I just had the very best Bear Claw I have ever tasted. The pastry was light and fluffy, the almonds were perfectly toasted and it was not overwhelmingly sweet. Just the perfect combination! I live two hours away and honestly I would consider driving back just for a Bear Claw. Outstanding job! I brought a box of goodies home for my family but I just couldn't share that one with them. We bought an assortment of pastries and cookies and my favorite was the cherry cheese danish. My least favorite was the cinnamon roll only because they were burnt on the bottom. The napoleons are very rich and much better as a dessert than a morning treat. Wish they opened earlier as 9am is a little late for grabbing breakfast on a week day. read more

The best thing about this place? The exterior. It entices you in, suggesting it might be well worth inspecting a hidden gem. Sadly, such is not the case. Grama herself is nice enough, but she has an extremely limited offering of goods and unfortunately they're not very good. Not all grandmothers are good cooks, I'm afraid. There are too many coffee chops in town. Just give this place a pass. read more

Right when we walked in I was a bit disappointed at the selection...or lack there of, but my kids and hubby found what they wanted pretty quickly. The new owners at Grandma's Bakery are doing magical things with the place! While my wife Ellen was getting a manicure, I headed to Grandma's at mid-morning for an in-between-meal pastry. From among many beautiful, mouth-watering choices, I selected a sizeable cheese Danish with a big dollop of raspberry filling in the center. I took it to go, noticeably heavy in the little bag, and strolled a couple of hundred feet up to the historic courthouse square and sat on a shaded bench. What followed was amazing! My first bite from the edge of the Danish was simultaneously a bit crispy and loaded with perfect cream cheese. Every bite after that was also loaded with cream cheese. And the raspberry center was perfect! This without a doubt was the best Danish I have ever tasted! Later over lunch down the street, I told Ellen I wanted to take her to Grandma's Bakery for a sweet of her choice. She chose their chocolate chip cookie--only one buck thank you--and she gave me half of it. Lucky me! The cookie was a perfect sweet bite after pizza. While strolling past Grandma's bakery for 2-3 days, we observed that the two young owners bring their toddler daughter there to help them as they continue to upgrade the place. They're an impressive family running a very impressive historic bakery in a beautiful historic building. One suggestion for the owners: Remove the beautiful old table for four, and replace it with an old, maybe beaten-up rectangular table for six or eight for use as a community table. Customers could linger, meet others, chat, and buy more pastries! Seating space is very limited, but a small community table would be a classy touch. We won't go back to Prescott without visiting Grandma's Bakery. You gotta try it, or go back to see what the new owners are up to if you haven't been lately! read more

It was our favorite bakery in Prescott until our last visit that left a sour taste in our mouths instead of sweet. It's impossible to reach the bakery since the pandemic, despite the promise on the voicemail to return calls at end of day (nobody is answering the phone currently). My husband and I took a trip to Prescott on December 2nd, hoping to walk into the bakery to find strawberry cheese danishes to go, as I had left a voicemail earlier in the week making the request. No call back, no danishes available. We did not complain as it's a tough year on small businesses, so we still ordered nearly $20 worth of baked goods because I did not want to leave empty handed. There was hair on 2 of the 4 items we purchased. Again, did not want to publicly complain as it's a tough year on small businesses. Unfortunately, it's been 2 weeks now and i have yet to hear back from the business. Very disappointing. Giving it 2 stars because the baked goods themselves are amazing, just can't seem to count on good service currently. read more

We stopped in early one morning just passing through from Sedona to Yuma and we wanted to stroll down beautiful historic Prescott. We got a mocha from down the street and started our strolling and stumbled upon this cute little place that was so picturesque we just had to get ourselves a treat. I went in while my hubby sat on the little bench outside with our puppy. Inside is the tiniest little shop with a display case loaded with goodies. My eye went straight to the gigantic cinnamon roll, more than enough for 2 people to share and at a good price. Now, I am slightly cinnamon roll obsessed so I've had quite a few in my life. It is safe to say that this was one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. It was soft and moist and flavorful with the perfect amount of cinnamon and the cream cheese frosting was crazy good. Dare I say it was almost as good as my Grandmother's famous cinnamon rolls. If all their goodies are as delicious as there cinnamon rolls then they will be around for a long long time. We plan to make more trips to Prescott in the future and we will definitely be returning to Grama's Bakery when we do. read more

Such a gem in Courthouse square. We stopped in on Friday and grabbed a few cookies while we walked the square. We had the chocolate chip cookie and the peanut butter cookie. Both fantastic! Today my daughter was craving the same cookie so we raced back from our hike and made it a few minutes after closing. Another customer was still picking out their goodies and the employee was so kind to take my order as well. This time we got the lemon frosted, perfectly tart and sweet; the peanut butter; sprinkle frosted, tastes like your favorite Christmas cookie , and of course a chocolate chip. All winners. FABULOUS custom-ordered cakes at Gramma's Bakery, Prescott. I've ordered two so far, about to order 3rd. Needless to say, both of the cakes I've ordered tasted great, much better than I ever could have made. The first cake I ordered was a precious doll cake and the second was a HUGE German Choc cake that fed 50+ guests. The third will prob be another crowd-size cake, I'm thinking carrot cake since it'll be for Thankgiving. The cakes are boxed up well and readied for travel. Ok, so you're not taken off guard, here's the real scoop on Grama's. Don't expect anything fancy. Don't expect a nice place to sit. Don't expect a cup of coffee to sip down your pastry. Don't expect a large selection of goodies or a wonderfully friendly smile every time you walk in. But, the owner is a real baker and knows what she's doing even though you might not enjoy every recipe in her repertoire. Yes, her snickerdoodles may have a tad too much salt, but it doesn't mean they aren't delicious. They are. AND, if you want THE best bear claws you've ever had, this is the place, especially if you catch them fresh out of the oven. She's cornered the market on bear claws, and serves up a mean brownie too. So when you visit for the first time, just know what to expect and not expect and you'll be just fine. read more

I live in the area but hadn't been in for the last eight years. I missed out on the best bakery in the area. Sunday @ 1pm: A very large selection of bakery items. And they now have a commercial coffee machine for espresso, latte, etc.. It used to be a pot of brewed coffee. We went to get a cookie after eating lunch down the street. We walked away with $22 of cookies (a dozen of five different kinds), two cherry Danishes, a small latte, and large mocha because we couldn't make up our minds. The cookies are a bit more crumbly than when I make them, but tasty. Next time I'll try a macaroon. The prices are amazing. $1 for a cookie when it would be over $3 at another local coffee shop. Yes, it is small (no masks required). Our server was very friendly and didn't let the long line forming hurry him - he remained attentive to our questions and indecision. read more

I visited Grandma's on my recent visit to Prescott with a local friend. I visit often and had always peeked but never shopped this place. As a former bakery owner I am a bit picky about my pastries and that is what kept me from rushing in. When I first entered, one case was full of fine pastries like Napoleons, Eclairs (the choux pastry ones!), and cream horns, while the other case was full of cookies, brownies and other such treats. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and chatted away with us, even asking us where we were each from without any negative response. I bought a box full of pastries to take home and an eclair to enjoy right then. She made sure to let us know the cost (apparently, someone the day before had thrown a fit about the prices despite the prices being on the wall) and boxed them up nicely for me, just as she did for my friend. We sat down at the table to eat what we'd purchase, myself the eclair, my friend, a cheese danish. The eclair was delicious! The choux was light and airy, the creme patisserie was smooth and rich and the chocolate poured fondant on top was just right. I tried a bite of my friends Danish and it was delicious as well! I will be going to Grandma's again, especially after I visit Roasters coffee. To be honest, I look forward to it. read more

Ive been to "Grandmas" a few times and I have to agree with the overall rating for customer service and quality of product. That being said, let's move on to the "flatlanders" comments. I'm from Phoenix ( not Mars) and I love to support the local economy which Prescott happens to be. I hold customer service standards very high and it IS the tourists that bring business so why the 1786, you-ain't-from-around-these-parts attitude? Who cares where your from, its the fact that you want to give them your money! Discrimination is NOT tolerated in my family and by the way, we are moving to Prescott and I will still wear my baubbles, perfume and high heels! read more

Amazing little hole in the wall bakery right below Hotel St. Michael. Found it by accident when checking into the hotel and we were very pleasantly surprised. This small batch bakery is doing things right. The brownies were very fudgy and moist. The cannoli cream was some of the best I've ever had. Her croissants were buttery and flakey and absolutely amazing. We will DEFINITELY be going back. read more

We are in from California for a softball tournament staying at the Spring Hill Marriott Hotel. At 7 a.m. this morning we went on a walk looking for places to eat in the old downtown district.
