Cesar was the artist in when my friends & I went! We called and were able to make a same day appointment. He was awesome and quick to get my design drawn up & placed where he recommended it would look best. I got a small floral design on the inner left ankle & the placement of my tattoo was perfect thanks to Cesar. He was so fun to talk to and made all of us feel comfortable. It took about 20 minutes or so & the tattoo was so detailed and looked so amazing! He did both of my friends as well & their tattoos looked so awesome! I went in last week to meet up with the boyfriend and his son as they were getting tattooed. Before we left, I asked the owner, Abl, to take a look at a tattoo on my back that I wanted covered up. He immediately said he could do it and mentioned a lotus flower in purples and blacks ... it's exactly what I'd been thinking. I told him I would think about it. I called him the next day to make an appointment. Now about the shop; it's not pretentious and both Abl and Muffy are awesome. Great energy and "real". I immediately knew I had found "my" shop and "my" people. Both have a great sense of humor and their banter cracks me up. I had my work done today (pics tomorrow) and the design work was just what I envisioned. Prep was done and we were off and away. Abl's hand is light and quick. Before I knew it line work was done and we were into preliminary coloring. Short break then back into it. ~2 hours (actually a bit less) and a tattoo from a life left behind was replaced with a gorgeous lotus that exceeded my expectations. Abl is the first tattoo artist I've been to. Receiving my first tattoo in April, I went back in August to receive my second. First off. Hilarious as heck. Always makes me laugh while in the chair. I've been going to Graffiti Palace after Abl saved me from my stupidity and covered a name of an ex fiancé I stupidly placed on my body with a beautiful koi fish. Since then he has done every piece of ink I've fancied and he always leaves me in awe of how amazing his art comes out. Besides that, Abl is super down to earth and the whole time I am getting worked on and I want to curse his name out in pain; he keeps cracking jokes which makes me feel like I am sitting at the Laugh Factory watching a hilarious stand up comedy act. He is just too damn funny! He talks all the time while he tattoos you about how much he loves his job and how his life is tattooing and it's not a crock of bull. It shows through his work just how much tattooing makes him whole. I would never pay another tattoo artist because I rather pay someone who truly does this because they love it and not just for the money. Plus at Graffiti Palace prices are completely fair and you don't feel like you just got robbed and have nothing to show for it. Today I stupidly went to get a tattoo when I already had a migraine to begin with and of course didn't eat before the tattoo. I couldn't handle the pain at all and was laying there screaming my lungs out feelings dizzy and weak. Well the boys took care of me before I fainted (I'm sure had they not helped out it would have come to that). Abl gave me his banana he brought for a snack for himself and Glen (the owner who is seriously a very very nice man, he even timed my meter and put money in it so I wouldn't get a ticket) gave me water and a chocolate bar. After my little snack time the dizziness went away and I could actually handle the torturous pain I was feeling before (mind you I have more than a few tattoos and not a newbie at this, I just started my day on the wrong foot). Glen and Abl both made me feel like family and I am very grateful. I could not give more of a glowing review for Graffiti Palace. I came in last weekend to discuss a potential first tattoo and immediately felt so comfortable and at home. Abl was outside the shop taking a break and saw me walking towards the door, and chatted with me about what I was looking for, in great detail. He was very low-pressure and didn't make me feel like I needed to get it done that day. He gave me a reasonable quote on both the time and price, as well. After a few lackluster visits to shops both in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara that didn't seem to want my business, I decided that I absolutely NEEDED to get it done by Abl. I called ahead to let him know and we set an appointment for 8:30pm. I arrived and he was ready, and so enthusiastic. He asked me to show him again what I was looking for, and he drew it out for me and confirmed the placement. Every step of the way he wanted to ensure I was satisfied, from looking at the art in the mirror to the very end. Since this was the first time I'd ever gotten a tattoo, I have no measure of the pain one is supposed to feel. That being said, although it was uncomfortable, Abl was so kind and our conversation took my mind off of it. When I expressed a little discomfort, though, he asked me if I was okay and took it easy to compensate. When he was done he asked me to look at it and make sure I loved it, and he gave me a card for care instructions. He charged me the price he quoted me for, which was more than reasonable. He had me in and out in less than 45 minutes, but without sacrificing quality. The shop itself is cozy, but very sanitary. Their chairs are comfortable and they have a nice "bar" area up front for people to sit in, which is where my partner was while he waited for me to wrap up. They have the tv on in the shop and it feels like you're in the living room watching a show and chatting with some friends who just happen to be tattoo artists. Abl has a great sense of humor and it is clear that his art is more than just his job, it's his life passion. When I initially spoke with him he was happy to answer all my questions in as much detail as possible, and was so patient when doing so. After I got my tattoo, he consistently thanked me for my patronage and seemed genuinely appreciative that I made the trek just to see him. He's humble, fair, and immensely talented. I was turned away by 4 other well known tattoo artists in the LA and OC area. The original tatt was a black banksy piece that took up most of my forarm. I was always told, "it's too difficult to cover because of the size and how black it was." My girlfriend had been getting her work done from abl for the past 7 years and recommended I talk to him. He looked at my tatt and his eyes lit up when I told him I wanted to cover it and what I wanted to cover it with. He sent my girlfriend a sketch the following day via text and I was stoked when I saw it. He took my idea and blew it out of the water. He called me later that day and asked if he could add some other things to it, I told him to go ahead and have fun with it. When my appointment came I was ecstatic when I saw the final piece he took time on. He really went the extra mile. After 4 hours of work, my arm just couldn't take anymore ink, so he told me to come back in 2 weeks and he'd add the final touch up at no cost. However, I paid him anyway, even though he tried to turn it down. The cover is ridiculous. A few of my buddies who turned me down originally we're blown away when they saw the cover and the amount of color and detail that went into it. I wish I could give this place 10,000 stars. I just got home from getting a pretty big tat done by Abel, my first tattoo from Graffiti.....it definitely won't be my last! Abel is one of the sweetest people I've ever met and he's one hell of a tattoo artist. I came in this past Saturday to talk with him about a piece I wanted down on my shoulder/bicep area. His eyes lit up and I could just tell he was excited to get to work on it. We set up an appointment, and I came in this afternoon fully prepared to grit my teeth and suffer in silence...but Abel had me laughing throughout the whole session. I have 7 other tats, almost all of them done at different shops, but Abel and Graffiti Palace can't even compare. I've never been so comfortable in a tattoo shop as I was today. Not only was Abel so friendly, his work is incredible and he is all about making sure you are happy and comfortable. My tattoo came out even better than I had imagined an I can't wait to start showing it off. I 100% recommend this shop to anyone and everyone! My impulsiveness shows in a lot of my reviews. I get into the need to get something now, and somehow, it just takes over my system (like, getting an RV). Of course, tattoos are something you don't jump into. There's preparation, and then there's opportunity. There's also balls, and when you get the balls to do it, you gotta do it. The W and I had originally gone to Studio City Tattoo around 7pm. After waiting an 30 minutes in a cramped shop, with no hope of getting seen that night we YELPED for any nearby tattoo shops open. I had some $$ to burn, and wanted to get a couple of small tattoos - but I brought a list with me (to see what kind of price point I could get for it). A lot of places were closed or closing, but we noticed Graffiti Palace was open till Midnight. We called Graffiti Palace and asked if they had any openings. The answer. "Yes - ask for Miguel." So we head as quickly as possible to Graffiti Palace, and Miguel is available. Now - I know a lot of these reviews are for Abel. He has a pretty cool list of reviews, and a nice book. But, Abel was done for the night (it was now about 8:30 to 9pm), and Miguel had no problem with both of us needing a tattoo. We went through the tattoo I wanted to get for that night, a small (about 4 inch) moving dog and some Baybayin script. That's when miguel saw Hanuman. It was going to be a big shoulder piece. I didn't think I had the $$ for it (remember, I was wanting a small 4 inch piece), but Miguel was like - let's do it. He would even throw in the script piece for free. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? OH HELL YES I'LL DO IT! I won't talk about how much the ink cost. That would be unfair. I will say, it took 4.5 hours, and I know without a doubt I didn't pay for 4.5 hours. Not only that, but it's a beautiful piece (and hopefully in the book). The script came out nicely as well. So - some caveats. Miguel is there late on weekends (even after midnight), but you have to call. He's also the only one there, so if its a big piece, there's a wait. Also, he's pretty bad at time estimates. If he says about 10 mins, its gonna take 30-40 (so put that in your measures). Mine was supposed to take 1.5 (so, I'm thinking multiple of 3???). But he's a good guy, pretty funny, ask him about the eye patch in the apocalypse. I'm coming back for my tat list (I'm wanting one a month for the next 4/5 months), so hopefully I'll see you there. Don't let the few number of reviews fool you, they may be new on yelp but they are not new in town. I have 8 large tattoos so far, 3 from three other shops and 5 from Graffiti Palace. This is one of the only two place I trust now and they are always my first referral to friends. Also their prices are very fair. My favorite artist is Abl, he is gentile and talented, he wont let you wuss out half way through but he will make you laugh while he works so you easily forget the needle. Once he even drew out a piece for me from memory on the spot of a sketch I had shown him the week before and it looked even better than the one I had shown him originally! The place is clean and they are diligent with their sanitation. Since I first started going there they have done a lot of renovations, started offering piercings and added new artists. It's cash only but there is an ATM right nearby so its never been a problem. The owner Glenn is a very cool guy always hanging around the shop making sure his customers are happy. He is an amazing talented tattoo artist but so far I haven't been able to convince him to do one for me, he only works when he feels like it. Two of my closest friends both got their nipples pierced there and a belly button piercing and all of them turned out beautify! I have gotten one other tattoo before, while I was out of the state, so I was looking for a place locally to get work done. I had heard of Graffiti Palace before through a friend, and they had good things to say so I decided to try. I have since had two pieces done there, my first was a script piece on the inside of my left arm, by Muffy. She was great, a real pro, and I couldn't have loved the piece more. Next I got my chest done by Abl, super awesome guy, never mind that he is stupid talented and a great artist......he's just a good dude that loves what he does. He spent the whole time talking to me to try and keep my mind off the pain, an for the record he was right chest tats hurt like hell. The overall vibe of the shop is laid back and super clean......both artist are talented, knowledge, professional, and make you feel welcome........it was by far the best tattoos and experience I have had . My brother and cousin are both completely covered in tattoos and they go exclusively to Graffiti Palace. They got me a gift certificate a few months ago to go get my first tattoo. I waited a couple months and then walked in one night when I was in the area, without making an appointment. I figured I'd go in and see what the process was and then make an appointment while I was there. The first thing I noticed upon entering Graffiti Palace was that it was immaculate. I could smell the cleanliness in the air, and there wasn't a spot of dirt within eyesight, which put me immediately at ease. The walls are covered in paintings and tattoo samples from artists who work at the shop, in every kind of style you can imagine. It's a lovely place. When I walked in, I was greeted kindly by an artist named Abl. I pulled out a scrap of paper that my tattoo idea was scribbled on, and explained that I'd never been inked before and that I was a bit nervous. Abl told me he'd do the tattoo right then and there, and that's what happened! He was gentle and has a really soothing voice. I couldn't have imagined a better first-tattoo experience! He talked to me the entire time he was working, just to keep me distracted. When he finished, he explained the aftercare process (because I was totally clueless), and he sent me on my merry way. My tattoo is exactly how I wanted it, and it's beautiful. I've gotten all three of my tattoos from Abl now, and I'm so happy with all of them. I once walked in with a design idea that I didn't have drawn out, and he drew it out freehand right on my skin. It was amazing, and now that it's permanent, it's more beautiful than I could have imagined. He's so talented, and I can't stress enough how gentle and kind he is when he's tattooing. Graffiti Palace is cash only, but they have an ATM in the shop, and there's a Chase Bank on the same block, too. The shop minimum is $50, and the pricing is really reasonable. I've mentioned the price of my tattoos to friends who have been to other shops, and they've been quite impressed. Oh, and for the record: even the bathroom is immaculate. Always been beyond satisfied with his work and he's extremely easy to talk to. The only problem was the script, which was partially my fault, I didn't pay attention to that part and a word was left out.
