice cream ready to be served. My son has a anaphylactic dairy allergy so it's not very easy finding a ice cream place with dairy free ice cream ready to serve.... Thank you for having these options!! We did notice the dairy free options sitting next to the dairy options and common scoopers used so we asked about cross contamination risk... the manager was extremely accommodating and went into the back and opened a new container for us and new scooper to avoid any CC risk. I asked if I could make a suggestion and she was very open to listening to me which was refreshing from some other places I've been to and tried to suggest something. My suggestion was to keep the dairy free options covered and use dedicated scoopers only for those options. She was very receptive which was great!! We were there on Monday Sep 11th and mentioned it was my sons birthday, shortly after we have birthday hats and hear a happy birthday song come over the speakers which my 9 year old, 6 year old and all of us thought was just fantastic, smiles ear to ear!! I wish I was able to remember the young ladies name who is the new manager at that store (that I remember) ... she was AWESOME and made our experience that much better!! I came here for the first time yesterday and it was good, but nothing special. My fiance and I wanted to go to a new ice cream place that we have never been to and we have been on quite a Glenview kick lately. I ordered the Caramel Macchiato shake and he ordered ice cream in a chocolate cup. My shake was literally like $8 and did not taste like coffee or caramel macchiato at all. I know it's a shake made from ice cream and not actual coffee, but I was really disappointed about it =( It was good anyway, but I wouldn't need to ever have it again. Mike enjoyed his ice cream and I tried the chocolate cone and it was good and rich, but again, I didn't see it as anything special. The workers here were also very personable and nice, and they were responsible when it came to social distancing and having customers wearing masks. One of the workers respectfully told a man that he and his daughters had to wear their masks, so that was nice. This location also has a chill seating area outside, but because it is right next to Yardhouse, it can get a little loud. Nothing wrong with that, though, but definitely something to consider. Overall, I would be happy with silly getting a Ben and Jerry's pint of ice cream from Jewel and calling it a day. On a shake, a 2-scoop ice cream cup, and a can of Sprite, we spend $18, which is sadly pretty normal at ice cream places, but still crazy. The can of Sprite was even more than $2. read more

Not too sure what all the fuss is about with the pricing complaints. I've been to this establishment many times and it's been the same for quite some while now. They have two serving sizes, small and large. The small is 2 scoops for around 9 bucks. The large is 3 scoops for about 11 bucks. The scoops are very generous I may add. So for quality and quantity it makes sense. Not sure how that's confusing to most. I would definitely recommend. High quality ice cream, fresh store made waffle cones, beautiful ice cream cakes and a wonderful staff that are always so helpful. I'll keep on going back. read more

Today is Free Cone Day at most Ben & Jerry's across the country! This means a few things: 1) Everyone has about an hour and 11 minutes to haul ass to your nearest B&J's for your free scoop. 2) You can do your part by donating to a charity at your local B&J's AND get some calcium a la mode while you're at it. 3) Staffs must handle the masses expertly in order to keep customer turn around flowing, and the employees at the Glen did not fail to keep the line moving. One word describes my experience. OVERPRICED ICE CREAM CAKES. I have never been in the store for ice cream but other reviews have mentioned expensive for a scoop or more. I ordered online and realized online that I needed to call in my order. It was my son's Golden birthday so he doesn't like cake but likes ice cream so I should have gone to Baskin Robbins or Dairy Queen. The reason I am giving them a 2 star rating is the ice cream itself is good. The cake was what I was surprised about. I ordered the cake with 2 layers and it was only 1/2 inch thick of each flavor and it was about 8 inches around and they changed $40! I was speechless when I saw what I was getting. Young employee was basically asleep taking orders. Couldn't hear him and clearly didn't want to be there. He didn't even know what the price of the cookies were when I asked him. He had to go to the register and see first. Poorly trained. I was astonished to see that my total for 2 small cookies (the size of my palm) and a two scoop (really small too) waffle cone was $16. I went back to the counter asking for a receipt to make sure they didn't accidentally over charge me, but the worker said that I was correctly charged and that his brother (the owner) made the prices as if he was defending him. Came here to grab a scoop after dinner and a movie in the Glen. I was surprised that wasn't that crowded on a hot summer night. After our visit though, I guess I can understand why. The restaurant wasn't very well picked up. The floors needed mopping and the tables wiping off. Then there are the prices. We thought them very high for a single scoop. My scoop in particular wasn't very large. More like a kiddie size with a double scoop price tag. The ice cream is the standard Ben & Jerry's quality. Somehow it doesn't seem to be as good as when they first started so many years ago. Perhaps they have made some changes to their recipes? I don't know.
