A pearl in a clam shell, this is a wonderful place. First, they are constantly making the food fresh, second, the staff is extremely nice and welcoming. And Third, the prices are very good, can get your family all some for around 5-10 dollars. Every time I come to Prescott I come here. read more

Too adorable to resist from the street, my friend and I popped into Grama's to take a peek at all the luscious goodies. Pies, cookies, eclairs, cannolis, cinnamon rolls, macaroons, and sugar galore... Grama greeted us when we walked in and though she wasn't overwhelmingly warm, she was kind. The prices are definitely much more than I would normally pay for a pastry, but I felt guilty walking in and not purchasing anything so I bought a chocolate napoleon ($5.10) to share. The napoleon was delicious and we ended up chatting with a very nice gentleman enjoying his coffee at the lone table in Grama's shop, so all was not lost on that mellow Prescott afternoon. read more

Okay, stop everything! You must come here. I was passing thru looking for a little snack and barely saw this little place tucked behind some stairs. I got a plain danish and a macaroon. The danish was unreal! So fresh and almost gooey. I'm not a huge fan of macaroons but this one was devine! It was big and slightly soft in the middle. I wish I would have gotten other items as I'm sure they were just as heavenly! read more

Owner was not friendly, and the day we visited she had no ice, no milk alternatives for drinks, and barely anything in the cases as far as baked goods. It was before 10 am. Wouldn't recommend since there are so many other baked good and donut places in the area. read more

Happened to wander by and was in need of a dessert to take to dinner party. Great find! Family owned and operated with husband behind the counter. I bought the Napoleon's in 4 different flavors. My favorite of course is the chocolate. And the raspberry was sweet and delicious too! Each was fresh, light and crispy with tasty insides. They were a big hit at the dinner party. We cut each one in half so we could try more flavors. No leftovers, no crumbs! I wish I had met our Baker, she's the star of this show! Definitely going back next time in town. read more

Expensive - and the apple turnover my husband bought was about the same quality as ones from a grocery store down the street. The store front probably needs a bit of cleaning or decorating - I was in there for a few minutes - but noticed the messy kitchen. It seems to be a family owned and it shows. the young man up front was obviously disappointed that we only bought one turnover. I felt a little bad - and I like supporting local businesses. Northwest corner of West Gurley Street and Granite, next to the Hotel St. Michael. Walk down the stairs. Open like 5 hours every day. Elderly lady, who is courteous and kind. She seemed to have no employees. Whatever she makes that day is what she has. But make no mistake; she knows what she is doing. Standouts: Napoleons, éclairs, special order pies made old school, cream horns, choux pastry, coffee and hot chocolate. Basement but with sun streaming through the windows. Tastefully ramshackle. I can only attest to the coffee. I didn't have any baked goods. I saw an Espresso machine and was fooled. The staff was nice. I ordered an americano. Which is just a shot of espresso and hot water. The ratio was off and I don't think they used an espresso roast for the coffee. Regardless, don't go here for the coffee and don't let the espresso machine fool you. I love grandmas! It used to be whenever I went there, they were closed, but about a year ago, it changed and it seems whenever I walk by, someone is in there baking and they are usually open for business. Their cookies are so soft and yummy, great frosting, huge brownies, and really good prices. And I love how they are down below the sidewalk, so you have to go down a set of stairs to get in. Friendly, just off the square, and delicious. Always worth stopping in! read more

Stopped here while visiting Prescott for Acker night. Fantastic bakery that bakes only with butter, no trans fats like found in hydrogenated oils and mono and diglycerides that gives my wife restless leg syndrome. She declared the peanut butter cookie the best she had ever eaten. Also loved the oatmeal raisin. I went for the snickerdoodles--moist and so tasty. Also a cannolo and cinnamon roll. Oh so good. This cute little mom & pop bakery is located right next to the Hotel St. Michael. The selection here is not huge, mostly cookies, scones, and pastries stuffed with cream. I tried the coconut macaroon and it was perfect! Also tried the raspberry and cream filled pastry...WOW!! this was soooooo delicious...amazing. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and told me that I picked his 2 favorite things....there was also an older woman making something in the back...they both laughed at my jokes so I would say they are both good folks. I had a scone here and it wasn't very good. However, why the 5 stars? Because yes, I did fall for the cute exterior to this place, but...there was actually a grandma inside. A real, live, 80+ year old woman who still has her little bakery just off of Whiskey Row that's only open like 5 hours every day...and she seemed to have no employees. HOW CUTE IS THAT? I just read about the "flatlanders". How annoying is that? So in a town that thrives on tourists, who support your little city of Prescott, you trash talk and judge? nice. Anyways, we went in to this place and it was so cute from the outside. The woman inside was nice enough. A little short, like my Grandma would be, and even though I'm used to it with my Grandma, I just prefer not to be spoken down to by a complete stranger. Nonetheless, my kids shared a pastry and my husband and I each had our own. We had our own coffee that we had gotten earlier and that wasn't a problem at all. She only accepted cash and was nice enough about it. My husband ran down the way and got some out. But still, I don't understand a business that doesn't accept credit. Those machines are like 30 bucks. There was very limited seating, but what did I expect, it almost added to the quaintness. All in all, this place was okay, and I'm more than happy to support you "locals" when I'm in town. But if people really have such an issue with us "big city folk", I will happily drive 10 minutes to the Golden Corral and support big business. If that's what you want.. read more

My bridesmaid gifted me the Wedding Cake. How awesome! From there the experience went downhill. We had a meeting with Grandma to discuss what I would like. I was shocked to find there were no pictures available of previous Wedding Cakes or any taste samples. I was then scoffed at when I suggested Red Velvet Cake and was told how you can taste the food coloring. It took all I had to remain calm and not leave. My bridesmaid assured me how great the cake would be from what she had heard. Also do not mention the word Fondant or you will get another lecture and reprimand. As for the end product.. Horrible!!! I had asked for Lemon Zesty Zest. . . Minimal zest and Dry., I specifically asked for No beading , yep I got Beading. The Butterdream Icing was meant to be as smooth as a Baby's Bottom... Not The Ribbon at the bottom of the tiers was crooked.. Thank God I had 8 other cakes from costco for my guests to enjoy, which they in fact devoured. Her baked goods are amazing. In response to the eclair posting by Tk M. eclairs can be filled with custard, Bavarian Cream, whipped cream, pudding, etc. So that's probably why she said that. Everything I've ever had from there has been hand made, but I've never tried her fruit pies. I've had the brownies, cookies, napoleons and eclairs. Some things are $5 so I was suprised that she didn't accept credit cards. I even tried to tell her that having one would increase her revenue by 30% (we sell those at the bank). I think since she pretty much runs the shop herself, you can forgive her cantankerous attitude. You might even say it's part of the charm. You should bring at least $40-because you'll want to buy as much as you can carry when going here. read more

So......I tried this bakery many years ago, and hated it! Went this past weekend and decided to give it another try since the items in the case looked so much better than they had my first go round. SO GLAD I DID!!! Fantastic! Cherry Turnover, so flakey and just the right amount of filling and not overly sweet. Eclair very good with actual custard filling and not that whipped junk so many bakery's use these days. Cinnamon roll so soft and delicious and perfectly cinnamoned (not a word, but works), Black n White cookie tasty. Chocolate Chip Cookies TO DIE FOR! And the cream puff looked good, but my son wolfed that down before I could get a bite. He's 9, and said it was really good, but then asked to go to McDonalds for a "good hamburger for lunch", so there's that!!! My final opinion: go see Grama....although the Grama we purchased from was twenty something and male. Great customer service from both twenty something Grama males working that day. read more

My son and I walked over to Gramma's after a terrible pastry experience at Gurley Street Bakery. We had to redeem the morning. Gramma's has a wide variety of pastries ... Only a few looked worth the prices. We got two cookies and a cinnamon roll. The cookies were hard and overcooked, not a great chocolate chip recipe. Cinnamon roll looked thrown together but tasted good. Best part was the owner offered us a brownie for free that was somewhat misshapen. Delicious! read more

The only reason this bakery does not deserve 5 stars is because it is a little pricey. HOWEVER if you are willing to pay a little extra for great pastries this is the place to go. The woman was very pleasant and pretty funny at times. We bought a napoleon, two chocolate gnaches with whipped cream, a couple cookies and a chocolate eclair. ALL were absolutely heavenly. Grandma is rude and overpriced. I didn't buy anything, so I can't tell you how the food is, but the building is in awful shape and you have to ram the door open. Then grandma comes out, and she must not be terribly worried about selling her $5 cannolis, because she is a rude old woman. read more

Not only were Ms. Thomas's cookies delicious, but her generosity was equally wonderful. In the middle of her holiday rush, she donated about 150 freshly baked cookies to the girls of Mingus Mountain Academy so they could have some holiday cheer. We always pass by Grandma's after parking in the parking structure. Naturally, going back, we pick up some pastries to eat on our way home or save it to go! I love their bear claws, which is filled with not so sweet almond paste. The cannoli is flaky filled with sweet ricotta cream. My son loves their custard Napolean and eclair. The prices are a little higher but you get what you pay for. The quality is definitely there. Pair Firehouse Coffee and their pastries...you got yourself a winner! read more
