The front porch of the house on the hill
    Mike S.

We stayed in the Hill House for a weekend getaway for our 25th anniversary. The weather was frigid when we arrived Friday night, but we opened the front door to find that the lights and the heat were left on for us. How nice is that? We loved the house, everything was perfect except for the showers. We were forgiving of the long wait for hot water, as it was below freezing outside. But the pressure was low on both showers, and both stalls were uncomfortably small for a big guy like me. Otherwise, I can't wait to come back when the weather allows for some exploring. Oh, and no WiFi could be an issue for some, we were fine without it. We had no cell service in town, but plenty on top of the mountain.

This place is the perfect getaway for those couples looking to relax and enjoy the scenery of Lake Lure. Located just parallel to the main road, it's quiet and beautifully set in the heart of the mountains. The owners Susan and Martyn were very accommodating and serve a quaint breakfast. We stayed in the Courtyard Room in the main lodge which worked perfectly for us, with a patio balcony right outside of our room. There are also several cabins to choose from, but were unfortunately already booked for the weekend. We didn't give them a whole lot of notice, but they gladly took us in. I will definitely be back. You can't beat the price for $89/night, which includes a continental breakfast and free access to their private boat dock, which is just a short drive away. This was the perfect vacation spot for a weekend getaway. We'll be back soon!

Check in was simple and easy and Kim was very thorough, even asking if we had any preferences for breakfast.

The resort is quiet, I could not tell if many people were staying here. There is a store and gas here. I would recommend going to the grocery before you arrive. The room was nice and had plenty of room in the 2 br lock off. Staff was very nice.

There's plenty of sleeping room with 2 king sized beds, one in each unit and 2 couches, one in each unit. The king beds are so comfy and we slept good. The down stairs B unit was like a cute little apartment. There's a jacuzzi that I regret not using but you need to close both blinds on either side when taking a bath. The shower is big with a door. There's a washer and dryer in both units. There's a big enough kitchen and sitting space in both units. The only problem we incurred on day 1 and 2 was a broken air conditioner. However, maintenance was out asap and fixed it both times with a quickness. The maintenance staff seemed very nice and helpful. The second day we were there we went and enjoyed the wellness center pool and saunas which is very clean and there's putt-putt and other games outside. We were told that one of the beaches/lake sides was open but we never found it. If you are looking for other things to do on your stay, chimney rock is nearby. Asheville is almost an hour away and black mountain is about the same. You'll have a good time and have plenty of choices for food and fun if you go to either.

Just got home from a week at Dancing Waters…read more The first thing I want to say is the images on the website don't to justice to the property. This place is absolutely beautiful!!! 3 bedrooms on the main floor (one king, one queen and two twins), two full baths and a living room / common area with balcony. There is a master suite above this living room / common area with a queen bed, full bath and balcony. The lower level is the kitchen with laundry area, table for 6 and common area. Outside are several decks to choose from including a nice one on top of the boat house. There's also two kayaks, one sit on and one sit in. This property is right across from the dam and this cove is a great place for some kayaking. We (5 friends) had a great week here and Debbie was wonderful to work with and we're already planning a return visit.

I'm not even sure where to begin. We stayed at Lure ME 8/26 - 9/3/21 and paid a lot of money…read more(nearly $4000). This was not our first choice of rentals, but since our reserved property was sold, this was the recommendation (and also $1000 more expensive). Do NOT stay here if you can avoid it for the money. The pictures on the website are old and deceiving. We were not expecting luxury, but for that price, we did have some expectations. The house is dated. That could have been overlooked had it been a little cleaner and cared for. The kitchen is a disaster. The dishwasher door just drops to the floor when you open it and might be from the '80s. The fridge does not have an ice-maker (something you would expect for the price), is dented and one of the door shelves is held together BY TAPE!!! Again, not looking for luxury, but you do have some expectations at that price. The view is great. At least what you can see of it. The pictures offered are a bit outdated - the trees are in desperate need of trimming. When you book a house on the lake with a view, you don't expect to spend that much time indoors, and we didn't. Which brings me to the screened-in porch. OMG, disgusting is the first word to come to mind. The furniture is beyond repair and filthy, not to mention and huge liability. When I mentioned it to Melissa (owner of Exclusive Mountain Properties), I was told that furniture was "a family heirloom" and "nostalgic." Ummm, in what century?? Imagine your parents patio furniture. Then your grandparents and that is what you will get. Rusted and broken metal junk. A genuine safety hazard. And the cushions were in deplorable condition. We were told it was water stains from the rain. If that's the outcome of rain in Lake Lure, NC, I'd rather never visit again. In no possible way were those stains from rain. Human body fluids (pee, dirty diapers come to mind)...you get the point. We spent our first full day there talking to and waiting on maintenance (the hot tub also didn't work but that's another paragraph) only to drive 30 or so minutes to WalMart to buy cleaning supplies and chairs to even be able to enjoy the screened porch and boat house (again, another paragraph). Yes, we spent the first full day of vacation shopping for cleaning supplies and chairs and cleaning. And guess what?? We got a two day refund because the items in the boat house were not properly put away. I'm tired of typing...I think I made my point. If you want to stay at Lure ME, buyer beware, there is no way on earth this is their most sought-after and requested property. I gave you a taste of what to expect for your hard earned and well-deserved vacation. Pictures to follow in case you don't believe the descriptions.

It was so nicely put together and the attention to details were definitely appreciated. The cabin came with everything you may need, while keeping it clean and organized. I loved the little touches like having puzzles and kid books in the loft. The touches of making it 'bird themed' were just enough, and didn't make you feel like you were in a Hitchcock movie. While this was a kid free weekend for us, we definitely could see it being perfect for a family as well. Everything was well maintained. Communication with the staff was fantastic and we were really able to unplug and unwind. If you do get antsy and want to go shopping or exploring, Lake Lure is just a short drive away. We would definitely stay here again.
