UPDATE: Mmkay. Gosh.. my first review was 5 stars. My second review was 2 stars. And sadly, my third and final review for Grain Station is a 1 star. We ordered the nachos for appetizer. We got it super fast, like 5 minutes after we ordered it. It was plopped down at our table and my husband and I shrugged and he said, "Now we know". The nachos were reminiscent of nachos you would get at a stadium.. but placed in a white dish. Don't get me wrong, it was fine. But for $12-$13 worth..? We expected a little more oomph. I ordered the seafood basket. The description of it stated it would be a basket of, "Beer battered cod, shrimp and scallops. Fries and a side of coleslaw included." This was priced at $19.50. Okay sweet, I expected a bountiful and questioned why I got such a limited amount of fries AND food despite the price. My husband got fish and chips which was $2.50 cheaper (or something like that). I literally could not understand the nearly $20 price tag for this dish. I had about 15 pieces of fries with my dish. When I asked why they "scrimped" on the amount of fries.. I was told it was because it was considered a "side" of fries and the seafood was the main star. I was not okay with this dish and opted to say, "Thanks, but no thanks." YALL. Please see the pics for reference. This is a cafe in Monmouth. It's no fancy/classy establishment. It does NOT warrant these pricing. I totally understand they increased prices due to covid.. but can't they be a bit more reasonable? Our server was sweet and apologetic. She stated she would report this to the manager. My meals consisted of: Meatloaf w/ Texas toast, mashed potatoes, green beans & a small Mac & cheese! D e l i c I o u s!!! The brown gravy was flavorful and perfect in every way! I had the chicken & waffles with white gravy. That was the best meal I had there by far! The south western chicken salad was yummy, the dressing was my favorite. My grandmother loved the chicken fried chicken, she had it twice! My mom loved the chicken/gorgonzola salad & pear salad. The caramelized pears are TO DIE FOR!! My aunt loved her BBQ pizza, chicken sandwich & her birthday pie was the sweetest touch with a scoop of ice cream. The berry pie was amazing! Truly, one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Comfort food, OH MY GOSH TOTALLY! We are fortunate enough to have found this gem & my family couldn't have been more pleased with the everything! Thank you to every staff member at this restaurant. Each encounter was memorable & pleasurable. Lastly, my son was starving. Without questioning they brought us a small plate of mixed fruit with crackers. I've never experienced this. My Dad and I drove up from Corvallis today for lunch. This is the old J's Café that was I'm 10 years old dating back to the 50s or early 60s. We ate at J's couple months ago, and while OK it was nothing to write home about. Our experience today was better. The restaurant has been totally remodeled and now includes a bar with house-brewed beer on tap. Dad had the chicken tenders and fries with coke slaw. He enjoyed it and brought half home. I had the cowboy cheese steak, made with bbq brisket. Excellent. Both portions were good and service was attentive without being oppressive. Weird I know, but the ketchup was fantastic: thick, with a rich flavor. We'll go back. read more

I was excited by the possibility of this new restaurant. I felt like we needed a brewery type environment. Hubby on the other hand was skeptical. So of course I dragged him there. When we got t hete parking was tricky to find. Probably the only nrgative I'll give. The remodel of the old building was done very nicely. Definitely has the brewery feel. They've added a nice waiting area out front with seats for when they're busy, and they were busy! We were seated and quickly asked if we'd like a drink. Hubby asked what IPA's they had and was offered samples. Since they brew their own beer this was important to him. He loved both. The menu has plenty to choose from and offers a very large portion in Gluten Free. Including pizza. I ordered The meatloaf sandwich add swiss and hubby ordered the smoked Mac n Cheese with bacon. Our meals arrived and...wow. yum. The meatloaf had tons of flavor. Hubby let me try his and it was so good. Definitely did not skimp on the bacon. We'll be going back. Well. I have been back a couple of times and taken things with very low expectations. But the kitchen does not appear to have their act together. I am staying with two stars. If you keep your food super simple they probably will not mess it up. I had the fish and chips a couple of times and it was OK. Not super greasy which is the typical way fish and chips gets messed up. But there are better options in the area. Maybe not for breakfast but I am not a huge big breakfast person. Sandwich was again messed up. Different sandwich. The kitchen is pretty obtuse. Again the servers were very nice. Offered to have my food made again which I really do not like sending food back because a bad cook can also be an a-hole. And I do not like being in that spot (nor did the comp me one of my two beers which makes me think maybe I should have had them eat the cost of remaking my food and then just thrown it out). But they really do not care about the people who work in their kitchen. Like the pay must be on the low side. Which is a different problem. There use to be a dude (pre Covid ) who floated around and seemed to understand things. That dude does not exist here anymore and he is missed. Gilgamesh is better and just down the road. I thought I would give this place a shot since all the review are so nice, but I was slightly disappointed! I love the atmosphere and the friendly faces, but the food was not what I expected! Yes, the portions are very large. And decently priced. But the hashbrowns brought me back to my childhood with my mother buying frozen ore-ida hashbrowns. They tasted VERY frozen. And mushy at the same time. Definitely not cooked with effort. Also, the egg in my breakfast burrito was an egg patty. *a spongey egg patty*... Food quality has declined so much in the last year that it is no longer worth it. The omelette as used to be perfectly cooked and stuffed full but now a days they are dry and flavorless. 2 small extra pieces of bacon is about 6$ so if your going there for breakfast expect to pay an arm and a leg. We would've loved to try the food, but service was so bad we decided to leave. We got to the restaurant at around 6pm in a week night. The place was about half full, and the hostess said we needed to wait for a table. We reluctantly accepted that, but asked to sit in the bar until the table was "ready" (there were several open tables). We sat at the bar for ten minutes with not a single person who acknowledged our presence or asked if there was something we needed or wanted. It's too bad, because the reviews are real good for the food; but after such a poor service experience, we won't be back. read more

I came in at 7:30 on a Sunday. There was a group of 4 in front of me standing at the door. They told me that nobody had even acknowledged that they were standing there waiting to be seated and they had been there for 10 minutes. My group of 4 sat in the waiting area and we waited for another 15 minutes before a waitress finally came over and told us we would be waiting at least another 10 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was not even at 50% capacity. I could tell she was stressed and seemed to be doing everything on her own. There was another really skinny waitress there that was doing absolutely nothing but walking around pretending to work. Finally after another ten minutes another waitress appeared and sat the group in front of me. She was about to seat my group when the older skinny waitress came over yelling about how we can't be seated because they were at capacity. She was extremely rude and belligerent to both the other waitress and my group. We were going to just walk out and go find another restaurant when another younger waitress came out and offered to seat us. She was really good and nice. I will not be coming back just because of the rude way my group was treated in the beginning. I have never had such poor and rude service in a restaurant before. That is completely uncalled for. The younger waitresses were great. The skinny older one should be fired immediately. Having said all of this, I have been to the one in McMinnville and received excellent service. read more

However I paid 8.00 for a bowl and I ordered to-go I received a container that most places would consider to be "cup of soup" the overall value just wasn't there. I wasn't happy with how much soup I received compared to how much I paid for it. It made me think, if this is their "bowl" size how much soup do you get if you order a "cup" size. Delicious soup.
