Called and got a quote because Grain Valley Muffler couldn't get me in until the following day. Called these guys and was quoted nearly triple what the other shop quoted. I told them how much higher they were than their compeitor and haggled a bit on the price. He said he'd talk to his boss and call me back. No call back, so I called and said I'll pay their price. I decided it was worth the extra money to get it done same day. I show up 5 min early and I'm the only person in the lobby. No one says a word to me or even looks at me. After a couple min, I say something to the guy in the lobby so he knows I'm the guy there for the appt (he already knew). I sit there for another 15 min while he makes phone calls and carries on with business like there isn't someone there for an appt. Needless to say, after 20 min of sitting there, I left as it was obvious they were doing me this way on purpose. If you didn't want my business say so. Having me waste an hour of my afternoon was pretty uncool. Felt like I was in JR High all over again. If you want to save yourself an experience like this and a lot of money, take your business to Grain Valley Muffler. Side note: I tried to talk myself out of leaving this review. Couldn't do it. I've been taking my truck to Midwest since 2016. They've been okay until this last time, when I was moving and needed to install new brakes and Timbrens bump stocks front and rear. I brought the parts to them. They had the truck 2 1/2 days. No call to tell me brakes were done but the suspension bolts "had a rust issue". I had to call them to find out there was a go/no go decision for me to make on the Timbrens. When I went to pick up the truck and the front Timbrens back, saying "the brakes included a pad, so these were extra!". No call to ask about that either. So $480 later and the front Timbrens aren't installed. Very poor communication from them and I asked, why didn't you just do what I asked you to do? Response: "oh I thought we were only talking about the rear". A lie, he told me moments earlier about the front Timbrens. Even if I weren't moving I would not go back. read more

I'm roadtripping with my mother in my beater car back to school in colorado from the east coast, and the beloved rust bucket started to have an issue where it was trembling down the highway! We had no idea what to do about it, or if it was serious enough to put a stop to our trip, so we decided to get it checked before going any further. We called 30 minutes before they closed, and they fit us in first thing in the morning. They took the car for a drive to try and figure out what the cause of the trembling was, inspected the car and gave us a solution (1:30 hours of work), and took it back out to see if what they had done fixed the issue, and it did! We were charged an incredibly reasonable amount for the time they spent inspecting the car and the short time frame we were stuck in. They were wonderful, and we were able to make it to Colorado on time with no mishaps afterwards. read more

Got a car you love, take it to Midwest Auto Services. My BMW 328i was a mess, the valve cover was leaking / dropping oil all over the engine bay causing a no start problem. They replaced the valve cover, threw in new plugs, cleaned the engine bay, and turned a car i was ready to scrap into a gem which i am still enjoying some two years on. I recently took my Jeep in for what I thought was a problem with either the starter or the alternator and knew that it would be expensive. After they diagnosed the issue, they found it was only a problem with the battery. They went above and beyond to contact the manufacturer, as they saw that it was still under warranty, got a replacement battery, and installed it at a very inexpensive cost. Their resolution also fixed a problem with aftermarket lights on the front of my Jeep that was already estimated to be over $500 to be rewired. I've had Midwest do quite a bit of work for me including repairing a broken timing chain and tensioners, air conditioner system, and lots of preventative maintenance. They are absolutely not the cheapest mechanics in town, but several times it has definitely been worth it. We were on way home to Denver. Our cars alternator went bad. We got off the highway at Blue Springs MO and went to Firestone. They said they didn't have a tech on duty that could do the work. They saide Midwest might be able to help us. I called Midwest and spoke to Jim the owner. After explaining our situation to him he said bring the car in and he would look at it. It was the alternator and it needed to be replaced. Jim was was super nice. He said he could fix it and have it done by late afternoon the next day. Mind you this was late in the afternoon on the 29th. So Jim took us to the hotel that is down the street about a mile or so and made sure we were able to get a room. On the 30th by 10am he was calling saying the car was ready and to give hime call when we were ready to leave the hotel. Jim came to the hotel picked us up took us back to the shop. Jim got us back on the road. Jim and his staff went above and beyond to help us out and get us on the road again. Brian's customer service and knowledge is amazing!! He's not your typically auto repair guy. I could tell he was very genuine and did not want me to get ripped off, which another store was trying to do. I actually called Midwest Auto Service by accident. I thought I was calling the store I visited earlier that day, who quoted me over $4,000 in repairs. As I explained that so he would remember me from earlier, we realized I called the wrong place. He knew what they quoted me, and Brian went out of his way to text me after I hung up to say he did not agree with the diagnosis based on the information I gave him. He offered to look at my car for free. Of course I took him up on that offer. He tried a few things, and I'm going to go back to see if his tests work. If so, he will save me thousands of dollars!! Brian was a HUGE help. I went in to have my passenger door window fixed, it had come off the track. It was a quick and easy fix with some clue and clamps, I was expecting the worse and hoping for the best and was thrilled it was a quick and easy fix. So impressed by the window I scheduled an appointment to have my A/C looked at, Brian assured me that if there were any issued we'd discuss it first. I had a leak, he replaced the valve for me and refilled the Freon and I was out the door. Now this aren't the biggest repair jobs but their honesty is what has impressed me and they have a new customer. They could have milked it for a lot more - and many places I've been have I'm sure. I will seriously never take my vehicles anywhere else. Its really hard for anyone to trust any auto shops, but I would seriously trust these guys with anything. I've been 3 or 4 places in the KC area and always feel SICK to my stomach after the service. Not these guys. The first time I came here after getting tons of other quotes all over KC they probably saved me around $1500 when they didn't have to. I (idiotically) told them what the other quotes were and they scoffed at them! All in I think they charged me $100 and the car has been perfect ever since. This time I came in with an AC problem. I'll update regarding the service this time, but you won't find a nicer and more honest group of guys in this industry. They're still doing it right. I WOULD DRIVE HERE FROM ANYWHERE IN THE METRO. CROOKS! My wife brought her car in to have the brakes examined and to ask about a 60K service. I was tied up in a meeting so I couldn't take the car over myself. They called her with an estimate of almost $1200 to do rear brakes and some filter changes. This sounded ridiculous to me, so I called around. The Volvo DEALER was $200 less for the same service. When I called to ask for a detailed list of costs from these guys, I got a dismissive attitude and some speil about 'only using the OEM parts...' Well, I suspect the dealer's service department uses the same. I did some research on the parts costs they quoted me and could obtain them, in same form, for about half of the cost. If I wanted to use a more generic form for some things (such as filters an brake pads, of which there is little appreciable difference on a non-high performance car like hers) the savings were even higher. With this information I called my usual garage in the city for an estimate. I walked through each item, and for the lot his quote was $550. So we elected not to have fleming perform the service. I called over there earlier in the day and told them to hold the car, and not do any work on it. The guy I talked to said they would. When she went to pick up the car, they claimed they had performed an oil change to a tune of $70! and charged her some kind of 'diagnostic fee' of $40 on top of it! I've seen this kind of crook before. Because she was 1. a woman and 2. in a nice import they thought they could rape her pocketbook. They should be ashamed of themselves. Avoid this place like the swine flu. read more

David, the owner, helped me diagnose the cause of a check engine light when it flickered on in the midst of a road trip. Rather than take advantage of an out-of-towner with unnecessary repairs (as the Firestone up the street tried to do), he took me under the hood, where he clearly explained the reason my light was on and the importance of the fix, helping me make the right choice (to make the repair at my destination) rather than pressuring me into making the choice that would earn him the most money. He then tuned up my car for the trip and made the little fixes that would improve my mileage. David is highly knowleadgeable, scrupulously honest, and a pleasure to deal with. This place is awesome- I wished we lived in KS so we could come here for all of our car issues. We are driving across country in our newly owned but very old 1977 Motorhome. We couldn't find anywhere to take us for an oil change because we were "too big." (We were trying to avoid camping worlds who have longer waits and require appointments) After being turned down and multiple shops, We call this shop from about twenty miles away and they say, "I don't see why not, bring her down." They got us right in with no wait, completed our oil change in the parking lot and proceeded to answer all twenty of our engine questions (this is our first time driving cross country and our first time owning an rV let alone an old one that is loud and has lots of strange noises we are unfamiliar with). The guy even gave us a mini lesson (let's call it an education) on our engine, the coolant, how to check all our levels, etc. I feel like we walked away with a little education and more confidence as we continue on the road to California. Lastly, the cherry on the icecream, another worker came out to measure our hight of our RV to make sure we could make it under bridges and low height areas safely without holding our breathe. My wife and I took our 2005 Chevy Cobalt there to have the oil changed.we picked up the car after servicing.as I drive away I noticed that the check engine light was on..I took the car back and told them the light was on.with some attitude a service tech hooked up a OBD reader and turned the light off..we left in the car and I noticed that the speedometer wasn't working.. power steering light was on the car was sluggish.when I went to get on the highway the car was redlining and wouldn't shift out of second gear...I took the car back to Midwest Auto..the took the car into the bay.. sometime later the owner Jim Clark came and spoke to us...I explained to him that the car was working perfectly and we just got an oil change..He proceeded to talk over me and showed me some paperwork he had printed out..and that told us we needed a new ignition switch.whichwould cost cost $60 plus labor...we priced the part OReilys Auto $35.62..labor for 1 hour was $108. Jim Clark was very condensing and treated us like we had no choice but to do this..we ended up renting a car and left the car there..I spoke with Jim over the phone the next day and told him not to do anything else to the car and I would meet him after I get off work..when I showed up the car was in the bay..the had put a new ignition in and gave us a total bill of $297.00 ..WOW!! And the car still wasn't fixed..Jim told us that now we needed a new TCM which would cost us $455.00.We paid the 297 and took the car away from the shop.Please remember the car was in perfect working order...They took no responsibility for the damage and treated us poorly..my wife found a video on YouTube with someone else had the same problem...I watched it and I fixed the car in about 5 minutes..Do not take your car to Midwest Auto..They could possibly damage your car or even do it on purpose and then proceed to charge you to fix something that they did..and Will not take any responsibility ..I feel that I was ripped off and treated very poorly.DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO MIDWEST AUTO..THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR CAR clearly we were ripped off.if I could give them a star rating it be a negative 5 star rating. read more

They looked over what I wanted them to, discussed options with me and took care of all my concerns. Although the owner and staff is very kind, we had an issue with what we feel is a reasonable request. We have 2 older vehicles that worked great, but then 1 had mechanical issues so we let the other sit while we drove the one that worked well. After approx. 2 months, we had the 1st vehicle towed to them. It was fixed and doing great afterwards, so we used both vehicles until the 2nd one broke down a while after the first. The 2nd vehicle sat for approx 6 weeks before having it towed. There was corrosion of some parts... battery/cables etc. and they fixed it (had to do this to even see if there were additional problems). I had made clear that if this 2nd vehicle demonstrated ANY further problems then I did not want anything else done because I did not want any more $$ going into it. They called and said they had driven it around... no problems and asked if we would like an oil change and tire rotation (less than $100), so after insurances by owner and front desk person we said to go ahead. When we arrived at the shop to pick it up, we paid, thanked them and went down the street to QT to fill up with gas. I noticed a lot of water coming from tailpipe and white billowing smoke... I was worried and called Mary from QT. She said to stop back by, so we drove straight there (less than a 1/2 mile round trip to QT & back). I showed her the pictures on my phone. I took her outside and showed her the billowing smoke... she said she checked with the owner and that it was just 'normal condensation following it sitting so long', so I asked that the owner come out and take a look. She said he was busy, but again was insistent there was nothing wrong. Less than a week and a 1/4 tank of gas later the car broke down with a blown head gasket (confirmed by the mechanic we have used for years before we moved FROM Belton to Greenwood). I did not ask for any reimbursement of any work OTHER THAN the oil change & tire rotation they did after they made sure the vehicle was sound. The owner said no because HE didn't see it when we came in... Was he really "too busy" to look at it before we left or was he just trying to save face? I don't know, but I don't trust someone who won't come to look at it then uses the excuse he didn't see it. Disappointed... not about the money (really). I'm disappointed in the integrity of his statements about not "seeing it". White billowing smoke is easy to see and all he had to do was turn around and look when we were there to see it. That omission of a simple look cost us an additional $70 to tow it (while we were on our way to a funeral in Belton which is again where our original mechanic's premises is (he is letting us keep it there until we get a salvage offer). Nice people, but I feel this was something he overlooked after they fixed the battery/cable problems and started the vehicle. So just be careful. read more
