This message is to and for the owners in addition to the public. To the public I urge you to only deal with the owners in this place. And you will have to ask for them because they are very passive. I thought the owners worked there and I thought the annoying guy who was aggressively trying to talk me out of what I wanted was the owner. This place is family-owned which I love and we absolutely need to support. And the family themselves are great. However, the family needs to be much more aggressive in intercepting all business who comes through the door. There is a guy who works there...not sure his name...but he aggressively seeks to intercept anyone coming through the door and try to talk them out of whatever kind of custom exhaust they want to do. This guy barely wants to do bolt on factory replacements. Give the customer what the customer wants. I came in for a simple set of true dual exhausts with glasspacks for my kid's car. Many this guy really gave me the third degree about how much I would hate them...even though I knew I wouldn't...and more important...my kid would love them. He does. This guy ran be off the first time. Then I kept asking around to different places and upon hearing what I wanted, everyone kept referring me back to Grain Valley Muffler. So I gave it a shot again and this time spoke to the family who owned it. They were willing to do the work...but shockingly still kind of sat around very passively while this guy who works for them kept belly aching and trying to talk me out of the work. I asked them why they let him behave that way toward customers and they seem to think they need him. They seem to think he holds some special skill and can't be replaced. To the owners, be much more aggressive in identifying yourselves as the owners and determining the customers needs. Fire whoever that guy is who keeps trying to talk everyone out of what they want. I know you don't think you can replace him...but a motivated high school kid interested in hotrods will learn to bend custom exhaust pipes. Work with the local high schools and tech schools. Or hell, one of the millions of immigrants in this country can do better than they guy you got. They're not all here illegally. Get rid of that guy...and until you do...you have to aggressively head him off and never allow him to speak to customers. read more

I asked for a new exhaust system from the manifold back. I guess that means, to them, 1 foot from the manifold. Not what I asked for. Now I have 33 year old pipe from the manifold to their new pipe. Rip off read more

The tailpipe of our RV dropped off on our way back to St Louis and was causing other damage. We had an emergency we had to deal with in St Louis. Grain Valley Muffler was very understanding and squeezed is right in. They replaced our tailpipe and had us back on the road in 30 min. I'd give them 12 stars out of 10 if I could. This shop is just awesome! We had a leak in the exhaust system and we were really afraid the repair was going to be quite costly. We went in and they listened to what we thought might be the issue and quoted us a price that was much more reasonable then we had feared. Then they took our car in and about 20 minutes later came back and said the car was fixed and that the repair was much more simple and much less money than was originally thought. They were so fair and honest we just had to compliment this business! read more

My appointment was for 11:00 a.m. I arrived a bit early, checked in and chose to wait in my '93 Jeep. About 10:55 someone came to get the old rust bucket so I went back inside to await the bad news. "Jeep wants a new muffler" said the man. "$95 installed" I suspected it was the muffler, as it has gone thru 4 now and I recognized the leaky rattley sound. "Please proceed sir" says I, and he proceeded to proceed. Next, he comes out with pen and quill in hand and does the paperwork. A quick scan of my plasti-card and I was out the door, key in hand. It started right up.. so far so good. Sounds.. sounds.. Quiet! that's the word! No rattle rattle leaky squeaky noise, just a kittens' purr. (Ya.. Jeep's inline 6) I pull out of their lot and check the time.. 11:15!!? WHAT?? I look again.. WOW!! That was very fast! Mongo impressed.. I have used this company in the past and was always treated good, they have always provided great service, products at a reasonable cost... I took my Hummer in the other day for an exhaust leak, they got me right in, quoted the work before it was done. The workmanship is still quality as it has been in the past. Fast, friendly service at a reasonable price. They do good work. I had them do some work on my last car and they knocked it out of the park! Their fees were significantly less than chain shots and they showed me what they were going to do before hand and showed me the results after. They were also honest enough to tell me that since my mustang had a huge aftermarket supply of parts I was better off buying an x-ray pipe from another vendor and having them fit it if I didn't want to deal with it myself. This has been my families muffler repair shop for decades because good quality with very reasonable prices. I comfortably recommend GV muffler also to friends. GV muffler staff also provides genuine friendly support. The only negative issue is providing great value for decades means they have lots! of loyal customers, so scheduling an appointment can be much more timely than walk-in. :-) read more
